Bleeding Fire: Burning Hearts

Story by The Bloody Eyed Wolf on SoFurry

I wandered aimlessly down the flaming wreck of the lab, following large bloody pawprints, to large to be anything other than a wild cats. They led to a place where from the twisted and mangled direction of them, looked like the owner had been in a struggle with something else.

"He-help." a weary groan drew my attention to a pile of griders resting in a jumbled mess, apparently on top of something.

After frantic digging, I had uncovered Chris' body, he was luckily still alive though impaled in many places by pieces of the iron griders.

"What happened?" I asked removing the deadly spears carefully hoping to not cause further damage. I tied pieces of my shirt around where i could to help bandage the wounds.

" Jake, don't waste your time with me, Kira is in trouble." His entire body tensed as waves of excruciating pain washed through him. After that breif second his body went limp. I pulled him free from what still had lain on top of him and used one of the griders as a marking place for where he rested.

I continued following the pawprints which led me to a door, I hesitated in front of it, and after picking up a shard of glass that lay not to far away from me, i pushed the door open.

A large white tiger stood in the middle of this room, holding on his claws, Kira's mother. The tiger seemed to have only noticed me just then, becuase when he looked in my direction he gave a slight look of surprise.

The surprise vanished and a smirk lay across his face in its place. "Your little vixen isnt going to be able to help you now." He retracted his claws letting the older vixen fall to the floor.

"What did you do with her." I demanded raising the glass shard into a fighting position.

"Don't worry about what happened to her, you will be seeing her shortly." He began walking toward me, muttering undistinguishable words under his breath.

Before I could react, something off to my side erupted sending a fiery stream directly toward me. I was caught in the out burst and one last thought of Kira flowed through my mind.

I bolted straight up in the bed i had fallen asleep in. Sweat soaked the blankets and my fur. I took a deep breath and got out of the bed, deciding to get dressed and get some fresh air.

"You'd think this was a rat maze or something." I was lost already and I had only made a few turns down different hallways.

A mix of dance music and something else I couldnt make out because of the muffled sound caught my attention. I found it slightly to my liking so I decided to follow the sound.

I found myself now at a slightly open door, which in fact very loud music was comming from. I took a little peak inside the room and found myself watching a scantily clad Tigress, dancing in the middle of her room. I turned away from the door rather quickly fearing that i might have been taken for something else.

"Well come in, I wont bite. . . too hard." Well i had been spotted but at least she wasnt raising any type of alarm.

"Umm, are you sure?" I was trying to delay, maybe she would change her mind and tell me to go away.

"Yes im sure, now get in here before I have to drag you in." She was threatening to drag me into her room, highly odd if I would have commented.

I backed into the room very slowly, still trying to delay and perhaps get away.

"Turn around, already, id like to be able to see the cute face of who im talking to again." I turned, as told to do, almost changing my mind and bolting out the door.

"Oh, your the new one, Bloody something or another, right?" Her emerald eyes sparkled a bit as she looked me over.

"Please, just call me Jake." I sounded like I was begging her to call me by my name, but what could I do? I didnt like it when anyone did something like that to my nickname.

"I like that name, I'm Melissa." She patted her bed next to her in an expression for me to sit. I didnt take any time to think it over, I just sat where she indicated.

"So, how did you end up in this place?" Her hand found its way to my leg making me a bit uncomfortable.

"Ehmm, Kira rescued me and brought me here." I kept my voice steady as well as motionless as shivers climbed my spine.

"Well besides being rescued thats how me and Chris got here," Melissa stated moving her hand further up my leg, causing me to jump, "and please do tell how she rescued you."

I started the tale with a crack. I swallowed deeply and started again. Now I spoke comfortably telling of how Kira found me, what had happened before we came here, and of the white tiger hunting me.

"I never knew one could have so much excitement in only two days," She commented after i had finished, "I really hope that he doesnt show up here."

"He'd better not think of it." I hadn't noticed that she had been leaning against me, since i was overfilled with rage and anger.

"Well now, we dont want you getting to upset." She placed her other hand on my back, appearing to be trying to comfort me.

"I suppose not, I doubt he'll find me here anyway." I didnt want anyone getting worried over the note i had found earlier.

"I dont think so either, this place is well hidden," She grinned at me her emerald eyes glittering again, "now i'd like to see something."

"What would that be?" I covered my crotch area in case thats what she meant. I really wasnt up to showing off that sort of thing at this exact time.

"Not that, silly." She placed a hand upon my cheek turning my head to face hers. She leaned forward, pressing her muzzle to mine. I didnt quite accept it but didnt reject either.

At one point I did need to take a breath, and the instant i opened my mouth i felt her rough tounge slide through my open mouth. I wasnt complaining yet, I found the action to my liking actually but, Kira had popped into my thoughts again and I figured I should stop this.

I attempted to push away lightly, it hadnt worked, so I tried again a little harder. Melissa's grip was too strong to break right now so I quit struggling, which was the only possible thing at the moment, and let her have her way.

I must have passed out during my attempts to get away from Melissa's grip because morning had awoken me. I was still in her grasp but she was asleep so i slipped from her grip easily.

It was sometime past noon when i reached where the testing labs were, I noticed a familliar smell but couldnt place a finger on where id taken it before.

"Hello, Jake." Kira's voice came from behind me. I jumped and spun around rather quickly.

"Please dont sneak up on me like that." I complained, keeping the tone quiet though.

"Sorry, just wanted. . something else is in here." She looked around rather nervously as if she had sensed some evil energy approaching.

I took in a deep breath and knew exactly what it was now. "He's here."

Just as i got this out a horrible screaching noise echoed from the ceiling. The metal of the roof was bending upwards, straining to keep hold of the rising roof.

Chris and Kira's mother clamboured out of the lab area, dropping to their knees as the sound reached their ears.

Finally the roof had taken all it could and broke away leaving a large hole in the ceiling. Over it stood a large white tiger, claws extended and teeth bared.

Melissa came from a near by hallway a bow in her hand. She must have heard the noise caused by the shredded roof.

"I told you, you can't hide from me wolf." The white tiger lept down into the room, a nasty grin across his face.

I drew a knife i had stolen from the kitchens after the first day of being here and threw it as hard as it was possible for me to throw anything. He had caught it though, despite the missles speed.

"You'll have to try harder than that this time." He tossed the knife over his shoulder. His ugly grin still smeared over his face.

A light whistling noise came from where Kira was standing. While turning to see what had happened a spinning stick of metal brought my gaze back toward the white tiger. The flying metal struck him against his arm, he did move but only to regain his balance.

"You fight better without these things." Why was he complimenting her fighting? I couldnt figure it out but i didnt have time to either, the metal was flying again in the opposite direction. It didn't hit Kira but Melissa instead, sending her flying backwards.

Chris lept forward sounding a loud snarl as he neared the tiger. He slashed at the tiger but made no contact, instead he just flew by the white tiger's fist giving him a further increase in speed. I could have sworn i heard something crack.

"NO!" I yelled at Kira as she started to charge the tiger her self. I knew something was going to happen before it happened but I couldn't get myself between them now that Kira had already made contact with the white tiger.

Time seemed to slow down, forcing me to watch exactly what happened in full detail. Kira got a few lucky strikes in but that was it, the tiger struck a possibly fatal score on her.

She fell forward a gaping wound poured blood from her side. Time sped up again as I rushed blindly forward. The only thing I knew I wanted just then was the white tiger's blood to be spilled over the floor.

We clashed in a fury of strikes from the both of us. We had only fought for a few minutes and blood was already soaking the two of us. A quick slash from him sent blood flying from directly above my eye to half way across our battle area. It only enraged me more and I fought on.

The twang of a string was carried to my ears and a short second later the sound of metal piercing flesh. The wooden shaft of an arrow caught my attention. The tiger fell back ripping the arrow from his side. I looked for where the arrow came from and spotted Melissa, with a second arrow already knocked to the bow she was carrying.

I turned back to face the tiger again, he held the arrow like he would a throwing knife, he threw it like one too. The arrow sailed straight toward Melissa but before the sound of it piercing her skull rang through the room, Chris had come again holding the arrow in his only working arm.

He dropped the arrow and picked the kitchen knife up off the floor, tossing it at the tiger in a sideways direction. It would have killed him since it hit his head, if not for the blunt end of the knife hit.

It did serve in stunning him however, I took that small chance and lept for the throat. He mostly blocked my attack, I only skinned the flesh around his neck.

He threw me away, back toward Chris and Melissa. He followed shortly, stopping directly in front of the panther. The tiger's huge fist closed around Chris' neck, lifting him off the ground. "You should have killed me with that attack, now you have to watch your friends die." He growled.

"I have other plans." I rammed my shoulder in to his gut, forcing him to drop Chris as i pushed him back into a wall.

He threw me off again but this time I stayed where i could still fight. He charged forward raising his hammer of a fist to strike with. I was about to roll off to the side when i noticed the flaw in his charge. I lept forward aiming for his chest, striking his unproteced fleash.

Melissa launched her second arrow, it struck the throat of the white tiger. He coughed up blood, smothering me in the warm liquid. I pulled away from him watching him stagger backwards and fall, finally dead.

The exact moment the tiger hit the floor I bolted to where Kira had fallen at. "Is she. . . dead?" Chris came up behind me followed shortly by Melissa. I was about to answer yes but a small movement caught my eyes, it was the movement of Kira's chest, rising and falling very slowly.

Chris had noticed to and came up beside me. "Melissa, I need a large piece of cloth." He looked like he knew what he was doing so I moved aside and let him work. Something tore behind us and a large strip of Melissa's shirt was handed over Chris' shoulder.

He finished bandaging Kira's wound and stood up, both of his hands were covered with blood. "She just needs rest now, Jake, we should get her to her room." I nodded and crouched again to pick up Kira.

Chris led the way down the twisting hallways, I carried Kira behind him, and Melissa followed with her hand resting on my shoulder for comfort.

We reached the designated room where Chris and Melissa helped me lay out Kira on her bed. The two of them left while I stayed to make sure she was going to be alright till morning.
