The Dinosaur exhibit
A new dinosaur exhibit in town? What could possibly go wrong.
It was July the 1st, the grand opening of the newest hotspot in town, The Dinosaur Exhibit. It was advertised as the one and only place you could go to see the pre-historic lizards and monstrous carnivores, and you could enjoy fresh meals and relax around the many shops and distinct locals. Me and my family got lucky enough to be the first to visit with an all expense paid weekend visit. They all were really excited about the trip, but I being an almost 20 year old man was way past the stage of liking dinosaurs even if they were real. But as an older brother I had to ensure that my younger brother was having a good time and not get himself into trouble.
When we arrived at the resort I was kind of impressed with the sheer size of the place. The main lunch area was surrounded by all the great food vendors and in the middle a wide deep pen filled with some of the herbivores. I have a hard time remembering the names so I just reference them with ducky from the land before time. The ceiling was surrounded by stain glass you could see through to the next pen housing all the pre-historic birds flying around overhead. They did a damn good job with the modeling I just do not feel very safe with thin structures separating us with them. Ill just imagine the carnivores are more secure.
After the family got the reservations and hotel rooms taken care of I decided to take my brother out to do some more sightseeing. beyond the main building with the cafeteria there were buildings housing some more of the herbivores in between the stalls providing merchandise selling you as much as they could about the herbivore. It was like that throughout the entire section of the park with the occasional pit stop for food and games. Just like any old zoo at any old town. Was really hoping this would be a lot like Jurassic Park and see some really close up stuff.
"I bet the carnivore sections would be more interesting brandon" i said to my younger brother
"aww but greg I wanna see the hippo show" he jumped up and down in anticipation
I assumed it was a goofy kids show with a dinosaur that was all the way across the park. I really didn't wanna go see it though so I told him about the free ice cream from the vendors which he bought so I could just relax back inside the cafeteria out of the sun. I could tell this was going to be a really average trip. There was a big door on the opposite side of the herbivore exit labeled carnivores. Maybe I could see something be eaten, but it looked like they were having trouble cause it was closed off. I was so bored I just had to see something interesting by the time this event ended. Sneaking my way over to the door I realized that the security in this place was non existent. They must be having extreme problems then I thought to myself as I wormed my way beneath the caution tape.
It was quiet throughout the large dark tunnel. I held out my phone so I could get in some light noticing that the tunnel ran underwater possibly a lake. It ran for a bit before branching off to the different exhibits. Coming out from the ground to the left I was hoping to see something anything, how could they not have this exhibit up and running by now and were is everybody. I went into the large cave area housing to even more stalls and merchandise. "geez this place is definetly a shitshow" i said stopping in my tracks finding a curious red substance on the floor in front of me. Shining my light at the ground revealed a streak that looked alot like blood. My heart skipped a beat as I heard the shutter doors behind me start to close. Rushing over as it slammed shut I banged furiously on the steel door. "hey let me out of here!" Cursing under my breathe I pressed on into the tunnel. " no you totally wont get murdered in the dark death tunnel". This was just like a horror movie. No reception on my phone no peope around and no way out.
Mumbling to myself and my feet getting sore I sat down against the cold cave wall. Looking around to see only signs pointing either forward or back, I wasn't going to give up in some place that may not get done for awhile and this was still at least more interesting than being back in the lame herbivore side. I got up and continued my journey for a few feet before finding a half cracked door leading into a room. Poking my head in there were tons of medical supplies and chemicals. In the further back It looked like experiments and dinosaur eggs. " I get the feeling like I shouldn't have come this way but" I said slowly entering the darkened room. There must be a landline to call for help somewhere in the room. There was nothing at al. This must have been one of the places they grew dinosaurs.
A snarl echoed down the hallway behind the door I went through. Panicked I shut the door as a massive thud rammed into the metal throwing me back. " holy fuck what was that ". Racing to my feet I looked around the room for any kind of weapon as the banging continued. "shoulda stayed in the café". laughing nervously under the stress I found a large green container with a handle on the side. I held it in my hands ready for what was to come. Bang! the metal door was ripped down onto the floor with a large reptile walking right into the room. It was definitely bigger than I was. Standing on the balls of its feet with a large nail prodding up I could immediately tell that it was a velociraptor. Thick thighs, long tail, and a face snarling at me from across the room with razor sharp teeth. I held myself steady fearing for my life as it lunged at me. I was lucky enough to block its attack as its maw latched onto the container shattering it almost immediately tossing it aside. I was covered in the stuff the stench was just unbearable like a bad sandwich left in the fridge for far too long. But before I could try and get away the raptors teeth painfully dug their way into my arm. Screaming out I lashed at my attacker. Punching and kicking while it swung me around so easily. Bang! a sudden shock blasted over me and the raptor fell to the floor.
I pried my arm free from its mouth relieved looking over to see a group of peope armed to the teeth with guns and sticks. "holy crap thank you so much-" They shot at my feet as I tried to approach them. "What the hell were you thinking?" the lead officer asked me. All I could do was stare until I realized everything was getting much darker than usual and then I collapsed to the hard floor growing tired and soon passing out. Yelling and screaming were the only sounds I could hear. Flashing red lights and people running for their lives are all I could see until after what seemed to be a very long nap I awoke laying on the floor with a large bandage on my arm and a heavy green coat around my body. There were alot of people around me looking at monitors and checking their guns. " Are you doing alright?" the female officer asked.
"My name is greg" I said holding my injured arm in my hand.
"Well greg ya just made the dumbest decision of your life." she said "Our dinosaurs have gotten loose and have overrun the whole facility. Your lucky to be alive".
She gets up with a look of disappointment and returns to looking over the maintenance map with her squad. I felt like an idiot if I just stayed put I wouldn't be in this situation. The park was apparently overrun so I don't know if I would still even be here. Struggling to get to my feet and walking around the room I found out that this was the security force. Once of the rexes broke down one of the fences so they closed it all off in hopes to contain it. It broke down more areas unleashing the other carnivores so they had to fall back. This is just like Jurassic park but at least no one is gone just yet. These guys were good at their jobs.
As a group we hobbled from room to room still within the cave. We met slim resistance from some of the smaller carnivores, but they easily stunned them and we moved on. We sooner reached a clearing with a large forest in front of us. A large station on the outer side which we decided to camp in for the night. It was a facility used for communication with the other branches of the park. Luckily not too many people have been seriously injured even my family was still holding out. I could relax well knowing everything was going to be ok, at least until I felt a sudden itch under my coat. I went into one of the backrooms by myself to undo the bandage. To my surprise my wounds were healing nicely but I noticed something was off. It was really itchy so I rubbed on it a bit and some skin came off. Horror struck me hard as I saw dark green scales from beneath my skin. I shut my eyes to keep myself calm hoping this was all still a dream but no It wasn't. What the heck was happening to me.
I tucked my arm back into my coat assuming it was just the side effect of the green ooze that splashed me. I have enough problems right now to worry about. The security force had whipped up a plan to connect the satellite with another. The more the better. I don't pay too much attention to all the commotion as we leave the safety of the building out into the wild. Mile after Mile we trekked hearing the distant roars of a T-rex and other larger carnivores. I stopped to catch my breath on a tree realizing that everything was getting colder, but the sun was out shining bright. The itching was getting worse I could feel it in my sleeves. After a few minutes we all stopped inside of the burger spots. Running to the bathroom as fast as I could slamming the door shut I vomited into the toilet. I then fell over clutching my arm removing my coat and itching furiously against my skin. Soon the entirety of my arm was covered in scales. I yell out as sharp nails protruded out from my fingertips. The women busting down the door ran over to assist me. She told me to stay calm but how could I. Moments later I could feel a sharp pain in my neck. "There that should slow it down" one of the science officers injected me with a syringe before being hauled off by a few other officers.
Soon after the incident I managed to slip my coat on and sit upright. I Discovered that the green gel was suppose to revive the dinosaurs but never intended for this I was always good at eavesdropping. They said something along the lines of slowing it down but I could feel it inside me, creeping down my body. After a whole plate of food though I did feel a bit better. However the hunger did not go away. After a couple hours of setting up a new base everyone drifted to sleep. Not me though the hunger was just too much. I snuck down into the food supply and found nothing but raw meat, possibly form dinosaurs. My tongue pallet must have dulled from all the pain cause I scarfed down two raw slabs of meat. I wasn't thinking just needed this somehow. maybe to protect the new friends I made or maybe just instinct swarming in my head. I was turning into a velociraptor and it wasn't stopping! I had to get back to the lab and find out if a cure was in there somewhere
