"-Three long days, three eternally long days of nothing but sex, food and the occasional nap. I feel like I've been through hell and back.-" Ark thought lying there next to what he hoped to be a fully sated and sleeping Lopunny. Everything hurt from his arms down, though he had no real right to complain. He had probably strained his body more in the past couple days than in the previous month. He wasn't all too sure that he'd ever be able to walk normally again, since his legs cramped up painfully every time he tried to stand up and stretch.

He really did want to walk around for a little bit, mostly to vacate the odor that clung to everything inside the makeshift tent. Not that it was a horrid smell or anything; it was just intense. Sweat mingled with their own sexual juices and a dash of saliva. Ark was afraid that any more would bring his body into another sexual frenzy and through it Terra would only obey as his own feelings permeated her body. He knew all too well that urges passed through their link as easily as the normal feelings, or perhaps more.

He tried every which way to escape from Terra's clutches and not wake her up, but whatever he tried made her cling on to him tighter as if even in sleep she still knew he was trying to get away. Finally, after a while he figured out a way to both escape and keep her asleep. Unfortunately, it also contorted his legs to a position of nearly mind-blowing pain.

"GAH!" Ark yelled out and scooted quickly back into his original position. It seemed like he would be stuck there until Terra woke up and released him from his prison. His mind started to swim as he breathed the heavy-scented air around him and tried with lessening resolve to fight the sexual feelings stirring within him. No matter what he did, he couldn't help but feel aroused.

Almost an hour passed before Terra even started showing signs of waking up. Ark could almost taste the fresh air that his lungs would fill with in a matter of minutes. The Lopunny relaxed the grip she had on her lover who then scampered out of the tent to make their morning meal, hopefully before she fully awoke.

"Tired?" The Duskull asked in her strange voice. Her tone suggested that it was a rhetorical question but Ark answered it regardless.

"Yeah, I'm pretty tired. It's been a while since I've had that much grueling labor."

Raven giggled softly. "Not the word I would use but I suppose it is."

"Then what word would you use?"

"Exhausting, three day long, heavy, heat-induced sex... Sorry, that was several words." Raven giggled again and floated around Ark. "Tell me the truth Ark, are you offended by what I say sometimes?"

"I'm not really offended; just a tad embarrassed."

"That's good because I'm only going to get worse from here on out." Raven laughed whole-heartedly and disappeared from the area.

"-As long as you are aware of how much you can get away with.-" Ark remarked inwardly, as much as he liked Raven he wasn't about to let her insult himself or Terra. Teasing about sex and being impish were perfectly fine but insults of any kind weren't anywhere close to being acceptable by his terms. Well, maybe some innocent playful ones were.

The campfire had long since gone out but that was just fine since he probably would have extinguished it when he'd gotten up anyway. The sun was already blazing to the point where a fire would be unnecessary. He had other ways to cook. He had other ways to cook. It pleased him that he knew enough to be self-reliant and live of the land until the first freeze, provided he could find a decent supply of edible plants and water

There was a thin woody smell in the air now; he quickly identified the source of it as he looked at the bottom of an old looking oak tree.

"Morels!" Ark exclaimed, excited to find one of his favorite mushrooms so close to camp. Where there was one there were always more. Unfortunately, in his excitement, he also woke Terra from her peaceful slumber.

"You better have a good reason for waking me up!" Terra grouched, showing her ugly side immediately upon waking up. Ark instinctively cowered. She was obviously still extremely tired, and grumpy to boot.

"Sorry, Terra." Ark mumbled, unsure how to deal with her in her current state. "I promise I wont shout again. It's just I found these mushrooms that my uncle and I always hunted for a few days after it rained. You can probably head back to sleep; I promise that you'll sleep soundly without another sound from me."

Terra grimaced and started crawling back inside but stopped about halfway, as she figured she probably wouldn't be able to fall asleep again. It was probably better to wake up fully. "I might as well stay up." Terra grumped.

"Whatever you wish, my love." Ark said ignoring her attitude and resuming his search for more morels. His mouth watered at the thought of freshly deep fried morels with a little cheese sauce for dipping. It wasn't really a meal that could be considered 'wholesome and nutritious' but it was worth all the nastiness that came with fried foods. He'd have to stop at the Eterna General Store and pick up some oil and breading. Also, he might as well see if Raven would be willing to fight for him. If so, he might stand a chance at obtaining a badge. Ark stopped himself before he got too carried away. He knew that Terra was too tired for any sort of grueling exercise, and that it would be best to be at peak performance when they did challenge the Gym.

Ark plucked a substantial sized morel that he'd somehow missed in his search. "Terra... would you be offended if I battled with Raven today?"

"Why would I be?" Terra asked, forgetting her grumpiness for a moment, overpowered by curiosity.

"I thought you might be since... it well... I don't know. I just thought you might be for some reason." Ark floundered around trying to find the words for it.

"I wouldn't ever mind. It's part of your duty as a trainer. I wouldn't force you to use only me just because I love you and I do want to fight for you. I'm strong but I need breaks inside of battles as well as outside. Being balanced is the key to victory; never force one to bear the entire load when there are others willing to help."

"Too true... I'm sorry I've been forcing you to fight so much."

"Don't be." Terra commanded while giving Ark the 'look.'

Ark opened his mouth about to say something; however the 'look' caught him fully and kept him from speaking. The look was something Ark was positive every female knew regardless of age or experience. He was also quite certain that even a female child that had been isolated from all contact with the entire world could still use it.

"Train her and let me rest during battles as well as outside of them." Terra's oppressive glare reduced to nothing as she lazed by their fire pit.

A rustling snapped Ark out of his deep mushroom collecting trance. He'd already filled a good portion of his pack with fresh morels and it had hardly been an hour since he'd left camp.

"Quiet! Don't move!" A quiet little voice snapped, trying to hold some authority through the fear blatantly advertised through its voice. "Don't let him hear you!"

"Hello?" Ark called in the direction of the voice.

"RUN!" The voice bellowed followed by a quick scampering. Then just as suddenly whatever it was stopped dead in its tracks. Overwhelmed by curiosity, Ark crept towards the sound.

Ark knew that sooner or later, among other things, his curiosity would be his downfall. He couldn't help it; if something caught his attention and it was unknown, he simply had to figure out who or what had caused it.

Ark froze, stunned by absolute fear. Raven had done something -- not change her form, but she had changed in a different way. Ark couldn't even begin to describe her terrifying presence; nothing could. He wanted to scream and run for the hills, anything to flee this monster. If only his legs would work!

"What were you doing here?" Raven asked calmly, but she might as well have screeched it. At least then it would have fitted the mood. Every word she said was drowned in infinite evil.

A small Eevee and a Vulpix clutched each other tightly. Fear marked their every movement and displayed itself in every word they spoke. "We w-w-were hungry," they cried pathetically. "A-and curious too." They wailed after Raven gave them another look. Ark felt pained to see them like this and he longed to go over there and ease the two little ones' fear and maybe give them a decent meal to boot.

Ark's pity wrestled with his fear in what seemed like an endless bout, but in the end pity won. It filled his body with the strength to move and rush up to Raven, interrupting the two Pokémon's view of the ghost and allowing them to scamper away into a nearby hollow log. This interruption also gave him the full blast of Raven's horrid gaze. It felt as if he'd been dipped into freezing water and into a fire at the same time.

"Ark?!" Raven shouted, clearly surprised. "What are you doing?" Her entire being changing back into the impish nature and look he was used to by now. It still did little to remove the almost mind-numbing appearance still burning in his mind.

It took Ark some time before he was able to completely process the question through his addled head. "I couldn't stand seeing them like that." He gestured to the two little Pokémon still shuddering in the log. "I... just couldn't stand it... I had to do something. Something to protect them."

Raven's eye narrowed to a very thin slit. "I see. I see who you are more than ever now. You truly do care about all Pokémon. That's why you gave Terra and I our choices. You aren't perfect but you're better than the majority in that aspect." She said thoughtfully.

"Thank you." Ark replied unsure of what to say. "I think you should let these two go about their business. They haven't done anything wrong."

Ark could have sworn Raven grimaced. "I suppose they haven't... yet. I will leave them, but the second you say you're missing something, I will laugh." Venom dripped from her voice. Raven then floated away, silently muttering something unintelligible.

Slowly the Vulpix crawled out of the log. It had recovered much quicker than its companion. The Vulpix no longer seemed like a scared child; it now had the aura of a caring sibling. A protective sibling that would sooner sacrifice themselves that let anything happen to its family.

"Thank you." She said in a cautious tone. Her voice seemed as much adult as it was feminine and nothing at all like the childish voice he'd heard while they were pouring their souls out to Raven.

"Umm... not a problem, I guess." Ark shrugged. This was obviously not his day for talking.

The Vulpix's eyes twinkled in the spotty sunlight that enhanced her deep black eyes. "You are young, but you care for our kind as if you were an elder. Tell me who raised you?"

"My uncle." Ark said automatically.

The Vulpix whispered something under its breath. "He raised you well then." She said. "I don't know how or why, but I can tell there's something... off about you."

She trotted over by his legs and sniffed him in several places, two of which caused Ark to blush. "So... You are mated to the one that harmed one of my kin. It's interesting that we meet today. Just before that ghost came along I had found out who was to blame for the agony my sister was in. I was just about to swear an oath to avenge her. Your ghost must have noticed this and stopped me thinking I was trying to steal something. I played off of that to throw her off. It worked until... that look." The Vulpix shuddered. "Fear can destroy a mind of a child, and occasionally the mind of an elder. I would have lost mine had you not interrupted that ghost. Even though your mate has harmed my kin, which I'm sure you don't remember, I cant help but feel as if I should forgive her because of your actions."

"That's great." Ark replied warmly, but deep down he knew that he was just covering up some buried sadness. How many Pokémon had Terra harmed while protecting him? How many would want blood from what he'd done to their kin? It was difficult to grasp how many enemies he'd made and how many he would make.

"Yes, I suppose it is, but keep in mind that I am only forgiving because of what you prevented. I still hold the knowledge that your mate harmed my kin. I forgive her but I have no other kindness for her." The Vulpix said daring the human to say otherwise.

Ark shrugged. "Thank you then. I appreciate the knowledge that you've forgiven her. I'll see you around, I guess."

"For you and your mate's sake... I hope not." The Vulpix left and comforted the shaking Eevee inside the hollow log. Ark took that as a sign to leave so he headed back to camp. Raven quickly found him after he walked away.

"She lies. She oozes deceit and trickery. I don't have much say in your feelings but I would never trust those foxes. They seem to only say something that will better themselves in the long run."

Ark kept silent. As much as he wanted to trust what Raven said, he couldn't believe that the Vulpix would have said those things for her own gain. From his point of view there was no connection between the Vulpix and him that either party would profit from. He didn't dismiss what Raven had said, as it was entirely possible that he couldn't see a connection that Raven could, and he had no idea how long Raven had been in the wild drawing knowledge of the different species' traits.

"You're thinking. Good. Better to think on advice than act immediately. Unless you're talking about mating." Raven was already back to her impish nature.

While Ark chuckled, flushing beet red, a soft and rather sexy mass of fur and flesh tackled him and pinned him against the ground. "That's right!" Terra smirked.

Almost as if guided by basic instinct, he plastered a kiss right upon Terra's lips, her fur tickling him delicately before he rolled her over forcefully. "The tables have turned." He beamed.

"I suppose they have, Master. What shall I do for you today?"

Ark frowned. Even though he knew the 'master' thing was playful, it still bugged him. "Today, we train like never before."

Training was normally done with other Pokémon from other trainers or the wild. Today was different. Ark could feel it in his bones. Something about the world felt right to try something new. "All right, I need you over here Raven, and Terra you need to be straight across from her. Raven, I need you to attack Terra with Confuse Ray as many times as possible. Terra, you simply need to dodge."

Raven looked all too pleased to comply. Terra, on the other hand, looked at Ark like he'd been smoking something mind-numbing. She smiled very thinly and nodded in a way that made Ark positive he'd pay for this later.

Raven began her assault without warning, fervently attacking Terra in desperation to score a direct hit. Terra dodged expertly and quickly began studying Raven, trying to find a way to predict her attacks.

Every bit of Terra's body was moving around, sweat eagerly dampened her skin much quicker than she'd anticipated. Raven never seemed to tire as she threw the dammed orbs at her. She knew it would only be a matter of time before one hit her, but she had to prove herself before that happened. Finally she figured out Raven's weakness; her eye always followed where she was going to attack, not her target as Terra had originally thought.

It felt too easy after that point to dodge everything. She felt cocky enough to add some flair into her dodges. Flair was good in some cases where showing off wouldn't harm anything but Terra was soon slammed with a Confuse Ray after she stumbled on a rock she'd cartwheeled onto. Her vision blurred and doubled; she felt as if she was falling and dizzy. Sounds were the oddest. Some sounded faint and others sounded deafening and all of them sounded backwards. She heard a shout from Ark that jumbled around her head, fusing into something like "Come here."

Terra stumbled over to Ark and slurred her question on why he wanted her over there and accepted a spritz of strange medicine. Everything was back to normal in a mere instant. "I think I learned something."

"Not to try and be Ark's private dancer while you're trying to avoid something?" Raven asked smugly.

"Cut her a little slack. She did pretty good." Ark remarked.

"For an amateur." Raven replied quickly, before a glowing fist from Terra punctured the top of her head. Raven's head quickly reformed as soon as Terra withdrew her balled up fist. "Attacking ghosts 101: You can't harm 'Ghost' Pokémon with 'Normal' attacks and 'Ghosts' can't harm 'Normal' Pokémon." Raven giggled nervously, surprised at the power of the attack. Even though it couldn't affect her physically, it was still a shock to feel the immense amount of power surging through her body.

Terra apologized after a while. She begged forgiveness for her actions and promised to keep herself in check from now on. Raven also sought forgiveness from Terra. She had also acted without much thought to other people's feelings. It took a while for both of them to settle down and get back to training.

Ark drilled them on everything he could think of, focusing heavily on evasion and speed. To him it seemed more important to wear the opponent down and focus on self-preservation than full aggression.

Both Terra and Raven thought it was very odd that they weren't trying to bulk up. They both already felt capable of dodging almost anything that any opponent threw at them. It took a while before Terra figured the true reason for the focused training. Ark had plans to challenge the gym leader in Eterna. Gym leaders must be elite in order to obtain and keep their position. They fight several times each day, perhaps more, and their Pokémon have pushed the limits of their races' capabilities from all the scrapes they've been in. Terra thought she was strong since nearly any opponent was easy to handle, but looking at it from another perspective she was fighting Pokémon that were either very weak or ill-trained. That alone made all the difference in the world.

Terra told Raven what she thought the reason was, and she slowly (not because Raven didn't understand, but more because she was focusing on taking Terra down) nodded, accepting the reasoning.

Everyone settled down once the sun disappeared past the horizon and dusk settled in. Ark quickly started a fire and cooked, watching the coals and their hypnotic ribbons of red, yellow, and white twist around. He'd always loved the legends his uncle told him of the great phoenix Moltres rising from the ashes and coals of its former self, shedding off its dull coat into something truly new. It was a passionate story told lovingly to him, as it had obviously held great meaning to Draven because at times when his uncle recited it, a tear or two fell upon his lap followed quietly by a few more.

Ark toyed with reciting it for Terra and Raven but eventually decided against it. It wouldn't feel the same if he played storyteller instead of his uncle. He didn't have the knack for it.

"I think I'm going to bed." Ark announced feeling down, though for the life of him he couldn't identify why. Maybe after a good rest he'd feel better or at least figure out why he was bummed.

"It's odd that you want to sleep this early, but if that's what you think you need, then do it." Terra gave him a quick hug and kiss goodnight and let him rest peacefully. After a while she joined him.

Oddly enough he did feel much better after a good rest. The days started merging together again after that; wakeup, train, sleep, wakeup, train, sleep. The pattern repeated daily until Ark could find nothing more to improve his teammate's agility. Finally Ark halted Raven's training, which was her dodging every move the Lopunny made without fail regardless of the fact it wouldn't hurt her even if it did.

"We're done. There's not a thing we can teach ourselves now. I think now it's time to pit our strength against the Eterna Gym." Terra perked up at hearing Ark's plan. This was her chance to shine against an enemy that would push her body to the limits.

"You seem confident in us." Raven for once sounded pleased with something that Ark had said after their training.

"Why shouldn't I be? You've both worked yourselves to the bone at my command while I have expected you to turn on me and unleash hell."

"The mere thought..." Raven paused, grinning like a madwomen. "Hasn't even crossed my mind... Until now."

"It has crossed mine, o keeper of my heart." Added Terra delicately. She spoke with such a succulent tone that Ark was convinced she was seducing him. A horribly dark and terrible seduction that would probably involve him being tied to a bed, being whipped 'til he loved it. However, he thought that a very outlandish possibility; surely Terra wouldn't do something like that to him.

Ark chucked very thinly as their stares of soreness and resentment were fixed upon him. "Listen, I'll make it all worth it after the gym battle. Anything you want you can have."

"We'll see." Raven replied, obviously not convinced it would be worth it.

Ark felt horrid for making them exert any more energy but they had to do something before they became completely stagnant and stayed in the forest permanently. He packed up camp, which took a surprisingly short amount of time and finally walked to Eterna. Several trainers offered to battle with him but he respectfully declined, saying that he'd had a rough couple of days and he'd rather just get to town and stay at an inn. A poor excuse but an acceptable one as far as the trainers were concerned. Luckily, they reached town before nightfall but unfortunately the gym had already closed and by the looks of it, not more than 5 minutes from then.

"Damn it!" Ark hit the side of the building. He'd actually been looking forward to testing his training prowess against the leader.

The sliding glass door opened and someone came out "Such a shame. If I'd known you were coming, I could have probably brought a few people back for some after hours battling." The woman said with a tinge of guilt. "At least I assume that's why you're here and why you swore at my gym." She was a normal looking person with plain brown hair, brown eyes, mostly flat chest, and a pale complexion.

"I guess it's for the best. My Pokémon and I could use a break from training." Ark sighed.

"I suppose if you still wanted to we could battle for my badge." The gym leader offered.

"No thanks, ma'am. I think some rest will be good for us all." Ark gestured to Terra and Raven who both looked ready for a good long rest.

"You're making me feel old. Call me by my name; Gardenia." Gardenia laughed. "I've never seen a Lopunny and a Duskull on the same team before." Her eyes kept darting upon Raven fearfully as if she were afraid of her. Raven smiled gleefully, enjoying the fear she could create even when not trying.

"Yeah, it's kind of odd to see them together but I wouldn't give them up for the world, especially Terra the Lopunny." Ark replied with a surge of pride.

"Well, not to sound impatient, but I'm going home to slam some dinner down. See you tomorrow then... that is if you can get to me." Gardenia left Ark with that.

"Yeah... tomorrow." Ark said to himself, suddenly feeling uneasy. Was his training going to be good enough? "- It has to be. I couldn't think of anything else to improve upon.-" He would have to wait and see what would happen the next day to truly judge himself.
