Katherine had dressed again now that her fur was dry and was fretting over her appearance in the mirror on her wall. She chewed her lip uncertainly, holding a brush in one hand and trying to decide if her shoulder length hair was just right yet. Some part of her knew that it didn't matter; her brother wouldn't make up his mind about her depending on whether or not she was having a bad hair day. She was just stalling because she was nervous. Running through all her prepared lines in her head, Katherine looked at the clock. It was already three in the afternoon, and she hadn't seen Sam since breakfast. What if he had left? Maybe she would just have to put it off for another day anyway.

Taking a moment to steady her trembling limbs, and stop her twitching tail by force, Katherine closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Everything was ready now. She had put on the pair of jeans that best showed off her hips and her favorite shirt, a pink tank top that showed off her well shaped arms and shoulders. She had always loved playing sports (she was on the track team at school and played basketball and tennis with her friends often), and it had had a definite positive effect on her looks. Katherine took a moment to admire herself in the mirror. She wasn't vain, in fact she always felt inferior compared to the other girls in school, but she couldn't help thinking that she looked good.

If only Sam thinks so too, Katherine thought as she hesitantly made her way out into the hall and tiptoed to her brother's room. She knocked softly, and then a little louder when there was no answer. The doorknob was unlocked so she opened it up to peek inside. Sam was asleep, sprawled face up on his bed with one arm hanging off the edge. Moving quietly to the bed, Katherine called his name but he didn't wake up. Sighing, she sat down heavily on the foot of the bed, but that didn't wake him either. She had worked up her courage, fixed herself up and he was just going to sleep through it. She buried her face in the blankets and groaned in distress.

Just as she was getting up to leave, Katherine noticed the bruise on his face again. Sitting back onto the bed, she crawled over to his face to look closer. It was hard to see under his fur, but it looked like the mark was turning an ugly purple color. Frowning, she gently traced one of the black stripes that intersected it. His fur is so soft, she thought, cupping his cheek. Before she knew it, Katherine was leaning forward, her hear racing. Just one kiss, while he's still sleeping, then I'll wake him up.

Almost. Almost. His lips were so close. She closed her eyes, her breath catching in her throat. Her heart felt like it was going to burst from her chest...

Sam opened his eyes slowly when he felt the weight shift on his bed. He stared up at Katherine's descending lips for a second, frozen, and then frantically pushed her away. "Katherine!" She yelled as she fell back, landing on her side. She stared at him with wide eyes as he pushed himself to a sitting position, her expression terrified.

"I...I..." She stammered helplessly, scrambling off the bed, before burying her face in her hands. Her shoulders began shaking, her tail curling around herself, and Sam rubbed his forearm with one hand.

"Come here," he murmured, taking her arm gently and pulling her down beside him. "Don't cry, it's all right. I'm not mad." He put his arm around her shoulders and held her to his side. "You're such a crybaby," he whispered as he rubbed her back.

"I- I'm sorry," Katherine mumbled, wiping away tears. "I didn't mean to. I j-just wanted to talk, a-and you were asleep, and...and..." She covered her face with her hands again, her tail curled around her middle.

"It's all right, calm down," Sam said reassuringly. "I'm not upset, don't worry." He pulled away from her to snatch a box of tissues off of his nightstand and settled back down in front of her. He moved her hands into her lap lightly and carefully wiped away her tears with a tissue, cleaning her cheeks as well, then gave the box to her.

"Th-thanks," Katherine mumbled before blowing her nose, her eyes never leaving her lap. "I'm sorry," she said again. "B-but I couldn't stop myself, b-because...because..." She took a deep breath before continuing. "Because I love you."

Sam sighed and leaned back on his hands. "I know," he said softly.

Katherine shook her head and wiped at her eyes again. "No, not because you're my brother. I love you more than that. I can't stop thinking about you. I...I'm in love with you." She began playing with her tail, refusing to look him in the face.

"I know," Sam repeated, staring at his own lap.

Katherine's head jerked up and she gaped at him, openmouthed. "What? But, you didn't-"

"It can't work. We're brother and sister," Sam interjected quickly. He had been ready for this.

Katherine took a pillow and hugged it to her chest. "I know...but I still love you. D-don't you..." she trailed off, hugging the pillow tighter.

Sam looked away so that he couldn't see her face. "No," he said quietly.

"C-could you ever...?" she asked hesitantly, looking at his face desperately.

"No," he said again, forcing himself to look at her. "And it wouldn't matter if I did. We're siblings. You should just find someone else and forget about me."

"But...I can't. I'm in love with you," Katherine murmured, hiding her face in the pillow.

"Well I'm not in love with you," Sam whispered.

Katherine looked at him without saying anything, then stood up and left the room, closing the door behind her. Sam watched her leave in silence. He grabbed the pillow she had been holding on to and stared at it, then threw it at the wall angrily. He felt like screaming and hitting something. Throwing himself back down on his bed, he noticed the picture of him and his sister on the floor and picked it up, clutching it against his chest. God, but he hadn't been feeling well lately. Maybe if he slept a little longer he'd feel better...

Sam woke up a few hours later when his father was home and already cooking dinner, an event uncommon enough almost to be considered a special occasion. He tried to tell Katherine, but her door was locked and she wouldn't answer, so he told their dad she wasn't feeling well. Sam attempted to talk with his father about his drinking like planned, but he just said that he didn't want to talk about it and went to bed. Sam tried once again to talk to Katherine, but she was either asleep or refused to answer, so he gave up. He tied to entertain himself in his room, but couldn't manage to focus on anything and eventually fell asleep with the television on.

Sam woke up again late at night and glanced at the clock. It was only a little after midnight. Sighing heavily, he cursed at himself for sleeping so much during the day. It took him a second to realize that something was wrong, and he sat up to look around. The tv, he realized. It's off. And the door's open. His father wouldn't be up this late, so it must have been Katherine. Smoothing his sleep rumpled clothing, he left his room and went to check on her.

He knocked on her door but there was no answer, so he tried the doorknob. Since it was unlocked he opened it a crack to look in. She wasn't inside. Frowning, he looked toward the bathroom, but the lights were off there as well. Leaving the door open, Sam headed downstairs. It was dark there as well, and he turned on the lights, thinking he might find her in the living room, having fallen asleep after watching television on the big, family tv. It was empty, as was the dining room and kitchen. Just as he was going to get his phone to call her, he thought he heard a noise, and paused. There was a noise, and it sounded like it was coming from the garage, which was attached to the kitchen.

Sam approached the door uncertainly. What could she be doing in the garage? And was that sound from the car? He opened the door and froze, his mind going blank. The garage door was closed and his car was running. Katherine was sitting in the driver's seat, unconscious. Carbon monoxide poisoning, the logical part of his mind said, while the rest of him was rooted to the ground.

Sam suddenly realized he was just standing there and jumped forward, jerking the car door open and turning it off. Grabbing Katherine, he hauled her out of the car and carried her into the house. He wasn't very strong and his arms were trembling by the time he got inside, but adrenalin helped him get her to the couch and he set her down as gently as he could.

"Come on, Katherine, wake up. Please wake up," Sam pleaded, shaking her by the shoulders. He placed his hand over her mouth and almost screamed in joy when he found that she was still breathing. He felt tears slipping down his cheeks and wiped them away angrily. "Wake up..."

I've got to call an ambulance, he thought, standing up. Should've called one already. Idiot! He started to turn away and something caught his wrist. He looked down to find Katherine holding his arm, her eyes barely open.

"Don't leave me," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes.

Sam dropped to his knees and pulled her into a fierce hug. "I'll never leave you," he murmured, holding her tight. "I promise. I love you, Katherine."

Katherine sniffled and pulled back. "What?" she asked, rubbing at her eyes.

Sam picked her up again and started up the stairs, ignoring the strain it caused. "I love you. More than anything else in the world. I always have."

"You mean as a sister?" Katherine asked quietly as he pushed open the door to her room.

"Yes, but more than that," Sam said as he settled her onto her bed. "I'm in love with you." Katherine's eyes widened and her mouth opened soundlessly. "Why were you trying to kill yourself?" he asked before she said anything.

Katherine curled up with her back to him. "You said I should stop loving you, but I couldn't. I couldn't stop thinking about you. And I knew....I knew that one day you'd leave me, just like...like mom did," she finished in a whisper.

Sam sighed and rubbed her back. "Mom didn't leave you, Kat, and neither will I," he assured her.

Katherine tensed under his hand. "Why did you say you didn't love me?" she asked in a hoarse voice.

Sam moved to sit on the edge of her bed and stroked her arm tenderly. "Because I wanted you to move on and forget about me. We're siblings, it can't work out. I wanted you to find someone else."

Katherine turned onto her back to look up at him. "Could you just move on and forget about me?" she asked, staring into his eyes.

Sam smiled sadly and brushed a strand of hair away from her face. "I've been trying to move on for about ten years," he admitted. "Ever since we were kids. It's not that easy."

Katherine reached up and touched his cheek gently. "I don't care that we're siblings," she murmured.

Sam covered her hand with his and sighed again, leaning down to kiss her lightly. When he straightened up, she was staring at him in surprise. "I don't care either," he finally admitted to himself. "And I'll never leave you."

"Will you stay with me tonight?" she asked. "I don't want to be alone."

"Of course," Sam said, settling down beside her and pulling her to him. "Whenever you want." Katherine snuggled closer and pressed her face into his chest; he could feel the impression of her glasses against him, but didn't complain. Sam frowned and looked down when he felt a damp spot on his shirt. "You're such a crybaby," he laughed, nuzzling her pointed ears.

"I can't help it, I'm so happy," Katherine giggled, putting her arms around him in return. She grew silent and then looked up at him thoughtfully. "You were crying when I woke up."

"So?" Sam asked, staring at the ceiling.

"I've never seen you cry before," she said. "Even when we were little."

Sam smiled down at her, stroking her hair."You were always so busy crying, I figured one of us had to be strong," he told her. "Besides, you did all my crying for me. Every time something happened to me, you'd start crying."

"You're mean," she mumbled into his chest with a smile. "I couldn't help it. But you cried today."

"Because I never thought I'd lose you before," he said with a shrug. "I figured I'd be the one to go first."

"Don't joke about that," Katherine muttered, pinching his side and smiling when he yelped.

"Stop that," Sam growled playfully, turning over and pinning her on her back by her shoulders. He smiled suddenly and lowered his head to kiss her, letting his lips linger on hers for a few seconds. "You're so beautiful."

"I-I'm not," she protested, looking away and blushing, then gasping when he started kissing her neck. "S-Sam!"

"I can't help it," Sam murmured, nuzzling her neck. "I've wanted you for so long. I can't wait anymore."

Katherine bit her lip and closed her eyes. "I..I know. Me too." Turning her head, she pressed her lips against his, kissing him deeply. She moaned quietly as their tongues slid across each other, face flushing in embarrassment, and grabbed his shirt, pulling it up and over his head when the kiss ended.

Sam took hold of her tank top and looked into her eyes. "Are you sure?" he asked quietly. Katherine nodded her approval and he lifted the top up. The cloth slipped from his hands down to the floor, but he didn't notice. He stared down at her exposed body with a look bordering on amazement. "You're so beautiful." Her stomach was lean and toned; the fur perfectly white and incredibly soft. He leaned down and began spreading kisses across her front, slowly moving upward. Katherine moaned again, her hands moving to slide down his back while he removed her bra with a little difficulty.

She closed her eyes, ashamed, as he tossed the bra aside as well. "They're getting bigger," she mumbled uncomfortably, but Sam just leaned down to kiss her again.

"They're perfect," he assured her, caressing her small A cup breasts, marveling at how soft they were; how cute her nipples were. Sam squeezed the tiny mounds, watching Katherine's face contort in pleasure. Unsure of what he was doing, he squeezed her left nipple lightly, rolling it between his fingers. Katherine bit back another moan, thrusting her breasts up against his hands. He bent down and took one pink nub into his mouth, sucking on it gently, enjoying hearing her soft cries. God she's so beautiful, he thought, sitting up and staring into her eyes. "Are you sure?" he asked again.

Katherine nodded, running her hands across his chest. "I want you." Sam unbuttoned her jeans and slid them off slowly, admiring her body. He ran his hands up her legs little by little, hesitating nervously when his fingers reached her cute white cotton panties. Katherine smiled at him and reached up to cup his cheek. "It's my first time."

"Mine too," Sam laughed self-consciously, carefully taking off her panties. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. His sister was lying naked in front of him. It was like one his many dreams. "You're so beautiful," he repeated.

"I'm not!" Katherine protested, covering her chest again. "I look like a little girl, not a woman," she grumbled.

"You look perfect," Sam told her, gently separating her legs and lowering himself to examine her slit, her pink lips almost covered by her white fur. The first girl he ever saw naked, and it was his sister. Reaching out one finger, he ran it along her uncertainly and was gratified to hear a stifled moan. Smiling, he leaned closer and gave her a long, slow lick.

Katherine was embarrassed when Sam touched her down there, and nearly bit her own tongue when he licked her, her entire body arching off of the bed. She whimpered helplessly as he began to lick deeper, his tongue pressing inside of her. She clawed at the sheets, feeling the pressure inside of her building, knowing she was close. "Sam...Sam..." she moaned over and over again, closing her eyes in bliss.

Sam smiled wider as he dove deeper into her pussy, holding her hips to keep her still. She tasted so good he wasn't sure he would have stopped if she had asked him. Her juices had already soaked into his cheeks and chin and around her crotch. Suddenly, she grabbed his head, holding him against her as she trembled and cried out wordlessly. When she finally finished, she collapses breathlessly onto her back, panting loudly. "Shh!" he hissed, trying not to laugh at the exhausted look on her face. "You'll wake dad up."

Katherine covered her face in horror, mumbling apologies and curling up into a ball. Sam chuckled quietly and lay down behind her, putting his arm around her and pulling her to his chest. "Can...can we stop for now?" she asked timidly. "I'm sorry. I know I'm being selfish," she muttered. "B-but after everything that happened..."

Sam kissed her on the head and nuzzled her ears. "It's all right, I understand. Just rest for now," he whispered. Inside he was torn between being incredibly turned on and his natural instincts to comfort and protect his sister. He carefully removed her glasses and set them aside, pulling up the covers.

"Will you be here when I wake up?" Katherine asked quietly while Sam turned off the light.

"Of course," Sam replied simply. "From now on, I'll always be here when you wake up. I promise."

"Thank you Sam," she mumbled sleepily.

"You don't have to thank me for that. Oh and Katherine?"

"Yeah?"

"You taste really good."

"Sam!" Katherine buried her face in a pillow and Sam laughed, holding her tighter against himself and kissing the back of her neck.

I just wanted to make one note in case there was a misunderstanding about the carbon monoxide poisoning. Katherine had not passed out from asphyxiation when Sam found her; she had only been in the car for a few minutes, having gone to sleep immediately after turning the car on. If she had been that far along, merely shaking her would not be enough, as it would mean that the carbon monoxide had replaced enough oxygen in her body to disrupt brain function. And yes, Sam should have called 911 regardless, but he's a fictional character in a lot of stress. Cut him some slack. Also, I didn't tag the story with suicide because it was only an attempt and not really seen anyway, but I'm still not 100%. If you think the story needs a warning, pm me about it.
