#62 of Scrapped Content

Warning: A darker piece.

Relatively short but was in a very bad place when I wrote. I still think isn't terrible, so figured I'd share.

Did have series in mind while writing, left vague enough for reader to fill in.

Ending

The sound of battle was far away from him. Nearby lay a sword, one he had held in his hand at one point. Not quite the way it was suppose to be at least. A wince crossed his face as he tried to suck in another breath. Air hurt his chest. A pool of liquid was coating his back. Was it water? No, water was not sticky. Or warm. Thinking hurt. He felt heavy. Blinking was hard too. Even after doing so, his vision wavered. He felt sick but not. Just laying there, the liquid creeping further along his backside ever so slowly. It was on his chest too. Was it dripping on him?

Then faces and bodies appeared in his gaze. He blinked again, focusing harder on them. He felt his face shift into a lazy grin. It was his brothers and sisters! There was not a word he knew to speak his glee at seeing them. Though, they looked sad. Water came from their eyes. Tears? Crying was not a concept he understood so well right now. Why were they sad? He should ask. His breath rasped in his throat and his mind side tracked his question.

"I...do good?" He tasted metal when he spoke.

The scruffy one, seeming to look older, wiped his hand over his eyes. "Aye lad, ye did good."

A coldness entered into his limbs. It was so hard to move now. Each breath was an ache as his sight turned dark around the edges. He still felt more content after hearing those far away word. Why so far? His brother was so close to him.

"Mmmmm sleepy." It was mumbled. Near his ear, he heard humming. It was nice, his sister singing to him. No words, just gentle and soothing. A hand was running through his hair. Hard to tell, it was such a distant feeling.

"Get some sleep, lad. Ye earned it." The voice cracked in the middle somewhere. Still, it was nice to know he could just sleep. He just lay his head on the ground, eyes closing and being swept away into darkness. Listening to the sounds of humming and his heartbeat. Slowly they faded as he fell into a dreamless oblivion.
