#5 of The Princess and The Knight
News of the dragon spread quickly throughout the country side as all the fuedal lords in the area as well as the castle demanded that all citizens take shelter within the walls of Schrade until the beast was dealt with. Saline was in council discussing the matters on repleneshing the crops that had recently been destroyed along with rebuilding the homes and farmlands that were ravaged as well.
"Half of the livestock and fields were devoured and on top of that my the beast has been reported to be a Rathalos."
A Rathalos was a deadly dragon that flew faster than any other in all of Gaia, other than its deadly fire breath it was packed with a lethal poison in its talons that could kill prey in minuetes if not treated and Saline began to worry as she rubbed her pregnant belly fearing for Bronns return.
At the sight where the dragon was spotted Bronn and a few of the royal guard found a freshly burnt field and a few carcasses of cows and other livestock, the men kept an eye on the sky fearing the beast might still be around while Bronn examined the area, after noticing a few tracks he noticed that they pointed to a nearby cliff just west of the farmlands and smirked knowing he figured out the location of the dragons lair.
They arrived at the mountain around sunset with the soldiers still looking up and listening for the sound of wings beating until Bronn found a pile of bones that were below a cave high above a cliff.
"Captain. Hide the horses, we'll camp here for the night."
As soon as camp was set up the men slept in for the night knowing that the dragon was far off probably on another hunt while the captain kept first watch. As the sun began to rise Bronn started to hear a faint beating noise as the horses began to startle, then it hit him as he jerked out of bed and grabbed his sword hearing the dragon crash onto the earth with a loud stomp before giving a bellowing roar.
"Hello beasty..."
The dragon went for the captain first as it swung its razor sharp tail cutting a tree in half, forcing the men to scatter while Bronn went right for its head cutting out one of the eyes before it bashed him away and took off into the air.
"GET TO THE HORSES!!"
The men dashed for their mounts as they grabbed their spears and arrows with Bronn leading the charge, the dragon was soon spotted heading for another farmland as it flew in lower ready to make an attack on the unsuspecting animals in the field as Bronn took out a bolla and moved alongside the dragon.
"Come on come on!.....THERE!!!"
The moment Bronn threw the bolla the dragons wing got caught and it crash landed right into the field as the men circled it. The moment the dragon broke free it fried one of the men as he charged it with his spear towards the chest leaving only five of them left, Bronn dismounted from his horse and took out a shield as he neared the beast slowly.
The two circled each other for a moment until the dragon blasted Bronn with a fire ball that was blocked by the shield leaving its throat completely exposed as two of the captains men plunged their spears into it cutting off its fire breating while Bronn rolled underneath it stabbing it in the chest, making it cry out in pain.
The dragon swayed to and fro for a moment before finally crashing on its side giving one last roar as Bronn got out from underneath its wing soaked in its blood, at first things were silent until the men let out a triumphant yell as Bronn raised his bloody sword in the bright sun and news of this soon reached the castle.
"My lady!!! Sir Bronn has returned!! and he's killed the dragon!!"
"Oh thank the goddess."
The moment Saline stepped out of the castle gates there stood Bronn all cleaned up with his new trophy next to him, the young queen greeted her mate with open arms, smiling with joy as he rubbed her belly.
"Oh thank goodness you're back."
"I'm fine. how are you and the baby?"
"Relieved now that you're here."
The dragons carcass was soon sold off on the market to help cover for the damages done to the farmlands, hours later Saline saw her husband shirtless once again but noticed a strange mark on his hand depicting a wyvern being impaled on a spear and instantly recognized it.
"Bronn you never told me you were a dragon slayer."
"Former dragon slayer, as soon as I drove of the last dragon into southern region I joined my father in the blacksmithing business but that was another life."
Saline smiled as Bronn held her cheek and gave her a quick peck before joining her downstairs for dinner with her brother Arbitus who was taking care of her while she was stil carrying the baby.
