For Thursday Prompt 2-18-10: Painting

Rei sat on the hill, waiting. It was late in March and she was finally done with everything. It was now just her life, her prerogatives, and her wanting to life positively. That is why she was here. Or at least the original reason. The seen before her was much like one of those paintings that people had to do in art school. The colors blended seamlessly and people just seemed like little dots. She leaned back on to the recently created stump that she had chosen, looking at the sky. There was something just so magical about being outside on days like today.

Magic. That was a topic, was it not? The second reason she had come her is because recently she had been taking some religion and philosophy classes to fill in missing gaps for her diploma. Her belief in the Goddess had started to waver a bit, not because of her convictions but because she was becoming very tired of being told she was going to their so called hell. She sighed, waiting for the blue sky to become black.

She fell asleep in the sun, waking up a few hours later, the time only really feeling like an hour or so. She felt and looked more refreshed then she had in ages. The late March air was quickly turning from warm and crisp to cool and windy. A shiver went down her back, her thinning wolf fur bristling. She stood up and picked up the cloak she was previously laying on.

She spun it around and it draped on her shoulders. The deep royal purple colored velvet blended with the pinks and blues of the setting sun. She smiled, feeling a warmth grow within her that she had not felt in a while. Her rich chocolate eyes seemed to grow misty. The wolfess closed her eyes for a moment completely grounding herself. When she opened her eyes up again, there was a certain spark in them, the one that her friends said made her eyes seem like they were more of an amber with gold instead of the normal chocolate. She stretched her arms out to the side, the tightness leaving her body.

She grabbed a small pouch that was filled with candles and a lighter. She placed them in four different spots on the rock, and then two in the middle one. She smiled, happily forgetting about the angry words of the scholars, forgetting what was outside of her self created bubble.

The sky grew darker and only the stars appeared. It was the night of the full moon, a good night for expunging the negative from something. Like life. She waited a few more moments, just getting more and more in touch with herself and the earth around her, the darkness covering her. Her purple cloak stuck out just enough to be found when she wanted to be. The wind started to blow and the red tips of her ears blew off to one side. She pulled the cloak closer, wishing she had worn a bit warmer clothes underneath. Ah well, one can not change the past.

She took a deep breath and started to speak. "Fire, please come and protect me as I open my circle," she said lighting the red candle that was in the south direction. "Water, please come and allow me to flow with the magic around me as I open my circle," she said, lighting the dark blue candle in the west direction. "Earth, please come and keep me tied to the world as I open my circle," she said, lighting the dark beige candle in the north. "Air, please come and bring clarity to me as I open my circle," she said, lighting the light blue candle in the East.

She smiled and breathed in deep, somehow feeling the elements begin to surround her. She looked at the two candles in the middle. She took the white candle and looked at it. She closed her eyes and bowed her head, as if praying.

"Mother Goddess, please be with me and assist me with life; assist me with my path that I must go down. Please guide me through my ritual. We have all come from you and we shall all return to you," she said, opening her eyes and lighting the candle, holding it for a few seconds more before placing it back down in the middle.

"Father God, please lend me your strength and your vitality through my path in life. Please allow my day to be strong and healthy as I continue on," she said to the black candle, lighting and holding it for a few moments. As she placed it back down she smiled, her ears being straight up without being tense for the first time in a long time.

She began to walk around the stump, repeating her invites to the elements and the god and goddess. Her muscles relaxed even farther. Why had see not done this sooner? Because it was not the right time, a little voice in her head said. She nodded to no one in particular, continuing to feel the power rise and spiral around her.

She imagined what the power would look like if someone tried to illustrate it. She closed her eyes and saw streams of purple, silver, and orange, a ball of deep red hovering above the stump. The colors all swirled and mixed together, as if having a conversation. She sat down on the grass in between the fire and air candle. She wanted to feel very close to these to, to have the fire enhance passion and life and the air to carry away the negativity and bring about the new life she craved.

She just sat there, having mini conversations with herself and speaking with the goddess. She had no particular criteria or order of doing things during her little ritual, but figured that if it came to mind it was important. After a while she began to really smile, the strong and independent wolfess that she was began to show, the person she had been missing for so long.

She felt the weights being lifted off her shoulders, the negativity being washed away, her mind just letting it all go. If it wanted it to go back to those who caused it, then so be it, but she asked it not to, she just asked it to go on its way. She closed her eyes once more, imagining the goddess and god embracing her, telling her it was okay to just live, that her life was hers and no one else. Unknowingly a few tears began to trickle down her cheeks as she just let it all go and felt the magic around her. The magic of herself and the earth.

She sniffled a bit and opened her eyes. Even thought the tears were there, she didn't no wipe them. She started to go around to each of the candles, starting with Fire, and thanking them for their presence, inviting them to stay with her or go about their way. When she finished with the Air candle she extended her arms upward, feeling the deep red ball of energy dissipate. She knew it wasn't there for real to the eye, but she still felt it. She brought her hands down and picked up the black candle.

"Thank you Father God for you assistance. I ask that you join me again in the future as I keep you vitality and strength with me. So mote it be," she said, snuffing out the flame and replacing the candle to it's spot.

"Mother Goddess, thank you for your assistance. I ask that you join me again in the future as I keep following you path and listening for your guidance. So mote it be," she said, once again snuffing the candle and replacing it.

She felt worn out, but it was a good worn out. Something she hadn't felt in a while. It wasn't emotional or physical, but some strange mixture of the two. She yawned, in taking a breath full of fresh air and releasing something else. The red and black wolf knelt down and began to pack up her candles. As she finished up she heard rustling and looked over her shoulder. A tall raccoon man was running towards her, a worried expression on his face.

"I was so worried about you!" he said in a desperate voice. "I have been looking for you for 5 hours now!"

She blinked at him and looked down at her watch. It was almost ten o'clock. She had not really told him what she was doing or where she was going. She sighed and looked up at him, her eyes still amber and gold.

"I'm sorry hun, I just got so caught up in everything," she said, trailing off.

"Well, I suppose it is alright since your safe. And you look healthier. Been talking with the higher ups?" the raccoon said with a slight smile. Rei nodded back at him, her fur moving in the wind. He reached out a paw to help her up. Her arm came out of her cloak and her paw grabbed his, the warmth flowing back into her body.

"Love, I know it is cold out, but your absolutely frigid. I think you need to eat something," he said with a worried expression.

"Probably. I have just been out here enjoying the world. I forgot to eat my granola bar that I packed."

"Silly puppy," he said, stroking her muzzle. "I'll carry the bag. Let's go home," he said taking the bag from her and reaching into it, nimble raccoon hands filtering through and finding the granola bar. "And eat as we go. I have dinner ready for when we get home."

She took the bar and started to eat it, her other paw grabbing his. She looked and smiled at him.

"From now own my life is my own. I want my life to be part of yours so that it is our life, if that is okay," she said, blushing a bit. "I also don't want to have other people who are unhappy affecting us anymore. Let's just be us."

The raccoon smiled and nodded, drawing her in for a deep and strong hug. The painting that she had imagined at the beginning of the day had suddenly shifted to this moment right her as she put her arms around him and smiled wide.
