All I Want Is A Drink

This is a reupload of an old short story. I wanted to edit it again and am much happier with it now. For context, this takes place about two months before Sacred starts. Mostly fight scene practice. Enjoy.

A nice night is all Roy really wanted right now. Having just come into the town, he was both tired and agitated. " How the hell can a town like this have no jobs available? All these unfinished buildings and no construction company in sight? The hell." He said to himself, still walking through the town. He was running low on funds at that point in time. So he knew it was time to settle in a place and work for a bit. At that point however, he found it difficult finding anything to do within the small town he was in. Roy figured he might as well find a place to relax for the night. An inn would do, especially if it had a bar. After a few more blocks Roy found a little inn with a bar on the bottom floor. Wasting little time, he made his way inside and got himself a room. The building wasn't anything all too special. It was clean, but had obviously seen better days. A few holes in the walls near the bar, and a lot of broken chairs. Pretty clear that plenty of fights broke out here. That was nothing new to Roy though. He was used to the odd scrap, but that day he wasn't looking for one. All he wanted was a good drink and some relaxation. If he could have a nice quiet evening it'd make job hunting easier.

Sitting down at the bar, Roy waved down the bartender. He was a human man with dark skin and a little on the chubby side. He was also the person that checked him in. The owner most likely, if Roy had to guess. "What can I get ya big guy?" the bartender casually asked, rolling his shoulders to get more comfortable. "Whatever you got that's cheap will do. I ain't picky." Roy responded in a lackadaisical manner. The bartender simply walked to a fridge and took out a cheap looking beer. Walking back to Roy, he sets it down in front of him. Roy handed him the money and popped the cap off the beer. Taking a quick swig, he decided to more closely examine the bar. From the look it was clearly the spot suffering the most damage from fights. Plenty of busted tables, chairs, and a few holes around. Roy found himself curious enough to ask the man behind the counter directly for more information. "So what's up with this place, mate? Seems like it's seen quite a few brawls." he asked, drinking more of his beer. The bartender sighed, "Not really any fights honestly. Got a group of punks that come in here most days and wreck the place. I tell the cops but it doesn't help much.'' the owner explained, clear annoyance on his face. "Have ya tried beating the shit outta 'em?" Roy casually said, looking at his beer. He had a much more straightforward view on things "You ever fight an ogre? That's not something you just do man. Plus it's not like I can find a security agency out here in the sticks." The bartender retorted. Roy simply nodded, since he did have a point.

The two continued to talk for a while. Things seemed to be calm until the front door burst open. In walked in a group of at least five people. Three humans, a ghoul, and last but not least an ogre. Roy glanced at them, and figured this was the group that was wrecking the place. He didn't really care enough to get involved, so he continued to just drink. The group made their way over to the bar, and almost instantly broke a table. The ghoul laughs as the rest make their way to the owner. "Yo old man, you know what we want." the ogre stated, slamming a hand down on the counter. The owner didn't even respond, merely pouring the group each a glass of what seemed to be an expensive liquor into a few shot glasses. The five proceeded to drink and cause a bunch of noise, much to Roy's annoyance. He ventured the thought of just going to the room he had purchased but something kept him planted in his seat. However, the group was making it really hard for him to enjoy his drink and he was having a hard time keeping his cool. One of the humans finally took notice of the nightmare and decided it would be a good idea to mess with him. Walking over to him, the skinny human draped his arm over his shoulder. " How ya doin rabbit boy? You've been quiet over here." He said, breath reeking of cigarette smoke and liquor. "Get ya arm off of me before I have to break it,ya cunt." Roy stated, a tight grip on his beer. The man laughed as his friends now egged him on, " Ohhh the big bad hare is gonna do something? Go ahead, try something. Me and my boys will put you in the ground."

More laughing came from the group, and this was the last straw for Roy. He'd apologize to the owner later but he was not one for being touched. Before anyone could react, he grabbed the beer bottle by the neck and smashed it against the man's head hard. As the man stumbled back, Roy quickly grabbed the arm that was on his shoulder and twisted it in an unnatural way. A sickening crunch and snap signalled that Roy made very good on his threat. He left the man's arm a mangled mess without even having to really try. The skinny man yells out in pain, holding his busted arm. "Aye get that motherfucker! He broke Jimmy's arm!" ordered the ogre. The other three charged Roy, who already had his hands up. He sniffed a bit, as the only one he was worried about was the ghoul. He figured the ogre was all talk, but ghoul's played for keeps most of the time. The first guy, a more bulky human than the first, caught a firm right jab to his nose. Recoiling back, Roy kicked him in the chest sending him careening into an already broken table. The ghoul took the chance to tackle Roy to the ground, trying to cut him with his sharp claw-like nails. Roy quickly grabbed his hands as the two monsters fought against the other's strength. Gritting his teeth, Roy took a cut to his cheek in order to yank the ghoul closer and headbutt him. This caused the ghoul to roll off him in pain and Roy got an opportunity to stand again. Another human, a short one, was running over with a chair ready to get Roy right in the back. Due to his hearing though, Roy very effortlessly spun and kicked the small human full-force, sending him right into a wall. Suddenly, the first human put Roy into a solid hold. Roy would usually be able to break out of it easily, but the ghoul had other plans. Grabbing the unused chair, he slammed it right into Roy's stomach. This caused the chair to break and Roy to get the wind knocked out of him. Stumbling a bit, Roy had to take a second to regain his senses. His vision blurry, he could still see the ghoul preparing to slash him. Thinking fast, he hopped up and kicked the ghoul as hard as he could to knock him back. The resulting force also sent Roy and the man holding him into a wall. Hitting the wall made the man let go and Roy quickly turned, nailing the man in the jaw with a solid punch. Taking deep breaths, Roy started to finally get his bearing back...Then a sharp and instant pain crawled across his back. An angry yell of pain came from the nightmare, as he realized that the ghoul finally caught him off guard. Turning, Roy grabbed the ghoul's hand as he had tried to cut Roy again. More than a little done at this point, Roy knocked the ghoul down. Grabbing a chair leg from the broken chair, he savagely beat the ghoul with it until he was no longer moving. He knew that he couldn't really kill him without fire so he made very sure he'd be out for the count this time. Panting, Roy dropped the chair leg and stood stumbling back into the very orge that had been absent from this brawl. The ogre picked up the nightmare and threw him into the bar, as the owner ducked as to not get him. Roy felt pain spread through his whole body as he laid in a heap on the floor.

" Alright that's enough of that. Damn nightmare..." grunted the ogre. Behind the counter, Roy was in a daze trying to get his bearings. Looking at his fur it was now covered in a mix of his purple blood and the multiple liquors much to his dismay. It'd take so long to clean. The sight made him much, much more angry than he was already. He wasn't letting that orge go without getting him back first. Ignoring all his pain, a much angrier Roy stood up and roared. His gaze fell on the orge, who was ready to leave. The ogre turned quickly, looking at the livid predator before him. The sight made the gang leader more nervous than he'd ever admit. " You gotta be joking. Alright then come on if you want some more!" The ogre yelled, beating his chest. Roy leaped onto the large green monster and bit into his shoulder roughly. His sharp teeth easily digging into the flesh of the other monster. The ogre screamed in pain, trying to pry Roy off of him. However, Roy wasn't budging merely digging his teeth in deeper. The ogre punched at the wounds on Roy's back, finally getting him to let go. Tossing him off, the orge held his shoulder in pain. Roy tumbled on the ground, before running at him again. He was in a complete haze of anger and didn't care about much of anything other than the fight. The ogre was still recovering from the bite he took, and was unable to protect from Roy punching him right in the throat. Falling to his knees, the ogre held his throat gasping for air. Roy was ready to end him now. Gripping him by his hair, Roy dragged him to the counter and slammed his head into it three times. The orge was knocked out after the second, and Roy dropped him like an unwanted toy once he finished. Taking a deep breath, Roy took any money he could find on the thugs. They'd go directly to his funds for cleaning out his fur. The owner finally reappeared at that moment with the police in tow. Roy sat at the bar as the owner went over to him. "Holy shit man! Are you gonna be okay!?" The owner looked rather concerned for the monster. Roy, for his part, had taken quite a beating. He sighed and looked at the owner. "Yeah I'll be okay mate... Bit annoyed I spilled my beer though.." Roy said through deep breaths. The owner couldn't help but laugh a bit at that. "I'll get you as many as ya want once you're patched up... You looking for a job?" The owner inquired. That was something Roy wanted to hear. Seems the day wasn't a total waste.
