we all knew it would happen one day. When the world started to wither. one country picked a fight with another for better land. Then some more joined in and eventually one country threatened the rest a promise of a nuclear bombing. That country didn't expect all the other countries to reply with the threat of nukes. it was one big stand off, with everyone blaming everyone else. Thankfully someone saw some sense and called all the world leaders together and after a few months a treaty was formed and all the countries worked together and built a huge underground storage for all the nuclear missiles that had been made.
Then the humans all worked together to build transport ships off of this dying planet. Then they took off to the stars leaving us, "man's best friend" to die. Are we bitter? no. they were kind enough to build us three big cities. One for the avians, one for the felines and one for us. The canines. The cities were all equal in size and had a protective dome to keep us safe. Safe from what? we didn't know. Of course the humans didn't do this out of the kindness of their hearts. It's not in there nature to do so. Oh No. the dome was to keep us in whilst they fled.
In the year 3948 the felines attacked the Avian city. Wiping them off the face of the earth. They tried to take out us canines. We ripped their leader's throat out and they ran. In 3950 they returned. This time we wiped them completely out. So it was just us. All alone on the planet. We travelled to the other cities and took anything useful we could use to help us survive. The most interesting was the blueprints for a device that could turn a quadpedal into a bipedal. It was built and we advanced our race even further.
In 3999 it all went wrong. The humans had a stupid idea that in the year 2000 the world would end when every computer crashed and launched all the nukes. Destroying the world. They were almost right. They were just two thousand years off. We canines think we're lucky. If our human masters hadn't built these domes we would be well and truly done for. The nuclear missiles flew up past the clouds. Past the atmosphere and towards the already fragile sun. all it took was one nuke and it died plunging the world into a frozen "ice age" as the humans had called it many thousands of years ago. So we made a giant heating unit to sustain life.
It had worked, we were all saved. We celebrated for years, everyone was happy... Until someone figured out that the heater needed electricity. And we didn't have an endless supply of that. One day it would fail. We didn't know when though. In the year 4023 the first citywide blackout occurred canines froze in the short five minutes the power went down. Drastically lowering the population. We knew that time was short. People found different ways of coping. Some tried to live happy lives until the end came. Some however didn't cope so well.
I walked down the streets of the city watching in horror as dogs lit fires and started stealing stuff from shops. I looked at the flickering lights. Any day now. This city would be silent. The ghosts of thousands of canines would haunt this place forever more. I laid down in the middle of the street and watched the lights turn on and off. Soon. It would be the end. I saw my breath in front of my face. Then the lights turned off and the city screamed. Every few seconds the screaming got quieter and quieter until no one was left to scream. On that day caninekind and the earth perished.
