A New Friend

First Day of School

Recess

As the thunderstorm raged outside, the indoor recess continued unhindered by the pounding rain and rumbling thunder. Watchful eyes monitored the cubs as they engaged in various activities, whether they were tossing any of the available balls or sitting in specially marked chairs for those who were in trouble. An-Yan and Kylen sat in the larger of the two ball pits which was at the bottom of the tallest tube slide. They sat in the far corner of the two foot deep pool of plastic, rainbow assortment of balls watching as the other cubs crashed into the ball pit sounding like an explosive bowling strike. Despite the balls flying around inside the pit, the brothers kept to themselves, stealthily holding hands under the cover of the balls.

They watched as their friend Whitetip entered the ball put was guiding another chakat inside. The second chakat was pink and white with a fox like color pattern. Hir ears were taller than Whitetip's ears but still triangular in shape with back tips. The underside of hir tail was white all the way to the black tip. White stretched from just above the elbow down to hir wrist leaving hir with pink hands and repeated for hir legs. Hir head hair was black and tied back into a pony tail. As the two chakats walked through the pool of balls, it became clearer that the new chakat was a domestic type like Whitetip and the brothers released their hands and waved at the chakats as they approached. Stopping a foot or two from the brothers, Whitetip smiles and points to the new chakat next to hir "An, Ky, I want you to meet my friend, Snowchaser." Shi looks at the chakat and points to the brothers. "And that is An-Yan and Kylen.."

"Hi." Snowchaser said softly and gave a shy wave. "The teachers call me Tammi but I prefer Snowchaser."

With a smile, Kylen waves to Snowchaser and blushes a little. "Hello."

"Hi Snowchaser." An-Yan said trying to be a little more confident than Kylen was.

Kylen perked up some when Whitetip tackled An-Yan and the two of them vanished underneath the rainbow array of balls. He watched as Snowchaser got closer to him, holding a smile. "Whitetip said that you wanted a chakat friend like you're brother." Shi said with light blush. "And you're cute."

Blushing a little more, Kylen gently kicks a few of the balls around. "I do...I like chakats, they are pretty."

An-Yan and Whitetip emerge from the ball giggling as they look at Kylen and Snowchaser. "Have you got to know each other yet?" Whitetip asked still giggling.

"Maybe?" Snowchaser said trying to hold a straight face.

"Well I think you two will be A-OK together." Whitetip said with a wink as shi held An-Yan's hand.

Snowchaser looked at Kylen and smiled him but without warning, the pink chakat pounced Kylen, disappearing under the ball. They reappear and gently throw balls at An-Yan and WhiteTip. They four of them continue to throw balls at each other and bouncing around the pool until the teachers blow their whistles to signal the end of Recess. The vast array of cubs leave the indoor playground and line up at the door almost like they were a group of soldiers. A head count was taken to ensure all cubs before returning them to their respective classrooms.

At 2:45 PM the bells rings to signal the end of the day. The once quiet school halls erupt with the noise so students rushing out to busses and cars to be taken home. On school bus 91, An-Yan, Kylen, Whitetip and Snowchaser sti in the last two seats of the bus letting the other cubs sit in the front seats. Paper balls flew from side of the bus to another. Cubs yelled out "stop touching me" until the yellow and white fox who was the bus driver, simply waved his hand and the entire bus suddenly went quiet. The bus leaves the school along with the other buses and Snowchaser looked at Kylen.

"You're a year younger than An-Yan, right?" Snowchaser asked and promptly got a nod from the young bree. "Then how are you two in the same class?"

"I'm not sure, Snowchaser, I guess I was just really good in my school work." Kylen said with a wink. An-Yan looked at him along with Whitetip.

"Our nick name is "The Full House Brothers", whatever that means." An-Yan said crossing his arms not really sure as to what else he can say.

Snowchaser giggles and blushes slightly. "That you two are with each other a lot." The back of the bus goes silent as the students in the front get off in front of the "The Hollykids Center".

Once the bus starts moving again, Kylen looks at Whitetip, then to Snowchaser. "You two are working together!?" He asked a trying to be stern but blushing at the same time.

"Just like you and An do all the time." Whitetip said with a giggle.

Kylen crosses his arms and pouts a little, looking out the window. "That is true." The chakats giggle at the pouting Kylen as An-Yan pats his brother's leg.

"It's OK Ky, they are just being silly." An-Yan said trying to calm his brother down.

Kylen remained quiet for the rest of the trip as the only noise was the revving diesel engine and whine of the supercharger as the bus quickly accelerated to merge with highway traffic. The remained generally quiet until the next and the largest bunch of students got off and waved to the bus driver as he closed the door and drove away. The four cubs in the back where the last to be dropped off and the bus driver quickly sped off as the four walked into the subdivided housing away.

After turning the corner, the quartet broke up. Snowchaser walked to the corner house on the left as Whitetip and the brothers walked over where Sliver Fox Court and were Twin Otters turned to the left to go back to the main road. Whitetip waved bye to the brothers as she walked down to hir house. The brothers walked up to their house and spotted their father's truck parted backwards into the driveway and ran over to it.

Hearing the rapidly approaching footsteps, Xander leaned back some and looked beyond the hood of the truck and moved over to the grass but the tall umbreon was suddenly pounced by his two sons. Lying in the grass, Xander laughed and hugged his boys, kissing both of them on the forehead gently. "Hello boys."

"HI FATHER!" They both exclaimed waving their tails wildly. Kylen blinks and looks at the sticker on Xander's right ear. "Father, why is there, "Detroit Dies-el Ser-is 60 on your ear?"

With a hum, Xander pulls the sticker off and looks at it. "Detroit Diesel Series 60, that was your mother's idea to put that there." He stands up with the boys still holding on to him and walked over to the large black truck.

"So where does it go?" An-Yan asked as Xander opened the hood of the truck exposing the large, motor inside.

"It goes here." Xander said putting the sticker on the valve cover of the engine. "That is where it should go."

"Cool! Can we get to ride on the truck with you?" An-Yan asked with a smile.

"Yea! We want to go with you!" Kylen said as standing next to his brother both looking up at their father.

"Let's see here, both of you are in fourth grade. An-Yan you're nine and Kylen you're 8." The fatherly umbreon said and paused. "How about for winter break, I'll take you boys on my longest load, 2300 miles?"

"WOW~ That's far!" both said as their father closed the hood of the truck. With a nod the brothers looked at each other and smiled widely. "We'll go!"

As the school year progressed, Kylen and Snowchaser would get closer together until they shared the same relationship that An-Yan and Whitetip had. Even when Kylen went on the 2 week trip with his brother like their father promised, Kylen made sure he called Snowchaser every chance he was given and An-Yan the same. However, both of these relationships would take completely different turns.

The Secret

5 years later - 3 days after Summer Camp

Sliding off the bed in just his underwear, Kylen stretched and looked at the alarm clock seeing that it was half-passed six in the morning. Moving over to An-Yan's bed, Kylen gave his brother a hug and peck kiss on the forehead knowing that he was still grieving over Whitetip moving away. "I know Ky but I thought it would be fun to have Whitetip along with me." An-Yan said sitting up in the bed and stretching his arms. "But like you said it's OK because I have you and I'll get to meet new people.

Sliding off the bed, Kylen moved to let his brother get out of bed. An-Yan stretched a little more also just wearing a pair of underwear. Kylen giggled at the sight of brother and started to walk towards the bathroom but was pounced by An-Yan who pinned Kylen to the floor. As An-Yan grinned like he was going attack, Kylen reversed the position and pinned An-Yan to the floor. "BOYS! You two better be getting into the bathtub and washing your bodies!" Their mother called out to them from the bottom of the stairs. "If you two are lollygagging, I will come up there and wash you myself."

Instantly, the brothers stopped wrestling and quickly made their way to the bathroom. 4 Days Later

Happy birthday balloons and signs were strung everywhere in the house and back yard with the smell of hotdogs, hamburgers and one 36x24 inch birthday cake filled the first floor of the house. The backyard was setup in way they it looked like a small carnival with a few games and even a scrambler style amusement ride. Xenon was downstairs prepping the food and drinks while Xander fussed with the ride operator about the ride electronic hook up.

The doorbell rang and Xenon, skimpily dressed like always, answers the door to find that it was Mica and his father. Mica was holding a medium sized box with a yellow bow. ""Xander is in the back with the workers from amusement central."

"Oh, OK, Mrs. Rosewood." Mica said walking into the living room and placing the present with the others. "Can I go up to An-Yan's room?"

"Yes, Mica you can." Xenon said before turning her attention to Mookie. "If you'd like a drink they in the cooler out back with Xander, screwdrivers if you like those."

"That sounds great Xenon, thank you." Mookie said as a very frustrated Xander waved to him.

As the parents continued prepping for the party, Mica made his way upstairs to An-Yan and Kylen's room where the door was cracked open. He walked quietly into the bedroom just to see a naked and blushing An-Yan who gasps at the sight of Mica and quickly runs into the bathroom. Curious, Mica slowly walks further into the room and looks at Kylen as he yawns and stretches, waking up.

"And what was it, Kylen?" Mica asked tilting his head to the side.

Silence filled the room until An-Yan came out the bathroom still blushing and Kylen went inside. The slightly taller An-Yan kept a towel around his waist as he looked for something to wear as Mica walked over to him.

"An-Yan, is something wrong, this is not like you?" Mica asked placing a hand on the bree's shoulder.

An-Yan finished dressing in front of Mica with a pair of blue denim jeans and white collared shirt. He walks over to the mirror with a limp. "I feel funny now and Mica..." He turns to face his friend with a comb in his hands. "Don't tell anyone, please?"

Mica nods and moves to An-Yan and hug him. "I won't tell."

Several minutes later, the three boys walk downstairs where the adults were as well as Snowpaws and Snowchaser. Attention turned to the birthday boy and a round of applause fills the room. An-Yan smiles and waves at the adults just before Snowchaser pounces him. The four adults laugh and toast the birthday with cocktails.

Blushing, An-Yan limps over to the adults who all start singing happy birthday. Kylen, Mica and Snowchaser join in singing, circling around An-Yan. When the song ends, An-Yan limps over to his presents. The adults think that Snowchaser's pounce has something to do with An-Yan's limping but Snowchaser tilted hir head to side in confusion. Knowing that hir pounce was not that rough, shi wonders if something else was wrong with the ninebreon.

As An-Yan opens his presents, Snowchaser watches as An-Yan's left leg shakes like it's having a hard time baring weight. Still confused, Snowchaser grabs Kylen's hand and leads to foyer as An-Yan opens the last present, a laptop computer. Shi crosses hir arms and flicks hir tail in frustration.

Kylen shakes his head and tries to hide his blush knowing why his big brother was limping. "No, he's just really nervous about his birthday and but really happy at the same time for what is the best birthday ever!"

"If you say so Ky." Shi replied staring at Kylen trying to figure out if he was lying or being truthful. A few seconds later, they return to the group.

Gulping, Kylen keeps his tails low unlike his brother but perks up with the call for food is made and is first in the kitchen. Once the food was served, he sat next to An-Yan on the left and Mica was on the right side. Kylen rubbed his brother's leg softly and quietly apologized to him if he hurt him. An-Yan stealthily held Kylen's hand and whispered that it's OK and he still loves his little brother.

The events of An-Yan's birthday remained a well-kept secret leaving Snowchaser completely confused. Kylen and An-Yan continued to show affection to each other like they always did until Kylen's 14th birthday one year later. An-Yan returned the favor to Kylen from one year ago. "Well..." The chakat paused to think and Kylen just looked at Snowchaser wondering what shi was plotting. "I could not get a reservation at 54 so...I got one at Amorusona instead. Sorry Ky, I knew you were really looking forward to going to 54."

With a smile, Kylen nods to Snowchaser. "Sure, just show me the way."

Leaving the apartment building, Kylen and Snowchaser got in the car and headed towards downtown. After 20 minutes of driving and 20 more minutes to park, Kylen finally decided to pay the seven dollars for specialized parking in front of the club. They walked down to the front of the line that was lined up along the front of the building from the front door. Inside, the club was filled with loud music and the array of patrons that stayed between the dance floor, the bar and the table area.
