#5 of The hack book 3: The Citadel

Finally got this chapter out, sorry for the long wait of over four weeks (talk about going off schedule) but I finished this chapter and will be working on the next one to be posted in two weeks time (maybe one week since I am going to be free for the next two days and may work on the story in most of that time) but until then, hope you enjoy this chapter!

"Look, we know that you are one of the Tsociety hackers, just tell us what you know and we can grant you protection," Daren the polar bear said.

"I invoke my fifth amendment privilege against self-incrimination and respectfully decline the answer to your question," Kate said, knowing that if she revealed anything everyone in Tsociety would be completely shit faced.

"You can keep trying to invoke the fifth amendment but as a terrorist, you have no rights," Daren said.

"..."

"So, either tell us what you know about Tsociety and we grant you protection, or stay silent and get thrown in jail," Daren said, getting irritated by Kate's stubbornness.

"..."

"Fine, I will give you some time to decide," Daren said as he turned and went outside of the room.

'Damn it, I can't afford to reveal Tsociety to him though,' Kate thought.

"..."

"I'm back," Daren said as he entered the room holding a plastic bag containing two scorched pieces of plastic and s slightly charred phone.

"We were able to get your phone out of the fire quickly and even replace the battery to make it to work, now we just have to boot it and see everything about Tsociety there," Daren said.

"If that's case my phone's not going to do shit, I wiped it on the bus," Kate said as Daren took a look at the screen which revealed the setup screen showing that she had factory reset the phone.

"Well, guess you were smart enough to do that," Daren said as he put the phone away.

"Though, that isn't the only evidence we have," Daren said as he pulled out a raspberry pi which had a logo drawn on it with a marker. A logo that was drawn with a marker that belonged to Jane, a marker that Kate very explicitly remembered was from before the hack of Furon.

With Jake...

'Alright, I just need to type in the command and test out the sudo bug and hope that it works,' Jake thought as he tested out the exploit on his home server which was running the same linux system as the Citadel's servers.

After typing in the command, he was able to gain full root access without the needed password and began to test the malware that he modified from Ghost Code. After five minutes of waiting for the program to complete deleting the data, it finally completed erasing the data and after running some data recovery software Jake had, he confirmed that it was completely wiped with only the folder 'positive_test' containing more Furcoin than before and all accounts having a near equal amount of Furcoin.

'Great, I wonder where Kate is,' Jake thought as he took out his phone and messaged her over signal. He got back a reply shortly after which told him that she had a long shift.

'Well that explains it, I will just have to send the code to the rest of Tsociety,' Jake thought as he opened Signal on his laptop and sent the message along with the files in the Tsociety Signal Group chat.

Jake finished uploading after about fifteen minutes and went to shutdown his server. He decided to try something out with the sudo exploit and opened his laptop to type out the commands.

Jake ran the software on his testing server to see what would happen and saw that the data was erased, but when he ran some data recovery software with the same sudo exploit, he was able to recover all of the data completely intact.

'I don't believe it,' He thought and ran the exploit again to check wether it was actually just an error. After running the exploit again, he was still able to read all of the data without a single file being corrupted.

'I need to tell Trent about this,' Jake thought and opened protonmail to message Trent about the exploit and was about to hit enter when someone managed to unlock the door.

"Who is i-" Jake said, but was cut off by a gunshot in his left arm.

Jake clutched his arm in pain, he quickly used his right hand to hit enter on the keyboard before the next gunshot hit his head.

"Next time, don't sneeze in my ear when I'm aiming," a Badger said who had took Jake's laptop and checked it for any information after noticing some ssh logins from their server with the IP address leading back to Jake's house.

With Asher...

"Should I wear this white hoodie? Or should I just wear my usual T-shirt," Asher asked himself as he went through his clothes to prepare for the hack that they would be performing on Ghost Code.

He went towards a nearby cafe where he could swipe a keycard from someone.

When he reached the cafe, he found some furs with their landyard showing that they were from The Citadel.

'Those fools didn't think about keeping their landyards when outside,' Asher thought and held his bag in his hand.

"Sorry," he said as he passed them with his bag passing their keycards and successfully gained the access code needed to enter the building till level 3.

He then ordered some coffee and sat down on a table while opening Signal Desktop to send the code to everyone so that they could dopy the code and make their own keycards. His coffee arrived not long after and he decided to practice coding a worm that could infect an entire WiFi network if need be.

With Trent...

"When was the last time we had a date?" Trent asked as he and Aron were walking towards an Italian restaurant, just like their first date.

"About two weeks if I remember correctly, we have been really busy with these hacks lately," Aron said.

"Well, at least when its Christmas we will have more time to have another date," Trent said and began to lean on Aron's shoulder.

Trent and Aron had wanted the hacks to end eventually, they knew that they couldn't keep doing this forever and they had less time for each other after the hacks they did became more frequent, they agreed that this would be their final hack once and for all.

After walking for fifteen minutes, they eventually arrived at the restaurant and went to a table where they would order their food.

"Ordering Escargots again?" Aron asked Trent.

"Yep, just like our first time," Trent said as they waited for the waiter to arrive and order their food.

{Can't believe this is just like back then,} Scient said.

{Yeah, except that we are over 1000 miles away from where we were,} Sine said.

{But aside from that, it is still quite similar to our first date,} Trent said as memories of when they first met replayed in his mind.

{Well that time you were coding malware was pretty embarrassing, no?}

{Sine, you were never allowed to talk about my memories,} Trent replied.

{True, but I can still talk about what you are thinking,} She said.

{How about we just-} Scient said and managed to cause Sine to stop talking.

{I still don't get how you do that,} Trent told Scient.

{She is a part of you, she knows how to shut herself up and therefore I know how to shut her up,} Scient said and went silent as Trent and Aron enjoyed their date.

With Chris...

"How the ftp server going?" Chris asked Mike.

"Good, got all 1 terabyte of storage available for use and the rest of tsociety knows about it," Mike said as he typed in Signal on his computer.

"That's nice," Chris said and sat beside Mike, leaning on his shoulder.

"Not as nice as you," Mike said and started to pet Chris, Chris did not object and sat there staying quiet with a smile on his face.

"What do you think we will be doing after the hack?" Chris asked Mike.

"Not quite sure, maybe just have some sort of social media blog since just about everyone knows we are one of the tsociety hackers," Mike said and looked back on the memories he and Chris had. Hundreds of hacks had been performed with Chris and all of them eventually let to this final one, the hack that would end tsociety for good.

"I doubt it, we aren't Edward Snowden last time I checked," Chris said with a chuckle.

"True," Mike said.

"We should begin working on the worm though, Ghost Code may figure out what we are doing soon," Chris said and continued typing on his computer.

Mike also began typing commands on his computer to upload the exploit to Ghost Code's malware that would be able to redistribute the wealth.

"And it is-done," Mike finished and kept his laptop.

"Nice, could you go and grab a cup of water for me?" Chris asked Mike, he went into the kitchen and grabbed a cup which he began to fill with water.

'I hope Trent and the others are okay, things are going to take a very big turn after this,' Mike thought to himself and didn't notice the water overflowing from the cup and on to his hands.

"Um, Mike?" Chris asked as he heard water dripping.

"Yeah-Oh," Mike said and turned off the tap, he took the cup and gave it to Chris.

"Thanks, what were you thinking about though?" Chris asked.

"Umm, I was thinking about how things would be like after the hack," Mike said and placed his arm around Chris' shoulder.

"Okay, what do you think it will be like then?"

"I'm not quite sure, I guess maybe we could try and get a job in coding, I mean come on, you managed to code malware that utilised a Zero Day Exploit in Java to gain remote access to just about every android phone the FBI had before they found us," Mike said.

"Which was also how they managed to track us since I forgot to add a proxy chain to the remote access, I'm not that good," Chris replied.

"Still, you can code in Java pretty well and there's a wide range of job opportunities for it like gave development, android app development, launchers, web application if you could get around javascript and so much more. Shouldn't you be thinking about what you would do after the hack?" Mike explained.

"Yes, but you know I'm not the kind of fur who spends a lot of time planning or is good with it in general, I am looking into some possible jobs but for now I just want to enjoy these last moments here," Chris said and leaned into Mike, his fur was still soft as always.

"Okay then, thought you don't have to act cute all the time," Mike said which made Chris blush slightly.

"Well-" Chris was cut off by his phone's notification, he apparently received a message in protonmail.

'''

Dear, Everyone

I have been able to find a way to recover all of the data from the servers using my account.

If we were to use the sudo exploit to gain root access on their servers, we would be able to run some data recovery software that could recover all of the data Ghost Code erased. It seems as if the program used to erase it isn't very secure as it has to encrypt in RSA and then erase it.

I made a program which is linked to this email, this program will bas able to recover the data so long as you have the encryption keys of the program. The encryption keys would be hard to find out, but if you can figure out the primes of certain character used, you could potentially recreate the RSA encryption key and be able to decrypt all of the recovered data.

From,

Jake

"Did you also get this email?" Chris asked Mike.

"Yep, I got it saying the exact same thing, do you really think it's possible?" Mike said.

"If the program does encrypt the data, which I know it does, then it would definitely work," Chris said.

"I'm going to-" Chris said but stopped when he checked the video feed of Jake's house.

It looked like the place was robbed with objects and furniture being strewn all over the place.

And Jake's body lying on the couch covered in his own blood.
