#39 of All They Knew

Skye greeted her parents once she and Ruki got home after an hour-long cruise back to Hau'oli, told them how their day went-- minus her and Aaron's makeout session, and called Aaron afterward to let him know she and Ruki were home before getting ready for bed. Skye washed her hands and face for now. She'd shower tomorrow afternoon as she was far too tired tonight. "Sleepy?" Skye asked upon entering her room. Ruki was sitting on her bed, waiting patiently.

"Nine," he replied, a silent yawn following to confirm.

"Give me a sec." Skye slipped her pants and shirt off, then replaced her top with a casual white tee for bed, leaving her in matching panties and socks. Skye slightly parted her curtains to let in soft moonlight before turning off the light.

Ruki stood and walked to the bottom of the bed as she got on and watched her pull the new sky blue sheet and blanket down that her mother changed while they were away.

"Come," she told him, lying on her back and tapping her chest. Her legs were exhausted. She felt relief the moment she was still.

He gladly obeyed and made his way to her, slowly resting his chest and stomach atop of hers, his paws draped over her shoulders.

Skye reached her hands up and held his cheeks for a moment, then ran his ears between her fingers while he eyed her face. His body heat and fur warmed her instantly. She still felt so much love for Ruki. "I'm glad the day ended on a good note for us both."

He lowered his head and rested his cheek against hers for a moment, giving it a loving nuzzle.

Skye giggled quietly. "How quickly are you gonna grow on me? You have a date already." She snaked her arms around his neck. "She chose you, you know?"

Ruki felt his face slightly heat up from Skye talking about Vivi.

"Her trainer said she reads every poké's aura, and she must have liked yours especially, which is rare in her case... I'm not surprised, though. You're amazing." She pulled him closer and kissed him on his nose.

Ruki gave her cheek a loving lick in return, which never failed at making her smile. He personally was surprised Vivi took a liking to him. He barely had the confidence to speak to her, but she must have seen through him. Ruki didn't feel he had much to offer, but he wasn't complaining.

"You ready to sleep?" she spoke softly.

Ruki nodded, sliding himself off of Skye and lying beside her on his stomach, his chin resting on his paws.

"Love you," she whispered and pulled the blanket over both of them. Skye turned onto her side, hugging his body with her right arm and closing her eyes. She'd call Aaron tomorrow evening. Skye wasn't sure what to do with his remaining days, but it wouldn't end with their kiss.

Ruki closed his eyes as well, feeling her body softly pressed against his while stretching his aching paws. He couldn't be happier right now. Life was going very smoothly. Ruki hoped it would stay that way.

--

He awoke many hours later to Skye sitting back against the bed's headrest and watching the tv across the room at low volume. It felt early. The sun was barely present. Skye rarely watched television, so Ruki was curious. He sat up, the blanket slipping off of him as he stretched his hind legs.

"Hey." Skye looked at him once she noticed movement. She woke up earlier than usual. It was 7 a.m.

Ruki took a few steps and sat beside her at first, taking a minute to properly wake up.

She leaned over and placed a light kiss on his cheek, then turned off the TV using the remote next to her. "Just feeling kind of uncertain..."

Ruki eyed her intently. He was fine, but Skye obviously had something on her mind. Ruki knew she had for a while now, and he couldn't be his best if she wasn't.

"I mean, I'm not a child anymore. It brings me nerves, but I'm ready at the same time." Her eyes shot around for a moment. "I think I'll go for a casual life, you know? There's no way I can be a trainer... Ah, it gets overwhelming." Skye sighed and lied on her back by the bottom of the bed.

Ruki didn't know how he could be of assistance, but he was there for her. He walked down and lied beside her, resting his chin on her arm.

"I'll be fine. It's normal." She sighed. "I should talk to someone about it soon. Maybe it'll help," she said. "Besides, I'm doing great otherwise... You hungry?" Skye changed the subject.

He lifted his head and nodded. Ruki wasn't thinking about it until she asked, but he was always up to eat.

She sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Course' you are. Let me get dressed."

--

Skye kept on her top and slipped into a pair of comfy blue shorts, then was in the kitchen with Ruki and her mother after freshening up in the restroom.

"Morning, sweetheart, and Ruki," her mother said while sitting at the dining room table.

"Morning, mom." Skye sat across from her, and Ruki beside Skye's chair.

He missed sitting in Skye's lap, but that wasn't happening anymore. He didn't want to pull all his weight on her, anyway. Plus, it'd look odd.

"Where's dad?" Skye asked.

"I sent him and Ru out to get a few things from the store. I'm glad you're up before they're back, though."

"Why?"

Her mother grinned. "Well, I noticed you seemed a bit reserved when telling us about your day yesterday."

"I mean... you know I can't when dad is around. I can't really be myself," Skye said that timidly, even though he wasn't home.

"He can be a bit serious... maybe protective sometimes," her mother added. I reminded him of it before Aaron met us, and I think he did well. He tries. Why don't you find a few girlfriends to be yourself around?"

"Eh..." Skye lost contact with the few friends she had last year, her best friend lived in Sinnoh, and it'd now be much harder to make any at eighteen. "I guess I'll have to get lucky. I don't know where to start for that... not that I particularly want any now."

"It'll happen. You'll need more than just a boyfriend in life, though. I'll tell you that," Skye's mother said.

She slightly grinned. "Ah... I know. Ruki helps me out in that department a lot, though, dont'cha?" Skye glanced at him.

He gave a few quick nods with erect ears. Ruki tried his best. Skye was his best friend among much else. He couldn't speak, but that never held their bond back.
