I woke up in a cold sweat remembering almost nothing from my dreams. The only thing that stood out besides a feeling of fear was a feeling of being watched, and a dark pair of blood red eyes. I shook my head and glaned down to see that the girls and Flame were laying ontop of me. I sighed and thought "Note to self. Stop saving people." I shook my head and muttered "Not my fault I have an urge to save those who need help. I guess I may as well accept that and move on." I started to stretch what litlle of my body I could move while thinking on how to wake everyone up. After a few minutes I slipped out from under them without waking them up and headed into the bathroom to take a shower. I didn't lock the bathroom door because I wasn't thinking about anything except getting clean and getting out to battle my first gym leader. I took a while to get clean because I'd been coated in mud from a missed Hydro pump sent by Joshua's Poliwrath. I shook my hair out when I finally felt clean and stepped out of the shower to see everyone staring at me. I blinked and wrapped a towel around my waiste and said "SO not fair when people do that."

They looked at me curiously and I said "It's also not fair when pokemon do that to their poor trainer. Now get out and let me get dressed." They sighed and walk away except for Flame who said "Damn it, you've got a bigger one than me." then left. I shook my hair out and got dressed then started downstairs with the girls sitting on my head and shoulders, while flame walked next to me. I glanced at him and asked "Ready to kick some rock head's teeth in?" He nodded and we kept walking while I tried to think of strategies. Flame yawned when we passed nurse joy and waved to her then we started for the pewter gym. I wondered how close flame was to evolving with all of the fighting we'd done in the last two days and figured he'd probably still need a lot more expierience. We walked into the gym and ran into another trainer who pulled out a pokeball I sighed and Flame stepped forward. I glanced at him and he nodded then said "Whenever you're ready." The trainer threw out a pokeball and a machop appeared. I grinned because a charmander wasn't weak against hat particular type of pokemon. The machop attacked him with a karate chop. Flmae dodged it and scratched it then blasted it with an ember attack. I grinned keeping a few thoughts to myself then winced as Flame was hit with a seismic toss. He got up and slammed the machop with an iron tail then scratched the crap out of it before it could get up.

The scratches were interlinke to the point it looked as if the poor machop had hit an electified chain link fence then jumped away leaving some of his skin behind. Flame ground and bit down on it's shoulder until we heard a bone break. Then he walked over to me as the machop fainted from pain. The trainer returned his poor pokemon and ran to the pokemon center. I looked at Flame and said "I'm guessing he pissed you off majorly." He nodded and we walked up to the next opponent. He threw out a geodude and I threw out my caterpie who looked around then growled at the geodude. The hiker fell over laughing his but off, however the geodude just watched us cautiously. I smiled slightly and said "Caterpie use string if you wouldn't mind." It nodded and started coating the entire area in sticky string. The geodude moved forward and was snared. I smiled and said "Caterpie coat him in stringshot then tackle him into another web." Caterpie nodded and did as I asked. I smiled slightly then winced as the geodude tried breaking out of it's cocoon to attack caterpie. Caterpie jumped out of the way and I said "Caterpie don't let it get close, use tackle then wrap it with more string shot, and if that doesn't work I've got a few other tricks up my sleeve." Caterpie nodded and again did as I told it to this time being a bit more careful. I knew it was getting tired so I prepared for my secondary plan. Caterpie jumped up and tackled the Geodude then coated it in more stringshot and I wondered how it could keep breathing through all that. Suddenly it stopped moving and I ran over. I ripped the stringshot off of it and the geodude inhaled deeply. Then it passed out.

I blinked and Caterpie walked over. I smiled and it and said " Thanks now return Caterpie you deserve a long rest." It returned to it's ball and I put the ball on my belt. The hiker walked over to his geodude and returned it to it's ball then said "Nice strategy. I didn't think anyone would use what seems to be useless as an effective weapon." I shrugged and relaxed as the hiker paid me and headed to the pokemon center. There was just one person between me and the gym leader. He smiled and siad "I want a two on two pokemon match. Each of us picks two pokemon and whoever's pokemon is last standing wins." I nodded and tossed out my pidgy as Flame walked forward. He through out an onix and a cubone. I blinked and muttered "Not good, not good at all." Flame nodded with a look on his face that said 'my thoughts exactly.' I glanced at Pidgey and said "Carry flame up as high as you can, I guess it's time to try something I was thinking of." Pidgey nodded and slowly flew up into the air. Flame stayed on the ground nad I said "Pidgey change of plans, use sandstorm, Flame use ember." They nodded and did as I instructed.

After a few seconds my opponents Onyx and cubone were trapped in a wall of burning glass. I smiled slightly then sighed and muttered "This saves time, but only until they can break through that stuff. At least it didn't tire out my guys." Flame looked at me and I said "Pidgey cover the top in sand and Flame use ember on it." They did as I asked then I said "A glass box that it takes a lot of effort to get out of I'm betting." Flame growled and burned the ground around him. I started to ask what he was doing when I saw the Onyx dig a huge hole that the cubone followed it into. I nodded in understanding then glanced at Pidgey and said "Be ready to peck that cubone as soon as it gets out." As I spoke the onyx burst through the glass a few feet away from Flame and started roaring in rage. I grinned and Flame blasted it with ember a few times. The onyx started getting enraged and ignored every command it's owner sent at it. It rushed at Flame with a double edge, but he moved infront of the wall then jumped out of the way and hit it in the head with an ember causing it to slam into the wall. I grinned then winced as the cubone's bonemarang hit him in the back of the head and sent him flying into the wall. He slowly got up but blinked when he saw the cubone running around being attacked by pidgey. I grinned slightly and said "Flame ember now!" Flame blasted the cubone with an ember itnot the path of the enraged onyx who started attacking it.

Pidgey slammed into the onyx with a peck attack then start batting it with a gust attack. Flame turned the gust into a raging inferno by using flamethrower on it. I blinked and said "That's twice now that they've made a firespin by working together. I think I have an idea on what to do." I winced as the poor cubone was slammed into the wall of flame over and over again by the angry onyx. Then I shivered when it was sent flying into flame who started scratching the crap out of it in anger. Finally the cubone fainted and the trainer returned it. Flame seemed pumped up and used the same technique as before on the onyx. After a few minutes pidgey started pecking the crap out of the onyx and together the two of them brought it down. I blinked when pidgey started evolving and muttered "He was stronger than I thought, so how'd caterpie beat it?"

Pidgey finished evolving into a pidgeotto and I returned it to it's pokeball then walked forward to face Rorik the guy who'd replaced Brok as the pewter gym leader when he retired. Rorik clapped slowly and said "Interesting, it appears your charmander's almost ready to evolve with all the effort you put him through. Would you like to let your pokemon rest before we battle?" I glanced at Flame who shook his head then shook my own head and popped my neck. Rorik laughed and said " It appears that you two are ready to go. So this will be a three on three pokemon battle, you can change whenever you need to but I'm only allowed to use the pokemon I call. Usual gym rules. Ready?" I nodded and he called out a sandshrew. I smiled slightly as I called out my caterpie. It looked at the sandshrew then back at me and I said "Caterpie be ready bud, we're going to teach him just how strong bug types can be if they know what their doing." It nodded and I grinned slightly. I glanced at the shandshrew and noticed it was underground. I shook my head sighing and said "Caterpie get on the wall and coat the entire area in stringshot." It did as I asked and I subconsciously formed a plan that I figured might just work.

The shandshrew burst out of the ground into the middle of a thing of webbing and I said "Caterpie keep coating hte area in stringshot then tackle Shandshrew* I t nodded and got back to work. I smiled slightly and Rorik stared at me trying to figure out my game. I smiled slightly and suddently my caterpie knocked his Sandshrew back at him. He blinked then said "Sandshrew earthquake." I cursed as caterpie was knocked out by the shaking and covered it as a rock fell from the cieling. I winced feeling the rock sink an inch into my back then looked at caterpie and the others and said "You ok?" they nodded and I returned it to it's ball. I ripped the chunk of rock out of my back and shoved it in my poket then said "Your turn flame, if your up to it." He glared at me then walked forward and stared at his opponent. Rorik returned his sandshrew and threw out a diglet. I grin slightly as the diglet's head ended up stuck in a string of web from caterpie. Flame glanced at me and I said "Flame turn up the heat please." He grinned getting the idea and lit all of the stringshot on fire with a flamethrower attack.

Diglet let out a yelp of pain and went underground. I grinned nad said "Flame fill that hole up with fire and send him flying." He nodded and walked over then blew a flamethrower into the hole until diglet popped out on fire and was returned by rorik. He looked at me and I nodded for flame to come back then the riolu walked out. I looked at her and she nodded as Rorik threw out a golem. I blinked and muttered "So not good." I thought about some papers I'd read on lucario and said "Use an aura pulse little one." She jumped up and blasted the golem in the face with a aura wave, then slammed an aura sphere into it's side sending it flying into a layer of burning stringshot. The golem became enraged and Rorik said "Fireblast golem." I blinked and yelled "GET OUT OF THE WAY NOW!!!"She looked at me then saw the fireblast coming at her. I growled and jumped in the way not caring about the consequences to me just protecting the little riolu from a blast that could kill her. I yelled out in pain but didn't move until the blast was over. Flame walked over and said "I've got good new and bad news Jace. The good news is that wound on your back from the rock was burned shut. The bad news is that your back looks like a charred brisquet. I think we should leave."

I nodded and picked up the little Riolu who's eyes were wide in terror. I'd made sure to push the other two off me when I moved, so they were fine but worried. I growled softly and looked at Rorik then said "THAT WAS LOW!!!!! SHE'S A FREAKING STEEL TYPE, THAT WOULD HAVE KILLED HER YOU IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!" He stared at me and I said softly "This isn't over Rorik, I'll be back for my badge, and for what you nearly did." I picked up the other two and walked out of the room. When we were outside the gym I fell to my hands and knees then spit out a long stream of blood. Flame looked at me and said "Holy Shit Jace! Why didn't you tell us you were that hurt?" I just whiped my mouth off and stood up then pulled the little ones onto my shoulders and the poochyena hopped back onto my head then I headed to the pokemon center. When I got in nurse joy took one look at me and started speaking into a broadcast system. The little riolu wouldn't and the other two wouldn' tlet go of me. I glanced at Flame as I fell onto my face and said "Flame can you get these three off me so nurse joy can do her work? Because I can't move at all." The girls growled at Flame in warning and he said "Yeah, that's one mess of vipers you'll have to deal with on your own." I sighed and said "Then find me some HELP!!!!"

He blinked and ran into the trainer's common room then came back about ten minutes later leading a girl and a zangoose. I stared at them and the girl said "What happened to your back?" I said "I was blasted by a fireblast." Her zangoos said something and Flame translated "Then why didn't you get out of the way." I tried to glare at them and winced as the skin on my back stretched and pulled. I yelled and nurse joy ran over with a squad of chancies. They picked me up and put me on a cart then wheeled it to the emergency room. They slipped a mask over my face then tried to pull the girls away from me. I slowly moved my arm, even though it was killing me, and pulled the mask off long enough to say "The pokemon stay with me. They don't trust anyone else just now." Then pulled the mask back on and inhaled deeply. Nurse joy realized I wouldn't fight if they let the pokemon stay so she moved them up all by my head as she started to peel the burned cloth away from my flesh. After that I passed out from a mix of meds and pain.

When I woke up I was in one of the hospital beds with the girls all laying next to me and watching me. The litle riolu smiled when she saw I was awake and said softly "Thank you." I smiled at her and said softly "A true trainer has to be wiling to sacrifice everything for his pokemon. I would have done the same thing for any pokemon that I thought was in danger." She stared at me then walked over and kissed my cheek. I blinked and she walked out of the room to let Flame and the girl know I was ok. I glanced at the poochyena who said "You know I'm surprised you never tried to name us. I thought you trainers were all about things like that." I shrugged and said "I figured you guys could talk so I'd wait for you to tell me your own names." She grinned and said "I'm dusk. The vulpix is silver, and the riolu is rianna." I started to ask why the vulpix was called slver when I saw her eyes and said "Nice to meet you all. I guess I should ask what you guys were doing in that forest, but really I'm to tired to worry about it."

Dusk grinned and said "I can't believe you took a full power fireblast to your back like that. Most people wouldn't." then started licking my face while silver studied me with questioning eyes. I raised an eyebrow and she said "You don't smell completely human." I started to question her about that and when Flame, Rianna, and the zangoose walked in. Flame sat down in the chair next to me and said "I thought we lost you there bud. So how's it feel to be on the recieving end of a strong fire blast?" I growled softly at him and said "Like being thrown into an oven. Want to try?" He shook his head and covered his mouth. I grinned and said "I guess I understand the question flame. Just wanted to see your reaction if I threatened you. Sorry bout that." He nodded and let out a sigh of relief. I shook my head and said "Flame you are way to easy to scare." He growled at me and said "If it weren't for the fact you're injured and there are ladies present I would bite you." I sighed and thought "And I'd knock youf reaking head offf you overgrown fire lizard." Silver growled at Flame and I said "I don't think the girls like you threatening me hothead, so knock it off."

He nodded and we both burst out laughing. The trainer, her zangoose, and the girls all looked at each other then said "Men..." in unison. I glanced at Flame and he said "Females, what else is there to say?" I smacked him and said "If it weren't for them we'd only have three people on our team, and you're nuts, I'm crazy, pidgeoto is just now evolved, and caterpie can't do very much." He nodded slowly and the girls all smiled at me in appreciation. I bushed and said "What I'm just stating the facts as I see them, without you guys we'd be a lot worse off." The girls smiled and the trainer said "It's surprising to meet a male who's so complimenting of the opposite sex." I looked at her and held out my hand then said "I'm Jace, Jace Shadows, and may I ask who you are?" She smield slightly and said "I'm Maya. My partner here is Lia, and who are your pokemon?" I grinned and said "The hot head is Flame, the vulpix is silver, my little riolu friiend here is Rianna, and the poochyena is Dusk." Everyone said hi as I said their name. Maya blinked and said "You already have three pokemon, most of them are rookies, but still...." I grinned and said "There are seven pokemon on my team. These four, my pidgeoto, my caterpie, and Muk who's back at professor Taylor's."

Maya blinked and said "So you're from Aria town." I nodded and she sat down while her zigzagoon sniffed me. I blinked and asked "Is there something I'm missing here?" She shook her head and the zigzagoon laid down then said "He's not human Maya. Atleast not fully, besides the markings on his face and hands, there's his eyes, and he doesn't smell human." I blinked and asked "What do I smell like?" She shrugged and I laid back on my bed. Maya studied me and asked "So are you going back after Rorik?" I growled softly my eyes seeming ot absorb the light as I said "I'm going to kick that bastards ass for how he treats pokemon. He nearly killed Rianna and he didn't seem to care that Flame and I nearly killed his diglett." She stared at me and I said softly "I can't believe we did what we did, but atleast I only used fire against it instead of trying to drown it. Groundtypes won't die from fire, but steel types will."

Maya glanced at me and said "Mind if we travel with you guys?" I blinked and Maya said "We believe that it might be interesting to travel with a pokemon trainer who cares about pokemon, and a bunch of pokemon who can talk." I glanced at Silver then the others and said "Up to you guys. I don't care either way." Silver shrugged while Dusk and Flame nodded. I turned to Rianna and said "You're the deciding vote, two for one against if you say no then it's just the six of us. If you say yes then they join the group." She closed her eyes and said "I think they should travel with us, but if they try to hurt you I'm kicking their butts." I blinked and Flame grinned while the other girls nodded in agreement. I sighed and said "The team has spoken, welcome to the group Maya and Lia. I'd call out the other two, but right now I think I need some rest." Everyone nodded and left the room except for Dusk, Rianna, and Silver who growled at Nurse Joy when she tried to move them. She sighed and said "Fine, but you three aren't allowed to wake him up. Understood?" They nodded and she walked out of the room turning out the light.

I glanced over at my bag and mummbled "Today was the first time I shed blood for pokemon, but I have a feeling it won't be the last. My back still hurts, yet I feel good about what I did." I shook my head and stared at the cieling thinking "Why didn't that attack or the rock kill me? I think the only way I'll find out is if I talk to the legendaries. Wait, I still remember that bird that flew past Joshua and I, was it really what I think it was. Maybe I should mention it to Doc and see what he thinks. If it really was a legendary, then I guess I'll stick to my plan of finding nad speaking with all the legendaries." then I slipped into a light sleep pulling the girls close out of instinct and thoughts of comfort.

The man shook his head and said softly "I can't believe Rorik would do something like that. I told him to test the kid, not kill his pokemon." He pulled his trench coat tighter around him as a suicune appeared and said "I spoke with Rorik. He said that the boy protected his pokemon and was badly injured by a fireblast attack. However he got up and walked to the pokemon center carrying three of his pokemon. Also before that he jumped in the way of a falling spike to save a caterpie of all things." The man burst out laughing and said "He's just like Ron, risking his life for the smallest of pokemon. Do you think I should show up and talk to him?" The suicune shook her head and said softly "I believe that it would be unwise to interfere, and the boy is starting to travel with a young female trainer." The man shook his head and said "God the kid's worse than Ron. He's got humans and pokemon interested in him, has the arcanine showed up again?" She shook her head and he sighed then said "Let's get back to base and tell them what we know." She nodded and the two of them vanished in a blue wind.

The figure laughed softly as he lowered his hood just enough that the scar over his left eye and his red eyes glowed in the moonlight. He stared at the pokemon center and said softly "Boy you made a strange decision. I have a feeling your life will be very eventful if you keep it up, but where do you go from here? To the pokemon league, or home?" He laughed and said softly "For your sake I hope it's the latter, otherwise I'll have to do whatever it takes to stop you." He laughed darkly and vanished after glancing in the direction where the man and suicune had been only minutes before. When the figure was gone a young female lucario with red fur instead of blue walked out and said softly "My clan told me to travel with the boy, and after watching what he did earlier. I believe I could follow him. However what will happen to the young girls he protects so ferociously as he gets older and his instincts start to show? I just don't know. What do you think slayer?"

She pulled out a blue blade that glowed and said in a deep masculine voice "I have no idea milady, but I believe he is one of the wielders of the true blades. I believe your clan was right to send us after him." She nodded slowly and the blade continued "He has the will to protect, but he doesn't yet have the power. However, did you notice he has a darker presence inside himself as well as the lighter that draws you to him?" She nodded and said softly "Do you think that he will give in Slayer?" The blade sighed and said softly "For the sake of the world I hope not. However if he does, it will be as much our job as the others to stop him." She nodded and the the blade vanished then she turned to the pokemon center and said "Sleep young warrior, and see what the new day brings. I hope that you are the one arceus told of in his prophecy, but it will all take time to find out. I guess when you go on your journey, you'll finally decide. However I may join you before you get to far, so goodbye for now young Jace." then vanished in a puff of black smoke.
