Evening blanketed the Alola region as the sun set above. Brooke was currently on her way to her boyfriend's house who she'd been with for a year now. She straightened her shoulder-length black hair, threw on a white parka over a long-sleeved gray shirt complementing her slim figure, and headed out her front door. He lived a few blocks down, and Brooke was glad they lived close. Malie was a quaint, coastal area within Alola. Its dark green residential structures and shops were built in proximity to each other, and surrounding the city's outskirts were grassy mountains and trees. Brooke strolled its stone walkways under cool weather and stuffed her hands into her pockets. Above was a gray and cloudy sky.

It didn't take long to reach his residence. Brooke stood at his door and knocked, waiting several minutes before he answered. Her lover looked half asleep. "Parker, you fell asleep?" Brooke rolled her eyes and watched him fix his short brown hair.

"Uh... Yeah, sorry, hun. I had to work later than usual last night. Come in though." Parker grinned at her sass, eyeing her face down to the small diamond piercing on her nose. He stepped aside and let Brooke enter.

"It's fine." She went to sit on his red couch. This was the nineteen-year-old's first genuine relationship, and it had gone well so far. She and Parker were the same age, or else Brooke's parents would have flipped out.

"Want water?" Parker asked, and Brooke nodded while smiling up at him.

Once he left the living room and went to the kitchen nearby, Brooke watched two of his pokémon enter. She'd met and held his cute torracat before, but Brooke saw one enter behind him she never once laid eyes on. She studied its body, stance, and overall rough demeanor. "Jeez, I didn't know you had a lycan." Brooke took the cup of water Parker handed to her while not taking her eyes off the midnight lycanroc.

"His name's Vix. I've had him for about a week... I often keep him inside his great ball since he doesn't like listening to me." Parker stood next to her and shrugged.

"I can see why. He looks like he'll rip your throat out if you irritate him," she giggled and thought of going to greet Vix but pinned her words onto herself. That pokémon creeped her out.

"I have to find out how to train him." Parker stared at the noncompliant pokémon standing dominantly on its hind legs and staring back up at him as if challenging his trainer.

Brooke planned to spend the night at Parker's house but wasn't expecting him to fall asleep beside her within the same hour, even though he told her he had a long day. Brooke got up from the couch and turned off the TV in front of them on a glass table, then went and set her empty cup on the kitchen counter. "Might as well leave..." Brooke mumbled to herself.

She was startled by Parker's lycanroc as she turned around to exit the dark kitchen, its eyes glowing a bright red in such dim lighting. "Oh... Hi, Vix." Brooke looked down at him from where she stood at a distance. Although she felt somewhat uneasy being in his radiating presence, she again had a slight urge to touch him. He was gazing up at her, but it wasn't in a challenging manner as it had been with Parker about an hour ago. Brooke felt as if she were frozen in place by Vix's commanding stature. She left Parker's house after he let up.

Brooke thought about how odd the incident with Vix was while on her walk home and even while she rested in bed that night. She wasn't sure whether she'd tell Parker about it tomorrow. It wasn't that serious.
