Just the world building for Hathia

Some tidbits about Hathia

So U.S history follows the same path as it did in our world, but as there were anthros humans never really enslaved other humans, as the mammal and avian dominated kingdoms of Europe preferred Bug and Reptile slaves to similar enough mammals and avians. Due to aforementioned events the "american black" doesn't exist, as dark humans just stayed where they were until the European powers smacked them during the age of imperialism, meaning that there are *some* of the different races across the world, it's generally less. Some things happened as usual, Asians still migrated en mass to the West and Europeans to the East coasts of the U.S, it's just there are anthro along with the humans, like you have the japanese but there are some Kitsune, Tanuki, as well as just regular japanese people as we know them today. As for why reptiles and arthropods were chosen as slaves, it seems fairly obvious to me. A). Work faster in the heat B). Need less food in the cold C). Immune to mosquitos and therefore most tropical diseases D). Snakes have a harder time biting through chitin and scales than fur and skin.

I didn't bother changing anyone from history, didn't really want to put in the effort but really anyone who was only sorta or not important can be changed, for example: Jimmy Carter, James Garfield, Canute the 3rd, most Holy Roman Emperors, Charles the Bold, Most Italian Leaders from 900 to 1796, Most kings of minor nations, most tribal leaders.

Hathia is an island the size of England and Wales off the coast of Florida, on the east coast are mountains and cliffs, it was originally settled by fleeing Andalusian Muslims in the mid 1500s who vanished due to the native tribes killing them and then adopting their way of life, it remained a Spanish holding until Napoleon seized it during the Napoleonic Wars and sold it to the U.S as part of Florida. When U.S settlers arrived from the South they were greeted by the tribes who claimed to be Spanish. However, the people of Hathia, the Spanish, and much of the U.S Congress thought Hathia was still Spanish. Hathia declared independence from Spain in the 1820s and rather easily won its independence. Come the age of Manifest Destiny, the island nation of Hathia was invaded and annexed sometime in the 1850s as a territory under Buchanan as a compromise (he wanted more land, everyone else didn't but Hathia was pretty much irrelevant and defenseless). During the Civil War, Hathia sided with the South as a way to rebel against the U.S who had invaded them. Hathia never fell but nonetheless stayed with the U.S. Aside from the native snakes and gators (of whom were not considered "reptiles" under U.S law) it was really only U.S Whites and Europeans who came to Hathia. As there wasn't really any jobs on Hathia aside from the fishing port and the canning companies Hathia's population is sitting about 1.2 million, of whom around 500,000 live in the capital, largest, and only real city on the island. However during the post war period, the largely anthro population of Hathia became even more anthro dominated as many of the human residents who had been drafted settled in the mainland with other humans. Most of the humans on Hathia live on the mountains on the east coast in a handful of small villages, some live in the city as well.

Hathia is also the only state without a synagogue, as there are officially no Jewish residents. Hathia is also home to the oldest mosque in the Americas, and the islamic origins of Hathia's west coast is still reflected in the names and building styles of the southernmost tip of the Western Hathian coast.

Hathia's population is shrinking despite its rather high birth rate (2.6 bpw), due to a lack of opportunities for careers. Many Hathian dislike the increasingly touristly part of their capital city, with the strong muslim minority finding it to erase part of its history and everyone else because they don't like how mainlanders look down on them for having their unique accent. The main part of Hathia's economy is fishing followed by agriculture, with Hathian canned seafood being internationally loved under the brand name "Happy Hathian '' which sells a vast variety of gulf coast and west atlantic seafood.

Tucker is a human who has his roots on the east coast of Hathia, his favorite food is a kind of seafood mix called a "Borie" which is a dish consisting of steamed crab and lobster with a mix of vegetables cooked together and eaten with Hathian biscuits (just southern style biscuits made with barley flour), a spiced garlic butter sauce locally called Iqmar (Ik-Marr), and roasted brussel sprouts. A very traditional meal by Hathian standards.

By contrast Jenny's family is from New Caen where a hybrid french cuisine is more popular, but her favorite food is something locally called a Hot Breton, a sandwich made on a long rye bun with spicy fried shrimp, onions cooked in beef broth, tartar sauce (but not very much), crisp lettuce, and tomatoes and it's often served with fries or onion rings, or potato chips, and a long sweet pickle. A rather new meal but seen as "proper" as it was invented sometime in the 70s.
