Alienation
Jonas fell to his knees still looking at his hands asking himself the same question over and over in his mind. "What have I become?" He asked himself in a low tone making sure that Leona didn't notice what he was saying. He looked at everything around him and the sight of dead bodies caused him to have a flashback of when he was defending the Core worlds from the Wolfen race that had persecuted the humans of invading all the other species peace. He looked at a private and he saw his brother's face instead of the privates own.
"Team Alpha...bzzzrt....come in Alpha!" A radio buzzed in Jonas's helmet when he looked over at his commanding officer and shook his head while getting up from crouching and began to run to a door Alpha team had just breached. He took cover with his back against the wall near the door and leaned to try and get a look at the situation inside when plasma fire hit the wall near him. He brought his head back so he didn't get hit and grabbed a grenade, pulled the pin and waited two seconds before tossing it in the door. The following explosion rocked the ground and he whipped himself into the room waiting for targets to light up on his HUD but none showed. He walked over to where the crater was and saw a few paws and burnt fur lining the ground and wall telling him that a few Wolfen soldiers had been killed in the blast. He saw movement to his left and immediately fired a few shot from the hip towards the other end of the room. A paw come from around a corner to a hallway popped out with a white rag on it with blood smeared across it. Jonas knew it as the universal sign of a truce or surrender and walked over to see a wolf holding its side, panting heavily. Jonas grabbed the wolf by its shoulder and slung it arm across his neck and slowly dragged him out. His squad rushed over and saw him carrying out a wounded wolf. "Why the fuck are you helping the damn thing!?" his commanding officer shouted. "He held out a white rag or at least what I figured was his way of surrendering." The wolf looked up and saw the others and tried to get out of Jonas's grasp. "Where the fuck are you going, you damn dog?" Jonas asked as he dragged it over to the rest of the squad and let him sit against a tree. The wolf looked at them all and muttered something in english. "I thought these things didn't speak english." One of the privates said in a whisper to a corporal. Jonas walked over to it and crouched down. "What did you say?" The wolf looked at him square in the eye and said "I said you can fucking shoot me if you want." Jonas looked at the wolf in surprise and shook his head. "No, I'm going to try and get you some medical attention. You don't seem to be like the rest." Jonas had unknowingly jumped into the wolfs mind and found out that bit of info.
The wolf just shook his head. "They'll kill me if they found out I was even talking to you sapients." One of the privates tried to hit the wolf but Jonas socked him in the face. "Bro, you need to calm the fuck down." The private looked at him and stormed off. "And why would that be?" The wolf cleared his throat and responded. "They hate you. For some reason they hate you even exist. I know you sapients aren't as bad as they say. You proved that to me earlier sapient when you saw me give up. Not many do that anymore." Jonas nodded his head in understanding. Jonas looked to his commanding officer and asked. "Permission to speak, Sir?" The C.O. thought for a second and nodded. "Permission granted, Captain." Jonas sighed. "As much as I hate to ask since you all seem to hate that the wolves even started this but can we at least get him some medical attention?" Jonas motioned his hand towards the wolf. The C.O. looked stunned and replied. "Only if you think it'll help us any." Jonas nodded and was about to help the wolf up but a mortar round hit near them, scattering the marines as they went sailing through the air and hitting tree or the ground in the process. A few more pounded the area killing a few of the marines instantly as they were vaporized by the mortar rounds. Jonas's ears were ringing and he was dazed by the blast. He thought he heard gunfire but didn't see where it came from.
The C.O. was shouting orders when he was hit in the head and went down as did some of the his squad. Jonas picked up his rifle and shot a few round into the brush and the firing stopped. He looked over at the wolf to see it with shrapnel sticking out of it side right where the initial shrapnel had hit before. Jonas stood up and staggered over to one of the privates and that's when plasma round hit him in the leg sending him into the ground. He raised his rifle and fired as a wolf tried running at him from the brush swinging its rifle at him and it went down with multiple plasma scarring on its chest. Jonas crawled over to every one of the privates looking for his brother. He thought that he had been hit with one of the mortar rounds but he heard a blood soaked cry. "J-j-jonas!" Jonas looked over towards a tree and saw his brother with shrapnel sticking out of his chest. "Ricky!" Jonas crawled as fast as he could to his brother and propped himself up against the tree. "J-jonas...t..tell Lisa...t-that I'm..s-sorry I..I Didn't make i-i-it back h-home." jonas shook his head. "Ricky, you're gonna be fine just wait here for a sec." jonas crawled over to his helmet and popped it and heard a hiss as it sealed itself onto his armor. "This is Charlie squad and we need an EVAC ASAP!" Jonas shouted into his helmet's radio transmitter. "bzzt....will....bzzzt...be there in 4 minutes." was all he heard as he crawled over to his brother who's breathing was labored. "J-jonas....I'm not gonna...make...it." Jonas shook his head and said to his brother. "Stop saying that...you're going to make it." Ricky shook his head and looked at him and placed a hand weakly on his shoulder. Jonas heard the drop ship above them and he looked up and waved his arms signaling the drop ship to their location. "Alright, this is a combat zone...get them out of here as quickly as possible!" shouted a medic as they jumped out of the drop ship as it landed. Jonas looked back at his brother and felt him go limp as his arm slipped to the ground and Jonas looked in horror as his only family died right in front of him. The medics got to him and they checked Ricky for any pulse and the medic shook his head and Jonas just looked at his brother as he was carried away by the medics, not believing what he just saw.
Jonas was snapped out of it by Leona patting him on the shoulder as he realized he had been crying while he was reliving losing his brother. Leona looked at him and saw his fangs and she jumped back. "Where did you get those?" she asked, very afraid. Jonas looked at her. "Where did I get what?" Leona pointed at him and said. "Those fangs...where did you get those?" Jonas felt at his teeth figuring that they had gone away already but was shocked to see that they were still there. "Leona, I don't know where I got these. They just come out on their own when I feel angered or saddened by something." Leona had a look of shock and fear on her face as she crawled over to him and then took off running on all fours into the forest, leaving Jonas alone with his thoughts. Jonas stood up and closed his eyes, knowing that she wouldn't come back at all and he took a deep breath when a couple wolves popped out of the brush and surrounded him. He opened his eyes smelling that they didn't mean harm unless it was necessary. "What do you want?" Jonas asked slightly annoyed that they were surrounding him. One of the wolves stepped forward. "A leader of our pack asked for your presence. And she said that if you refused that we have a right to make you follow us." Jonas just sighed and shook his head. "I'll follow only because I'm tired of fighting." The wolf motioned with his hand. "This way." Jonas followed behind the wolf as the others dropped in behind him.
