Everything inside the building was shiny and flourescent, all in place to make it look like any ordinary pokemon center. In fact, it could very well serve that purpose. But just behind the clean plates of the back door there was a project underway which would revolutionize the world of Pokemon professory.

Penny concluded her inspection with a nod of approval toward her own mirrored image in one of the clean metal panels. The scientist was a bit chubby, with black hair tied in a long thick braid that nearly touched the floor. She lacked the standard issue glasses that would have suited her labcoat, but the back of her braid was secured with a series of pins that formed a DNA pattern.

Outside the glass doors and windows, the street was busy. Now that she finally had all the components to begin her grand experiment, the next task was to bring in a suitable subject. Penny had already selected a volunteer, so all that was left to do was go and inform her. She ran a thumb over one of the two pokeballs on her belt. In a bright flash, a Machoke appeared and she smiled at her Pokemon. With her high speed galaxy brain and Chugg's raw strength, there wasn't a trainer who could get in her way.

From the trails and streets surrounding it, a full view could be seen of Lavaridge Town. Tucked down into its own little green alcove below Mt. Chimney. The bottom of the stairs led Penny past rough cut boulders sectioning off the hotsprings where steam crept over the walls. She weaved through the pedestrians until at last the gym came into view. The building advertised itself with rising columns of steam from the chimneys. She entered the front doors of the gym and stepped into the corridors of rocky architecture.

Beyond a cottony ceiling of mist, the reflection of water wavered on the cavernlike ceiling. Flannery stepped toward the edge of the pool and swiped a toe across the hot water. She was a bit more even tempered in adulthood, at least able to relax now and then.

As she stepped in, soothing heat crept up her legs and over her bare butt cheeks divided by the small black thong she wore. Laying herself back, the heat lapped through the mesh cups of the bikini and massaged her sensitive breasts. The slow day gave her a nice moment to relax and she felt as if she were melting in the water, making it all the harder to slip out of the warm grasp. But like the waiting cold outside the sauna, it was inevitable that somebody would interrupt her. The beeping of her cell phone pierced the steam haunted silence. Her feet slapped across the tiles quickly as she checked the automatic notification sent from the front door's camera. Another challenger had arrived at the gym. She quickly stripped out of her bikini and wrapped a towel around herself, making for a nearby door into the adjoining locker room.

Swiping a clear patch through the mirror, Flannery stared at her fiery red headed reflection. She took a breath and raised her fist with her best fierce expression.

"I'll crush you!"

Her face flattened back to neutrality.

"I'll, uh...burn you to cinders!"

As she appraised her mirrored ferocity, the towel around her fell down to spoil it. A growlithe had ventured into the locker room and was sniffing around. When it looked up at the nude gym leader and the conflagration between her legs, it pinned its ears back with a whimper and took cover behind the lockers.

Just as Penny suspected, there was some nerd clogging the path to the gym leader. A cooltrainer leaning against the wall waiting, tossing a pokeball in his hand.

"Flannery can wait. First you'll have to cool me down!"

The guy tossed the ball and unleashed a Flareon, then a moment later Chugg the Machoke flared into shape in front of Penny. For a long moment the four regarded each other without a move. The sound of hissing steam sounded from somewhere deeper in the corridor.

"You going to make a move some time today? Or are you scared to?" He prodded.

Penny only smirked.

"The battle is already over. Out of the forty-two point five ways I could have defeated you, I chose number seven. It was the most merciful,"

As she spoke, her Machoke faded away into nothing.

"...it was an afterimage?"

It was about that time that his Flareon collapsed forward with her rump in the air. He could now see there were glowing red palm prints all over the Pokemon's rear end and a viscous substance flowed out from her ass and vagina as the real Machoke stood nearby with arms crossed.

Water trickled inside the chamber, around a circular alcove where a wash of red color bloomed. The crimson leaves of the trees and in the middle, Flannery herself. Dressed and ready, she now felt the heat only in her blood as she waited for the trainer to draw near. Soon enough, the sound of footsteps could be heard on the stone path.

The trainer appeared, swiftly taking up her position with pokeball in hand.

"Yeah! I'll burn you like pancakes!" Flannery shouted, but then facepalmed before the awkward challenge had finished bouncing from the heights of the chamber.

"...scratch that. So you ready to battle or what?"

Penny nodded, "I am. But how would you feel about a little wager before we battle? Something to shake things up a bit? A favor of sorts, just a little help with my research,"

Flannery was a bit put off by that, her brow twitching briefly downward with irritation.

"Wager? What do you-" Flannery corrected herself in mid sentence, "Look, whatever! I'll win no matter the stakes! So I'll agree to it,"

They tossed their pokemon out. Machoke was faced with an Emboar. Penny frowned at that.

"Hmm..I was expecting a torkoal or magcargo. This does not match my data. So she's decided to change things up. Machoke! Engage attack algorithm twenty-four B!"

The Machoke and Emboar disappeared in unison. A trail of water to the left of the platform shot up into the air as the two pokemon sped over the water and traded a blur of punches. One stray punch shattered a boulder and the two combatants separated amid the flying chunks of debris. They landed back on the arena a second later.

"Attack with all your power!" Flannery shouted.

Her Pokemon's fist burst into flame as it roared toward Machoke. It wasn't a move, but rather the friction against the air particles themselves such was the blow's speed. It blazed beneath Machoke's arms and touched his stomach, but there was no effect. It may as well have been a tennis ball hitting a brick wall. But then a couple seconds after the Emboar dashed back, an impression of knuckles appeared in the Machone's stomach. The Pokemon watched with confusion as the depression got deeper until its belly button was practically pressed against its spine. As time caught up with the blow, the Machoke flew backwards with such force that it ripped shards from the stone platform.

Machoke crashed through a wall, leaving a sizeable hole. But the Pokemon was back on its feet dashing back toward the battle. In its wake, a confused old man peeked out from the hole in the sauna's wall. He hopped out and made a run for the exit holding his towel in place beneath his jiggling belly and the set of pendulous testicles bouncing off the back of his calves.

"Chugg! Maneuver code alpha-five!"

At Penny's command, the Machoke pranced forward like a ballet dancer. It brought its hand up and kissed the back of it, then dropped down from its toes, swung its arm in a circle and backhanded the Emboar with a slap as sharp as a crack of thunder. Flannery's pokemon was sent pinwheeling into a rock feature with a waterfall flowing down between the roots of one of the red leaved trees. The impact destroyed most of it, exposing a pipe that continued to spout water. As the Emboar lay in the debris, the falling water hissed off its fiery mane and this created a wall of steam that obscured it.

Flannery clutched her fists at her side as she looked to her opponent, who looked quite delighted where she stood beyond her Machoke. A pillar of flame shot up, dispersing the steam as Emboar leapt to resume its position. It was still in the fight, though it briefly sunk to a knee when it landed before facing the Machoke again.

"Emboar...I've been going about this wrong. You can't just use overwhelming power. You have to wait for the right moment. Be a match and not a wildfire,"

Flannery took her hand off the Emboar's elbow. The Pokemon turned to face her and gave a poigniant nod, then back to the Machoke. The right time to strike...

Emboar lifted one of its hands. Almost faster than could be seen, one of its claws flicked up and down. The movement was so powerful that it compressed the light into a solid fist. The Machoke's head lolled back with the impact and it flipped over, performing a limp backflip and landing on its feet, now wobbling.

"What??" Penny shouted. Her pokemon fell forward on its face. She had lost.

Back in the laboratory, Penny took her hands off the keyboard. Okay. Maybe her account of the battle was a little exaggerated, but it made for a more interesting log entry amid all the dry data and reports. Besides, things had actually worked out quite well. Penny of course, was never without a backup plan. She leaned back in the armchair and took a sip of tea.

In the aftermath of the battle Penny approached Flannery, whose face was brimming with smug satisfaction at her victory.

"Don't feel too bad about losing. It was me you were facing, after all," Flannery said, extending her hand for a shake.

Penny took it, at the same time letting her second pokeball roll out of her other hand behind her back. There was suddenly an Espeon peeking around her legs. Flannery halted, her gaze lowering and before she knew it she was lost in a purple tinted flash without a chance to even know what had happened.
