Chapter 15: Operation Kill The Bitch!

Sophia was humming with both power and glee. She was finally going to get her date, sure there was going to be a 'trap' set up by those assholes, but luckily she had a plan of her own, a nice little surprise in store for those little shits. As she rounded the corner to the restaurant however she felt something off. She extended her senses but couldn't pick up Alex or his little crew. Curious and a little confused she continued towards the restaurant, her mind now on high alert.

"Hey Sophia, over here." She was so lost in thought that she hadn't seen Alex waving to her from the patio area across the street.

She looked both ways and started to walk towards a nearby light. Using her telekinesis she hit the button to activate the crosswalk. Once she was across the street she quickly made her way over to La Inferno Cafe, where Alex was waiting. Sophia walked up to the door and was greatly pleased to see it leaning open. Looking around she saw only the bare minimum of staff present, other than that there was no one else, not even a single customer.

"Really now all of this just for me?" She asked as Alex made his way inside. He smirked as he took a chair out from behind a table.

"Only the best for our first date." He quipped as he loosened his tie. Sophia stumbled at those words.

"First?" She asked as he nodded.

"Yeah, thing's didn't quite work out with me and Loona, me being a Christian and all didn't really sit all that well with her." He smirked.

"Kinda hard to get close to someone when you inadvertently end up burning them." Sophia just giggled, meanwhile Alex cringed from all of his lying as she sat down and he pushed her chair in. His fake smile returned as he sat down in his own chair. One of the many butlers on loan from Stolas walked over with a menu in hand.

"Good evening Madam and Sir, what can I get for you tonight." Sophia gave the imp a weary look but Alex just smiled as he told Melvin his order.

"I'll have a Hell Fire BBQ Sandwich, a side of kiln fired fries, and to drink, I'll take a sparkling white wine." He passed the menu over to Sophia who gave it a once over and sighed.

"I'll have the number four, the Flame Broiled Pasta Dish with a side salad and to drink I'll have a half and half sweat and unsweat tea." She then levitated the menu over to the imp who grabbed it out of the air and scrambled to the kitchen in the back. As soon as he was out of sight Sophia fixed Alex with a soft smirk.

"So what have you been doing these past few weeks?" Alex simply frowned as he thought of the past few weeks, and how to sell his deception. Latching onto a memory of the time Blitz had eaten his last homemade lunch, he let a sour smile reach his lips.

"Well, things have been rather awkward at work." He thought about his cover story some more.

"But nothing too hectic thankfully." He let a genuine smile fill his features. Sophia had a sense that something was off but when she tried to read his thoughts she couldn't even make it to his surface level emotions, it was like hitting an impenetrable steel wall. She grunted in pain as she tried to get past his defense's but all's she received was a bloody nose. Alex noticed and acted fast.

"Oh my god, Sophia your nose!" He got up and went to her side with a napkin ready. This had her nervous now. All of the time she had spied on Alex and his colleagues the past few weeks they had been planning her death, this was so unlike anything she'd ever even heard of.

"What are you planning?" She asked as Alex whipped her nose. Alex gave her a puzzled look.

"What do you mean?" He asked, causing Sophia's eye to twitch.

"You know damn well what I'm talking about!" She shouted as her chair splintered into pieces. Alex just sighed as he sat back down.

"Would you believe me if I told you that I had convinced them to not kill you?" She gave him a slow blink.

"What?" She asked as Alex just nodded.

Meanwhile Across The Street.

Loona awoke feeling drowsy and confused. The last thing she remembered was-

"Alex!?" She shouted jumping to her feet, only to get tackled to the ground by the whole of I.M.P. Blitz clamped a hand around her muzzle.

"SHH!" He hissed as he pointed to a TV set up in front of them. Loona struggled for a little while but soon saw that the TV was a camera inside of the restaurant where Alex and Sophia were set up. Loona had stopped struggling but she still felt tears make their way down her face as her breathing quickened.

"Yeah, I managed to convince them to not kill you, and trust me it wasn't easy." Alex said as the waiter Melvin appeared with their drinks. Stolas strolled into the room and smiled as he saw the TV.

"Everything appears to be going according to plan." He looked at his phone and his grin broadened.

"Aw and our scouts appear to be on the trail of our little friends." He showed his screen to Blitz who smiled as he checked his watch.

"Right on time." He smiled.

"Have to admit, I didn't think that the kid's plan would work, but so far so good." The two men winced however as they heard Loona whine behind them. Stolas didn't have the power within him to look and so he kept his eyes glued to the screen. Blitz however did look back and wished that he hadn't. Loona was sitting there on the floor, she had to be sedated the first time she heard the real plan, and now she was still under the effects of the drug and struggling to get to her feet.

"Loona honey, please." Loona stopped her struggling and gave her father a tear filed look.

"Why?" She asked feeling helpless and sick.

"You know why." He went over and gave his daughter a hug.

"The second, the plan goes awry we will go in there and kill that bitch, but only if Alex fails." He gave his daughter a pat.

"Alex wants to make sure that this goes down without a hitch." He grabbed the cross around his neck but let it go after it began to heat up in his hand, the smirk on his face never wavering.

"Listen sweety, we won't let anything happen to him." He looked Loona in the eye and gave her a confident smile.

"You promise?" Loona asked as she slowly felt the drugs begin to fade. Blitz gave her a nod.

"Yes, Once those cherubs show up we'll let them and Sophia fight it out and in the meantime, we'll go and back up Alex." Loona gave her father a thumbs up, and then glanced towards Moxxie.

"By the way when these drugs whereof I'm going to kick your ass." Moxxie let out a chuckle as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Noted." He put a second syringe back in its case and shuffled off back to his wife. Loona smirked as she slowly got to her feet, using the nearby wall for support.

"Could one of you assholes come and help me get to the bathroom?" Millie raised a hand and went over to assist Loona.

"Thanks." Millie gave her a smirk.

"Don't worry about it." The two of them made their way to the restroom, Millie having to support Loona when she stumbled a few times. They got to the restroom and Millie was about to go in with Loona when she held up a hand.

"I'm high, not crippled." Millie gave out a chuckle.

"Please don't make-" Loona just growled silencing Millie's query. She then stumbled into the bathroom and closed the door. Slowly she slid down the door and sank to her knees, tears threatening to overwhelm her vision. She growled and shook her head.

"God I know Alex trust's you, and if he can then so can I." She smirked however as she felt more of her strength return.

"But I hope you don't mind me having a little insurance policy." She clenched her hand tight, slowly getting back to her feet, and looking at the nearby window with apprehension. Looking back towards the door, she hoped Millie and the others would forgive her.

"Here go's nothing." Opening the window Loona was greeted with cool spring air however a knock on the door gave her pause.

"Loona, you ok in there?" Millie listened for a response but not getting one she decided to check on her friend. Opening the door she saw that the restroom was empty. A frown came over her face, but it was soon replaced with a smirk.

"Go get your man."

Back At The Cafe.

Sophia had relaxed her guard and actually found herself having a good time. She laughed as Alex recounted the story of Moxxie trying to kill the hell boar.

"Honestly I think he would've had it given a few more seconds." His face fell a little thinking about this whole charade. However, remembering why and more importantly who he was doing this for filled him with the confidence to continue. He put on a genuine smile, and Sophia, unfortunately, thought it was for her sake.

"Whatcha thinkin about?" Alex got his mind back on task and smiled.

"Oh you know, Our next date." Sophia blushed profusely just thinking about it.

"Heh you know I've always wanted--" She stopped however when her precognition picked up an unidentified group heading their way. Her face went from cherry to rage, her eyes flushing with violet power.

"Are you expecting company?" She asked throwing up a sadistic smile. Alex gave her a look of confusion.

"Company?" He looked around the practically deserted restaurant.

"No w-" He was cut off when Sophia picked him up in her iron grip,

"Hmm so some of my powers do work on him, good." She smiled as Alex struggled out from her grasp. He gave her a look of pure sadness, fright, and anger.

"Damn it Sophia what are you talking about!?" He pulled out his revolver, and with the cross embedded in its grip and the power of his faith, Sophia's powers over him waned. She snarled as she tried to grab him in her telekinesis again, only for her power to wash over him like water and roll of his person.

"Damn you!" She snarled, her eye's tearing up.

"I knew this was too good to be true!" She shouted making Alex shake his head.

"That makes two of us then." He raised his gun and aimed it at her causing her to flinch and stop.

"A-a-are-are you really going to kill me?" Sophia was genuinely hurt but Alex stood firm, his face a mask of righteous anger and pain. Slowly he nodded.

"Only if you leave me no choice." He tried to give her yet another chance to back off. His own eyes began to tear up as the two of them stood there.

"Sophia, listen to me, please." She was too stunned to do much of anything else.

"All of this was a lie." He said as he held his gun on target.

"Tonight, this date, It was all on me." Sophia thought about all of this time.

"No, that's a lie, you wouldn't be that cruel." She snickered as tears rolled down her face, but the smile vanished when Alex stood resolute.

"No, it's not." He took a deep breath and continued. "I don't love you Sophia. I never have and at this rate, I never will." Sophia wanted so desperately to believe that this was all some cruel prank, but the conviction in his eyes said it all. Sophia cried out as she used her power to take hold of Alex, her anger just enough to break through his defenses, pushing him back a few feet instead.

"You see that right there is why I can never love you, Sophia!" He shouted holding his balance despite the force being used against him, a soft yellow glow enveloping his body. Sophia didn't want to hear it.

"Shut up!, Shut Up! SHUT UP!" She shouted sending out waves of force to try and batter him down, but Alex withstood them all his faith never faltering and so he as well. He just shook his head.

"Sophia, please, stop this." He begged as his eyes brimmed with tears.

"NOOOOOOO!" Alex stood there gun in hand, and he finally knew that his old friend was truly gone. He shook his head to clear the tears, his normally soft features now full of determination.

"Ok then, you leave me no choice," He raised his sights and lined up his shot.

"I hope you can finally find peace." Before he could pull the trigger however he was bulled over by a chair and sent into a nearby wall. He let out a groan as he quickly got back to his feet, looking around for a place to take cover. Spying the counter he dove over the marble top, firing a shot off at Sophia while doing so. It missed but had the desired effect of causing her to duck out of his line of fire.

"Where are your little friends huh?" Sophia taunted as she threw more furniture at the counter, Alex hunkering down as tables and chairs sailed over his head. He looked around for anything he could use and saw a fire extinguisher attached to the wall. He made a break for it and was lucky when a potted plant smashed into the wall beside him instead of into his head.

"You talk too much!" Alex said as he wrenched the extinguisher from the wall and hurled it at Sophia. She sidestepped it sending a chair his way, Alex however, had his gun trained on the extinguisher and shot a bullet at it as it passed. The explosion took out the table they were sitting at and showered Sophia and the immediate area in a blanket of cold white powder. She let out an angered roar and swept her gaze to where Alex was last, only to see he had disappeared.

"Go ahead and run cowered!" She however was blindsided by a crossbow bolt that hit her in the shoulder. Growling she ripped the offending object out of her arm the wound slowly healing up. She looked over to the entrance of the restaurant where three small figures hovered in the air.

"Oh goody, something new to play with!" Sophia snared as she began to to grab some stuff from the kitchen. The three cherubs however looked a little apprehensive to say the least.

"oh shit," Keenie said as Sophie sent a shower of knives, forks, spoons, and even a microwave their way.

"Scatter!" Cletus called out, the three of them took off in separate directions. Meanwhile deeper in the kitchen, Alex stumbled a little, gripping his side to keep his wound from leaking any more blood.

"Gr, shit that hurts." He took off his coat and growled as he wrapped it around his waist to apply more pressure to his wound. Gritting his teeth he said a quick prayer for some kind of help.

"ALEX!" That voice.

"Loona?" He asked and was instantly answered with the restaurant's back door getting blown off its hinges. There looking a little disheveled and furious was Loona, her arm trembling from rage and her eye's locking onto Alex and fixing him a soft glare.

"What are you-" He was cut off as Loona strolled over, grabbed his face, and kissed him.

"If you ever pull another stunt like this again I will put you in the hospital." Alex could feel the hurt in her voice, he just held her close.

"I-I'm sorry." He looked down ashamed of the emotional turmoil she must have gone through. Loona cupped his head and held his face close to hers.

"No time for that now, we have to get out of here, those fucking cherubs are here." She scanned the nearby alley but Alex stopped her.

"As bad this sounds we can't just leave them to fight her alone." Loona was shocked.

"And why not? Let them kill each other seems like a logical and less suicidal plan to me." Alex smirked.

"It is, but we need to make sure she's dead and gone." He cocked his revolver and holstered it. Loona just let out a groan as she held up one of Alex's weapons.

"You are so lucky I brought this along." Alex eyed the sword and took it as Loona grabbed her AT 500 and checked to see that it was full of five rounds of extreme penetration ammunition.

"This out to get through that bitch's thick ass skull." She smirked as Alex just let out a garbled chuckle. He coughed a little and tasted blood, but kept it to himself, they needed to complete the mission.

"Ok let go kill the bitch." He replied as he unsheathed his sword.

Back at the Apartment.

"Ok, gang let gets ready to roll!" Blitz shouted as the others all got their gear together and made their way out of the building. He glanced over to Millie but sighed as he shook his head, Millie giving him a soft smile as she went and gave him a shoulder check.

"Don't worry she'll be fine." She reached up to the cross around her neck and smiled. Moxxie had grabbed his rifle and set up his overwatch on the apartment's balcony. Blitz meanwhile pulled out his flintlock and gave it one final check up.

"Ok, Millie you need to go and get the van started and ready for a quick evacuation," He then looked over at Stolas.

"Can you keep the cops off our asses?" Stolas nodded.

"The only one who gets your ass is me Blitzy, so of course." Stolas then worked his magic and erected a dome over the entire restaurant and then some, covering Moxxie and his section of the apartment building as well as the alleyway behind the eating establishment.

"There that should give us all the time we need." Blitz just nodded and took off across the street after his daughter and future son in law.

"Good Luck Blitz." Stolas said as he briskly walked around the alley to the back of the restaurant.

Alex and Loona made their way towards the fighting, the sound of silverware and damaged electronics punctuated by the heavy twang of heavenly cords letting loose bolt after bolt. The two of them snuck up to the counter that had several chunks blasted out of it, some holes clearly made by crossbow bolts other's by messily silverware being thrown at high speeds. They cautiously peeked over the counter and saw that Sophia was riddled with wounds, but she was still fighting off the three cherubs who now looked like they were down to two, one of them laying on the ground a few feet away not moving. Alex looked over to Loona.

"Ready?" He asked, Loona nodded.

"Always." She cocked her revolver's hammer. Together the two let out a battle cry, a holy aura flaring to life around them both as they jumped over the counter and took aim at Sophia. So focused was she on the cherubs that Sophia didn't have time to react to their blitzkrieg maneuver. She lurched as she was struck with a blessing infused 45 round and a hell powered 500 magnum, the little heavenly energy left in the bullet being just enough to blast her arm off.

"YOU STUPID BITCH!" She shouted, her violet eyes turning a deep black. Loona's own turned a blood red as she continued to fire round after round at Sophia, blasting off a new piece of her body with every hit. Keenie and Colins both took the time to look at each other before nodding and unloading their bolts into Sophia as well.

"I'll KILL ALL OF YOU!" She raged as Alex emptied his 45 into her chest. Holstering his gun he took his sword in both hands and closed into melee range. Sophia had used her magic to reattach her lost limb but instead of it keeping its human shape she had instead turned it into a whip like appendage and flung it about with abandon. Alex managed to parry most of the flails sent his way creating an opening that he took full advantage of driving his sword into her body. She screamed in agony as the holy power coursing through his blade entered her corrupted form causing her to back off and flail her tentacle around. She managed to catch Loona in the chest and sent her flying into a table.

"Loona!" Alex yelled as he fought off another barrage of tentacle swipes. Loona however was unfazed by her abrupt meeting with a piece of carpentry and threw herself into the fray once more. Having counted her shots she knew she had only two more left until she had to reload, so she stoad her gun and decide to use her claws, wreathing them in hellfire.

"Bring it on bitch!" She challenged as Colin's and Keenie continued to pepper Sophia with bolts. Getting a little tired of the cherub's constant prodding she used her telekinesis to pick up a nearby table and hurl it at the two cherubs catching them both mid reload. They braced themselves for impact but a yell caught their attention. They looked through blurry vision to see that Alex had gotten between them and the table slicing it in half causing the resulting two pieces to fly around them. Alex was now blazing like a holy sun as he took up a defensive stance in front of the cherubs, holding his sword perpendicular to the ground, its lethal point aimed squarely at Sophia's heart.

Alex charged at the monster that was once his best friend and jabbed at her barely human looking mass, while Loona clawed at her back, getting on all fours to make herself a smaller target, nimbly dodging out of the way of her retaliatory swipes. Together the two of them began to whittle Sophia down. She began to fall back on using more of her telekinesis to hurl objects at the two. The report of a rifle came to their ears as Moxxie let off a round from across the street giving them a small window of opportunity and they took it. Keenie looked from behind her cover to see Blitz charging into the battle now as well.

"Get away from my daughter, you bitch!" He shouted as he brought up his flintlock and fired it into the dark miasma that Sophia's form was now becoming. Alex and Loona backed off to catch their breath as the dark cloud before them began to pull in random objects, wood, forks, knives, appliances. Alex let out a scream as he felt something bury itself into his back. Reaching around he felt that it was a chief's knife. He shook off the pain and focused on the hear and now taking cover in front of the counter and reloading his gun, Loona doing the same as another rifle shot echoed from Moxxies location. When the air settled down they both looked over the counter to see a thing resembling a human being but this being was covered head to toe in armor plating having been forged from the very material of the kitchen itself.

"DIE!" Sophia screamed as she used her remaining technomancy to create projectiles from the very electronic equipment around her. Taking aim she fired off spear after spear at her foes. Alex grabbed a nearby intact table and flipped it over, using it as cover while pushing it forward, Blitz and Loona standing up to take shot's at Sophia who was pushed back with each round that impacted her armored form, the 500 rounds punching through her thick armor plates like tissue, while Moxxie was now laying into her with a staccato of rifle fire. Unfortunately, Sophia ended up running out of things to fuse together and throw at her adversaries, that when Keenie and Collins decide to rejoin the fight, once more peppering her with arrow's aiming for what looked like weak spots in her armor most than likely blasted off by the 500 rounds.

"No!" She wailed as she continued to retreat. Slowly her eye's began to shift from black back to violet, she could feel her power's beginning to fade. Frantically Sophia looked for an exit and saw the back door using the last of her strength she began to take out the support beams of the building.

"If I'm going to die, I'm taking you with me!" She shouted as the building and the ground began to shake. Alex, Loona, and Blitz began to stumble, while the cherubs tried to go and grab Cletus. Blitz had noticed and rolled his eyes.

"You three get the fuck out of here!" He shouted at them, They stopped only briefly to give Blitz a nod, before they scooped up their fallen comrade and fled out the front door, Stolas having heard Blitz's command allowing the Cherubs to fly through the barrier and into the night. Alex and Loona meanwhile continued to take shots at Sophia who had once more erected a barrier around herself. Blitz stumbled over and grabbed them both.

"Come on let's get out of here!" He ordered and as much as they didn't want to the two members of I.M.P. obeyed their boss. Sophia saw them try to leave and locked her sights on Loona. The three stumbled to get out with Blitz leading the way, using his tail to help pull Loona long and her using her own to aid Alex.

"You Bitch!" She shouted as the strain of overusing her powers finally caught up with her, her body slowly beginning to disintegrate. Alex looked back and saw to his horror what she had planned on doing. She formed one last spear and hurled it with all of her might at her target. In that split second, Alex made one last choice. Using all of his willpower and strength, he rushed forward pushing Loona and Blitz out of the way of the fatal shot and into the street. Loona and Blitz lay there as the rumbling of the collapsing building continued and finally ceased. Loona and Blitz opened their eyes to see the starry blue sky of earth above them, Loona let out a soft chuckle as tears came to her eyes.

"Hell yeah! Take that bitch!" Blitz shouted as he too looked up at the sky. Moxxie had felt the rumbling and taken that as his queue to get out of the building. Millie put the van into gear and sped out from behind the apartment complex and came to a stop in the street where her friends were. As she got out of the vehicle however her face went pale.

"Alex!" She shouted as Loona and Blitz looked over to where he was. Loona's heart nearly stopped as she saw him lying there unresponsive. Her tears soon turned from ones of joy to ones of concern.

"NO!" she scrambled over to him only to hear his breathing was shallow. Moxxie made it to the group and his face went white as he too noticed his friend not moving.

"Alex?" he asked as Loona gently rolled him over to see that he was indeed still alive but just bearly, a ten inch spike sticking through his chest, as a pool of blood slowly began to form around him.

"Alex! Alex!" Loona's voice shook him awake and as Alex looked around he began to feel the cold embrace of death seep its way into his bones. He let out a wheezy breath as he looked around.

"d-d-did we do it?" He asked eyeing Blitz who nodded, as tears rolled down his face.

"Yeah, kid we did." He took ahold of Alex's hand as Loona sat there trying to hold her tears in.

"Good," Alex rested his had on Loona's lap as she stroked his arm, she noticed his eyelids getting droopy and gently shook him.

"Hey come on don't go to sleep, ok? Stay awake." Her blurry vision made it nearly impossible to see but she just raised her had and shouted, "Stolas!" the demon prince had made his way over and held a hand to his mouth in shock.

"Oh, no." He briskly ran over to the group as Loona took off her own jacket and used it to apply pressure to Alex's wound.

"Come on, Alex, stay with me." She said as she gazed up at Stolas.

"Don't just stand there! Can't you open a portal to a hospital or something?!" Her shouts got to Stolas who nodded.

"Hold on everyone." A second later the group was outside of the nearest hospital, Loona clutching Alex to herself as they all ran up to the buildings doors. Luckily no one was in the way when Loona kicked the automatic doors off their tracks.

"I need a doctor now!" she shouted as the front desk nurse took cover from the glass and metal shards flying throughout the front lobby. Loona grew impatient as no one immediately reacted to help and stomped over to the front desk.

"Is someone going to come help us or not!?" She yelled down the hall catching the attention of a few medical staff. One doctor came running after hearing gall of the commotion and stopped dead when he saw Alex being held by a wolf like creature ans surrounded by several small devil looking individuals. Stolas took charge and used his magic to change into his human form.

"Doctor are you going to save this young mans life or are you going to stare at my associates all day?" He questioned, causing the doctor to give him a look of horror.

"I'm sorry Sr Rosenberg." The doctor bowed and then quickly lead Loona and the others so an emergency room down the hall.

Several Hours later.

Loona was sitting outside of the operating room where Alex was being worked on, her ears flat, tail limp, and her face red and puffy from all of the tears she'd shed up till that point. Hearing the door to his room shutter her ears shot up as the doctor walked out. For a brief moment she felt the smile return to her muzzle, but it soon fell as she saw the look of defeat on the doctor's face. He simply looked at all of I.M.P. and shook his head. Loona couldn't believe it. She didn't believe it.

"No." She shook her head as she stormed towards the door and opened it. The doctors still present were wrapping up their equipment as Loona stalked towards them.

"What are you doing!?" She shouted causing some of hem to flinch, and others to look down. One of the nurses present took a step towards her and held up their hands.

"Mam we've done all that we can." Loona growled as she took a step forward.

"Like hell you have!?" she snapped as she tried to get to Alex but was stopped by Stolas who took a hold of her shoulder, he shook his head causing Loona to tear up once more.

"NO!" Your wrong!" she shouted as she tried once more to get to Alex.

"Alex!" She shouted as Moxxie came over with a syringe.

"Alex!" She began to kick and fight as Stolas used all of his strength to hold her down.

"ALEX!" She screamed once more as Moxxie got the needle into her veins. It wasn't instantaneous and it wasn't pretty having to hear Loona moan in pain as she sat there outside of Alex's room while the drugs slowly took effect. The doctor from before came up to Stolas and gave a sigh.

"Do we have the number of the next of kin?" They all let out a flinch as Loona let out a whine, curling further up into her ball.

"I do." Blitz said as he took out a piece of paper and wrote it down. The doctor thanked him and took the number to his office.

Loona slowly began to drift off to sleep once more, her heart shattered as tears continued to stream down her face.

"Alex, please, please don't leave me, you promised..." Slowly Loona felt sleep take her.
