Our little story begins in a small forest near a mountain range ...

It was a nice and warm morning in spring, the birds were already chirping and the insects buzzing. In a nearby cave not too far from a small river you could hear a loud snorting ... coming from a dragon who was still sleeping. His name is Sandy and he's a feral dragon with black and midnight-blue scales. He was laying in his self-made bed in a corner of his cave and dreaming about flying with other dragons and playing games with them. Sandy smiled in his sleep and rolled onto his side then moved his tail over the ground. Suddenly there was a loud crashing sound.

Something interrupted his peaceful dream as another dragon landed in this forest not to far away from his cave. Sandy awoke from his slumber and yawned loudly then stretched his limbs and snorted. He got up and walked to the cave entrance to have a look at what woke him from his dream then sniffed and growled. There was an unfamiliar scent ... of another male dragon in his territory.

Sandy found this forest and his cave a few years ago, since then he lived in this forest and it was always peaceful. He didn't have to fight for it or hurt another creature, there was no other dragon ... until now. He thought about getting back to sleep, but that wasn't a good idea and he knew it.

He decided to look for the unknown dragon and see why he had landed in his forest, maybe the other dragon didn't notice that this was his territory or he wanted to take this forest for his own. The scent was getting stronger with each step he made, the other dragon had to be near the river as Sandy could already hear the flowing water. He was thinking about how he should react to the other dragon and what should he do if the dragon wasn't up for a nice conversation. Sandy wasn't helpless and could defend himself, but he didn't like to hurt other creatures.

When he followed the scent of the dragon he could hear a loud whimper, was the other dragon hurt and needed to rest here or was it just a trap for someone stupid enough to follow the noise. He wanted to talk to the other dragon, but he knew that he has to be careful because he didn't know anything about the intruder. He got closer to the river and tried to make no sounds so he could see what dragon got into his territory before the other dragon could see him. He moved between some trees and bushes to hide himself then he could hear the whimpering again.

Sandy jumped behind some nearby bushes and made sure that his body was out of sight then poked his snout out of the bush and looked at the small river. He didn't have to search for long ... the other dragon was a little bit smaller than himself and had dark red scales with some splotches across his body. He was taking a bath in the river to clean his scales and Sandy was right ... the other dragon was hurt. He could see some bruises and cuts at the red dragons hinds, wings and tail.

He watched the other dragon and his actions a few minutes. The red dragon suddenly looked at his position like he knew he wasn't alone anymore. Sandy didn't notice that the direction of the wind had changed, but the other dragon had. Sandy forgot about the wind which got his scent to the red dragon and he wanted to snarl at himself for his stupidity and carelessness.

The red dragon got up and walked out of the water then growled at Sandy's direction and spoke. "Come out and show yourself ... don't sneak up on me and try to get an advantage of the situation". Sandy thought about this a moment then decided to show himself since he didn't want to give the other dragon a reason to attack him. The red dragon got no patience and spoke again, this time with a more aggressive undertone in his voice. "I said get where I can see you ... now".

Sandy took a step out of the bushes and looked at the other dragon then spoke to him. "I can see that you are hurt, so please calm down. I just want to talk with you". The red dragon just looked at him and spread his wings to look more intimidating then whimpered because of his injuries. "Don't tell me what to do ... leave me alone". Sandy looked at him and took a few steps closer to the dragon. "I can help you". The other dragon just bared his fangs and snarled at him. "Don't come any closer or you will regret it". The red dragon sat down after that and looked into the water.

The other dragon was hurt and quite upset, but Sandy wanted to help him. He hesitated for a moment then took another step towards the red dragon. The dragon in front of him growled and thrashed his tail on the ground. Sandy tried to look less threatening and lay down in front of the dragon. The red dragon looked at him with a threatening glare and snorted loudly.

Sandy crawled a bit forward and pushed his snout against the other dragon's paw then said. "I am not going to hurt you nor will I leave you alone". The red dragon just looked at Sandy and pulled his paw away from his snout. "Why should you want to help me ... we don't know each other".

This last sentence ... the red dragon wasn't dangerous. He was just hurt and in need for a friend. "We can change that if you want. My name is Sandfire, but you can call me Sandy". He said and smiled at the red dragon. The other dragon just looked at him and then at the water again. What was the red dragon thinking about and why didn't he want someone to help him, Sandy thought.

Sandy got up and pushed his paw against the other dragons shoulder then asked another question to get the red dragon's attention. "Who are you and what are you doing in this forest ?" The red dragon just snarled and pulled his shoulder away from Sandy's paw then whimpered. "Why do you want to know this and why should I tell you ?"

"This is my forest ..." Sandy said and sat down right in front of the red dragon. The other dragon kept looking down and snorted. This time Sandy snarled and thrashed his tail on the ground. "You dumb scale-tail ... I want to help you". The other dragon looked at him and started to back away slowly. Sandy could see that the red dragon was shivering and wanted to say something, but he was quite surprised about this behavior since the red dragon seemed to be quite aggressive and annoyed.

The red dragon suddenly turned around and tried to run away then slipped and fell onto his side. Sandy gasped loudly and jumped next to him then pushed his snout against him. "I am sorry ... I didn't want to scare you". The red dragon just whimpered loudly and started to cry.

Sandy lay down next to the red dragon and put his wing over him then licked at his snout. "I really want to help you". The other dragon looked at him and then nodded. Sandy got up then started to lick at some bruises and cuts of the red dragon. "My saliva can heal wounds ... this should help you to feel better soon". The red dragon whimpered softly, but did nothing to stop him.

It was getting late and Sandy was still at the river with the red dragon next to him. He had cleaned the bruises and cuts of the other dragon with his tongue and was now keeping him company. Finally the red dragon talked again. "My name is Nyrax ... if you still want to know".

Sandy looked at him and smiled. "Of course ... how did you got here and what happened to you ?" He could see that Nyrax was almost crying again. "That's a long story ..." Sandy got up and stretched his limbs then looked at the red dragon. "It's getting dark already ... we should go to my cave, there you can rest properly". He said then noticed something else, a tree at the other side of the small river. It was quite damaged with a lot of broken branches.

This must be where the noise was coming from Sandy thought. "Did you crash into that tree ..." Nyrax got up as well and looked at Sandy then blushed. "Yeah, I think so. I don't want to get you into trouble ..." he said then gasped softly as Sandy pulled at his paw with his tail. "I am not leaving you alone here ... besides you still have to answer some of my questions".

Nyrax agreed to follow Sandy to his cave because he was exhausted and Sandy insisted on it. That made Sandy quite happy because he would have some company and someone to talk to. "Alright we should go now" he said then started to walk between the trees and bushes with Nyrax behind him. Sandy looked back at the red dragon sometimes to make sure he was following him.

Then they arrived at Sandy's cave after a while and Nyrax sniffed around. "What's wrong ?" Sandy asked. The red dragon just looked at him and shook his head then followed Sandy into his cave. "Nothing ... just your scent, it's different than any other dragon I met so far". This made Sandy chuckle loudly. "I am a goo dragon ... maybe that's the difference". He said and went deeper into his cave then lay down on his self-made bed and looked at Nyrax.

Nyrax looked at him clearly interested and got closer to Sandy. "What's a goo dragon ?" he asked then gasped loudly as Sandy lifted his tail in front of his snout and his tail started to drip with black fluid. Sandy started to laugh loudly and wagged his dripping tail. Nyrax looked at the dripping tail, still not believing his eyes and said. "You can turn your tail into liquid ... that's interesting and a bit creepy too". Sandy shook his head and put his tail behind his body. "Not just my tail ... my whole body can be like that if I want to". He said and blushed slightly.

The red dragon was still standing in front of Sandy's bed and looked at the ground. Sandy looked at Nyrax and said. "Sorry ... hope you aren't disgusted". Nyrax shook his head and moved his tail over the ground. "I asked you about it ... it's my fault really". He said and looked at the cave walls. At this moment he could hear a loud yawning from Sandy which showed the red dragon a row of sharp fangs. Nyrax shuddered and poked Sandy's paw with his own.

"I am just not sure if I should sleep in your bed ..." he said. Sandy grabbed his paw softly and tugged on it. "I told you ... it's alright. The bed is big enough for both of us". Nyrax slowly got next to Sandy and sat down then smiled and said. "Alright, thank you for ... everything". Sandy chuckled and put his wing over the red dragon. "You should get some sleep ... scale-tail".

Both dragons fall asleep quickly. It was a quiet and peaceful night until Sandy could hear a whimper coming from the dragon next to him which woke him up. He turned around and looked at Nyrax. The red dragon was squirming and thrashing his tail then whimpered again like he was in pain. "What's wrong ..." Sandy asked, but the red dragon was still sleeping and didn't respond.

"No ... please don't ..." Nyrax said and rolled out of the bed. Sandy got up quickly and grabbed his the red dragon's paw then tried to wake him up. "You have to wake up ..." Sandy said and squeezed Nyrax's paw softly. The red dragon suddenly pulled his paw away from Sandy and lashed out with his claws. Sandy gasped and tried to back away from him, but stepped on Nyrax's tail.

When Nyrax awoke from his bad dream he was very scared and looked around then he looked at Sandy and whimpered loudly. He was standing next to him and looked quite worried about the red dragon then he noticed some claw marks across Sandy's snout. Nyrax started to cry and covered his snout with his wings. "I am so sorry ..." Sandy sat next to him and hugged him lovingly then said. "Everything's alright ... you had a bad dream".

Nyrax pulled his wings away and shook his head, tears running from his snout and he was shivering. "This wasn't just a dream ..." he said and tried to get up. Sandy pushed his snout against the red dragon and said. "You're safe here ... what are you doing ?" Nyrax looked at Sandy and gasped softly. He was lashing out in his sleep again and hit Sandy's snout with his claws. "I didn't want to hurt you ... I am so sorry". He said and pushed his snout against Sandy's chest.

Sandy wanted to calm down the red dragon and put his wings over him. "You didn't hurt me". He said and looked at Nyrax. "I am a goo dragon" he continued and smiled at the red dragon. Nyrax looked at Sandy's snout and shook his head. "The cuts are gone". Sandy licked at his snout to wipe the tears away. "See, nothing happened" he said and smiled at the red dragon.

"Do you want to tell me about your bad dream ?" Sandy asked and sat next to the red dragon, but Nyrax shook his head. "I should leave ..." he said and looked down. Sandy grabbed his paw and pulled the red dragon closer. "Why do you want to leave and where do you want to go at this hour ?" Nyrax didn't answer and kept looking down. "If you really want to go ... I will go too" Sandy said suddenly and thrashed his tail on the ground.

Nyrax looked at him and whimpered softly then looked at the bed and sighed. "You are right ..." Sandy nodded and helped the red dragon to the bed since he was still shivering. "We can talk at tomorrow, but you need to rest now". Both dragon's lay down again and looked at another until they were sleeping again. Sandy kept his wings on the red dragon and hugged him tightly, he was afraid that he could leave him alone. The whole situation was too much for Nyrax and Sandy knew that.

At the next morning Sandy was awake first and turned around in his bed, he bumped against the red dragon and smiled. He got up and stretched his limbs then nuzzled against Nyrax. "Hey, you have to get up it's already noon". He said and poked the red dragon softly. Nyrax opened his eyes and yawned then looked at Sandy. "What are you doing ?" He asked and blushed. Sandy looked at him and blushed too then took a step out of his bed. "I was just waking you up ..."

Nyrax got up and stretched too then looked at the direction of the cave entrance. Sandy looked at him and poked his snout then said. "We should eat something ... I am starving already". Nyrax wanted to say something, but his own stomach was growling too. He followed Sandy deeper into the cave until they got to a big wooden stump with a variety of fruits and vegetables on it.

Sandy looked at the red dragon and grinned. "I hope you don't mind them a bit overripe ..." he said and took some berries. Nyrax looked at him and smiled then said. "That's alright ... if they're still tasty". Sandy chuckled and grabbed some apples then hold them up to the red dragon. Nyrax looked at the apples, but didn't take them. "You can trust me. I am not going to poison you". Sandy said and grabbed a few apples himself then threw them into his maw and started chewing.

Nyrax looked at him and blushed then took the apples and started to eat some of them. "It's just ... you're so kind and now you're sharing your food with me". Sandy looked at him and smiled then said. "You're making it look like something special ... you're my guest". The red dragon looked at the apples and snorted softly. "For me it is". Sandy looked at Nyrax a little longer then grabbed some berries and hold them up to him. "You should try some of these ... they're quite tasty".

They sat down and continued to eat most of the fruits and vegetables as Nyrax's stomach growled again. Both dragons looked at each other and started laughing. "There's a small river nearby with some tasty fish ... if you're still hungry". Sandy said and poked Nyrax's belly with his tail. The red dragon blushed slightly and looked at the ground, but said nothing. "Do you want to catch some fish with me ?" Sandy asked suddenly and looked at the red dragon. Nyrax looked up at his new friend and nodded. "I'd like to catch some fish with you".

Sandy got up and pushed his snout against the red dragon. "Alright, let's go then". Nyrax gasped softly, but got up as well and followed Sandy back to the cave entrance. When they got outside of the cave, Sandy stopped and sniffed around. "What are you doing ?" Nyrax asked and looked at him. Sandy looked at the red dragon and blushed. "I am ... just checking if there's something off".

Nyrax still looked at him quite interested and wagged his tail. "Is there something off ?" Sandy shook his head and smiled at him. "No, everything's alright ... let's go and catch some fish". The red dragon followed Sandy this time side by side and he still looked at his new friend. Sandy noticed that Nyrax looked at him and grinned. "See something you like ... scale-tail ?" Nyrax gasped loudly and blushed extremely red then stopped and sat down next to a tree.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to look at you like that". He said softly and curled his tail around himself. Sandy sat next to him and grabbed his paw. "You did nothing wrong ... I was just teasing you". He said and looked at the red dragon then hugged him with his wing and continued. "Do you want to tell me about your bad dream or what happened to you?" Nyrax looked at Sandy and thought about it then pushed his snout against him and nodded.

"I am a fire dragon like you might have noticed ... but I can't use my fire breath. My family ... or at least my father and my two older brothers told me that I am worthless without it. I am dishonoring our family with my life and they abused and hurted me almost every day back in our cave". Sandy looked at the red dragon and started to sob. Nyrax rubbed his snout and continued.

"I wanted to flee and start a life of my own, with them unable to find me, but my two brothers found me, brought me back to their cave and punished me ... quite hard". Nyrax looked at the ground and moved his tail back and forth. Sandy couldn't hold his tears back any longer and started to cry. The red dragon hugged him and smiled at him. "It's alright ... I am fine now".

Sandy looked at him with tears still running down his snout. "How could they do such a thing ... to their own brother ..." Nyrax looked at the sky and snorted. "I don't know ... when our mother left my father ... everything changed, but not for the better". Sandy hugged the red dragon tightly and whimpered. "How did you get away from them ?"

Nyrax hold up his tail and Sandy looked at it then noticed several claw marks on it, some not even fully scarred. "Some days ago, there was a powerful storm at our cave ... at that evening my brothers had done something to me ... it was quite worse then everything else they had done to me. I didn't think they ... would be able to do something like that. That storm ... it was my last opportunity to be free ... so I ran out of the cave and jumped off the cliff then spread my wings and flew away as far as my wings could take me. I was hurt and exhausted, but I kept flying until my wings couldn't carry me anymore and I fell into this forest ... where you found me".

Sandy looked at the red dragon and whimpered. "I had no idea ... that explains those claw marks on your body and your behavior to other dragons ... you're such a nice dragon after all that happened to you". Nyrax grabbed Sandy's paw and tugged on it. "Stop crying and let's get us something to eat". Both dragons got up and continued their walk to the river to catch some fish. Sandy said nothing on their way, just looked at the red dragon and was thinking about where he wanted to go last night.

A short while later they got to the river and Nyrax looked at the water then back to Sandy. "How do we catch those fish ?" Sandy smiled at him and wagged his tail. "That's easy ... just look at me". He said and got closer to the water then inhaled deeply and breathed some ice at it. Nyrax got closer and sniffed at the frozen water. "You can breath ice ..." He said and looked at Sandy then gasped softly as he licked at his snout. "Be careful or you get a cold". Sandy said and laughed.

"You're a crazy dragon". Nyrax said and blushed then looked down. Sandy grabbed a big piece of the ice and ripped it off then another. "There's the fish ... just have to get it out of the ice now". He said and looked at the red dragon. Nyrax grinned back at him and looked into the piece of ice, with the fish in it. "I am not sure this is really easier that something else".

Sandy chuckled and grabbed a frozen fish then threw it to the red dragon. "It is fun and keeps the fish fresh for some time". Sandy said and grabbed another one. Nyrax helped Sandy to collect the frozen fish and snorted. "It's a shame that I can't breath fire ... to make the fish nice and crispy right here". Sandy looked at him and poked his paw. "I am sure you can breath fire ... soon and you will learn how to use your fire breath. I will help you". He said and smiled at the red dragon.

They grabbed the fish and put them next to a tree. "How do we get this back to the cave ?" Nyrax asked suddenly and looked at Sandy. "There's a way, but please don't be disgusted. I am a goo dragon ... so I can just swallow them and bring them back up later". Sandy said and blushed. The red dragon looked at him and chuckled. "Why am I not surprised ..." Nyrax said and grinned.

"You are alright with this ?" Sandy asked and wagged his tail. The red dragon looked at him and chuckled then got closer to him. "I am ... but I would like to have a look". Sandy sat down next to the tree and looked at him then blushed. He grabbed a fish, opened his maw and dropped it inside then swallowed it whole. Nyrax was standing next to him and looked at Sandy clearly interested in what he was doing. "You're going to have a belly ache ... with this frozen fish in your stomach". He said and grabbed some fish then hold them up to Sandy. "I've done this before ... don't worry. Do you want to help and drop them inside my maw ?" Sandy asked and grinned.

Nyrax dropped the other fish into Sandy's maw and wagged his tail then gasped as Sandy suddenly closed his maw around his paws. "What are you doing ... don't bite into my paws". Nyrax said then blushed as Sandy swallowed the fish and opened his maw again. The red dragon pulled his paws away and looked at them and grimaced. His paws were covered with gooey saliva. Sandy laughed and stuck his tongue out then said "I am just teasing my new friend ... you wanted a closer look".

The red dragon looked at him and shook his paws to get the saliva off. "That's not funny ... maybe a little bit". Nyrax said and chuckled then pushed his paws against Sandy's body. "Alright, we should go back now ... don't want the fish to thaw". Sandy said and poked his belly. Nyrax sniffed at Sandy's belly and nodded then said. "Don't you dare to digest the fish".

Sandy shook his head and got up. "Not going to happen ... don't worry". The red dragon looked at the other side of the river and snorted. I would like to come back at tomorrow and have a nice bath in the river then remove the damage I caused to that poor tree". Nyrax said. Sandy looked at the red dragon and smiled. "You like this place and nature it seems". He said and rubbed his snout against the red dragon. Nyrax looked at him and nodded. "Of course ... it's so peaceful here".

"Do you want to take the lead back to the cave ?" Sandy asked and looked at Nyrax. The red dragon smiled at Sandy and nodded. "I should know the way". He said and wagged his tail happily. "Let's get this fish back to my cave and eat something". Sandy said and followed the red dragon.

On their way back to the cave, Sandy looked at Nyrax and said. "You don't know where to go or sleep ... do you ?" The red dragon shook his head and sighed. "I would like to stay a day longer if you don't mind, but then I am just going to find myself a nice cave, far away from where I came from ... I guess". Sandy stopped and looked at Nyrax then slapped him with his tail playfully.

"You are coming with me ... back to my cave and you're staying with me". Nyrax gasped when Sandy slapped him then looked at him and blushed softly. "What ... are you talking about ?" Sandy just pushed his body against the red dragon and said. "You can stay with me. There's enough room for two dragons in my cave and this forest is too big for one dragon anyway".

Nyrax smiled and wagged his tail softly. "I would like to ... if you really want to share your territory with me. You're the first dragon I've met who's been nice and caring about me". Sandy put his wing over the red dragon and purred happily. "I insist on it and it was getting lonely without another dragon". Sandy said and grinned. They continued their way back to the cave side by side.

When they went into the cave, Nyrax looked at Sandy and poked his belly. "So how do we get our food back out ?" He asked. Sandy blushed then threw up the fish from his belly and spit it next to the wooden stump. The fish looked almost like before, it was just covered with some clear goo. "Now we just need a fire to make this crispy". Sandy said and grinned.

Nyrax looked down and whimpered. "I can't breath fire ..." he said and moved his tail back and forth. Sandy grabbed some wood from a pile then a glimmering red stone and put it under the wood. "I've told you ... it's not a problem". Sandy said and grabbed Nyrax's paw. The red dragon looked at the wood as suddenly a flame erupted from it. "How did you do that ?" Nyrax asked and looked at Sandy. "It's the red stone ... it ignites flammable material".

Sandy put the fish next to the fire and sat down. "Now we just have to wait a short moment". He said and looked at the red dragon. Nyrax sat down as well and sight. "Can I ask you a question ?" He said and looked into the fire. Sandy looked at the red dragon and smiled. "Just ask me ... I don't bite". Nyrax got closer to Sandy and poked his left hindleg. "You've got a scar at your thigh ... it almost looks like some claw marks that I have. I am just curious what happened to you if you don't mind telling me". The red dragon said and smiled at him.

"It's alright ... but sadly I can't remember how this happened". Sandy said then curled his tail around Nyrax. "I can tell you what I know, but not right now. Our food is ready ... nice and crispy". Sandy said and grabbed a fish then hold it up to the red dragon. Nyrax smiled and took the fish. "Thank you ... for everything." He said and took a big bite out of the fish.

They both started eating the fish they caught together. When they finished, Sandy got up and walked to his bed then lay down and looked at Nyrax. "Come on you dangerous beast. It's quite late already ..." he said and grinned. The red dragon got up from the fire and lay down next to Sandy then yawned. "What about the fire ?" Nyrax asked. Sandy looked at him and smiled. "It only lasts until the wood is gone". He said and snuggled against the red dragon.

Nyrax blushed and whimpered softly. "You're such a crazy dragon ... good night". Sandy chuckled and curled his tail around both of them then said. "Good night ... you scale-tail. I will never let someone hurt you again ..." Both dragons fall asleep shortly after, with a smile on their snouts.
