New Beginnings

Luckily Chad came to the dock too late to see the two of them lock lips and hips, but Pete and Zeke were still busted for swimming without a lifeguard, even if they tried to justify it by saying they were only in meter of water. It didn't matter. They were closely guarded, and sentenced to being stuck in their cabin for the day's free time.

It sounded much more like prison than it actually was. No one was actually posted at the cabin to keep them in; it was just that if they were seen outside their sentences would probably be extended. Luckily, they still were able to eat at breakfast with everyone else, so Pete was able to tell Porter-and consequently Tommy-an abbreviated account of the morning's details. In short, he was unsure about whether or not they would still make the trip into town today (most likely not). Pete was quick to change the day to tomorrow.

All this was done with Zeke's previous go-ahead, since that just felt necessary considering the morning's details and how their relationship was in a changing point. During breakfast Zeke went to "work some things out with Mathe."

Pete didn't know what came over Zeke-what brought the transition-but he had time in the makeshift prison of the cabin to find out.

They were playing a game of cards curled up on Zeke's bunk when the ram finally broke through the silence, "I'm not... I know I sprung this whole thing up suddenly, so I'm not going to stand in the way of your fun with Porter."

"I'm not going to do anything to ruin of friendship, and what might unfold between us," Pete acknowledged.

"No, no, no. I know you were trying to have some fun with him, but I know it is only that."

"You sure nothing will transpire between me and him? I mean, if I do get with him, it'll be a big step: I don't think he thinks of himself in that way."

"All the more luck to you," Zeke said, putting down a card. "Don't worry, I'm not going to pine away for you, I plan on having some fun with Mathe."

"How long have you felt this way for me?"

"Haven't you felt it?"

"We're best friends with occasional benefits: it's a short lateral move to being a couple, so yea, I have thought about it, but I figured if it was going to happen it would have happened, you know?"

"Well, it's happening, at least to me it is."

"Why now? What changed?"

"I did," the ram said soberly, tipping his head down to break eye contact. "I don't want to get into details now, but being with Mathe made me realize how special our relationship is and how great it can be, that's all. I don't want to lose it, but I want to solidify it, make it strong, make it last forever."

"Well, if you still want to hang out with Mathe, the experience couldn't have been that bad, huh?"

Zeke smiled, "Yea."

"After you go and spill your emotions out like that, I'll feel bad about still trying to get into that pup's pants..."

"No, no, don't," Zeke regained eye contact. "I want you to be happy, and I know that all you want is sex. I'm not going to stop you. 'What happens at camp stays at camp' and all. Don't feel bad."

"Maybe."

They finished their game of cards and just sat on the bed for an uncomfortable amount of time before Zeke continued, "Who do you think Chad is banging?"

"What?"

"Who do you think Chad is fucking?"

"That's an out-of-the-blue question if I've ever heard one."

"Think about it: he's a sexy lion in his prime stuck in a world where he is the supervision. And, besides, why else would be up and around that early in the morning if it wasn't for him sneaking from cabin to cabin?"

"Interesting. Who do you figure it is?"

"That kangaroo chick, if I had to take a guess." Zeke perked up, exclaiming, "Hey, how would you feel if I tried to fuck Chad?"

Pete laughed, "If we're going to be in an open relationship-at least while at camp-I say go for it: all the power to ya."

The ram smiled brightly and gave his bunny lover a great, meaty hug, punctuating it with a hearty smooch. The embrace didn't last long, though; the intoxication of lust that was ever present in the morning had been removed with their sticky sobering releases. Now they were scared of being caught. Still, Pete wanted to let Zeke rest assure that he was fully open to them getting into a romantic relationship, so he let a paw rest on the top of the ram's upper thigh, allowing his index finger go into the crux at the top of the leg while his thumb gentle rubbed the fabric that was fortunate enough to rest on Zeke's inner thigh.

Even though Zeke had declared it open season for the exploration of other furs during camp, Pete still felt bad about trying to seduce Porter. Pete was sure it stemmed from the body differences in the two. Porter was this cute, slender little fur, while Zeke had a penchant for long afternoons playing video games, eating Doritos, and drinking Mountain Dew. He wasn't fat, and Pete never even thought of him in any remote fashion overweight, but he did have a gut on him, a little pot. It was nice to lay your head on and all, and the bunny never considered Zeke's physical appearance off putting, but, at the same time, you wouldn't find it in any magazines. To but it short, Porter had a heart-breaker body, while Zeke was plain.

Pete never even considered it anything to think about until now.

Maybe it was getting serious.

The rest of the time in prison was spent in useless conversations, games of cards, and quick bouts of intimacy. They were still skitterish, so they reserved themselves to quick kisses and touches. Chad came and relieved them for lunch, and informed them that their term of punishment was up, and they were free to run amok the camp like there was no tomorrow.

At lunch in the lodge, Pete sidled up to next to Porter, while Zeke made a beeline for Chad's table. Pete wasted no time, "Who's in for the trip into town after this?"

"After what?" Tommy asked.

"Lunch, of course."

A tingle ripped through Pete's spine-and settling, with some shame, his in loins-as Porter responded with a mouthful of beans, "Sure thing!"

The bunny couldn't keep his smirk down, so he had to smother it in food. He was getting closer to the pup, cramming months of jovial friendship into just a few days. But the real question still remained: could he get into the dog's shorts?

Pete did not see Zeke leave the lodge, but he noticed Chad didn't go with him, which was a shame. If Zeke was able to have his fun, then it would make this whole endeavor easier to complete without thinking about their new relationship. Or the changing details of the relationship, that is.

Together, Porter, Tommy, and Pete simply walked off the camp and onto the windy mountain road. Keeping to within the confines of the camp was really an honor systems approach to security. They never had an issue before, so why should they make pains to curb the thought?

When they got to the parking lot, Pete gave instructions, "Okay, we need to be careful here. We're still in the counselors' view, but outside the camp. We need to stay in the shadows of these trees, make sure the roads clear, and then make a break for the other side."

Sure, he was being full of it, but it was all part of the game. He needed to make the illusion of an adventure.

Once the traffic cleared, the three of them bolted across the street and scuttled along the ditch that substituted as a shoulder at the side of the road. It was a ten minute walk into town, but with the adrenaline pumping they did it in five.

"Okay, now what?" Porter inquired.

"Now we have some fun," Pete said, "but first, ice cream!"

Pete knew a nice little soft serve joint off the main street, and that's where they headed. Of course, they did end up popping into a couple of stores on the way, and spent a good hour exploring an Army Navy store. By the time they got to the shop it was practically time to head back for dinner.

"You've got to try the black raspberry," Pete said as he stepped up to the open windowed shack and placed his order, letting the cute young lioness know that Porter and Tommy would be on his bill, as well. She had that kind of body that would turn a good man straight, so Pete gave her a little wink.

Porter got the black raspberry like the bunny suggested, but Tommy went for the double chocolate cone. They licked at their cones as they walked back along the ditch to the camp. All in all, Pete was more than a little disappointed with how the outing had come to pass. Sure, Porter thanked him for the ice cream, but the bunny would have much rather put some ice cream on the dog and licked him instead.

They made it back to the camp without being missed, and just in time for dinner. They made for the table Zeke and Mathe were already seated at.

"How was your day," Zeke asked.

"Was awesome to get out of the camp for the afternoon, especially since being confined to the cabin in the morning, you?"

"Pretty good. Found out Chad's fucking that sweet lioness," the ram said. Mathe gave him a little look before scooting a little closer to Zeke. Pete wasn't sure, but he also thought that the lizard put a hand on the ram's cock. The bunny socked himself that he wasn't jealous. He even gave himself a little mental pat on the back for being so mature.

"What are you guys doing after dinner?" Tommy asked.

"Zeke and I are going for a walk," Mathe was quick to respond, "you?"

"I was thinking of heading to the game room."

Mathe just nodded.

Before dinner officially ended, the ram and lizard went off on their own, while Tommy, Porter, and Pete waited until after desert to get a game of ping pong going. The night was fun, but romantically uneventful for the bunny.

At lights out, Pete was left to lie awake over an empty bunk, mind fluttering with questions. What did he really want? He wasn't jealous of Mathe, or was he? At first, no, but now...he didn't know. Was he just jealous that Zeke was actually getting some action with his playmate, or was there something more in it?

The bunny found himself with tears in his eyes so he rolled to face the wall. But there was no wall, there was a window. He opened the curtain and gazed out at the camp, letting the tears roll down his cheek.

For the first time in years he found himself with that unfortunately familiar self hatred outlining his mind. He pinched his eyes closed and forced himself to sleep before Zeke made it back.

The next morning the bunny woke up with eye crust covering his lashes, practically gluing his eye lids closed. He pulled at the crust, not caring about yanking out eyelashes.

Zeke was back in bed, fast asleep with an oddly worried look on his face. Pete sighed and slowly and carefully climbed down his bunk, making sure not to wake up anyone, especially the ram.

Outside, Pete didn't even make it to the lake, choosing instead to sit on a rustic bench on the side of the main walking trail. The air had a crisp chill to it that only hours away from the sun can accomplish. Only after letting in a deep inhale did Pete realize he was still only in his boxers.

He let out the breath in a sigh, glad that he wasn't sporting any wood this morning. He looked around self consciously to see if anyone noticed him out there. Just his luck, Pete noticed Audrey, a rather sweet lanky weasel, staring at him from the closest girl's cabin window. She gave him a shy smirk, and he couldn't help but return the favor. She put a paw up to her mouth as she giggled and turned away from the window.

Pete got up and headed back to his cabin, wishing that Porter would giggle that easily. Or Zeke would make sense. Something told the bunny that life could be easier.

Pete went through the morning in a funk, talking very little and barely touching his breakfast. After the meal, he pulled Porter aside to speak with him alone.

"I need to talk to you," the bunny began. He let in a deep breath and let it go, "This isn't easy for me, and I'm fairly certain I'm just going to embarrass the both of us and in any case ruin our friendship. I like you. Like you, like you. I'm of that persuasion."

"So...what does this mean?" Porter looked confused, but at the same time a little intrigued.

"It means I would be lying if I said I didn't want to see you naked."

The pup gave a sideways glance, "Like, you want to suck my dick?"

"If you would let me, I would in a second."

"Would I have to do anything?"

"Not if you didn't want to. I would ask nothing in return."

"I...I don't know. I'm sorry, but I just don't think of guys in that way." A pause. "Let me think about it, okay?"

"That's more than I thought I would get."

"I got that," the dog brought a paw up to face height and wiggled his fingers, "vibe from your friend, you know, but you? Not so much."

"Yea, Zeke's been acting all tootie-fruity over that lizard lately."

A silence stood between them as Porter starred at his feet. Just when the bunny was going to take his leave, the terrier spoke up, "Yea, okay."

The bunny's ears perked up, "Is that a 'yes'?"

The pup let out a little smile, "Yea, I mean..." He trailed off.

"You sure?"

"As long as you don't ever mention it to Tommy, then, yes," Porter leaned in closer. "You're a cool guy, and while this isn't my thing, so to speak, we're probably never going to see each other ever again after we get on our buses, so..."

"...So we've got to take advantage of our time together."

Porter laughed, "That sounds so," he wiggled the fingers of his paw again. "Let's just say you're a good friend, and this would be my only opportunity to experiment with you."

"Sounds good."

They agreed to wait until the next morning to begin the experiment. Porter wanted to make sure they did the research in a secluded place where no one would spot them, so Pete suggested taking a canoe out to the far bay in the lake. It was almost completely secluded, and the dense vegetation popping out of the water made sure no one would venture out that way in a boat. Also, the bunny really wanted to do it in a canoe.

Pete's stomach was fluttering; he couldn't wait to find out what the near future held.
