#9 of Werefox's Dillema

Needed a bit more dream stuff to help tie in the developing plot but couldn't find a good way to just do full-on dream sequence again. And yeah, a bit of a rough interrogation

When I regain consciousness I'm almost surprised that that I'm still alive at all. I do seem to be in some sort of restraint. I tug my arms against it, feeling my arm stopped and the sound of metal clanging against metal. I moan at the pain, reminding me of what all had happened. I opened my eyes and took a look at my surroundings. I seem to be in a large room. One way glass seems to surround every wall, the entire place in a dark slate color, making my red fur stand out all the more. I'm obviously in some sort of interrogation room, my hands bound in metal cuffs that are connected to the metal table. I still seem to be naked, not garbed in any sort of clothing though there are thick cloth wrappings surrounding my chest around my wound, meaning they did decide to heal me though they aren't letting me go.

I'm certainly not free to leave of my free will. And somewhat annoyed at how they didn't even try to preserve any sense of modesty on me. But since no one seems to be in any hurry to speak with me and since they've obviously sewn my wound shut I have plenty of time to try and reflect on what has happened in the past few weeks. Every night I have noticed I have had pretty much the same dream over and over again. In fact it wasn't until I was shot that I even really noticed this fact. There is a lot of things that have happened and each one has variations but all go along with a particular theme. They all start like a normal dream just like any other but gets interrupted with a sensation of something watching me. I cannot really tell all that much about what all is going on when it starts to watch or how long it's been watching. Things take a more surreal role in all of them when it happens. One thing for certain is that it isn't something pleasant and when looking at it song is always completely terrified, as if that one thing is scarier than anything that could be ever imagined.

It is a strange thing to find something watching having an impact on something else in my dreams. It goes even beyond a sense of duality as it pretty much goes to the extent of me and song being two completely different entities entirely, as if we are two people sharing one consciousness, each with their own ambitions and thoughts on everything. I cannot make out anything of the figure watching me but song is terrified beyond belief of it. And it is in the calm of trying to figure this out in reflection that I can really begin to understand it. In none of my dreams is the thing ever all that interested in me. In fact far more often than not it seems like it doesn't even realize that I'm even here. The only one it ever seems to react to is song. And yet it doesn't really seem that impressive to me. It doesn't even feel like it is actually looking at anything.

It is far more like it is a statute watching me. That first time I saw the eye it looked real enough, as if it was actually trying to find song. Every time after it is far more like it is simply just a statue, a facsimile of a real thing that is there more for the threat of being there rather than actually being there. One top of that there are so many inconsistencies in how it behaves. And yet even despite that it feels like something that is a mimicry of a real thing.

Another thing I realized is why it was that she was attacked. She wanted to write an article about me. There are so many things I did not even think of that she asked and I could not provide, including how it was that I could transform. But one thing that is apparent is the notion that it was a direct result of me talking to her that she was targeted. Though I have not seen others of my kind there is an inevitability that more exist. I know more exist. I cannot find them from smell because when human they'd smell human and when in animal form they'd smell completely human. But the fact that she probably hit on so many things I do know of someone else would know exactly where I am. Whether it was an attempt to take me out of the picture or just get me to shut up I don't know. But it was someone trying to get my attention. They might have even arranged for the police to arrive shortly after I arrived. I wasn't paying too much attention as to what was going on with my surroundings, too at ease with the surroundings to know any better, to keep my senses sharp. It'd be a simple matter to post a single scout and watch the entrances, waiting for me to go in before calling the police.

The biggest question then is if the government are the ones that wanted me caught, others like me or a third party. I'm shocked out of my thoughts as the door opens up, A couple of military officers step in, letting me know that obviously it's not the local police that are handling me. Though whether or not they were the ones healing me I cannot say. One of them sits down in front of me with a briefcase that he places on the table. He stares at a moment before beginning to speak.

"You've been very busy lately, haven't you?"

"Want lawyer," I comment, knowing that legally I should still have rights.

"We have been tracking you for quite a while now. Multiple counts of vandalism, robbery, assault. But someone of your appearance obviously has to be getting their information on who to target and who to sell everything to. Not to mention all the people who have been knowingly harboring a fugitive."

"Want lawyer," I repeat, pulling at the chains again briefly with the motion before looking down and remembering how I have no sense of modesty as I am. "And clothes."

"I don't think you're in any position to be making demands. Last I checked animals are not allowed to wear clothing," one of the military officers state while moving behind me.

I turn, trying to take a look at what he's doing but cannot turn far enough with my bindings. I grunt in pain in response to stretching what I'm guessing would be the stitches to my bullet wound.

"Not aninal. Want lawyer." I shout, slamming my hands against the table.

The soldier behind me slams my head into the table, making my head soar and ring out in pain, my head dizzy and the world spinning again, especially after it had only just started to get back to normal after waking up after having just passed out from blood loss who knows how long ago it was.

"You'll get only what we allow you to have," he leans down as I try and cradle my head with my arms as best I can as he leans down and presses against the back side of my wound, causing me to scream in pain. After a moment he lets go but the pain endures for a few minutes. He grabs me sharply by one of my ears, craning my neck towards him. "You tell us everything we want and maybe, just maybe we'll let you live. If not no one will care if we deal with a simple monster." With that he throws my head back against the table before stepping back again.

The other soldier continues sitting in his chair. "We want information from you, nothing more. We won't be asking you to betray your fellow monsters. But as my companion has stated there is no risk of any backlash from you never seeing another day. You have no name and no one has issued any missing persons for you so no one cares that you're alive or not. Besides we don't really have to do anything. All we have to do is re-open that wound of yours and let you bleed out. Considering how close you were to death when we found you I'm sure that loss of blood would be enough to do you in permanently. Now, are you going to cooperate or are we going to have to force our point on you yet again."

I grit my teeth and cower in my chair, trying to make myself as small as possible and wishing for something to happen to get me out of here. Even Song is terrified of the situation, remaining almost completely quiet for this entire interchange. I can hear the song in the background of my mind so I know that it is awake but clearly doesn't want control. If anything I'd almost relish the idea of handing over my control to someone else just to not be here but I'm just as aware as song is that to do so would make things worse. I can be reasoned with. They likely don't know the exact specifics of my condition so they'll probably kill me if I change. Not to mention since I haven't had too much experience in the matter I don't know how well the stitches would hold up if I transformed.

Not knowing what else to do I decide to cooperate, hoping the fact that except for the pastor I haven't been helped by anyone. Well besides Elizabeth as well but they'd know I was around her residence and I never asked that pastor's name so I couldn't provide his name to them either.

"I steak," I comment, my whole body slouching down in defeat, wishing beyond anything a means to obey my instincts to run and find somewhere safe to hide.

"Excellent. Now for protocol what is your name?" the soldier on the other side of the table smiles briefly before opening up his briefcase and pulling out a packet and a pen. He clicks the pen and begins scribbling on one of the papers, though what I cannot tell.

"I an called Other."

"No, that will not do," the soldier across from table shakes his head. "We need your real name, the one you were born with."

"I cannot say it. Ny nouth no work well enuth," I comment, hoping that that will be enough for them to leave that matter well enough alone. Last thing I would want is for them to go arresting and treating my family in such a manner, even if I haven't seen them in so many months.

"Well then you can write it, can you not?" the soldier turns the pen towards me, offering it to me.

I look at the pen briefly before lifting my hands and looking at them. There are pads along my fingers and palm. Though a month ago I probably could have still written my name down with some discomfort and cramping if I wrote too long with all of the times that the song stole my body to go play with that other fox lately I doubt I could even do that anymore.

"No," I sigh, "I cannot write it."

"Well then," the soldier behind me leans in and presses against my stomach, digging into the wound and causing the bindings to start to build a small patch of red, "you'll just have to spell it out for us, now won't you?"

I cry out from the pain even after he lets go, my breathing heavy as I try to deal with the situation in front of me. I blink a few times, trying to clear myself of the pain. Thankfully I can heal faster than humans so I should still be all right. The wound wasn't completely opened up so I'll be able to handle it and close it of my own body's abilities within a little while, assuming they don't make it worse. Though there will be the issue of infection. I have a nice good and strong immune system, further supplemented by my body's ability to regenerate as little as it does but I can still get sick.

"Careful, Joe. We need this one awake enough to be able to answer us. We can't get anything if they're dead or unconscious. Besides, you don't want to force a transformation by accident, do you?"

The other soldier scoffs at the notion and grabs the fur at the back of my neck, pulling my head back up towards him. "I'm not treating you too harshly, am I fluffy?"

He pushes my head back forwards but steps back a few feet. I can hear that he's moved himself far enough away to no longer be within easy reach of me. I resist smirking at the fact that technically him messing around with my wounds are more likely to make him like me than if I transformed and attacked him. Though the bindings are still absorbing most of my blood, traces of it likely have transferred to his hands. If he touches his hands to his mouth then it'll get inside him. Not likely enough to turn him from that little exposure but if he keeps at it he might end up getting too much on him to fight off.

I wait for my head to stop swimming in the pain, hiding my smile as a moan in pain, curling over as hard as I can to try and will my wound to shut faster. The song actually seems to get an idea as I can feel a sense of warm around where my wound is, though the rest of me feels slightly colder as a result and I cannot hear song as clearly as I can. My head nods back and forth as my world spins even more.

"See, you went too far," the soldier across from me slams his pen against the table, his voice taking an annoyed tone as he raises an arm and snaps his fingers in front of me a few times. "Hey, don't you be falling asleep on me now. I'm not done with you."

I shake my head as best I can as I try to retain consciousness. I don't know what Song is doing but it is helping to reduce the pain from my wound, though definitely seems to be rather draining. But I cannot afford to go black now. I'm pretty sure that that would be the end of me. At the very least I wouldn't be able to protect myself in any regard if I did that. I shake myself a few times, shaking my eyes a bit more, my ears lying flat against my head as I force myself awake. Just as I have managed to re-stabilize myself I hear sounds outside the door. My ears perk up and face the door and a second later a voice comes from the briefcase.
