#9 of Blade's adventures

Again sorry for grammar because this chapter (as last one) it's unchecked

Ok, after loooooong delay i finally made up my mind and wrote this ending part for this series of short stories i wrote with feral dogs.

This actual ending may be a surpise, but i long foresaw this: the whole purpose of the story was originally intended to be a "prequel" backstory of the nominal protagonist Blade, but eventually the chapters focused on different characters than him.

It may be sad or surprising, but i really intended to have a quite dramatic ending with lots of killing ^^

I am not sure i will write again of Blade but i am possibly going to commission something in the future for his subsequent life as a stray.

Thanks to the people that in the past made some grammar check and fixes of past chapters, and also to Thakur to have inspired me writing this ^^

I admit however that recently i got the mood to made-up a different set/scenario of feral dogs characters unrelated to this one. We will see.. Comments and opinions are extremely welcome ^^

Blade Adventure 7 - The massacre

Blade's nose caught something in the air.

A smell known to him, and feared because as soon as he realized what happened, Blade knew that there was little to do by now.

It was his own turn to vagabond on the streets, while his brother was stuck into the Junkyard: he never fully understood the importance of the broken human's machines. Why some humans were so obsessed on visiting the guardian and arguing with him. He neither tried to get a reply from the pack of dogs who served them, led by that Argentinian Mastiff.

He stopped his run just close to the secret exit under the fence, the smell of fire, gunpowder and blood was overwhelming.

Whimpering, Blade crouched inside the short tunnel and emerged on the other side, just to find his brother Diablo in a pool of blood.

"Can't say it was worth it, brother... but the bitch paid for it."

Blade approached slowly the mortally wounded body of his half-brother, his eyes briefly checked the stiff body off an enemy female. Her smell off blood could not cover the strong presence of heat.

Poor Diablo fell for that single weakness of him, sure Blade was ever eager to mount a bitch in heat, but his foolish brother fell in the trap just to realize too late his mistake.

The junkyard was decorated with the bodies of a dozen of other dogs, as well as their human master riddled with bullets near his hut. On distance, the strong sound of police's cars indicate their imminent arrival, while the killer's machines already left the scene.

While Blade looked at the approaching cars, his brother exhaled his last breath.

Gulping down, bitterness Blade sniffed the bodies to try recognize some of them: the entire populations of the Junkyard was killed, his half-brothers and sisters and relatives. Most killed by bullets.

The guard dog kept walking among the bodies, without a cry or a whimper, his mind working furiously to process everything and find a path of action.

Among the dead ones, he found his own massive sire, entangled with one of the invaders: Blade recognized the scarred body of their leader, Spider.

"R...run, run away."

For the first time, Blade's heart dropped and he lost his composure.

He run inside the hut, jumping over the body of the guardian. The body of his own mother was laying there, a single bullet wound and a pool of blood under her splayed body. Blade could detect the whimpering sounds of her newborn litter under a table. She clearly covered their presence trying to attack her aggressor.

"You should follow her advise".

Blade turned, his head low and fangs in clear sight. The foreign dog however wasn't part of the killers.

A German shepherd with police dog harness.

Lowering his head he entered the hut under the threatening glance of Blade.

The police-dog licked the wound of Blanca, before moving toward the box of the litter.

"Stay away from them!" threatened Blade.

"Have no fear, I will make sure my master will notice and take care of them."

The German shepherd, made a little sad smile, after pulling away the shirt covering the box and uncovered the five mutts looking the stranger with scared eyes.

"I am quite sure a couple of them are mine actually, I... met this bitch some time ago, even if as I guessed I wasn't her only male."

The police-dog turned suddenly, his voice turning more threatening suddenly.

"I tried to warn her once, have you see what serving a criminal master brought to your family?! A man entangled with other criminals to steal, sell and smuggle metals. This was bound to happen!"

Blade lowered his head.

"I have lived my life here, this was my family. But I know very well there is no future left for me here."

The Rottweiler turned and run away from the hut. There were police cars everywhere but he lurked behind broken cars until reaching again the tunnel under the fence. He knew very well he should leave the city, a chapter of his life was over but the former guard-dog was not going to cry over the past. All that mattered was being alive, and carrying with him the memory of the courage of his kins.

Behind him, the German shepherd crouched close Blanca, barking to call his master, because the Dobermann was unconscious but still breathing.

On a nearby alley of the city, a young Brittany male dog whimpered while listening to the cars coming and going to the junkyard.

He had followed the advise of the Dobermann, but life on the street was quite terrifying for the house pet. Still... he never tried to go back to his old home, knowing what could means for his own future.

"H... hello" said a female voice behind him. "I don't think it's safe to stay here."

He was surprised to see a mutt. She was clearly young, younger than him actually, her belly swollen a litter.

"Listen, you seems an house pet, right? I come from the landfill. I followed your tracks for a couple of days... I was searching some other dog to join with. We could go in the southern alleys of the city. I smelled more dustbins and less stray than this area."

The Brittany was taken aback by the proposal, his curious eyes wondering a bit on her pregnant figure and despite his inexperience, Scotty realized the young female soon would definitely need a help.

He wagged, with a friendly approach he sniffed her as greeting

"My name is Scotty, and your?"

ShiningPool's heart warmed after his reaction, she wasn't alone anymore.
