Goodbye Howard (Anti War Poem)
A very old friend of mine died recently. He lived a long life and lived it to the fullest. This poem I wrote for him as a goodbye. He was a veteran of WWII a loving husband a caring father and good friend. This is for all those who knew someone who has been through hard times and either didnt make it back or came back....but was never the same again.
Hatred leads to many things
The dislike for other human beings
It halts the progress of mankind
It's better to have peace you'll find
Now it's my turn to fight in war
Rickety plane...nothing more
Packed away in my gunner seat
Hoping I wont soon taste defeat
Alive I was nothing more
Now dead....a hero of war
My body stacked in endless rows
This is how the story goes
Unmarked graves...nothing more
For the unknown heroes of war
I may not be the best writer in the world....or the best artist...but I knew one great man...and I'm grateful for the time I had.
