The Last Goodbye

By P

Kailee kept her head low to the ground as she trudged through the

soft, November sunshine. She watched her shadow, shortened by the

nearly-noonday sun, bob and dip over the soft reeds and grasses of the

marshland, sometimes rising up almost her knees in the whispering reeds by

the river's edge, other times dipping away to hide beneath her feet on the

sandy stretches of hard-packed earth and saw-grass as she approached the

forest's edge. Her backpack, friend of these many adolescent years, was a

leaden weight on her back, chafing her shoulder blades uncomfortably.

Her feet found the path of their own will, taking up from the lowlands

into the Colorado foothills behind the residential neighborhood in which

she had grown up. Cicadas sang their soft, familiar song in the grass on

either side of the trail, seeming somehow to shepherd her along the steep

trail, hidden as they were in the lush, cool greenness of the surrounding

trees. Here was one turn. There the same fallen log she had lightly

stepped over a hundred, a thousand times in her youth. And now the rock,

the one that she always imagined looked like a turtle, marked the final

turn for her. She pushed through the dense underbrush on the side of the

trail and emerged, blinking, into the sunlight.

It has always been her special place. When she was much younger she

had found this place quite by accident, and had been instantly entranced by

it's quiet beauty. It was her own secret place within the forest.

Completely surrounded by trees, the tiny clearing was as quiet as the soft

sky above, broken only in the center by a smooth, flat rock. She

remembered lying back on that rock though endless summer days, watching the

clouds chase themselves through the little slice of sky that she could see

through the canopy of leaves above, traveling off towards their secret

destinations.

Whenever her big brother had teased her about her new pair of glasses,

she had run here to escape him. When her parent's anger and distrust with

each other had boiled over from the confines of their bedroom to spill over

into the kitchen nook in the first 'public' display of the problems that

would soon end their family and their home, she had run here, escaping.

When a certain boy she had watched with young, budding love in high school

had shown up at the freshman prom with her so-called 'best friend' she had

escaped here. To meet with her only comfort,Rishi.

But that was so long ago.. She was a grown woman now, all of 24 with

one foot firmly planted in the sticky mire of adulthood, the other still

dancing on the dew-wet grass of her youth.. Soon she would be standing

upon the unsafe ground of loyalty, responsibility, and Paying The Bills On

Time. She was already leaning that way. Her career had taken off like a

gunshot from the moment she had left college, and if she played her cards

right she could make junior partner in the law firm in about 7 years....

But maybe one more chance, she thought, I at least owe him a good-bye.

Kailee shrugged out of her backpack...one of the few remnants she had

of her time here in the Rocky Mountains, and sat cross-legged on the flat

rock in the middle of the clearing. She began to unpack the picnic lunch

that she had brought setting the sandwiches and the thermos of tomato soup

out on the flat rock before her. She sat cross-legged on the rock and

ate in silence....waiting...

She was finished now, preparing to go. She gathered up all the trash

and wrappers from her lunch and stood up, stretching. She cleared her

throat softly, the noise too-loud in the hushed forest stillness. "I know

you're there." she said into the forest. "I know that you've been

watching."

The forest swallowed her words whole, giving nothing back in return.

"This is it." she said, doubt beginning to cloud her voice. "I'm

leaving...and I won't be coming back." She sniffed. "Gone. For good. I

thought, maybe...." she trailed off, uncertain...

"...don't....go..." rumbled a voice in the underbrush.

Kailee held perfectly still. "Ransi?" she asked hopefully.

And there he was, creeping out from underneath the dense bushes on all

fours, eyes glimmering. Ransi approached her warily, scaled tail twitching

behind him. He was none other than a red forrest-dragon, his

diamond-shaped scales lying flat along his broad back, dappled with

sunshine. His muscular hind legs bunched as he raised up, towering nearly

ten feet in the air over her. His wings drooped uselessly along his back,

thin and nearly translucent, shot through with sparkles of gold. Just as

she had remembered him. "...you...Kailee?" the dragon growled hopefully,

his amber eyes blinking.

Kailee smiled, slowly standing up on the rock. "I've come back,

Ransi." she near-whispered. "But only for a little while."

Ransi regarded her for a moment with depthless, unblinking eyes.

"Kailee is...bigger...." he growled simply. She had spent endless summers

trying to teach the dragon a good command of the human language, and this

was the closest he had ever come. He was a huge towering dragon with the

vocabulary and speech patterns of a seven-year-old.

"Yes, I have grown up a little, Ransi." She moved to stroke his snout

softly with her hand. "When we first met I was a younger..girl. Now I'm an

adult." With adult problems, she added with an interior sigh.

Ransi bobbed his head, understanding. A sudden gust of wind shook the

leaves in the clearing, and the soft shadows became softer still as the sun

slipped behind a few dark gray clouds in the sky. Kailee looked up, for

the first time noticing that it looked like...

"Rain." Ransi rumbled, wide nostrils flaring as he took in the scents

carried on the sharpening fall breeze. "Rain soon, Kailee."

"Damn." she muttered. She had hoped to at least spend at least one

more golden afternoon with her lifelong friend before she had to go. But

fat, huge drops were already beginning to fall from the sky, leaving

dime-sized dark circles on the ground. "I'm sorry," she said, to herself

and to the dragon. "I never should have come back. I...I can't stay." It

was beginning to rain even harder now, the forest sighing with the patter

of thousands of drops on thousands of leaves.

Ransi snuffed sadly, the closest that he could come to a human sigh.

He slowly lifted his iridescent wings, arching them over her, protecting

her from the mounting torrent of water. "Stay. Kailee stay....please?"

Kailee felt her heart swell with love as she stepped into the shelter

of her friend's huge wings. She hugged him fiercely, the rain streaming

down her cheeks mixing with her hot tears. She couldn't leave Ransi. Not

ever. She'd forgotten as she grew up, but being here with him made her

remember how his just being there had somehow filled her up inside. She

pressed her damp cheek against his scaled one, "I won't go yet. I love

you, Ransi." she murmured.

Ransi pressed himself against her, purring deep in his chest. He

placed his fore claws on her shoulders, pushing her softly backwards to lay

against the rock. She lay back, relaxing, enjoying the little tent that he

had made for the both of them out of his arched wings. He nuzzled her

neck, nostrils flaring as he took in her scent. "Kailee...older?" the

dragon growled softly, snuffing at her hair.

An instant before he did it, Kailee realized what Ransi was going to

do. His long red tongue, almost as wide as her hand, lashed out softly and

licked at her belly, rucking up her tee shirt a bit. He had tried this

once before, a thousand summers ago when she was only 12. She had been a

little confused, thinking that he was just trying to tickle her. It tickled

her now, and she giggled. But there was something else beneath the

giggle. Ransi licked again, his tongue tracing across the bare flesh of

her midriff and she sighed a bit, feeling herself flush. He was trying to

come on to her!

"Ransi...." she whispered, unsure of what to say next. She looked

down herself to see the dragon cocking his head to the side as he rubbed

his cheek along her stomach, his eyes peering questioningly, hopefully into

hers. She knew that he was smart enough to know that she was going for

good. Maybe this was their last chance. A last chance to be together.

When he had done this to her when she was young, he had stopped after

a while, somehow sensing that she was a youngster of her species. But he

wasn't stopping this time...and Kailee didn't think she was going to try

and stop him. She had always known that this was what she wanted...and

what he wanted too. She raised her shirt up a little more, cupping the

underside of his snout and guiding it to her pert, upturned breasts.

Ransi's tongue traced slowly up her belly and slid softly over her

right nipple, completely covering it in his warm, wet saliva. She shivered

a little, moans nearly inaudible over the crashing rain. She ran her hands

lovingly over his snout and ears as he lapped at her exposed breasts,

breath pluming out over her, warming her. "Please....don't stop...." she

mewed softly.

She realized after a while that Ransi's huge, powerful fore-claws were

tugging gently, ineffectually, at her jeans. She leaned forward, pushing

her breasts against his wonderful serpent's tongue, and shooed his clumsy

claws away. She undid her button and zipper and then lay back again,

wrapping her arms around the dragon's snout as he licked at her tightening

nipples. "Okay..." she whispered to him. "I did the hard part, Ransi. Go

ahead...."

"Is...ok, Kailee?" rumbled the dragon, craning his neck to look down

at her. His eyes were soft and full of love. "Ransi not hurt."

"I'ts more than okay," she said slowly. "I love you."

Ransi's claws delicately slipped inside the waistband of her jeans,

hooking them and her panties. He slowly drew them down her thighs,

exposing the soft, furry vee of her pubic hair. He lowered his snout,

snuffing her down there carefully. She felt his hot breath against her

vagina for a moment, and then his tongue as he tasted of her female

sweetness. She shivered a little and cried out as she felt his warm tongue

first moisten her, then penetrate her interior. Ransi looked up at her,

brows furrowed a bit at her cries, and she spoke softly, reassuring him

that nothing was wrong...that he wasn't hurting Kailee. At all.

Ransi's licking became more subtle, his flexible tongue exploring her

fully as she gasped and shuddered beneath him. He began to unconsciously

hunch forward with every lick, his huge, scaled body beginning to become

aroused by her soft, urgent whimpers. She looked up into his huge,

depthless eyes, but they weren't meeting hers. The dragon was beginning to

be consumed by his own mating instincts, ones that had lain dormant for

years. She lay back instead, stroking his ears as he brought her

closer...ever closer to release.

The huge dragon's lapping became more heated, more urgent, his whole

body rocking back and forth now as his hindquarters bunched up and thrust

blindly forward at the air. Finally he could take no more. With something

approaching a roar he reared up, placing his powerful for-claws on either

side of her shoulders, and pushed himself against her clumsily, trying to

mount her as he would a female dragon.. She felt his warm, pulsing organ

first slide up her left thigh, and then across her belly in an aborted

attempt. She reached between them and gently grabbed his maleness, trying

to guide the heated dragon home. Merely holding him in her hand made the

huge dragon begin to buck, his slippery staff pistoning through her fist as

he blindly tried to mate with her hand. "Shhh..." she called softly,

trying to calm him down, "Go easy, Ransi...."

"....can't..." the dragon huffed, his intelligence dissolving before

his animal instincts,"...Ransi want...." the rest was just mewls and

growls, his heated thrusting never slowing against her hand. She did the

best she could to guide him down into her, looking up at him as he towered

over her. He was looking back, eyes half-lidded, tongue hanging limply

from the corner of his snout. One of his thrusts hit her wet and open

vaginal lips, the next one brought him deep inside of her. She felt his

huge staff slide deep into her, plumbing her to the very bottom. There was

a quick, light *slap* against her upturned ass-cheeks as he drove himself

fully home. She cried out at his fullness, twitching a little as she felt

the first waves of an orgasm begin to wash over her.

"MMMmmohhhh...Ransi..." she whimpered, wrapping her hands around the stout,

muscular posts of his forelegs to brace herself against the onslaught.

Ransi mated with her hard and quick; rocking up against her with

incredible force behind each stroke, withdrawing only a few inches or so,

and then rocking forward again. In only a few seconds she knew that she

was sopping wet down there and headed towards another orgasm. The dragon

was panting harshly above her, his thrusts never slowing in tempo, fully

dominating her. She rode him the best she could, trying to hump back at

him to meet his thrusts, but it was no use. She felt another wave of

pleasure building deep within her, and she closed her eyes, moaning softly

up at her lover.

In the end it was very sudden. Ransi's thrusts became uneven,

eventually degenerating into mindless animal bucking...and then he locked

up against her, his every muscle taut with tension for one dizzying moment,

and came deep inside her, his swollen head bumping up against her cervix as

he pulsed his seed deep into her. He roared, and underneath him Kailee did

her best to roar back, moaning gutturally as she wrapped her legs around

his tail, holding him there for one sweet, blissful moment. It had all

been worth it, she thought as a final wave of pleasure swept over her. She

would never say good bye to Ransi.
