Tobías really is a lucky cat - Mark, his boyfriend, is trying to hypnotize him just because he knows he'd love that. However, the goodhearted shark isn't the best hypnotist around. He makes for a good subject, though!

A cute, romance-oriented story I wrote! Sweet stuff happens. I hope you guys like it!

"Is this how I'm supposed to hold it? I don't think it should be doing that."

Mark frowned as he tried to keep the pocketwatch from spinning around. The shark had seen other people do it hundreds of times in TV shows and comics, but he'd never thought it'd be so difficult just to make something swing. No matter how hard he tried, the pocketwatch kept moving chaotically, the silver chain twisting and making it twirl like a spinning top that was still attached to its piece of rope.

The situation should have made him feel embarrassed, but instead it was simply frustrating. Mark's boyfriend, a notably smaller black cat, was staring at him in amusement with a paw on his hips.

"It's okay if you don't get it at first," he said, trying to downplay it. "It's not something everyone knows how to do."

"But I want to do it for you!" the shark replied, groaning. The pocketwatch was moving in every single way but a wide arc now. He let out a grunt and stopped it with a hand. "I even watched a video yesterday. A whole video, Tob!"

That wasn't entirely true.

Mark had begun watching a video the day before. It was supposed to teach him how to hypnotize someone and it had a one hundred percent chance of success, the person from the video had assured. The shark, trusting that'd be everything he'd need to finally fulfill his boyfriend's torrid fantasies, had clicked the play button and listened carefully to every instruction. Unfortunately, he'd fallen asleep in the middle of the video and had forgotten most of what the so-called hypnotist had said.

Besides, there had been no pocketwatches in the video, so that wasn't helping in his current situation.

"I think this might be more important for you than it is for me," the cat said then, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, it is. I just want to do something you like," the shark explained, his shoulders sinking a bit as he looked down. "I know you'd love this. And I want to make you happy. Why can't I do something as simple as swinging a pocketwatch? I'm useless."

"It sounds simpler than it is. You're not useless, silly fish," Tobías reassured him.

Mark grunted, as he always did whenever the cat called him that way. Chuckling, Tobías moved closer to his boyfriend, who was sitting on the other edge of the couch, and placed a small paw on his shoulder. The shark's skin was rough to the touch as the cat stroked tenderly.

The shark looked slightly less afflicted, but his gaze didn't rise from the floor. Tobías' eyes then moved to the pocketwatch and his smile got a bit wider.

"I guess I could try to show you how to do it," he offered.

"You? No way. You're the one who likes being hypnotized, wouldn't it be a bit disappointing if you had to tell me how it's done beforehand?"

"I agree that guiding you doesn't sit well with the idea of the controlling, overconfident hypnotist I have in mind," Tobías admitted, "but we don't need to get there yet, do we? We can go step by step. And please, take it easy. Just because you can't hypnotize me on your first attempt doesn't mean it's the end of the world. I like you a lot and whether you hypnotize me or not can't change that."

Mark looked like he was about to complain, but the weight of his boyfriend's compliment seemed to change his mind at the very last second. He let out a soft sigh and smiled sheepishly.

"I like you a lot too," he mumbled.

"Good. Now, let me see from up close how you're holding that pocketwatch. Your hands should do a better job than my paws, you know? Start swinging it."

"Like this?" Mark still looked a bit embarrassed, but did as he was told anyway.

"Ooookay." Tobías squinted, focusing on the shark's fingers instead of looking at the spinning contraption. He lowered his head to get a better point of view until it was resting on Mark's lap. The shark looked even more bashful for a second, and if he hadn't been focusing on something else, Tobías would have called him cute. "Yeah, I think I see the problem. See your thumb? Move it a bit that way... No, the other way. No, let me... Let me move it. Okay. Okay! See? It spins a lot less now, doesn't it?"

"Yeah." Mark sounded relieved. "I guess this is more like it."

"Don't try to rush the movement. Try to follow the swing of the pocketwatch with your wrist. Don't... Yeah, exactly. Yeah! You're doing a fine job now."

"Thank you." The shark was blushing a bit. "I guess it really wasn't that difficult, huh? I just needed you to help me. It's swinging much better now."

"It is," Tobías agreed, his head resting on the shark's stomach now. The cat's eyes moved down to the pocketwatch, which was swinging in slow, wide arcs. Its silvery luster was really captivating. "I hope it wasn't too expensive."

"... I'm not answering that," Mark answered. He sounded a bit distracted.

"Well, I wouldn't want you to spend too much money in things like these. Even if you think they can make me happy," the cat argued, smiling. "You already do plenty of things that make me happy."

"Yeah."

Maybe that was one of Mark's problems, Tobías thought. The shark was always trying to please him, which contrasted a bit with his slightly intimidating appearance. When they'd started living together, he'd made sushi every single night. Sushi was one of Mark's fortes and Tobías had enjoyed it for a while, but soon it became clear that the shark was only doing it every night to make him happy. The cat even wormed a confession out of his boyfriend - Mark had admitted that he didn't even like sushi that much to begin with, but he liked the face Tobías made whenever he held a maki with his chopsticks.

Of course Tobías had found Mark's words sweet at that time, but he couldn't let that happen. They'd decided they would only have sushi on Sundays, and only whenever Mark was feeling like it. Besides, a nutritious diet could hardly consist of sushi every single night.

It seemed like the same thing was going on now, but Tobías had to admit he liked the prospect of getting hypnotized by his boyfriend a bit more than his expertly made sushi. And the pocketwatch was really beautiful. It looked like something that belonged in a museum, not in his boyfriend's hand. And definitely not for kinky purposes.

Tobías' eyes had been following it as it swung back and forth for quite some time now, and even though his mind had been busy thinking about other stuff and he was barely light-headed, he could feel his focus being pulled towards the dangling trinket. But Mark wasn't speaking.

"Huh... Mark?" he asked, stretching a bit. He suppressed the need to let out a soft purr. He'd got really comfortable. "You know that you need to speak in order to put me under, right?"

"... What?" the shark asked. The motion of the pocketwatch seemed hesitant for a moment, then it resumed its usual swaying movement. "Oh, yeah. Uh, sorry. This thing works too well."

"I guess it does," Tobías admitted, chuckling softly.

"Good." The cat rested his head on Mark's belly again as the shark began speaking, the vibration of his deep voice coming from underneath his skin. The pocketwatch kept swinging just above his head, right in front of his eyes. It was easy to stare at. "You... You focus on the pocketwatch. Er... It's swinging left and right. Left and right. Left and right and left... and right... and... and..." The shark coughed. He sounded like he'd just been caught off guard. "And you're getting sleepy. Yes, you're getting sleepy. And soon you'll be asleep. And you'll be asleep but you can speak, because... because... Ah. Sorry. This isn't going well. I should have paid more attention yesterday. I don't know what I'm doing."

"That's okay," Tobías reassured him, chuckling softly. If anything, it was terribly cute to see his boyfriend try to get it right like that. "You know, it's not _really_like being asleep. It's something different."

"Oh, yeah?" Mark asked. He seemed embarrassed again.

"Mhm. I guess it feels a bit like sleeping, because you get all calm and relaxed in all the good ways, but at the same time... you're aware." Tobías had been hypnotized by fellow hypnokinksters a few times, and even though he wasn't a hypnotist, he was already familiar with the feeling. "If the other person gets it right, you begin to focus on the changes in your body, how your muscles lose all tension and your body gets completely limp. They ask you to focus on your breathing and how deep and slow and natural it becomes. And at some point you're simply focusing, not because they're telling you to focus, but because it feels good to focus. I guess it makes sense, right? After all, when you're relaxed, the only thing you want to do is getting more relaxed."

"Y-yeah..." Mark sighed again. Tobías could feel his head lowering with the shark's body, which seemed to be sinking slowly in the couch. Maybe under other circumstances the cat would have realized what that meant, but there weren't many times in which he could talk about his main kink with his boyfriend, and he was still in the middle of his explanation.

"And at some point, when you're all loose and limp and your mind is kinda foggy, there's a turning point and they ask you to follow what they're saying. And you do, because they've made you feel so good that it's ridiculous not to keep following their words by then, and besides, there's not much else you can think about because you're so focused. And they keep on speaking, and you nod absent-mindedly, but it's not like you're asleep. It's more like being caught between asleep and awake."

Tobías realized then he'd been talking for a while and waited courteously for his boyfriend's input, but it never came. He frowned and realized he'd stopped staring at the pocketwatch some time ago, as focused on his description of a trance as he was.

Wait, he thought. He'd described what a trance felt like. Which meant...

"... Mark?" he asked. If he was guessing right, then the sushi thing wouldn't be the only sweet anecdote he'd have to share with his friends.

"... yeaaah?" came the shark's voice, slow and noticeably drowsy.

I can't believe this is happening. He must be the most suggestible person I've ever met.

The cat moved slowly so that he wouldn't disturb Mark's placid state, shifting his position so that he could leave his boyfriend's side without getting between him and the swinging pocketwatch. When he managed to stand up next to the couch, he could get a better view of how the shark was looking at that very moment.

Glassy eyes focused on the swinging pocketwatch, moving back and forth with the movement and partly covered by heavy eyelids. The shark's shoulders had sunk down and the hand that wasn't holding the pocketwatch rested limply on the couch. If he hadn't been leaning against the back of the couch, he'd probably be lying down on his side, unable to keep straight under the overwhelming weight of his body. His lower jaw was hanging a bit lower than usual, his mouth half-open as he stared and stared at the swinging contraption.

"This is adorable," Tobías heard himself say. His heart warmed at the sight of his boyfriend being so deeply hypnotized by his own hand. Well, maybe it's been a bit of a collaborative effort, he thought.

But he couldn't leave him like that. He cleared his throat.

"Mark, in a moment I'm going to ask you to wake up, and you'll be right back with me, feeling relaxed and refreshed, and completely aware of your surroundings. Nod your head if you understand."

The shark's head moved up and down in slow motion. He looked so out of it that it even turned Tobías on a bit.

"Good. Now... Wake up."

Mark's eyes blinked heavily. His wrist trembled and the pocketwatch began twirling erratically again. He seemed confused for a while and then his still unfocused gaze moved to Tobías. The cat waited patiently until awareness seemed to return to his boyfriend's mind and perception sparkled in his green eyes.

"Welcome back," he said, with a smile.

Mark opened his mouth. He tried to answer, but it didn't look like he knew what to say. His perplexed gaze moved from the pocketwatch to his boyfriend, and then back to the pocketwatch. It took him a few seconds to understand what had happened.

"No way," he said, as his cheeks flushed red. "No way that happened."

"It did," Tobías assured him. The cat couldn't stop smiling - he might not admit it openly, but he enjoyed flustered Mark. "Bet it felt good, though."

"It felt alright, but oh god. I was supposed to be the one hypnotizing you. How could this... I... I didn't even know you could hypnotize yourself!" the shark exclaimed. "Good thing I'm not into this stuff. I'd be the worst hypnotist around."

"You'd make a good subject, though," Tobías remarked. Mark glared at him and he laughed. "Oh, come on! You looked very cute. I wanted to hug you and give you all kinds of suggestions to follow."

"Yeah, but that's not what you like," the shark grumbled. He didn't look as frustrated as before, but Mark had never seen him so embarrassed. "You want a big, strong hypnotist that'll command you to do stuff."

"I got a big, strong shark staring mindlessly at the pocketwatch he was holding. You won't hear me complain."

"You're trying to sugarcoat it," Mark objected, with a frown.

"I'm not! It was really cute, I promise. Maybe it didn't turn me on the way you wish it did, but I did like it a lot."

The shark crossed his arms on his chest and let out some unintelligible words. Tobías felt bad for smiling, but he couldn't resist. If only Mark wasn't feeling so self-conscious, he would have teased him more, but the shark looked like he was already struggling to look at him in the face. Tobías placed a paw on his big head.

And then he had an idea.

"Hmm. Well, if we can't stop you from getting zonked, maybe we should..." A sly smile came to his face. "Alright. I think I know how to do this."

"You're going to teach me how to resist hypnosis?" the shark asked, raising his head. He seemed hopeful, even though the cat's smile was anything but trustworthy.

"What? No! I have a... different idea." Tobías walked behind Mark and grabbed his heavy arm.

The shark turned his head to give him a confused look, but he let the cat move his limb until it was right where it'd been before - the pocketwatch dangling again right before his eyes. Mark's eyes focused on it almost instantaneously, as if they had gained a natural predisposition to follow the slow movement. His wrist twitched, and he was about to begin moving his wrist when he realized what his boyfriend was trying to do.

"Hey! You're trying to hypnotize me again!" he complained. He tried to lower the pocketwatch, but Tobías stopped his arm from moving down and he decided to give the cat a chance to explain himself. "Tob! How's that supposed to help me hypnotize you?"

"It will. Come on. Do you trust me or not?" Tobías asked. Even though Mark couldn't see his face now, he could have sworn the cat was smiling.

"I trust you, but..."

"Then stop squirming and let me help you," the cat insisted. Now Mark was completely sure his boyfriend was smiling. He decided there wasn't much he could do at that point and let out a soft sigh.

The tension in his arm disappeared and he let Tobías move it up again, until the pocketwatch was where it should be again. His eyes were drawn to it automatically.

"Okay. Go on," he said, biting his lip. "I hope you know what you're doing..."

"I am. Just let me take charge of this, okay? For now, you should just be making that pocketwatch swing." Mark could feel Tobías' breath in his ear and it made him shiver a bit, but he did as he was told. "That's right. See? The movement is already natural for you. And I can see your eyes are moving left and right as it swings, following the watch. The good thing about having already been hypnotized once is that it is so much easier to go back to it. It's a familiar feeling that's starting at your toes now, climbing up your knees and getting to your waist. And from there, it just spreads to the rest of your body until you're nice and limp again. Gooood."

Mark was feeling it. Under other circumstances, he might have felt ashamed of falling into his boyfriend's spell so easily, but a good fraction of his inhibitions was slowly being disconnected, and his body felt good enough that he could allow himself not to worry about something so trivial. Instead, he continued watching the swinging pocketwatch as it went back and forth.

"That's right. Back and forth. It's taking over you easily. You remember how good it feels to be in this state. Your eyelids are getting heavier. Your thoughts are slowing down. You're feeling more and more focused with every passing second - focusing on the pocketwatch, focusing on my voice, focusing on how good you feel. You're going to take a deep breath in for me now... hold it... and as you let it out you'll feel your mind slip back into a deep, pleasant trance. Yes... Just like that."

Tobías paused for a second and let silence take the place of his words.

Then, he moved around the shark, just to check he was really hypnotized. He'd never actually tried to hypnotize anyone and had instead played it by ear this time, but it seemed his words had had an effect on Mark. His body looked heavy and relaxed once again, and his eyes were glassy and staring vacantly, pupils following the pocketwatch with lazy devotion. How can he still swing the pocketwatch?, the cat asked himself. He couldn't help but notice that the fact Mark hadn't been able to swing it when he was awake but had no problems doing so while he was entranced was funny, to say the least.

In any case, the shark looked nicely hypnotized. At least, that was what Tobías thought he looked like when some of his friends put him in a deep, obedient trance.

He placed one of his paws on Mark's shoulder. The shark didn't move, but his body was rising and sinking slowly with each heavy breath he took.

Okay. I don't think I can make a much better job than this, Tobías thought. It was time to try his plan.

"Now, as you keep staring at the pocketwatch, I'd like you to imagine that you're holding it," he began saying, "and waving it in front of me. As you make it swing, I get more and more relaxed. You're speaking so confidently, too. It's not long before you make me go completely limp, and with a few more words, you put me in a deep hypnotic trance. You're feeling so proud of yourself as you see my eyes glaze over. I begin to nod. You start giving me instructions and I follow them without hesitation."

A smile appeared on Mark's face and Tobías felt a wave of relief washing over him. Apparently, his plan was working, which was a good thing - if Mark hadn't taken that suggestion, the black cat would have had a lot to explain when his boyfriend snapped out of trance.

"I'm completely hypnotized by you and you're giving me more suggestions," he continued describing. "I look so out of it. You could ask me anything and I'd probably do it, but you don't. You just stick to the stuff that you think would make me feel good. And you can tell I'm feeling good. There's a big smile on my lips. Maybe I'm drooling a bit. I look so aroused, but you don't want to take advantage of me while I'm like that, which is very sweet of you." He paused for a bit. That was definitely something Mark would do. He was running out of things to suggest, though, so maybe it was time to wrap things up. "And you spend some time toying with me, showing me how helpless I am, and I squirm and moan and whisper your name while deeply entranced. Then, you decide it's time to bring me up again and you snap your fingers, waking me up."

Tobías thought for a second. Was that all? He hoped Mark would be satisfied with that fantasy. He had no idea what he'd say if the shark insisted on having a second session with him, but he'd find a way to work around that scenario.

"In a moment, I'm going to ask you to wake up and you'll believe that all I just described really happened," he said, hoping the suggestion would stick. He hesitated and decided to reinforce it, just in case. "It'll feel as real as your other memories. You won't even doubt it happened, because you'll be convinced it did. And you'll love to tease me about it." He added that last bit because he thought that was something he might like. "Now, on the count of three, you'll wake up, feeling refreshed and proud of how you handled me." To be fair, Tobías felt quite proud of how he'd handled the shark. He moved to the couch and sit down again, determined to play his part and pretend to wake up from a deep trance. "One... Slowly drifting upwards... Two... More and more aware of your surroundings... and three."

Mark blinked. His eyes were looking at the pocketwatch he'd been swinging back and forth for some time now, but they darted quickly to his boyfriend. The cat had slumped on the couch at some point and his body looked heavy and relaxed as he regained consciousness. The shark could feel a sly smile appearing on his face as he watched Tobías' cute eyes moving around, confusingly trying to make sense of what had happened.

"W... whaa..." the cat asked. He even let out a soft yawn.

"Welcome back, kitty," the shark greeted him. He was still feeling some of the dominance from having his boyfriend in that vulnerable state - he hadn't taken advantage of him, of course, but he might try to do other stuff that night. "Feeling alright?"

"Better than alright, honestly," Tobías admitted, stretching. "So, uh... did it work?"

"You're kidding, right?" Mark asked, laughing softly. "You mean you don't remember any of it?"

"I remember bits and pieces, but not the whole thing." The black cat tilted his head, as if making an effort to search through his foggy memories. "I... I really liked it. You were amazing. I felt so... small and obedient."

A genuine blush covered Tobías cheeks as he said those words. Mark was feeling prouder with each passing second.

"You were absolutely adorable," the shark mentioned, reaching for one of the cat's paws to squeeze it gently. "I might have to put you back in that state more often..."

"I mean, you don't need to," Tobías said, perhaps a bit rashly. "Er, I mean... After today, I kinda feel like doing... other stuff."

Mark held the black cat's gaze for an instant. Then, he pulled from the cat's arm until he was resting on his chest. Those feline claws climbed up his back until they reached his shoulder and scratched softly. Mark loved it when he did that. A purr escaped Tobías throat and the shark chuckled, hugging him tight.

"Other stuff?" he repeated, giving him his best shark smile. "Like what?"

"I don't know..." the black cat whispered. He raised his amber eyes, his cheeks still red and warm. Whether it was for the hypnosis session they'd had or not, Mark thought he looked immensely happy. "... Sushi?"
