#1 of Lore

So I wanted to get something written and posted for this month so here have a creation myth for my world Saffron. I'll probably type up a story behind this story later and put in a journal. But yes, enjoy this weird lore stuff.

Also this is a more thorough version of an earlier posted story longer-time readers might remember.

There are many beginnings of the world, and this is one of them. At first there were the two. The light and dark, the land and the sky, the cat and dog. The two swapped which was which depending on their mood. From them came the thirteen. The first pantheon.

The thirteen ruled over the formless and lifeless expanse of the world. All was well, and all was ruin.

Then came Sam.

Sam was not of the two nor of the thirteen. Sam came from the worlds beyond.

Sam roamed the world walking across the land that was not land, breathing air that was not air. Sam wandered the formless wasteland seeking what they did not know.

The thirteen watched Sam, seeking to understand Sam. For Sam was something they had not seen, for indeed they had not seen anything before.

After a great time, that was no time at all for the world was still timeless, the one now called Clove was the first to speak to Sam. "Who are you?" Clove asked.

"Oh, uh, hello. I'm Sam," Sam replied.

"Sam." "Sam." "Sam." The name echoed among the thirteen.

"From where do you come, Sam?" asked the one now called Peppercorn.

"I'm from another world," Sam said.

"What is your world like?" asked the one now called Cardamom.

"Oh, it's much different than this. There's a sun and moon, grass and trees, animals, oceans and rivers," Sam continued to name the things of Sam's world, and the thirteen grew jealous of that world, wanting what the other world had. So they took the ideas from Sam's head and made them abound.

The sun named Oak warmed the world, the moon named Vanilla lighted its new night along with countless stars. The land split into oceans and rivers, and great mountains rose high. Verdant fields and forests sprung up in parts of the world, and barren sandy deserts and icy frozen wastelands in others. Creatures of all sorts roamed the ground and seas and skies.

"Wow, this is really nice," Sam said of their work. "But it'd be better with some people."

"What are people?" asked the one now called Cinnamon.

"You know, people. Like me. There's the humans. They were the first, at least where I came from. Then they made furries, first as art. Those are like animals crossed with humans. Then taurs which are sort of half-and-half."

The thirteen spent many years, for they had since added time to the world, trying to understand people as Sam described them. They created the angels and demons and monsters as they made their attempts. They could not create people of their own.

So they opened the gates of their world, seeking to find from where Sam had come and call over the folk of Sam's world. And there they succeeded. The peoples came from Sam's world and others. The humans, the furry folk, the taurs.

The thirteen laid the rules for breeding such that the furry folk might mate with each other and produce new people but not change their underlying nature.

And the people filled the world. And Sam was happy with it. And the thirteen were happy.

The thirteen then divided the world into thirteen nations ruled from thirteen cities. Each gathered their favorites among the species of the furry folk.

Clove favored the cats, and Cardamom the dogs. Nutmeg took the weasels and badgers, while Cumin claimed the rabbits. Peppercorn took the skunks as favorites, and Cinnamon the mice and squirrels. Sorrel loved the hyenas and aardwolves, Anise the deer and antelope, and Baylaurel the otters and pinipeds. Myrrh adored the bats, and Salt took the many of those species who had but a few members whom had found their way to the world.

It is lost to time what species Pimenta loved, for that was lost when Pimenta shattered.

And Saffron, the beautiful, tried to love them all. For she could not choose among them.

The humans would not be pinned down as a favorite of one of the thirteen and so wandered among the thirteen cities everywhere.

The thirteen grew prideful of their cities and nations, and envious of the others. Anise coveted the great libraries of Cardamom, Cardamom desired the serene lakes of Nutmeg. All loathed and envied the grand museums of Saffron.

And so they turned their cities and populations to armies, and went to war with each other.

The rivers and lakes filled with blood of the slain, and Death could not keep up.

Saffron cried for out for the loss of life and the destruction of the great cities. She and Sam made a plan. The other twelve were each invited to her city to be declared God Emperor. But with the aid of the two, the Cat and the Dog, they were instead trapped in spheres of crystal and cast into the heavens. There they were forced to wander in sight of the world they lost, and the first pantheon became known as The Wanderers.

Saffron was gifted dominion of the world, and the world was named Saffron in her honor. And she fell into a deep slumber, and the peoples of the world went on to rebuild the world to be their own.
