Miguel cackled as his fellow dragon dumped him into the hammock. The crickets along the lakeside laughed with him in chorus with the sounds of waves lapping against the shore. The green dragon looked upward at the snow-white Eastern dragon who had a smile draped along his muzzle despite himself.

"You're too high energy, little man," said the white dragon. "Miguel, if you wanted my attention that bad, you could've had it without that prank."

"Calus, why do you think I brought so much shaving cream?" said the green dragon.

"Remember, we_rented_ the lake house. The others shouldn't have to lose their deposit because you want to be a little shit."

"Yeah, but I've barely had any time with just you and me. I knew the only way I was going to get you alone is--"

"When I have to put you in timeout?"

"I'm not five, dude!" Miguel readjusted his position to make more room in the hammock. He smacked the empty spot. "I just wanted some one on one time. Where's the harm in that?"

The white dragon sighed but climbed into the hammock. Miguel delighted in the warmth Calus provided as they both got cozy. "You're impossible, bro."

"Yeah, but you gotta admit, you also liked the look on their faces when I magicked the explosion to give them all foam beards."

"...It wasn't an unamusing sight." His leg draped over the side of the hammock and pushed off the sandy beach. They pair began to swing back and forth. The fresh humid air of the lakeside wafted over them, refreshing them on this warm evening.

Green scaled arms wrapped around the lithe white dragon. Their tails intertwined. Miguel's active little fingers poked and prodded at Calus' muscles. The green dragon licked his lips. He spoke in a singsong voice to tease his friend further. "Youuu're gettin' chuuuunkyyyyy."

"You can't calm down for a minute, can you?" said Calus. A white fuzzy arm curled round the green dragon's shoulders. "Not even when we're on vacation?"

"Nope!"

"Take this hammock," he said as they swung side to side. "Isn't it nice not to talk? Isn't it nice to just lay here and stare out at the lake?"

Miguel stuck his tongue out at his fellow reptile. His eyes stared forward, at the lake as Calus suggested, to humor him. "I don't get the appeal."

"Just watch. Let the world sway in front of you. And listen."

Miguel took a deep breath. The world didn't look half bad from this perspective. Across the lake, he saw the trees swing back and forth with the rhythm of the hammock. The lake itself shifted and swayed. A giggle escaped his lips as his head nestled into the crook of Calus' arm.

"Imagine for a moment," Calus's voice continued. That lean yet powerful arm tightened around his back. "That by choosing to remain stationary, you have the power to make the world sway, all the while you stand still. That's exciting, isn't it?"

The idea was exciting. Any self-respecting dragon loved to accumulate power, even in this modern age. Nothing sounded more powerful than the ability to make the world move to your tempo. The trees and the lake and the shore blended together in that endless repetitive motion. Back and forth. Up and down. Until they were no longer a set of trees, a lake, or a shore. Instead, a swathe of green and deep black that he couldn't attach to any word swayed back and forth before his eyes.

"The world is your pendulum. Ticking to your rhythm. Can you feel it?"

"Yeah..." Miguel whispered. He didn't recognize his own voice. However, such worries became lost in the endless rhythm of the hammock.

"That's it. You're a dragon. Mighty. Magical. Uncompromising. You don't have to fight to get my attention. You have it. As you can see, the world revolves around you. You don't need to fight at all."

"Don't need...to fight..." Miguel yawned. Lazily his head bounced with the swaying world. A pleasant dizziness flowed through him. His friend was right. What need did he have to do anything but rest here, unbothered by the sway of the outside world? That world bobbed to his rhythm, after all. He shut his heavy eyes. He wanted to watch the world bend and warp more, but he was so tired. No need to worry. The rhythm would be there in the morning.

Unbeknownst to the green dragon, the white had slipped unnoticed from the hammock three minutes prior. With a flick of his wrist, the ropes which held the hammock kept the gentle back and forth oscillation going on their own. All the while, the charmed green dragon within giggled and snored, limp and satiated.

"Back and forth you go, bro. Let the rhythm carry you away." Calus smirked. The white dragon turned on his heel to return to the lake house. Now both of them could get a peaceful night's sleep.
