King and Queen Stoneback meet Verge and Gen. The raptors then meet the cloaked mercenary friend of Crystal.

POV Crystal The first thing I was soon aware of as I woke up was the knocking on the door. I quietly groaned in annoyance, I wish I could just tell them to come back later, but I still remembered that last time I did that and dad hadn't been too happy. I dragged myself out of bed and shambled to the door while rubbing my eyes. I opened the door with a loud yawn. "And good morning to you as well Crystal." It was Kasey and I felt it was far to early for his wit. "What is it Kasey?" "Your father asked me to come inform you that breakfast with be held a bit earlier and that you'll be having guests." "Who are they?" "Not certain. Just know that one of them is a nobleman's daughter." "Okay, I'll be down soon." Kasey gave a short bow before leaving. I shut the door and rubbed my eyes again in the vain attempt to wake up faster. As I changed out of my sleepwear and into a simple red dress, I wondered who was here that dad felt was important enough to hold breakfast a couple hours earlier than usual. With a pair of sandals on my feet and crown on my head, I headed out the door and toward the dinning hall. I was going through the main hall when dad ended up calling me aside. "Come now Crystal. Look alive, we have a very special guest." I was unable to stop the yawn that came out, though I at least managed to cover my mouth and muffle most of it. "Come. They are already in the dining room with your mother and it would be best not to keep them waiting any longer." Stepping into the dining room, I was shocked to see who our guests were: Genesis and Vergence. I was instantly awake and confused as to why they were here. Genesis stood up from the table and bowed before me. "Ah. Princess Crystal, it is an honor to finally meet you. Your mother was just telling me and my associate about you." "R-right." I was honestly dumbfounded by this turnaround compared to when we met yesterday. "Come now dear, there is no need to stand there like some raptor brute. You remember Lord Kane correct? This is his daughter Genesis." "It's nice to meet you. I've heard a lot of good things about your family." I replied. "Crystal, you used two contractions in your reply." Mom interjected. I noticed Vergence's obvious annoyance, while Genesis remained neutral. Regardless I sat at the table and the meal was filled with some small talk from mom and dad toward Genesis. Me and Vergence remained quiet and chose instead to eat though it very much felt awkward the whole time and I noticed that Vergence was trying to be on his best behavior and use his best manners. Yet I could still tell that mom and dad weren't too impressed. "So what brings you here to Scarlett City, Genesis?" Mom asked. I was kinda worried as to how Genesis would answer cause apparently her dad had put out a bounty on her and Vergence, demanding she be taken home so I was uncertain how she'd convince them that Lord Kane had allowed her to leave home. "I left home to see the rest of Kalmarsh. My father disagreed with me, but I still did so regardless." Complete honesty it seemed was how she was going to handle it. Mom and dad of course looked very displeased with her. "You left without your father's permission?!" Dad exclaimed. "Yes. What I wanted to do with my life differed from what he wanted. So me and my friend Vergence here, decided that we'd both leave home and travel together." "Your adventure is over. You will remain here in the palace until a message is sent to your father and he arrives to take you home." "No, I won't." Genesis replied in a firm voice. "Yes you are." Dad stated. "There is no need for you to be acting like some stubborn raptor. Just-." "Will you just shut the hell up already?" Vergence snapped. "What?! You filthy commaner, you dare interrupt me?!" Dad shouted. "Do you realize who I am?! You need to-." "Show you some respect? No. You haven't earned my respect. You're nothing more than a windbag and a hypocrite. Talking shit and looking down on dragons, raptors, and other reptiles but when one of them is a noble you worship the ground they walk and believe that every other reptile should be a stuck up piece of shit like them." Vergence retorted and the tension in the room was thick and heavy as dad was intent on staring Vergence into submission, but he wasn't backing down. "Let's go Gen." He said as he stood from his seat. Genesis followed suit, gave a short bow in apology and left the room with Vergence. With them gone, dad practically exploded with anger and went on to rant about how disrespectful Vergence was and how naïve Genesis was for thinking there'd be anything for her beyond the life of a noble. I mostly tuned it out and continued eating, though I wondered if this would keep Genesis from meeting with me this afternoon. Once I had finished eating I left the dining room, leaving mom and dad to keep ranting about ungrateful and dimwitted raptors. As I neared my room, I was intercepted by Kasey. "One moment Crystal." "Need something Kasey?" "I was asked to pass this along to you." He pulled a folded piece of paper from his right pocket and held it out to me. "Who's it from?" I asked as I took it. "Lady Genesis. She and her friend approached me and we had a nice conversation with each other before being asked to pass that letter along to you. Though I assume it has to do with you heading into the city, correct?" "Well, I mean..." "Lady Genesis already confirmed it when I asked her about it." "Kasey I-." "You don't need to explain anything to me. I understand why, just be careful. Even with the three individuals you met, don't do anything to get into trouble let you end up with a whole slew of problems." "I understand Kasey." He gave a nod, before heading off. I stepped into my room and unfolded the letter. "Crystal, sorry about earlier but I couldn't keep quiet any longer. Me and Gen still plan to spend the day with you, but your going to have to leave on your own. We'll be waiting for you outside the high class district an hour after noon. See you then, Vergence." I was glad that after earlier, they weren't too put off by dad to not accompany me today and I wasn't upset that Vergence started arguing with dad, he had been willing to speak his mind to them not caring about holding his tounge, something I wished that I could do. Regardless, I still needed to find some way of passing the time until then. POV Onyx I moved through the crowded streets and silently cursed my decision to do so. Then I ended up spotting Crystal looking around the area as if she was looking for someone. I headed her way, though I had a feeling who she was looking for. "Crystal." "Ahhh!" She cried out in surprise before turning to face me. "Onyx you dick!" "Not my fault your jumpy." I quipped with a chuckle. She huffed in annoyance before speaking. "Thought you had things to do, hence why I wasn't going to be seeing you." "And I do. I just happened to notice you here waiting for someone." "A pair a friends I made yesterday. You remember seeing them right? The raptors?" "I remember. Neither of them have tried hitting on you have they?" "Not exactly. Admittedly I did have Genesis, the female raptor that is, complement me on my butt and I thought she had a nice looking one too." I smirked at her embarrassment and decided to push it further a little more. "And the male? What about him?" "W-well.... Vergence is very handsome and he isn't afraid to speak his mind. Wouldn't mind if him or Genesis were to chase me down, pin me to the ground and make me their prey." Her cheeks were a light red. "Oh that so?" Crystal's whole face turned as red as her scaled back and she whirled around to see the two raptors strolling over. "Got to say that's pretty flattering to hear but also a tad surprising coming from you princess." The male remarked with a teasing tone. "I-. I wasn't-. I didn't mean-. What I meant was-." Crystal rambled in embarrassment. I laughed alongside the two raptors, while Crystal huffed and started to stew in embarrassment and annoyance. "Relax Crys. Were just messing with you. Though you could introduce us to your friend here?" "Guys, this is Onyx. Onyx, this is Vergence and Genesis." "Nice to meet you both. Crystal didn't end up being too much trouble yesterday did she?" "She ran afoul of some unsavory individuals, but me and Verge helped her out of it." Genesis remarked. "Glad to hear it. She ended up running into trouble when I met her as well." "Well, given her history it kinda makes sense." Crystal was about to say something in response until Genesis cut her off. "So if you don't mind me asking, what's with the whole cloak and cowl?" "I've earned a lot of jealous rivals and I've found it easier to do business in towns when my race isn't being brought into consideration. I have had to deal with some people treating me like shit just because I have scales instead of fur." "I know how that feels." Vergence remarked. "Though I think the worst are the type of people who shit on a specific race, but at the same time praise a specific person even if they're someone of the aforementioned race." "I agree. I've run into people who talk so much shit on dragons and raptors but at the same time are praising the Kaiber family and it's members despite all of them having been raptors and dragons." I remarked. "Really?" Crystal asked. "I think so. I admit that I'm not to good with our history, kinda find some things hard to remember." Vergence remarked. "If I remember correctly, the first Kaiber to settle here in Voval was a raptor." "Correct. Katlin Kaiber and her husband was a dragon or so the story goes." I could tell Crystal was somewhat confused. "Wait, so there are records of who the Nine Heroes were and what species they were but not who they married after founding Voval?" "It does seem rather peculiar, I agree. Regardless I should be going." "You sure?" Genesis asked. "We'd be willing to let you join us." "I appreciate it, but I have things that need done so I'll be going." "Take care Onyx, and be careful." Crystal remarked as I left. I raised my left hand to give a wave in reply. Third Person POV For the next two weeks, Crystal grew to enjoy the company of Vergence and Genesis and she even ended up learning how to wield a lance from Vergence. She had asked the two to teach her as she was interested in learning how to fight if it became necessary to do so and she learned that lances were a better fit than swords. She had also asked about learning magic from them but was told that neither raptor was as that adept at noticing, unlocking and teaching it. Mentioning how their teacher from the school in Coastal City had been the ones to recognize and unlock their potential, though the one that had done the majority of teaching had been their dragon friend Dusk. Regardless, as Crystal sat in her room, she found herself wondering about what today would hold for her and her raptor friends. Unaware of the storm that was about to hit.
