Chapter 6 - Darkness Rising

Location: Everonth Excavation Site

The ship jolted again, it felt as if a herd of elephants were pounding the side of the vessel and that the ground beneath them was caving in. Forget that, it felt like the WHOLE mountain was collapsing.

"Hmph..." fumbled Diamond as he fell against the console, using his small white hand to pull himself back up and stop him from falling over completely. Lance was completely thrown from one side of the room to the other it seemed, he quickly grabbed one of the consoles while the Kestra projection flickered due to damage.

This quake was not just being felt inside the ship but also all over the shelf that held the excavation camp, pieces of the rock began falling away to the forest below, tents and people going with them as they collapsed.

"W-wh-what is going on!?" shouted Diamond who managed to pick himself on the floor and ride the quakes to keep himself standing. It was tricky though, like trying to walk across a bouncy castle.

The Kestra hologram flickered as it tried to speak, after a few jumbled words, it finally began to speak coherently against the powerful quakes the rocked the ship. "Internal sensors have detected imperfections in the planets crust. Evacuate immediately."

Debris and metal began to fall heavily from the ceiling as the ship began to collapse, leaving Diamond and Lance covering their heads in protection. Diamond wondered how much metal could possibly be above them to make it fall down so rapidly.

One of the pillars on the bridge gave way in front of Diamond with Lance only quickly lifting his head to see it. The pillar was large and black, charred metal, one of the structural pillars that held the bridge of the ship together.

"LOOK OUT!" he shouted, raising a paw towards Diamond, almost like he was expecting and invisible force come out of his hand and push the pillar out the way.

No such luck.

Diamond was struck straight over the head by the cold, dark metal and collapsed forward as the pillar locked him in place. He collapsed on the floor next to the Kestra projection that was fluctuating widely and eventually disappeared as the already damage console shorted out with a flare of sparks.

At this moment, Lance was left alone in the collapsing room. He suddenly felt very scared and pictured his own death, buried in the metal without a single person to console him. But he had no way to escape, the door that they had entered through had collapsed and if he looked out the hull breach at the front of the ship, it was easily a two hundred foot drop.

This was his own personal hell, his doom.

* * *

At the bottom of Mount Everonth, people were scrambling to get away before the shelf which the excavation site was on collapsed on top of them. Pieces of rock and metal fell straight down into the forest below, crushing anyone unfortunately to get beneath them.

"This is Agent Giles to headquarters, we need instant back up now!" shouted Giles down his radio which he reattached to his belt. He was bewildered by the events that were happening, somehow the mountain was collapsing in an area that had hardly no seismic activity and was not near a fault line.

Giles was attempting to keep everyone calmly evacuate the mountain however it was an impossible task as cars and people alike came screaming down the mountain out to the forest and safety. Giles had drawn his beautiful black polished handgun and kept it in one hand while he directed the traffic with the other hand.

The forest was quickly filled with fumes of transports attempting to escape and pelting down the mountain at full speed.

Giles looked up at the shelf, it was high up in the sky but could easily fall on top of him at any moment, there was no way that he was going to outrun it. However his duty came first.

The floor around him began to crack as another quake, bigger then the ones that he previously felt seemed to ripple the land around him, causing the emerald green trees to collapse and fall to the ground.

Giles was quick enough to dive out of the way when the unthinkable happened. Suddenly a massive worm smashed its way from the ground up into the glorious glow of the sunlight. People screamed as cars skidded to avoid the arisen worm.

The sight of it was awe-inspiring, almost twenty stories high, this worm was larger then any natural creature that Terra had. It had massive black scales that put it more in common with a snake rather then a worm, however its sleek cylindrical body and huge gaping mouth with nothing but three circles of teeth inside it was astronomical.

Giles pulled himself to his feet in the presence of this colossal beast. Nothing in his job could have ever prepared him for what now stood, in all its glory before him. The worm turned, pulling its vast tail out of the ground and impaling a truck straight through and killing the people inside.

Some people attempted to get out their clothes and ran into the forest however the worm appeared to ripple, sending out thousands of black spear-like spikes from under its scale, each as deadly on their own but the powerful neurological toxin ensured death to anyone that touched them.

Many of the fleeing people, all different species fell to floor upon being impaled by these spikes, which were the size of javelins and travelled twice as fast. Giles felt like he was the only one with the sense to roll behind a large rock which was conveniently placed next to him.

Nobody stood a chance against that.

After the barrage of spikes was over and the worm roared with a high-pitched powerful vigour, Giles rolled out from behind the rock, cock his gun and began to try shooting the worm. He knew that his small bullets did not stand a chance of penetrating a being of that size, however he had to lead it away from the fleeing teams.

"Hey!" he shouted in a voice, his tail raised as he readied himself for battle. He felt like he was committing an impossible mission, giving selflessly to others. He liked that. "Come and get it you little fucker!" he shouted in a voice which was uncharacteristically him as he chucked his sun-glasses away to reveal hazel brown eyes.

The worm became enraged as the scientist and personnel fled from the Valkyrie with panicked screams of Terra. The worm opened its mouth to reveal hundreds of rows of razor sharp teeth however Giles stared it down. He had to buy enough time for everybody to get away, he was ready, it was his duty as an Agent to protect his company and put his life on the line.

"Brave one... your wish for death has been granted!" commanded a powerful female voice as the worm snarled and a blue light started to appear inside his huge mouth. Giles unloaded his entire clip into the worm and then just stood there waiting... for death.

"Marleen" he said to himself. "Please grow up strong and know that Daddy loves you."

The worm succeeded and the Valkyrie snapped into two, causing one side of this massive vessel to go tumbling down the mountain and off a sheer cliff with Diamond and Lance chucked about inside. The worm roared and finished charging its beam as it shot into Giles, the beam completely covering him and felt like a massive searing force was being pushed against him causing his fur and skin to begin to melt. The pain was astronomical however Giles stood his ground, determined not to die on his knees or lying down. His skin gone and his head boiled to the point where it had exploded, he collapsed dead with only a gold-plated locket and a half-burned picture of his wife and daughter.

The worm then turned itself round, burrowing itself back into the ground and smashing its tail down against the ground that caused the shelf above to collapse. The Valkyrie began to break apart, the entire ship destabilising and smashing apart. The bridge section of the ship snapped off and fell down into the forest with both Lance and Diamond inside, helpless to stop it.

This was just a bad day...

Location: Eastvale Village

Freya wondered into the house carrying a few basics of bread and milk into the house. Outside it was raining heavily in the middle of Eastvale. She smiled at Eclypse who was sat down watching the local television who immediately got up to help her with the shopping.

"Did you have a good trip?" said Eclypse smiling at her. Freya just turned her muzzle into a deep frown. "Shall I take that as a "No" then?"

Freya put the shopping on the kitchen counter and then proceeded to the living room in order to sit down. She sat there, breathing heavily for a few seconds before turning to look at Eclypse who brought her a hot cup of tea.

"Thanks" she said smiling and taking the cup of tea into her small and delicate hands.

"Well... it would have been nicer if there had not been a torrential downpour when I was walking along the main street. I had to run all the way back here. I am soaked."

She gently lifted her arms and took off her tops, revealing her bra which instantly made

Eclypse blush and look away from her. "Oh come on, Eclypse... it's not like you've never seen breasts before?"

Eclypse gulped and put his large, worm-like tail onto his lap and stroked it gently. "Um... no... I just... get nervous around woman... especially beautiful ones."

Freya looked slightly shocked that Eclypse had come out and said that, she had known for some time that Eclypse had feelings for her ever since she had found him and nursed him back to health. "Oh Eclypse" said Freya sounding delighted. "That is the sweetest..."

Freya was interrupted from a special report newscast on the television which she immediately turned her attention to as two medium built male foxes sat at a desk filled the screen.

"Good Morning" said the presenter on the left and smiled into the camera. "This is an TerraComm special report. There was panic today as what could only be described as an earthquake hit New Chentrilla City Island and the nearby Everonth Mountains. Chentrilla City was barely affected by the tremors and nobody was injured however the nearby Everonth Mountain Dig Site was completely destroyed with the death of nearly 20 people including Phoenix Grace's longest serving operative Agent Steven Giles. Survivors of the incident claimed that the site was attack by a giant worm however psychologists believe that it is more likely that these people have been traumatised."

Freya stared, transfixed at the screen, she suddenly felt cold and began to see terrifying visions of destruction through the television set that seemed to shatter in front of her, causing the room around her to shatter leaving her in a pitch black room, surrounded by nothingness.

"Come back..." she heard a female voice call to her.

"Who are you?" she said absolutely terrified and a woman appeared in front of her. She was human but wore a fantastically lovely red and white dress that complimented her slim figure. The woman had marking on her face which appeared like jagged lines down both side of her face, her hair was a beautiful shade of silver and her wings that extended out from her back were pitch black.

"I am you..." said the woman cryptically, her voice ripping straight through Freya into her soul. "And you are me... Goddess Freyja."

"Goddess?" said Freya confused however the woman did not answer, instead she pushed her hands together creating a ball of glowing black light between them and pushed it into Freya. "You are too much... You are a threat" said the woman. "So you will be mine now before you awaken."

Freya felt all the life drain out of her into the cold abyss as she collapsed in front of the woman.

"FREYA!" shouted a familiar voice as she woke from her vision and got up quickly to see Eclypse's long face peering down at her, trying to wake her. Freya sat up and looked around, everything felt different somehow and she tried to remember the woman that she had just seen but she could not.

"We need to go the Everonth Mountains Eclypse and find Kestra" she said looking up at Eclypse. Eclypse looked down at her, completely confused and inside Freya's mind Freya thought. "WHAT AM I SAYING? I HAVE NO CONTROL!" Freya felt her body and felt all the sensations but she could not control what her body was doing, she felt powerless. Trapped within herself.

"Why? And who is Kestra? And what is going on?" said Eclypse who was hopelessly confused. The real Freya, trapped inside her own mind watched helpless as somebody controlled her arm to put it her hand Eclypse's hand. She smiled and spoke.

"Trust me... I will explain on the way."
