Awakening

"Her eyes may never heal." A woman's voice echoed in the young girls ears. The words repeated in her mind. They confused her. Inhaling a breathe of courage and settled her fears, she forcefully opened her eyes. The out come was not what was expected.

She had always heard of stories of blind walkers, and imagined them blindly walking into things because of the lack of sight. Yet this caused a new outlook on blindness. The ceiling she looked upon was a dark flat hue of a lifeless color. Huge darker hues of blobs swayed lightly on top of its surface. There was no black and white, but there was also no colors either. Where the blind could not see, she logically slightly could. So was she really blind?

"Is there anything more you can do for the young one, priestess?" A familiar voice asked, but the man spoke to quiet with concern to make out who it was. She lifted her head in hopes to see something, but was reminded about her sight. At the end of her bed was two huge figures of smothered hues.

"I've done all I can. With all the furies of our world, we haven't anything on her species. I don't know what else to do for her." disappointment filled the woman's voice when she answered. Silence soon followed. Beginning to feel a kink in her neck, the drakling when to sit up. She groaned as she sat up, which caught the man and woman's attention. Her body ached all over.

"You should take it easy, young one." The man spoke as he rushed over to her. She watched his rectangular colorless figure come over to her left as the woman stood at her right at the foot of the bed. The girl felt the mans hand on her shoulder and gently pushed her back down on the mattress. She looked up at the man. His face was just a blur. She couldn't make out anything.

"Alright, but who are you? And where am I?" She asked, keeping the fear from lack of sight under control.

"I'm Brakin. Do you remember who I am?" He asked. She could pick up a sense of concern. He smelled of it.

"Yes, you're the captain my master knew. You were to bring me across the sea, and into your world." She nodded and spoke in remembrance. The captain sighed with relief.

"At least she has not lost her memories like she has her ability to see." The priestess commented. The drakling seemed somewhat offended

"No, I haven't lost my sight. My vision is just different and very strange." The drakling stated defensively.

"I meant no offense, dear child." The woman spoke softly. "Many who walk in her with eyes that are damaged that can not see." The woman sat softly at the end of the bed.

"What do you mean that you can see but your vision is strange?" Brakin asked with concern but filled mostly with eagerness.

"I... I don't... I don't know how to actually explain it." The girl finally answered.

"Can you see colors?" The priestess asked.

"No." The drakling stated.

"Than do you see in black and white."

"No, I would say not, because logically black and white are still colors. They have a sort of life in them. These colors, if you wish to call them that, have no life to them. Its as if they have been drained of it. And I don't see things clearly either. They are smothered features of blobs. Its hard to make things out. Its as if something just smeared the picture of my sight." The drakling finished staring into one particular area. Silence once again fell over the room as the what she just told them settled in. Brakin finally sighed.

"Though your sight is a puzzling matter, at least your fine." Brakin brushed her hair aside. "Now you must rest. That storm did on number on us."

"Yes, sleep would be best." said the priestess as the drakling felt her stand up. The girl nodded, and curled back underneath the covers. The door closed and her vision began to fade.
