#1 of Spyro's Growing Up.

Hello, I say! It's been a while, and I must say that I did miss the writing. Again, if you are under eighteen *cough* lock your door *cough*,you aren't allowed to read the following masterpiece. If you are, then happy pawing!

(By the way, Spyro and Co. are not owned by me (annoyingly)).

On we go!

'Come on Spyro, your gonna be late!'

Spyro, grunting indignantly, rose from his reverie. He half-thought of taking a swipe at his constant companion and best friend, Sparx the Dragonfly, but he had already moved out of swiping range. Yawning, Spyro rose from his bed of soft leaves, and lumbered over to the other side of his cave (this was rather impressive, seeing as at only one year of age it is rather difficult for anyone to lumber), where he woke himself fully by immersing his head and neck in the crystalline stream of water that drizzled out of a crack in the cave wall, and whose soothing gurgle always managed to help him sleep at night.

'Come on, come on, come on! It's already eight!'

'Alright you little annoying flying Drakmas light, I'm coming....'

'Well hurry, you know how embarressing it is being late!'

Boy, did he ever! After walking into class late a couple of weeks before, and having to take his seat at the back of the class by walking past everyone and his rather stern teacher, Spyro had made a pact to never be late again.

'Hang on, did you say it's already eight?!'

'Yes, yes, YES! Let's GO!'

'Alright, alright, let's go!'

As they walked (and buzzed) out of their cave and into the sunlight, Spyro winced and brought his wings over his face. He had a big headache. The class bully, Nimbus, had punched him in the head yesterday for standing upto him, and he had had a rough night. Spyro didn't know what it was about himself, he just couldn't watch other people get bullied, especially Ember, who was his buddy for that week, and had only just started at their school.

As if reading his mind, Sparx buzzed, 'Hay, you OK? That was a big punch you took.'

'Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine, just got a bit of a headache.'

'Heh, eight hours of mind numbing boredom should fix that!', said Sparx, laughing.

Spyro chuckled, but his heart wasn't in it.

'Oh, come on, that's gotta be worth a laugh', said Sparx,'that was a good one!'

And Spyro, making quite an effort, dredged himself out of his brooding and became his old cheery self, laughing to boot.

Twenty minutes later, having dashed into class just as the door was closing, Spyro took his seat at his preferred patch of the floor, towards the back left, and Ember sat down next to him, with a thoroughly un-Ember-ish 'Hullo'.

'What's up?' asked Spyro to his usually cheery friend.

Without looking away from the board, where their teacher was starting the usual daily grind, she replied 'It's Fireday Spyro, and it's been a rough week. I'm just tired is all', amd that was the last they could talk until after school that day, seeing as the teacher had seen them talking.

Hours later, when Spyro's purple and gold finned and horned head emerged out of the front gate to the school, he immediately saw Nimbus' large red and black form, towering over a little pink dragon standing before him.

'You leave her alone!' he shouted, hurtling between Nimbus and Ember,'What did she do to you?'

Nimbus, sneering, said 'She didn't bow before me, that's enough for the Nimbus treatment!', and he turned back towards Ember.

Ember didn't notice him turning towards her, she was too busy staring at Spyro, who now had steam gushing out between his clenched teeth, and what looked like smoke coming out of his nostrils.

Nimbus didn't notice these tell-tale warning signs until, while he was drawing back his closed fist, he smelt a strange scent, one he had never smelt before but that he attributed to molten metal. He turned towards Spyro, where the smell was at it's strongest, just in time to cop a fireball straight in the face! This was unheard of, a dragon breathing fire at the age of one! Nimbus was not very hurt (dragon's have a natural resilience to heat) but was still shocked enough to take off running! SPyro watched him go, then turned to the stunmed Ember and asked...

'Are you alright?'
