#1 of Mech Story

This is Chapter one of my first attempt at a sci-fi story setting. There are some obvious tropes in this that I've plucked from some other settings, just tweaked a bit to better suit the story and world.

Do leave me some feedback please, as like I said. this is my FIRST time writing within a sci-fi setting for the nearly 15 years I've been doing RP and writing in one way or another!

A massive gold scaled feral dragon was walking around within a large hangar, seemingly pacing back and forth in front of a much larger metallic feral looking dragon, nearly 43 meters in length from its snout to the tip of its tail. Teireas had soon taken a seat in front of it, staring at the large metal contraption as he shook his head left to right a touch, speaking softly. "Must they really give me one of these? What do I need it for?"

A xenomorph soon stepped beside him, lightly patting Teireas on his shoulder as he spoke to the dragon. "You know why they give us these things Teir. And this was just put together about a week ago...specifically for you. One of the newest models we've had in the hangar in all honesty. Everything else here is more than a year old, though I suppose that is one of the perks of becoming one of the new pilots for the Instruments." The xeno had chuckled, waving his spiny, pointed tail off towards the mech that stood beside the dragons own, a seemingly direct copy of the xenomorph stood beside the dragon, nearly the same height as the dragons was long, aside it being in a hunched position. "You did test out of the new recruits the highest in compatibility with the system. You seemed to have complete control over the practice and test mechs they gave, even if you didn't fit inside the practice one properly. This one though should solve that clumsiness you had in it a week or so ago."

As soon as the xenomorph had stopped talking, a rather slim looking fox walked over towards the two, speaking, her voice sound much more high pitched than the dragon was expecting, "I see the new recruit is here finally!" The dragon's ears perked up a bit at the mention of that, sitting himself back as he nodded his head, looking down to the smaller fox, which simply stared up to him, seemingly studying him a moment. She soon spoke up again, smiling. "Good to have to aboard Teireas. I see you've met Doc already. It's a nickname to be honest, but a well earned one. He's our field medic when it's needed. Repairing things and what not in the field. Mechanic technically, but we all think Doc suits him more! I am guessing, judging by your mech, you are our new aerial support. Though from the schematics and design of your mech that I've looked over, it seems you are quite suited for combat as well. One of the only mechs we have that can breath fire...." The xenomorph arched an eye ridge at this and looked to the large golden mech beside his own a moment. "Really now!? So that's why they had me install an exhaust system inside its cockpit...to expel all that excess heat and fire! Along with the large fuel canisters that are tucked away in the belly of this thing!"

The fox gave a nod of her head to the xenomorph, giggling softly at the sound of his shock, "Indeed. Teireas here is also our aerial sniper. The test papers showed his eyesight to be quite impressive, even without a scope to it, and his response and aim was nothing to be laughed at either...though there are differences to our regular, ground team sniper rifles, and the one they are giving your Instrument." The fox gave a pause, thinking a moment as she looked to the dragon again. "I am assuming you've gotten used to the sync system by now?" Teireas gave a light rumbling growl, shaking his head a bit left to right. "For the normal mechs, yes certainly. But as you well know, each mech is....different. Like....the others didn't have synchronization for my wings or tail properly, but it seems they've built mine with those in mind. So it'll just be something I have to work with soon enough."

The vixen gave a nod of her head to the dragon, smiling to him as she motioned to the two mechs, then the two standing before her. "Good...then now is a good opportunity to get used to them, we're part of a three man team today. Nothing major, just a simple re-supply run we've gotta do. Need to grab some metal and fuel for the team. The other two ground members have been given the day off since command seems to think we'll be fine on our own." The dragon gave a slight pause, twitching his large tail about from left to right a bit beside himself. "R...really!? Already!?" The xenomorph gave a laugh, nodding his head as he pat the dragon on the back, soon stepping over and carefully climbing up into the cockpit of his Instrument, settling himself in as he went about hooking up the various devices to his body properly. "You'll be alright Teireas. It's a simple mission, should just be us going in, getting it, then getting home!"

Teireas stared as he watched the vixen walk off to do the same as the xenomorph had just done, soon enough carefully walking up along the back of his own Instrument, leaping down into the cockpit that was situated within the mid-back. Soon enough, he had himself hooked up to the various braces and electrodes, feeling a slow, almost cold like feeling trace from the tip of his tail, to the end of his snout. Closing his eyes, he soon re-opened them, looking out through the eyes of the large mech he was now within, ears soon perking up as he heard the voice of Central Command through his headset, the following two from the vixen and xenomorph. "Recon team report in!" As soon as the order was given, the three sounded off, separate from each other, but voices giving full attention and commanding authority, "Systems operational command. Black Venom reporting in! Everything green!" Soon, the vixen's voice followed the xenomorphs, "Fire Claws, reporting in. Systems operational. Everything green!"

Teireas snapped out of his brief trance a moment, letting a loud growl go through his mental link, an even louder reverberating growl echoing within the hangar the Instruments were held within. "Golden Scales reporting in!." He paused a moment, flexing his limbs, then stretching his wings and tail, feeling each one respond, turning his head left then right to see if each movement he had done responded within the new mech he had been given. "Systems operational!" His eyes scanned the various small screens and dials that were within his display, soon barking out once more. "Everything green!"

With that said, the dragon turned his head in the constraints it was within, the mechs head turning itself as well towards the now open doors of the hangar, soon making walking motions, the mech following suit and walking to the entrance, stood between the vixen and xenomorph mechs. He gazed out over the expanse of the dry, arid desert the colony was surrounded by, huffing slightly as he soon followed the two out into the blazing heat of the sun.

Everything was quiet on their travels, occasionally speaking with the two units on the ground below himself as his mech suit lazily floated through the air above. He soon growled out, before speaking to the two, as well as command. "Permission to scout ahead?" There was radio silence for a moment, before a firm stiff voice came through the coms within the suits, "Permission granted. Be careful up there Scales. We havn't been out this way in a moment."

Teireas gave a slight nod of his head, glancing down towards his companions a moment, before he flapped his wings and a burst of jet-fuel had erupted from his wings, small bursts of flame erupting from the tips as they suddenly propelled himself forward at a rapid pace, arching himself upwards a moment further into the air as he scanned the area below, spotting a destroyed radio tower near-by thinking quietly to himself. ~That wasn't...expected....that felt stranger than I was ready for....~ He shook it off though, soon coming to a stop, the jets in his wings pointing down towards the ground, giving him the feeling of hovering in the air as he surveyed the landscape. The mechs eyes soon shifted to an infra-red at a mental request, and he spoke out through the comms, to both his companions, and to command. "Looks....normal from up here. Just....a radio tower and what looks like a small building adjacent to it. About 20 cliques to the east...."

Dash, the Xenomorph had gave a light chuckle as he nodded his head a bit, soon dashing off rapidly towards the tower in the distance, the vixen soon following after, nearly just as quick as the xeno, "Keep an eye out scales, me and Claws are moving in!" The vixen, Shiela soon was running alongside the xenomorph, the mechs making heavy thudding sounds within the sand and dry earth beneath them. "We're nearing the tower Scales. You see anything yet!?"

The dragon had landed upon a large out-cropping near-by, having taken out the large sniper rifle on his back and propping it up on its stands, eye gazing through the scope down towards the tower and surrounding area as he spoke through the comms. "Everything's....quiet Claws. You and Venom are clear from my sight!" He kept watch though on the tower, crouching himself down as low to the ground as he could get, keeping his scope soon fixed on the building near-by that both Dash and Shiela were headed towards.

The two soon came to a slowed stop, the hydraulics within the suits letting out a loud hissing sound as they came to a stop, slowly approaching the building, Dash speaking up through the comms. "This is where the supplies are held huh?" He paused and he held out one of the mech-suits long front claws, cutting off the vixens advance as he spoke up. "Stop moving....go silent." Shiela came to a stop behind his clawed hand, looking over to him curiously a moment as she questioned. "B...but shouldn't we..." She soon quickly turned her head as the two watched a large black gunk looking creature leap from the shadows of the building, Dash lashing out his tail towards the oncoming creature.

A loud resounding snap cracked through the air though, the black creature soon exploding in a shower of viscera and mucus before the Xenomorphs tail could connect with the creature. Coming to an almost shocked stop, he spoke up through the comms as a loud click-clack was heard through them briefly. "Nice shot Scales. Good eye! Keep that thing trained on us, got it?!" Teireas snorted slightly, though kept his scope trained on the two down below as he spoke up just a brief moment through the comms, then went silent again. "Heard!"

Shiela had approached the door to the building, glancing about once she had poked her head inside, soon speaking up to the other two. "Clear. I think that was the only one!" Dash had nodded, soon following after the vixen as they looked around for whatever they could grab. "Keep me updated Scales! What's it look like?"

Teireas had nodded slightly once more, scanning the area surrounding the two a moment as he came to a stop nearly a mile he estimated from their current location on the ground. "That shot caught the attention of what looks like two in the distance.....We've got about 15 minutes before they arrive and bring hell with them!"

Dash and Shiela both nodded, as Shiela spoke up. "We've gotta hurry. Grab what you can get...." The two quickly began picking up various electronics, stuffing the piles of wires and circuits and scrap metals into various bags, along with grabbing what-ever food and water they found, stuffing it all into a separate bag. He tossed the food bag off to Shiela, slinging the large bag out his own shoulder that held all the electronics, "Let's get out of here before those things show up in force!" Shiela nodded in agreement, the two stepping from the building, but came to a stop as the ground beneath them began to shake violently.

The two on the ground quickly leapt up and landed on the roof of the building, just in time to avoid two large white pincer-like teeth erupting from the sands, followed by several smaller black masses, and a large head to accompany the teeth. Dash gave a hiss down towards the ground as he shook his head a bit. "They were already here!" At that, he pulled out a large halberd like weapon, resembling his own mechs tail in shape, jabbing it down firmly towards the ground as the creature let out a loud, pain filled hissing noise.

Shiela had by now pulled out two large short swords from her hips, quickly swinging them ahead of herself to cleave another creature in half that had leapt up towards herself from the sands as well, "Damnit, we gotta get out of here. Scales, give us some cover fire!" She kept her eyes trained on the black masses though, watching as they wriggled and writhed about, soon converging upon one another as they thickened and extended into something much larger, the large pincers coming from the sand thickening as a large creature pulled itself up from the depths, a loud hissing like noise coming from it as it fixed its large eyes upon the Xenomorph and vixen.

Teireas by now had taken flight, a loud metallic roar coming from the skies above as he hollered out to the two. "Get moving NOW!" As he swooped down low to the ground, a hissing noise came from his mechs mouth, before a large super heated jet of flame erupted from his maw, engulfing the creature in a ball of fire that glassed the near surrounding area almost immediately. Dash and Shiela both looked at each other a brief moment, then nodded, the two taking off at a sprint through the sands back towards their base, while Teireas swooped up high once more, floating a moment to look over the glassed area, the creature stuck within it for now, soon turning and following after his two companions, "It'll be stuck for at-least a couple minutes. Should give us enough time to get out of here!"

Dash nodded as he spoke up towards the dragon, "That was quick thinking Scales. Good work for your first mission!" Shiela and Dash glanced up towards Teireas, who was circling in the air, taking occasional glances back towards the tower in the distance now, eyes watching the approaching creatures once more as he soon landed on the ground between the two, running along-side them now as command had come through their head-sets. "Good work you three, you can deposit the gear inside the hangar at the drop off location, then get yourselves unsuited. Tomorrow is a training session, no missions for you three!"

Shiela giggled through the comms as she nodded her head, the three soon dashing through the front doors of the hangar as she moved to situate her suit into its holding bay. "That was rather smooth. Aerial support is kind of nice honestly. Good eyes Teir! Good to have you aboard most certainly." She soon stepped out of her suit after getting herself un-hooked, Dash following suit as he landed beside her on the ground, "Indeed! Good work today Scales! Good to have you aboard as Shiela said. Eyes in the sky are going to be quite nice indeed!"

Teireas, who was still working his way from the hookups he was within, grunted a growled a moment as he stretched his wings out a bit. "I can imagine. Though the inside certainly got hot when I glassed that creature. Though it is certainly good the exhaust kicked in right away! For now though I'm going to go soak in my tub then get some sleep, that...wore me out quite horridly."

Dash and Shiela both laughed as they watched the dragon walk off deeper into the facility, Shiela looking over to the Xeno as she questioned, "Think he's gonna work?" Dash gave a shrug of his shoulders, "He took to the machine quickly, the compatibility worked superb with him too. And what a shot he is! Those tests certainly didn't lie about his capabilities. I do think we have the day off tomorrow, perhaps we should try to learn more of our new team-mate?"

Teireas had been soaking for some-time now within his large tub, head resting lazily on the floor as he thought of today, "That mech actually felt wonderful to pilot, I must thank the designer at some point cause it worked flawlessly. I just...didn't expect to be as tired as I am from what should have been a normal outing." His head lazily dropped onto the floor, his eyes slipping closed as he loosed a loud yawn, lazily relaxing himself into the tub as he let himself drift off into a light sleep, wondering what tomorrow shall bring with it and his new team!
