#3 of Secret Santa

My Secret Santa gift for Bleodafi forKikatsu's Secret Santa 2020 event. I've written stories in the past for Bleo, so I knew his tastes pretty well. That's why this year I wanted to make a story about something a little less known about for his stuff, and made a story about his DJ other-self. Hope you enjoy!

"That DJ really rounds out the party." "They say his mixes can mix up your body too." "I can feel those drops hitting inside me."

Comments like those were frequent when talking about the mysterious DJ known only by the handle Bl3o. Nobody really knows where he came from, nor how he works his magic, but his sets always seem to leave a lasting impression on those who are able to view them. While any DJ can bring life to the party with good mixing skills and an understanding of the music scene at the time, Bl3o was known to create an aura that was unlike anything else. Literally. No other sets come close to his, if only for the fact of rumors that spread about just what the shows are like, painting a different picture than others on the scene. Maybe it's the semi-demonic getup he wears, but something about his shows leave people talking.

It's all that talking that led a certain raccoon to be interested in the request of his fox friend to come to one of the upcoming sets. "Come on, you'll love it!" The fox practically pleaded with his raccoon companion. The racc wasn't much a fan of EDM himself, but he always liked the idea of people remixing popular tracks to make new art. After much pestering from his canine friend, the ringtail agreed to join for a Friday set.

When the duo got to the venue, it was expectedly packed full. Not a good spot to park for at least a quarter mile, and people wrapped around the side of the large building. Luckily, the fox seemed to have accounted for this, grinning wide to his racc friend as he handed over specialty tickets, finding they could get through the line much quicker with this little extra expense. He'd have to ask later what kind of fortune the fox had to pay for these, but for now the raccoon followed his friend into the venue.

What struck the raccoon as a little odd was just how wide open the inside was. "It's a lot bigger on the inside" was quite a relevant reference to make for this scenario. An assortment of posters displaying various artists were hung around the main stage, with a large screen towards the very back displaying a count-down timer till the start of the show. A good number of other furs had found their way into here as well, conversing in the low-lit setting as casual music played in the background.

"How's everything so far?" The fox asked with gingerly, guiding his friend as they looked for a good spot to stand.

The ringtail chuckled. "I think I'll have to save my thoughts for the show."

"That you will." The canine agreed with pride. "Trust me, you won't regret coming here."

The raccoon wasn't quite sure what was to be in store, but with the timer on-screen indicating the beginning to be soon, he confidently prepared himself for the show ahead. After finding a secure place to stay, the two of them stood by as the other furs continued to pour in. It certainly seemed like a lot of people where here for the show, and the raccoon was further curious because of this to just what lay in store.

Finally, as the last of the venue guests filed into place, the timer reached its final minute. Energy seemed to surge in that moment, a sudden excitement building. This was it, everything was about to start. The raccoon received another smile from his fox friend as the two prepared. And then, everything went dark.

With cheers, a handful of lights pointed towards the main stage, slowly panning back and forth in order to show what all lay there for further anticipation. A low drone could be heard, one that sounded like a growing pulse that pressed through the venue. With every surge of bassy saw waves, the screen rippled outwards with red light; as it built, the waves grew in speed and volume, until suddenly the entire screen was covered in a deep crimson red.

B L 3 O

Suddenly, a figure rose from the center of the stage, mostly obscured by darkness. The crowd cheered even more, some chanting the name that now appeared on screen. They were quite a tall figure, looking somewhat draconic in form, save for the fur, enormous tail, and other opposing aspects to them. The screen returned to a similar blank red as before, right as the face of the figure lit up with that same color, revealing a mask that mixed between a gas-mask and scarecrow face.

Then, BOOM. The first pulse. The raccoon felt that one through him. A deep pulse of bass that practically shook the whole building. Then the next came, eliciting the same response, as did the following.

Then a rhythm began, one that still shocked the raccoon, but was oddly interesting at the same time. The fox, however, seemed to be loving this start, cheering along with the crowd as the figure began to work with the table before them. Through the pulsing bass that felt like it could break rocks, a noticeable song played throughout, the ringtail a bit surprised at how well the melody mixed. He couldn't help but enjoy the remixed song playing.

It was after the first few minutes that the raccoon began to notice something about the way the music played. Maybe it was the bouncing bass or the heavy drums that threw off one or more of his senses, but he could swear that something had changed about what he was seeing. While the display screen had definitely changed to match the music of the set, that's not what got his attention.

Rather, it felt like something about him had shifted. He rose his hands, noting how his body seemed to shake with each pulse of the song's low tones. No, wait, HE was pulsing. Something about his body was pulsing.

He looked over to his side, trying to figure out what was going on, when he noticed his fox friendhad seemingly changed in a similar way. To him, it looked like they had grown slightly, only to shrink back into place by the next beat in this continuous pattern. However, the fox didn't even seem to notice, still jamming along to the song.

As the minutes passed, with the next song or two to come and go, the changes only seemed to persist. Each and every drop that matched the crazy, shifting BPM seemed to equally shift the raccoon. One second they found themselves suddenly growing from the middle, the next their paws seemed to turn into something more tendril-like, before then their head literally spun.

These remixes were doing something crazy to him, making his whole world feel completely different than what he knew. And yet, for some reason, it was oddly amazing. A wave of different emotions seemed to surge with each noticeable change, and while seemingly random at first they eventually followed into a pattern that seemed to make almost too much sense. Everything just kept becoming stranger and stranger with every second that pas-

BANG

Suddenly, like that, everything stopped. It took a second for the raccoon to come back to reality, but as the lack of shaking relaxed his body and the return of the low light adjusted his view, he came to realize that the end of the set just happened. To his surprise, the figure on stage was nowhere to be found.

"So," the fox suddenly spoke up, catching the raccoon off guard, "what'd you think?"

The ringtail laughed nervously, rubbing at the back of their head. "I uh... wasn't expecting THAT to happen."

"TOLD you it'd be fun." The fox prodded his friend, startling him a bit.

The raccoon laughed more, adjusting himself as he still tried to register that everything was over. Whatever just happened, it was unlike anything he expected. In fact, it was unlike anything he could have ever imagined. To the raccoon, music was certainly art in the hands of the right people; but a show like this was beyond anything that could be called just "art." There was something to this kind of set that was an experience unlike any other.

Perhaps, the raccoon would be another to add to the countless rumors of the illusive Bl3o.
