Chapter 1: Questions... Lies... Tears

(Thursday, November 26, 2026)

Kavik woke up to the sound of his alarm clock going off, his half opened eyes stared blankly at the digital display: 5:46AM. A few more seconds passed before he was able to wake up enough to realize that the alarm going off. He slowly raised his hand and turned the alarm off then sat up on the side of his small bed, and gave out a yawn.

Kavik Yule'za was a sixteen-year-old red fox, he was about 5'10", and being 130 lbs was quite slender. He adjusted the dark blue boxers he wore and refit his tail through the hole in them, making it feel more comfortable. Scratching his chest fur, he got up and stiffly walked out of his small bedroom and into the bathroom. After turning on the lights he closed the door and took off his boxers, stepping into the shower, he turned it on.

A cold blast of water hit him like a marksmen's arrow, and Kavik had to do everything to keep from shouting and waking the rest of the family. Kavik always let the cold water hit him first before it changed to warm in an attempt to jolt him awake. The warm water afterwards felt good, he enjoyed warm showers, and he took the fur shampoo and began to wash. His mind wandered off thinking about his future, his friends, and other things... he sighed.

When he finished washing, he grabbed a towel and dried himself off then wrapped the towel round his waist. Kavik walked over to the mirror and looked at his hair, it was long and black, and he liked it that way. The front and sides were shorted than the back. He took a comb and fixed to his normal: the front would part down the middle and go off to the sides, the hair would come down in small strands. The back went straight down, and he took a hair band and tied it into a ponytail. He walked back to his room and over to his dresser and grabbed a new pair of boxers and slipped them on and pulled his tail through the hole. After slipping on some jeans, tucking in a white short-sleeved t-shirt and a button-up blue shirt that he left unbuttoned and not tucked in over it. After slipping on some socks and a pair of sneakers he walked out of his room and into his little brother's room.

There he was, sprawled across his bed, with all the sheets kicked off: Surrik. Surrik was about a year younger than Kavik, and Surrik was like Kavik proportionately, being only three inches shorter, and his black hair being at a short to medium length. Kavik looked at the smile across Surrik's muzzle, why is he smiling, Kavik wandered. When he looked down towards Surrik's boxers, there was his answer. Surrik looked so peaceful and happy that Kavik wandered if he should wake his sleeping bro, Kavik smiled.

"Surrik... Surrik," Kavik whispered lightly shaking Surrik's shoulder, "You've got to get up for school." Surrik moaned and opened eyes but was still half-asleep.

"Morning big brother," Surrik groaned.

"Morning yourself," Kavik chuckled, "Have a nice dream?" Surrik looked at him with a confused look, not knowing what his brother meant. Kavik smiled and motioned his head down towards Surrik's waist. When Surrik looked down toward he gasped, quickly sat up and brought his knees up to his chest and hugged them tightly, his ears flattened. Kavik chuckled, "was she b-e-a-utiful?" He teased.

"Y-yeah s-she was," Surrik stammered.

"Well, I'm going to go and get our sister up; you better hurry up and take your shower." Kavik patted Surrik on the head and walked out, Surrik stayed in the fetal position, he wanted to cry but couldn't.

"He'll hate you... they'll all hate you," a voice in his head spoke.

"Shut up," Surrik whispered to himself, "Your wrong so just shut the hell up."

***(40 minutes later--6:45)***

"Hurry up, Tzapora," Kavik whispered to his little sister, who was busy packing her backpack. Tzapora was born on the same day as Surrik, making them twins, but no one knows which one was born first. Tzapora was the same height as Surrik but she was about ten pounds lighter. Her hair was black and slightly long, the top and back were combed back, and the front came forward in the form of a couple of strands that came over her face, truly beautiful for her age.

"For what" Surrik asked, "School doesn't start for another hour and fifteen minutes."

"Surrik," Tzapora began, "You know he likes to get there early to see his friends, and I do to."

"All right," Surrik barked, "forgive me for not having as many friends as you two to enjoy going to school early."

"Surrik!" Kavik snapped.

"You kids shut the hell up!" A voice from across the house yelled, "I'm trying to get some fucking sleep!" Uviq, their father was not the best father in the world, especially to Kavik, who almost hates him. Uviq was never around for the kids, he was either at work, or at the bar all day, and when he came home, he went straight to bed, not having any contact with either of his children. Most of this anger and separation stems from time after both Surrik and Tzapora were born, his wife... their mother, died shortly after, and Uviq blames the world for taking her from him.

"Jackass," Kavik muttered, flattening his ears, and narrowing his eyes.

"Don't worry about him Kavik," Tzapora told her older brother, "I've got my things ready, let's go." The trio walked out the door and into the partial darkness of the early morning. The neighborhood in which they lived was one of the better residential areas, the houses were not small, but more of a medium size. The time it took to get to the high school from the Yule'za house was about fifteen minutes, because neither of them drove a car they had to walk, but they enjoyed being with each other on the walk. The early December wind was cold, and bitter, and the darkness didn't help, but the walk was still enjoyable, their breath was somewhat visible, and Surrik would often make Tzapora laugh by pretending to smoke. The sound of Surrik and Tzapora's laughter made Kavik smile, he loved to hear his younger siblings happy, but Surrik's laugh sounded a little off, but Kavik decided not to let that bother him.

As they approached the high school, Fur High School, some student's cars were arriving for first period, the time which is often called "zero hour", because it started at 7:15 in the morning, instead of 8:15, it was an optional period for everyone. The three stepped into the entrance, the heater blasted them as they opened the door and quickly got in, it felt good compared to the outside cold.

"We could have at least grabbed a jacket as we left," Tzapora barked as she cupped her paws and blew into them.

"I'm sorry sis, but I didn't want to stay in there a second longer with that asshole," Kavik informed rubbing his tail with both his paws.

"Well I'm fine," Surrik boasted proudly with a smile while showing that he had on a pair of jeans and a tucked in red t-shirt.

"Well whoop-de-frickin'-doo for you," Kavik snapped.

"Will you two stop fighting", spoke Tzapora, "I'm going to go and see my friends and leave you guys to destroy each other, bye." She walked off into one of the hallways while the brothers starred at her until she disappeared.

"Gotta go, bro," Kavik spoke, "got to go and see my girlfriend."

"All right, see you later," Surrik waved walking off into a hallway, while Kavik walked away into a different hallway. Surrik headed into the cafeteria where some of the students came to hang out with friends until they had to head to class for second period, he walked over to one of the long tables in the corner. There, in the far most corner chair of the table sat Bello Gatto, a small and skinny feline, about an inch shorter than Surrik. Bello was a regular cat, with white fur allover his body except for the brown spot on his right ear, his hair was light brown and was kind of long that came down in bangs. He was wearing jeans that seemed to be a little tight for him, and he had on a loose light blue long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves being white.

"Hay Bell," Surrik spoke with the slight lisp he had, giving a single wave.

"Surri," Bello answered waving both his arms in the air, his tail waving behind him.

"I wished you would call me Surrik," Surrik barked playfully.

"Why don't you like me to call you Surri," Bello whimpered, "how come you get to call me 'Bell' but I can't call you 'Surri?'"

"I didn't say that you couldn't call me Surri," Surrik answered, "And don't whimper like that, or people will think that your gay or something."

"Yeah, I know," Bell replied look down.

"And remember, if someone even thought that you were gay: the entire school would know about it, and half, if not all the students here would be kicking your ass twenty-four-seven."

"I know," Bell said.

"Well, the semesters almost over, then one more semester to go, then junior year!" Surrik shouted his tail wagging happily behind him.

"Hay, maybe you big brother can tell us which teachers he thought were good and we should try to get," Bell informed.

"Maybe so." The two continued talk for the remainder of the time before the bell rang. They bid their farewells and left to go to separate classes.

***(About 4 hours later--around 12:00, 1st lunch)***

First lunch period, a mixed felling for Surrik, he liked being able to talk more with Bello, but those damn school jocks almost always want to mess with them... maybe they won't today. Surrik couldn't explain it, but talking with Bello made him feel happy, and carefree; it was like Bello was more than a friend to him... like a brother. Kavik and Tzapora had second lunch, so Surrik doesn't see them until the end of school, so Bello was the only one that he got to see.

"What's my little fox up to," Bello asked with a smile. Surrik's ears perked up; Bello was sitting on the bench outside in the courtyard, motioning Surrik to sit down when he approached him. Surrik sat down beside him and looked over past Bell.

"Bell, be careful what you say," Surrik warned indicating the group of jocks heading their way, Bell turned his head around.

"Well, well, well," a large tiger leading the group spoke with a mischievous grin, "Looks like my two favorite little pussies." The group chuckled with that remark.

"Look, Ashul, we don't want to deal with you today," Bello said.

"What?" Ashul said opening his arms up, "afraid that I'll hurt you or your boyfriend." The group laughed.

"Hey!" Surrik yelled.

"Whoa," Ashul barked, "I was just kidding... but what if its true? I mean, Bell, that feminine little lisp you have, and the way you dress... you two better hope that I'm wrong."

"We're not together, were friends, friends since middle school," Bello spoke.

"Alrighty then," Ashul spoke before turning around, his tail slapping Surrik in the face.

"That guy pisses me off," Surrik said angrily, springing up and pulling his ears back.

"Hay don't worry about it so much, what about your bro," Bell attempted in changing the subject.

"What about him," Surrik sighed.

"Doesn't he work today?" Bell questioned. He's right, Surrik thought to himself, he had almost forgotten that Kavik worked today. Kavik took a job last year at McDonald's to help Tzapora, Surrik, and himself to buy food. Only because "daddy dearest" would take his money and blow most of it at the bar, and what little was left helped to pay bills and buy food for himself. Their father didn't even know that Kavik had a job, like he would care what any of them did, he never notices when any of them are gone, so sometimes they could spend the night at a friends house and their father not even notice.

Kavik didn't have a car, so he carpooled with one of his friends to get him to work and

back and to go to the market to buy food. He kept his uniform at the restaurant and changed there, and worked on the weekdays so that he could have the weekends with his siblings and sometimes friends on occasion.

"Yeah, he does, I almost forgot," Surrik replied. They continued to talk until the bell rang, they promptly said their good-byes and left in opposite directions for their classes. Surrik looked over his shoulder and watched Bell walk away, making a glance his body, mostly his behind as he walked, his tail swaying with each step. Maybe Surrik thought of Bell as more than a brother, much more. Whatever the case, Surrik only wished that he could spend more time with him, but his wanting to spend more time with Bell made his stomach ache. Is it wrong to think of Bell as more than a friend, even more than a brother... does that make me a bad person... does that make me gay, Surrik thought to himself.

***(6 hours later--18:47 at McDonald's)***

"Kavik hurry the hell up with those fries," Kavik's manager, a chubby raccoon yelled at him.

"I'm hurrying as fast as I can!" Kavik yelled back.

"You better, or I'm going to fire your sorry ass!" the raccoon yelled. You fatass son of a bitch, Kavik thought to himself while angrily pulling the fry basket out of the vat, almost making some of the oil splatter on him. "Be the fuck careful you dumbass vulpine!"

"I'm trying," Kavik said, dumping the fries onto the holding area. And to think, Kavik thought, another four hours of this shit.

***(About 2 and a half hours later--21:20, Yule'za house)***

Tzapora had retired to her room to finish her homework, and Surrik had settled down on the couch in the living room thinking about Bell, he closed his eyes. He continued to think about him not realizing his own arousal, when he felt someone sit beside him, he eyes popped open, his father, holding a beer bottle with a drunken look on his face. Shit, Surrik thought snapping back to reality, it always scared him when his father was near him, most of those rare encounters ended up with Surrik being beaten harshly for no apparent reason. Surrik could still feel the pain from the last time his father beat him; his arms and his left side of his ribs still had bruises underneath the fur. Sometimes Surrik would tell Kavik or Tzapora about it, but there was nothing any of them could really do about it. Surrik sat there with a "scared shitless" type look on his face, wanting to decide weather to stay there, and hope nothing bad happens to him, or get up and walk or run out of the room, but he was too scared to hardly even think.

"Shon," Uviq said with a slight slur, his head waving back and forth, "did... I'ff never really taken the time to te... to tell you that I'm proud of you." This scared Surrik even more, his father has never even said "I love you" or anything close to that, or say anything good to him for that matter. "I mean... I-I means you haff grown up to be quite the ladiesh man, not like that faggot at my... at my work." Surrik shuddered when his father said that word "faggot", scaring him even more. "Those cock-sucking, tail-lifting, cock-sucking faggot sons of bitches, the shcum that walk the earth."

"Wha... what do you mean, d-dad," Surrik question, almost too scared to even ask.

"Well, you shee, homoshexuals are nothin' but pure evil... everyone hates them, even God... even those who think about another guy in that... in that... in that way, will burn in hell." God hates me... for even thinking about Bell; Surrik questioned himself, wanting to cry.

"Really?" Surrik asked, wanting to know more, even though his fear of what his father would further say overwhelmed him.

"Yesh, and I'm glad that you or your brother aren't like that, and your brother... your brother... hates them almost as much as I... as I do." KAVIK HATES THEM?! Then he would hate me too, Surrik thought, on the verge of tears. "And if he finds out... out who is gay, then he'll beat the shit outta them... maybe even... even kill 'em if he has the chance," Uviq said before his head flung back and he fell to sleep. Surrik got up, when to his room, flew on his bed, buried his face in the pillow, and began to sob uncontrollably.

"What did I tell you," the voice in Surrik's head spoke dauntingly, "everyone will hate you if they found out, even your big brother!" For once, Surrik agreed with what the voice said, Surrik always looked up to Kavik, Kavik always cared for him, like a father... but if he finds out about his fantasies... about the truth, Kavik will hate him, beat him... possibly even...kill him for it.

Don't hold back on the comments please, tell me what I did wrong or didn't do. And understand: First chapters most always suck ass!!!.....
