The Purpose of PPE

Thursday Prompt

9/2/10

The gym was damp and hot, the smell of sweat mixed with smoke would hurt any fur's nose. The gym was decorated with a mixture of sports figures and firefighting gear and murals. Men were spread around the room, working their muscles and trying to stay toned. Some were lifting weights, others were on a treadmill, but in the center was a boxing ring with two figures in it.

"Come on Anette! Keep your hands up!" a male kangaroo said with a muffled voice from wearing his mouth guard. He lightly hopped around, his blue boxing gloves staying in front of his face.

This Anette he was speaking of wore red boxing gear, fluffs of her thick collie fur fluffing out in between the foam. She didn't respond, just picked her hands up higher and began to jump around, obviously a little winded. She may have been a strong female with all of her firefighting training, but she still wasn't very good at boxing, particularly against Cameron.

"'Atta girl!" he said, moving towards her with a forceful grace. He threw a punch and she just dodged it, her eyes going wide. She threw her on punch with her left paw and tapped him lightly on the shoulder.

"That is the best you got?" Cameron said with a laugh, "What happened to that bunch that turned that guys worlds around?"

She chuckled at the memory. "Didn't think you would enjoy that much."

"Lets go, no holds barred. Hell, bring in some of that kick boxing you do," he said with a over confident, but still friendly smile. The two had gone through the academy together and had become great friends, but competition was just part of who they were at the most basic level. She raised her eye brows at him as he began to move back from her.

He didn't get to far though. Before he could evaluate the changes she had made, Anette flew at him, her left leg came up to him. He panicked and did the only thing he could think to do. Jump.

That was a bad idea. His feet cleared her knee, but he couldn't stay in the air long enough. He came down, crotch first, on to her knee. He screamed out and closed his eyes tight as he came back down to the ring, falling to the side. Anette watched him, trying to hide her laugh.

"Damn girl..." he said gasping, with light tears coming from his eyes. "Never do I say no holds barred with you."

She nodded her head offering a hand to him.

"Well, this wouldn't have happened if you were wearing your Personal Protective Equipment like the chief always says."

Cameron took her hand and stood up. "No, I suppose it wouldn't have."
