Stan pressed his back against the cold wet brick wall, the rat chest lunged outwards as he took huge deep breaths in and out, panting heavily as the heavy droplets of water fell from the very tip of his snout. In his left hand, the weight of the gun weighed heavily, the arm straining as crimson blood slowly made it's way down until it travelled along the barrel and then fell to the concrete below with the rest of the rain drops. A loud sound came from the right as the rat looked back down the alleyway he had just ran down and saw the white light moving up and down from around the corner. With a loud grunt, the rat winced as he pushed himself from the wall and continued to run down the narrow passageway. They had to give up hunting him, surely, thought Stan as his heart pounded in his chest, why wasn't the rain stopping them?

*Two Hours Earlier*

"As long as they're delivered on time, the customers can get annoying when they start to complain." Jackson spoke into the phone, the large grey wolf leant back in his rabbit leather chair, the fabric creaked as he grinned toothily as he listened to the other end of the call as he used one of his sharp claws to dig out some stinking meat that had got caught from earlier that day. "Yes boss, it should be delivered on time." Jackson pulled the small strand of red meat from his mouth as he looked at it and then spoke. "Good, make sure they pay for it properly this time as well, including the rest they didn't from the last delivery." Jackson placed the handset back down as the phone bell inside rang out slightly as he did so and stared at the meat strand between two of his sharp claws. "As for you, always wanting to get the last say, bunnies." The wolf reached and pulled a paper handkerchief from the small cardboard box and wrapped the small strand of meat, then the male tossed it into the wastepaper bin to the left of him. "Carl! Get your arse in here!"

A smaller male wolf came scurrying in with a clipboard under his arm as the wolf closed the office down behind him and came right up to the large oak desk in the room and dipped his head. "Here boss." Jackson grinned at the omega wolf as he clasped his fingers together like a temple, the claws clinked about as the yellow eyes stared at the thin wolf and slowly Jackson spoke. "What's next on the agenda?"

Carl quickly pulled the clipboard from under his arm and looked down at the first piece of paper and then spoke. "You have a meeting tomorrow with the Tiger Clan who have some concerns that the Vulpine have taken more of their share of this year's meat harvest." Jackson nodded his head slowly. "Ah, Mitch has been complaining about Joey, again has he?" Carl dipped his snout once more. "I'm going to have to make my point a bit more forceful then with that fox. Who's the Alpha wolf in that area again?"

The smaller wolf slipped the clipboard under his arm again as the male pulled out the small book from his vest pocket and quickly looked through the pages. "Torefang sir." Carl said as he looked up from the small pages of the booklet as Jackson grinned wider. "Inform him to get the message across that the foxes are overstepping their mark again." Jackson moved a large hand to signal for the young wolf to leave. "But do put the clipboard on the desk, I'll go through the rest of the reports you have prepared." Carl nodded and placed the clipboard down onto the desk, then quickly jogged out of the office as the door closed behind him.

*One Hour Earlier*

Torefang snarled as his sharp canine teeth were borne, the large black wolf easily kept up the smaller fox who was pressed up against the brick wall in the alleyway. "I hear from the higher ups, you've been pushing your luck again Joey, now why is that when I clearly remember warning you what would happen the next time you did it?" The fox had his ears pinned back. "I don't know what you're on about, we've done nothing wrong. Who said we had?" Torefang squeezed the neck of the fox he was holding up and snarled. "Guess, large, striped and thinks due to your messing about he can complain to the Alpha of Alpha's about unfair sharing of the meat."

The smile that formed on the face of Joey grew. "Oh, Mitch told you, he's a crazy one he is, always trying to get more for his lot. You really think we would mess with that lot and steal their meat? Look at us, we're no match to piss that lot off." Torefang snarled. "Oh really, is this one of your tricks again?" Joey just smiled. "And have you bite my face off? I'm insulted by the remark there." The grip around Joey's neck loosened as the black wolf looked at the vulpine eyes. "So, what are you saying?"

"Ever since the collapse of that farm years ago, meat produce has been going down, especially with those attacks that keep happening. Who is to say that Mitch is not trying it on, blaming a smaller predator species like myself and my kind just to get a bit more meat to feed his much larger form?" The fox slowly licked his muzzle, then his nose. "Have you seen him lately, he's started to get a little extra in the gut." Torefang looked thoughtful and slowly he placed the fox down onto the floor once more. "If you're lying, you know what ha-" Joey will cut in. "Yeah, yeah, you hunt us down, kill some of us as a warning to others and then replace me with another, but I'm not lying, you'll see."

Torefang frowned at the fox. "Go, get out of my sight." The large wolf watched as the fox ran off down the alley as the large canine looked thoughtful. Another wolf came up alongside him. "Sir, what do you think, he is telling the truth?" Torefang looked about for a moment and then he spoke. "Go talk to Mitch, find out more about his complaints again, see if he has put on some weight." Torefang nodded for the wolf to go and he turned to the other one. "Follow me." The other wolf nodded as Torefang began to dial into his mobile and then lifted it up to his ear. "Boss, something isn't right about this, I think we're being played." The two wolves continued down the narrow alleyway as the sound of Jackson was on the other end, then went silent. "I don't know boss, thought you should know, Joey thinks other species are starting to fight over lack of meat supplies, mentioned that farm that fell years ago." A louder sound came from the other end, Torefang lowered his ears as he listened. "Yes boss, that one. Let me make more enquires in my territory, see what I can dig up." Torefang ended the call as he turned slightly to the wolf who was walking alongside of him. "We're to start investigating more thoroughly, boss isn't happy. I think we should first-" Torefang didn't get to finish the sentence as a small hole suddenly appeared between his eyes, the back of his head exploded outwards and then the large wolf fell down, crumbled onto the alley floor as the other wolf, splattered in blood turned his head quickly to where the loud noise came from, whisking his gun out at the same time and fired at the rat who had already started to run away, the shot hit the arm the rodent was carrying the gun, the sound of the male rodent crying in pain and then the wolf gave chase, gun in one hand, phone in the other.

*Present*

The plan was simple enough, Stan thought back as he stumbled over some cardboard boxes, the rodent frowning as he continued to keep just ahead in the darkness from the pack of wolves that were chasing him. The cell started rumours flying about, creating a rift between the vulpine and the felines in the area, especially Mitch and his clan as it did not take much to anger that tiger. Anything to cause the two to distrust and pull in the wolves to try and keep the peace between them. All Stan had to do was to follow Joey until one of the alphas was about and take him out. A quick in, shoot and run off mission but damn that other wolf caught him by surprise and the bullet lodged in his arm was not letting go of reminding him of that either.

Stan had to lose them, right now he could not get back to base, they would find it. His lungs burned from all the running, the panic he faced as old ancient instincts kicked in, making the rodent choose a direction without even thinking as he heard the heartbeats, the breaths from the large canines behind him, mixed with the hot blood that flowed through his large ears noisily, they both felt hot and sweaty as his body tried desperately to keep his body temp in check, the hand holding the gun becoming more wet from the sweat, the blood and rain that fell down onto them. Stan turned to the right and ran forwards again and felt fear grip him as the tall wall faced him, a dead end, his natural instincts had failed him this one time as the rat turned around quickly and slowly sunk into the darkest part of the alley, the rat pressed his back against the corner of the wall.

Slowly and with quite a lot of pain, the rat pulled up his gun, the arm ached so much Stan bit down hard onto the lower gum part of his mouth, blood started to leak down from his chin as the rodent pulled out the clip and looked at how many bullets remained inside, then he pushed the clip back into the handgun and slowly took it into his other paw and waited. The sight of the torch light began to dimly lit the area at the other end of the alley, then it got brighter as Stan slowly lifted up the pistol and aimed as that light became brighter with each second. Then he fired once he saw the abrupt end of the light and saw a dark shadowy form collapse on the floor, the rest of the lights went out quickly and the rat fired again in the direction but saw nothing was there. "Fuck..."

It was then that the other end he heard something and fired once more, the sound of one of the wolves yelping, Stan breathed heavily, the rat counting down how many he head left in the clip. Then flashes of light from the other end of the alley way as he began to duck, but several of the shots hit into him as he felt pain in his arm again, leg and torso. Stan collapsed into the puddle on the floor, the gun fell from his hand an spun a bit away from him and slowly he saw movement on the other side, the dark shadows began to carefully move into the alleyway. With a hiss, Stan inhaled as he slowly began to reach for the handgun, the long rodent fingers crawling as they inched closer to it, then the light from the torches hit him as one of the wolves called out. "Stop!" Stan ignored as he moved towards the gun again and another shot fired out as it slammed into his gut, the pain wrecked through his body as Stan cried out in pain, the rodent felt his claws on the grip of the gun and slowly he pulled it towards him, gripped it and fired back as another wolf fell down to the floor, the torch spun about on the concrete floor.

Another wolf went to fire, but another stopped him, Stan heard the whisper with his large ears. "Don't shoot, we need him to talk." Stan spat out blood from his mouth, the thick crimson liquid splattered onto the ground. With heavy breaths, the rat frowned. "Fuck..." Stan knew it was over as he slowly lifted the gun and turned it onto himself. The loud sound of the wolf barked out. "Stop him!" Then darkness came, the rat did not even see or hear the shot as his skull exploded from the point-blank range.

The group of wolves slowly made their way to the end of the alleyway as their torches and guns still pointed down at the dead rat, the leader of the pack knelt down and nudged Stan with the barrel of his gun and swore under his breath, put his pistol back into his holster and replaced it with his mobile phone. The water ran off it as he quick dialled, pulling it to his ear and waited as the click of the call was answered. "Boss, he's dead, killed himself, we weren't able to capture to question him." The wolf looked down at the rat and started to look through the various pockets. "No, he's not carrying much, just some coins, that's about it. If you want my guess, it is one of them. My advice is to put rest on higher alert, we don't know if more attacks are to happen." The wolf listened to the call and nodded his head. "No, he should be still good for the market, we'll get to that right away." The wolf ended the call and got up onto his feet. "Pick that thing up, we're taking him to one of the processing plants. They are not going to properly bury this one. Let us move."

Slowly the group picked the dead rodent up, several of the wolves walked backwards as their guns remained out as they made their way from the alleyway, turned the corner, and slowly vanished from sight. Up above on one of the roof tops, a squirrel looked down and turned back to another rat again as he shook his head. The rat frowned and placed a hand paw on his face as tears flowed down his cheeks, already wet from the rain as the squirrel placed a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry Max." Max nodded slowly as he looked down into the dark alleyway below. "He fought for the very end, the very end." Paul nodded. "We best go back and report." Max nodded slowly as he turned away and the two quietly made their way over the roof tops, leaping from one building to the next as the dark storm clouds rolled overhead, signalling the true nature of the evening as it washed away the signs of death that splattered onto the ground below.

Chapter One

It had been thirty years since Timmy had gotten his freedom, the mouse had aged well, no longer skinny as the mouse gained some muscle in his middle age, Javo on the other hand had started to get a bit greyer, the black rat though smiled as he held the mouse by the hand as they walked along the street. "So, tell me, how come for someone that didn't get to see old movies, you got into such really bad movies as of late?" The rat smiled at Timmy who laughed. "What can I say, I'm a sucker for the bad movies." The rat pulled a face. "There's bad movies Tim and then there's really bad movies. I can't believe you got me to sit down to watch three hours of Big Boob Carrot vs Cucumber Zombie Tornado." Timmy rested his head on the upper arm of the rat and sighed. "What can I say that ferret does write some crazy stuff sometimes." Javo twirled a finger around the side of his head. "There's crazy and there's fucked up crazy and that's what that one is. We don't have to watch another movie like that next time, do we?" The mouse shook his head as his larger mate. "No, your pick next time around." The rat gave a sly grin as Timmy added. "And no, no more boom, boom explosion in an explosion fest from that whacked out badger dude either." Javo laughed. "Alright, alright. I see if I can't find something that we can both enjoy, how about a comedy?"

"That'll work." Timmy replied as he gave a loving hug of the arm he held about his arms. "So, this place we're heading to eat?" The rat looked sly as he shook his head. "It's a surprise remember?" Timmy gave a soft whine as the rat shook his head. "Look, call it payback for me losing three hours of my sanity." The mouse pulled a face at his larger lover. "Meanie." Javo just smiled. "Yeah, you like big mean rats though, don't you?" Timmy pulled another face as he pouted. "Yes, yes I do."

The two came up to a building as Timmy looked at it and his facial expression changed as he smiled. "Wow didn't know one of these opened up. V Burgers, awesome!" Javo laughed as they walked towards the door and opened it to be approached by a slim female skunk. "Hello and welcome to V Burgers, how many for a table?" Javo looked at Timmy and back again. "One, he can sit in my lap." Timmy giggled but the rat continued speaking. "Two please." The female nodded with a smile and led the two rodents to a table near to the window and placed down two of the menus. "I'll let you both get settled in first before I take your orders. In the meantime, is there anything you like to drink first?"

"Two honey apple ciders please." Javo said as he looked at Timmy who had already opened the menu and smiled at the female who returned the nod and walked off as she wrote the order on the small pad. "So, are you going to order one thing or attempt to eat everything." The mouse looked up from the menu. "Don't know what you mean?" The rat leaned forwards. "Yes, you do, eyes bigger than your belly, you were ill the last time you got excited for a place opening around here." The rat leaned back in his seat as he looked at the mouse. "I just don't want to see you suffer later that's all. Breaks my heart." Timmy smiled back softly. "I won't, I just want to get a small burger, that's all." The mouse leaned forwards as he saw the rat do the same and both grabbed the other hand. "Besides, later I rather not feel bloated for, you know?" Javo smiled back softly. "Ah, frisky, are we?" The rat saw the mouse nod and he grinned wider. "All these years together and still, you haven't toned down on being aroused."

The female came back with two bottles of cider and two glasses as she placed them down onto the table and looked at one, then the other. "Are you ready to order or do you need a bit more time?" She smiled at the two males holding hands together. Javo coughed and released his grip as he investigated the menu himself now as Timmy looked at the female, the mouse stared at the name tag and nodded. "Yes, we're ready to order Sue. I'll have the quarter Mushroom, onion infused burger with cheese and small set of fries." Timmy looked to where Javo was and he responded. "The same for me but make it a medium." Sue wrote it down as she took the two menus off from the rodents and walked off as Javo returned his gaze back to the smaller mouse. "So?" Javo asked as Timmy blushed. "It's hard not to when I have you. Yeah, I know that is corny but that is me, corny-mouse."

"It's alright, don't have anything bad to say about you ever, even after all these years. Even if I'm being tortured occasionally from one of the bad movies you enjoy." Javo slowly took the smaller mouse hand into his own and held it, the two enjoying the warmth both gave off as they sighed happily together as the rest of the world slipped away until only their eyes were the only things they saw. There the two remained happily just staring at each other until they were brought back from their trance by a cough by the female skunk again with two hot plates. "Here you go fellas, enjoy your meal." Then she was off again like mist in the wind to another table with her bubbly happy tone. "And what can I get you this day?"

Javo watched her move from table to table. "I think we have to tip her well, don't you?" The rat asked as he turned his head back around and saw the mouse biting down onto the burger before that look of pure bliss came over his facial features and Javo grinned. "Last time I saw that look was when you had your mouth full of my cock." The rat picked up his slightly larger burger and then took a bite from it before he two gave the same look on his face and sighed happily, the rodent slowly chewing the food, wanting to enjoy the various tastes. With a swallow Javo gasped. "Wow, this is freshly made, the seasoning and all." Timmy looked at the rat as he swallowed. "I know right?! This is awesome."

"Can't argue with that." Javo said as he bit down into his burger once more and slowly chewed it. "So, you're back at work next week then?" Timmy nodded his head. "Yeah, end of my holiday time and back to the office I go once more. When are you back at work again?" The mouse looked at the large rat who was pouring the cider out from the bottle into the glass tumbler. "Another week I have off, then it's back to work for me also, really glad considering the mess that's happening right now."

Javo placed his bottle down and then poured out Timmy's as the mouse looked at him for a moment. "They tried to call you in, didn't they?" The rat nodded. "They did but as you can see, they failed as I'm still about. Wasn't going to ruin this day, you've been on about this place for a while now and well, aren't you glad I'm here with you?" Timmy nodded his head. "I am but if Phil tries to get you into work again before your break is over, I'm going to smack that raccoon over the head myself."

"Oh, Phil is alright, just sometimes things come about that I can't ignore." Javo replied and saw the frown on Timmy's face and he swallowed. "Look, you know this happens from time to time, this time I was able to get someone else to look into it while I can continue to spend another day with you my love."Slowly, the two continued to eat their meal, Timmy smiled at Javo as he watched how the rat ate and timed it so that they both finished at the same time, the two rodents happily full as they sipped their cider, the larger rat gestured with his hand paw and Sue came back over. "We're ready for the bill please." Javo said as he looked at Timmy. "I'll pay." The mouse said and got up as he left the table, the mouse walked behind the skunk as Javo felt his phone vibrate and pulled it out as the rat looked at the screen, then got up from the chair as well.

"That'll be twenty-two dollars." Sue said as Timmy reached into his pocket and pulled out two twenty-dollar bills. "Keep the change." The mouse said as the female skunk smiled at the mouse. "Why thank you." She said as she paid the amount into the till and took the change before putting it into her pocket. Javo came up behind Timmy and he coughed. "We best get going, sooner we're home the sooner you know." Timmy blushed as Sue grinned. "Have fun you two." Then she was off to another part of the restaurant as the mouse turned to look at the rat. "Your lack of shame you got from me isn't it?" The rat nodded his head. Timmy smiled and began to push the rat out of the building. "I'm regretting teaching you things now."

Javo stepped outside as the rat looked about and he felt the mouse come to his side again, the mouse slipped his arm under the rat's as Javo replied. "And to think you were this timid thing from the farm..." Javo saw the smile fade from Timmy's face as the rat sighed. "Sorry, didn't think." Timmy sighed as he walked slowly alongside Javo. "It's okay, it's been thirty years since that day, I should be over it by now." The mouse frowned. Javo reached and patted the hand that held onto his arm. "But the otter was nice to you, I get it." Timmy looked at the rat as they both stopped at the end of the pebble street, the busy road in front of them and the mouse moved Javo to face him, the rat back was to the road as he spoke. "I love you, what happened back then was what happened but I chose you, we're equal, we're not master slave, we're mated, not food, not an item but actual equals. And I love you, do you understand. I love this life, I love you, I just miss an old friend that didn't start out as one at first." Timmy looked at Javo as he did not get a response from him. "Are you listening to me?!" He shouted. "I'm saying I love you here."

Javo stared as he saw a red light in the distance from above one of the windows and the rat pulled the mouse sharply, Timmy squeaked in surprised as the large rat pulled him around and behind him as the large hand reached inside of his coat and pulled a gun out. Timmy blinked as he spoke. "What?" The loud bang came out as it echoed through the street and Timmy felt Javo start to press against him as the mouse pushed back to keep the rat from falling behind. Javo grunted in pain as he pulled open his shirt, the vest worked, the rat felt pain in his broken rib as he heard the loud screech come about behind him. A dark black van had just pulled up, the side door had been loudly pulled open as the rat turned his head slightly behind as he called out. "Get him out of here!"

Timmy who was confused, suddenly felt arms wrap about him as Javo fired back towards where he saw the first shot rang out. "Wait! What's happening?!" Timmy cried out as Javo continued to call out. "Just get him away, for fucks sake!" The sound of the gun fired again as the rat stood there between Timmy and the area, the rat slowly stepping back along the way. Another shot rang out as Timmy saw the back of his mate's head burst open and then his entire world fell around him. "No!" Timmy screamed. "NOOOOO!"

For such a small mouse, Timmy fought back against those that were dragging him back towards the van. A voice from behind him called out. "Get him inside for fuck's sake!" Timmy though was just screaming. "Let me go, let me go! Javo!!!!" The mouse squirmed about as he was dragged into the van, a hedgehog jumped in front of the mouse as another shot was fired and the male fell down dead as the van door slammed shut, closing the world into darkness from the mouse who could only see his lover dead in the street.

Another voice rang out right next to him. "GO!" The whole van lurched as another shot fired out and created a small hole where light came in, but the bullet missed everyone as the loud sound of the engine roared. Timmy though, still in shock fought against those about him. "Let me go! Javo!" Another voice called out, the mouse only hearing it in the distance, even though it was right next to him. "Hold him down!" Then a sharp pain came to the side of Timmy's neck and quickly a hazy fog rolled over the mouse as he passed out, the body going limp from unconscious.

"He's out." The brown rat said as he flumped against the side of the van, the badger turned around from the driving wheel. "Are you sure?" The rat nodded his head. "Yes, I'm sure, we lost Javo though, fuck how did they find him so quickly." A female otter looked from the passenger seat. "Who knows but whether this one likes it or not, he's been dragged into this." The female otter turned to the badger. "We should've had Javo tell him what was going on earlier!" The badger snarled back at her. "Not now, we got to get off the streets, where's the nearest safe house?" the female otter looked at the map on her lap. "Take the next right, then left, follow the road for two miles and then another right. It's the fourth building on the left."

The van reached its destination and quickly reversed into the building as the shutters came down, the engine died down and the badger stepped out of the van as he looked at the large rat. "We got him but Javo didn't make it." Finn swore under his breath, the large rat looked to where the side door of the van opened, and the large rat walked over and with a hand paw gripped the side of the door. "How did he take it?" The brown rat frowned back. "How you think he took it? Had to subdue him with a sedative, recommend we strap him down before we wake him up or when the drugs were off."

Finn solemnly nodded his head. "Be gentle, we need him." The brown rat nodded as he and a few others slowly began to get him out of the van onto a stretcher as Finn turned to look at the badger. "Has the rest of the clan he was staying at been warned?" The badger nodded his head. "They have, seems the wolves have responded to our killing one of their own."

"Then it's begun." Finn said as the two walked away from the van. "We have much to prepare, war is at our feet." The badger nodded his head. "It has indeed, I just hope the first will be useful." The badger turned his head to where the mouse was being pushed another way on the trolley. Finn sighed. "I do not know, grief can have many heads, let us hope the right one emerges." The badger nodded with his deep gruff voice. "Yes."
