#3 of Spyro Stories

CW: mild violence

Convexity, aether, fury, whatever you want to call it, it's the most unique element in the Spyro universe. A corruptive element, it holds destructive power. Here's my take on what the main bosses felt when they were struck by it. Naturally it's non canon.

Evil Cynder

_How was this even possible? _

Breathing heavily, her body felt weak and sluggish.

_I'm the Terror of the Skies! I have so much power at my disposal! _

Her opponent stood in front of her, determination etched into his figure.

All this dark energy that made me who I am, allowed me to get this far to free my master, was it all for nothing.

She slowed her breathing down, narrowing her gaze on the dragon in front of her, fury in her eyes.

No_. _

_I refuse to lose. Not when my master is so close to being released. _

I have some power left, if I can gather it up and release it as a fury, even this nuisance cannot hope to survive.

It wouldn't take her long, she'd just have to keep her distance and make sure Spyro didn't touch the vortex in the center and disrupt it, or her master wouldn't get the chance to be freed.

She started to gather the energy inside herself, coalescing it to a single point to be released.

Yet the little purple dragon wasn't moving.

What is he doing? Waiting for me to strike so he can counter? The fool.

Cynder reared up on her hind legs as she felt her power growing. In a single stroke, she'd be able to wipe this hatchling out. It would leave her weak, but as long as she did her duty to her master, she didn't care.

But as she was ready to release her fury, Spyro struck first.

He rose into the air, eyes closed. The atmosphere around him seemed to shift and warp. This was unlike any attack he had dealt before.

This was much, much different.

What is this...?!

A glowing ball of energy formed above Spyro, growing progressively larger. It had an aura around it she couldn't quite place, but it was certainly dangerous.

And as if that wasn't strange enough, once the orbs had gotten big enough, massive dragon heads were spat out, flying towards her.

The absurdity of what was happening distracted her from what she was doing. She had no time to react as she was suddenly struck by one of the huge heads.

It passed right through her, leaving no physical wound or mark as it did so. Instead she could feel the attack in her soul.

She gasped as each head took a turn going through her, tearing at the very fabric of her being. As each head went through, she could feel more and more of the dark energy inside of her getting sucked out until nothing remained.

She collapsed on the ground, vision fading.

Master, forgive me...

Gaul

"What are you waiting for, dragon?" He shouted. "Finish me!"

The welpling, turned black by the dark energy he had fallen into, didn't move.

Gaul chuckled to himself. "Coward!"

When they had fallen to the lower level, the dragon had gotten caught in the beam of pure energy used to bring the dark master back. His small body had been flooded with dark power, turning his scales black and eyes blindingly white.

The welpling had gotten an increase in power, but it seemed that his ideals of heroism were still stuck in his small brain. He refused to kill.

How weak.

Gaul rose to his feet, laughing again. If the dragon refused to kill him, than he would have to kill the dragon.

Brandishing his bladed gauntlets above his head, he stalked towards the young dragon, ready to deliver the finishing blow.

But when he got close, Spyro opened his mouth and released a beam of energy again, like he had during their fight.

But this attack blew Gaul back. He jabbed one gauntlet into the ground to slow himself down and used his other arm to protect his face. He tried to push back against the beam, but he couldn't get enough grip.

Where did this power come from?!

The exposed parts of his body started to grow numb. He didn't know what was happening, had the welpling finally decided to end his life?

The attack suddenly ended, giving Gaul a mild reprieve. He breathed heavily, stunned by what had just happened.

Across from him, Spyro rose into the air. Power flooded out of his body as he prepared for another attack. But this one was different. The amount of energy required for what he was doing couldn't be contained inside his body. It seeped into the air and ground, pillars of light shooting up randomly from where the energy coalesced.

Gauls eye widened as the welpling flapped his wings. The dark power inside the dragon shot out in a visible wave that distorted the air around it.

Gaul was struck by the wave and his body was frozen completely in place. He could only watch as a second wave came barreling towards him, and everything went dark.

Malefor

"You cannot defeat me! I am eternal!"

Who knew that a fight with two children would prove to be so difficult? One was a traitor and the other was a purple dragon shirking his duties to bring a new world.

They had ended up deep within the volcano, far beneath the surface of the earth. Strange purple crystals protruded from the walls and floor of the vast cavern they had ended up in.

Its time to end this.

Opening his maw wide, Malefor released a torrent of dark energy. He would have to overwhelm these two with his own power.

However, the two dragons countered with the same dark energy, bringing both attacks to a standstill.

Pitiful.

He was over 100 years old! If they thought they could overpower him, than they were mistaken. He would end their lives here and fly back to the surface to watch the world break apart.

Waves of energy pulsed outward as the beams of chaotic power clashed, struggling to gain dominance over each other. There was so much light and radiating energy coming from their attacks that it was hard to see.

In fact, Malefor just barely saw the young dragons attacks overpower his own.

He was hit in the face and blasted backwards, landing hard on one of the purple crystals.

_I've underestimated them. _

Getting to his feet, he glared at dragons above him. It seemed that they had more control over their power than he had originally thought.

No matter. He was still leagues ahead of them. He would beat them down until they had exhausted their energy. Once that happened, he would finish them both off. Or perhaps he'd leave them down here to be killed as he reformed the planet.

Nothing would stop him.

He took a step forward, ready to attack once more when several brilliant flashes of light illuminated from the crystal below him. Five ethereal dragons rose from the gem, hovering in a ring around Malefor.

"What is this?"

The ghostly dragons glared at him. They reminded him of...

No.

It couldn't be.

The elder dragon masters that had trained him when he was a boy. The same masters that had kicked him out of the temple because they feared his quest for power. We're these really them?

Without hesitation, the beings dived toward Malefor. Passing through his body, they disappeared back into the crystal below him, dragging him down with them.

Malefor dug his claws into the gem, trying to keep himself from being sucked in, but it was no use.

"Nooooo!" Was all he managed to shout before he was taken under entirely.
