Lady Alicia Acorn, the Queen Mother and former Queen of the Kingdom of Acorn, can't believe what she's hearing. Her husband, old and decrepit from the magical influence and the warping effects of the Zone of Silence, sits in his wheelchair, fingers laced together, and his body shaking. But the look on his eyes shows off his serious intent.

"Max, surely you can't be serious."

"I've never been more serious in all my life," the former monarch says. "And... with what little lucidity I have left, I grant you this gift."

Lady Alicia sits across Rosemary Prower, enjoying a spot of tea on the balcony. "It's quite lovely to have you, Councilwoman," the royal says. "Everything has been changing so fast these past few years. I'm happy a woman like you has risen to such a prominent spot among the people. Why it only seems like yesterday that you were nothing more than the commander's wife. And now, here you are, in one of the highest forms of office in our kin- Republic.

Rosemary sighs, taking a sip of her own tea. "Thank you, your grace. It has been rather stressful, but to see the Republic thrive, especially now that we've finally defeated Dr. Eggman. It's quite thrilling to think of the possibilities we can get to, moving forward.

"You know," the queen says, placing her saucer down, her hands folding over her lap. "It is precisely looking into the future that I want to do. I want to see what we can do if we can remove some of our old preconceived notions and try different things. I've read a little about your book about your time on Argentium. I was wondering about a few things."

"Oh? Well, I'm happy to educate you, Highness," the fox says, placing down her drink as well. "What do you wish to know."

"The Bem," the queen begins, "these creatures from a different planet. They all are copies of one another, somehow, yes?"

"That's correct,"

"So, I'm correct in saying that each of them is female. Every last one?"

"Yes, indeed," Rosemary chuckles. "I sometimes wonder if that is the key to their peaceful existence."

The queen titters at that. "Oh, well, that's a conversation I don't think I'm ready for."

Rosemary frowns. "Then, what are you looking for?"

"Well, I was curious about the matters of courtship among them. How is it that they form romantic bonds there?"

Rosemary sighs, tapping her finger against the table. "Highness, surely you realize that homosexual attraction isn't alien to us on Mobius?"

Rosemary waves her hand, "Please... I may be old-fashioned, but I understand there are people different than I am. What are their family units like? Your book skims over that part of their society. Yet, you seem to indicate it is important in their political ideologies."

"Ah, yes, that... well, the publisher wasn't exactly keen on me addressing such things, and--"

"But I am most keen," Alicia says, leaning in, elbows on the table, her eyes narrowed. "There's something about these women that is quite fascinating, and you may be frank with me. I am quite keen to learn."

Rosemary gulps, adjusting the strap on her dress. "Well, the thing about the Bem, Highness, is that they do not see the same family units. Theirs is a culture of free exchange in ideas and in more physical attributes."

"Now, tell me," Alicia says, swirling her finger over the rim of her cup. "Did you participate in these exchanges? What did Amadeus think?"

Rosemary looks down, biting her lip, eyes scanning at nothing in particular. "W... well, we wanted to learn as much as we could, and... we were barred from coming home, so we figured we'd involve ourselves in some of the local customs."

"Do you miss it?"

"What?"

"Do you miss making love with the intelligent and wise race?"

Rosemary pushes herself away from the table. "I... I'm sorry, I don't know what..."

"Rosemary... I need your help."

The fox stops, lowering herself down. "What..?"

"Max is old, and he's set in his ways. I've... spent many years in a coma, dreaming of fantastic things that I could have never conceived of in reality, and I'm not too certain on how any of it works. You have experience with a husband who has allowed you to be open... you have experience pleasing women. Rosemary, I want you to teach me. I want you to show me how it is that I could please a woman so that I may break free from the bonds of tradition."

"Well, your highness, I-"

"Alicia,"

She gulps, "Alicia, it's all well and good that you want to be progressive, but sex isn't really about that, is it? It's more about passions flaring and expressing desire and-"

"But Councilwoman, I do desire you. Have you never thought of me in such a way, even in secret?"

The Councilwoman pauses, takes a deep breath through her nose, and then lets out a sigh. "It would be political suicide. The people aren't ready to-"

"Then, shall we make them ready, one step at a time?" she asks. "You don't have anything better to do after our little tea, do you? My chambers are secure, and I've been admiring you this whole time. I'll let you do whatever you wish to me--quite the opportunity, yes?"

Rosemary chuckles at that, "Well, Alicia, I have to say I do revel in the idea of being able to screw the monarchy."

"That's the spirit!" the Queen Mother says, pushing herself up. "Then, it is settled. You will have your way with me posthaste. Come, come!"

And with that, Alicia glides into the castle, leaving Rosemary flabbergasted yet quite intrigued.
