Brothers till the End of Time

By J.C. Solis

The Cave of the Lost was a foreboding place for any living pokemon to enter. Countless explorers have entered the cave, with almost none coming out to tell the tale. The bones of the dead are said to be spread over the entirety of the cave; explorers who had gotten lost and could no longer find their way out. Their spirits are now damned to forever wander the cave, searching for a way to escape. Those spirits who are said to be closer to the entrance - those who were just so close to coming out - are said to be somewhat benevolent, telling explorers to turn back while they still knew the way. Further in, however, the spirits are said to be more malevolent and, sometimes even, plain evil, their souls having been corrupted due to when in life they were driven mad as they aimlessly tried to find either the exit or the very thing they searched for:

The legendary Fountain of Wishes.

Many explorers have searched the sinister cave for the fountain, hoping to make their wishes come true. However, one catch goes that only those with pure hearts could ever reach the fountain to have their sole wish granted--for if anyone with evil intentions were to make their wish, the world itself could be plunged into darkness. The wish the explorer planned on wishing would have to be good and reasonable. Any Greed, Lust for Power, or Malevolent desires would cause the person to be lost in the cave, never to come back out.

But three explorers, who did have good intentions, were getting close--closer than any pokemon has gotten to reaching the fountain in centuries... A Raichu, Seviper, and Sandslash exploration team were heading further into the cave tunnel, not knowing what will lay at the end. It could be a dead end, like the various ones they came upon, but if the map that they had was of any indications, then the fountain was up ahead.

"Edge, you think we're getting close?" said the Raichu.

"We should be, Chase" said Edge the Sandslash. "The fountain should be close by."

"I think I see a glowing light up ahead," confirmed the Seviper. "I can even feel a power coming from that light."

"I feel it too, Sly," said Chase the Raichu. "Come on. Let's hurry!"

The three adventurers were finally on the right track. And the wishes they planned on making the to the Spirit of the Fountain was clear on their minds. The light Sly the Seviper said was ahead was getting brighter as the three ran down the corridor. Though nothing could be seen yet, a powerful force could be felt beyond that light, meaning that the fountain was soon at their reach. When the three entered and were consumed by the light, they had to close their eyes momentarily to adjust to the incredible sight that lay before them. A massive antechamber, surrounded by gleaming crystals, was what greeted the three explorers, and in the middle was a bright pool with water from the spring being blasted to the ceiling, crashing onto rocks as it came down and forming several rivers of water that crashed down to the pool.

"We made it!" squealed Edge.

"Dude, I know, right?!" replied Sly excitedly.

Chase went up to the spring, realizing that the being that would grant their sole wishes would be sleeping in it. To summon the wish granter, one had to say a certain phrase, and every person who wanted a wish had to say it. But only one wish would be granted to one person in their life, so apart from it being pure, it must be worth the effort of braving the Spirits of the Dead and the deadly traps that preceded the main spring.

"Ready guys?" said Chase.

"As ever," said Edge.

"Let's do this," said Sly. And at once, the three close friends together uttered the phrase:

"Oh, Wish Bearer, will you please grant us our sole desire."

Suddenly, the water erupted forth as it domed around a bubble that came up, a white luminescent sphere rising and then fading. A figure appeared from the sphere--a Jirachi. "Oh humble explorers," said the Jirachi in a faerie like voice. "I am the Spirit of the Spring. I am to grant you your wish. Now you know well I cannot grant just any wish. It must be pure and benevolent, otherwise I cannot use the spring's power to grant it."

Sly was the first to step forward, knowing his wish fully well was a benevolent one. "Spirit of the Spring," said Sly Sarrilon the Seviper, who all he wanted was to marry the girl of his dreams--a Zangoose named Caroline. "I want to get married to a Zangoose, but Sevipers and Zangoose, as you may know, don't get along all that well. I want to not only marry her, but I also want our families to support us and for peace between my clan and her's."

The Jirachi smiled. "Love is a beautiful thing, but your wish is also for peace and prosperity as well. I will grant it. When you return home, both you and your lover's families will not bless your marriage, but also be brought together by your union. Peace will forever be between your two families."

The eye on the Jirachi's stomach opened, and a bright light, brighter than even the sun itself illuminated the room. When it was gone, Sly was nowhere to be seen.

"Wha- Where is he?!" shrieked Edge.

"He is back in his village, and he is about to ask for his family's blessing to marry his Zangoose lover," smiled the Jirachi. "Now, which one of you is next?"

Edge came forward next. Dylan Edgeworth the Sandslash lived in an impoverished section of the vast and mineral rich Iron Valley. But sadly, the mines of his town have dried up decades ago, and now his family make a living by selling the very worthless rock of their part of the valley. Moving to another place is out of the question, since the Pokemon of Iron Valley were protective of their lands, and working as laborers was out of the question too. The rich mine owners exploited their workers, and few earnings were to be made working another person's mine. His town was slowly becoming a ghost town, and if nothing was done, then his family--after generations of living in the Iron Valley as miners--would have to move somewhere else.

"I know this sounds like I just want to get rich, but hear me out," said Edge. "My family and my town is dirt poor, and I wish that the dried up mines were filled back up with something so we can get our lives back together. I don't want to be rich. I'm not asking for precious minerals to be filling our mines. I'd be okay with mining Iron. All I want is for the lively-hood of my family and town to be brought back. I want us to have food on our tables again. I want my family and my town to continue mining for years more to come, so future generations can eat as well."

The Jirachi once again smiled. "You wish to bring back the glory days of your town so you, your family, and fellow townsfolk can restart their lives and once again be prosperous. You wish not only for yourself, but for others as well. That is very noble of you." The Jirachi then looked at Edge in the eyes and giggled. "Though you asked for Iron, I will fill your family's and town's mines with valuable metals, like copper and silver, though not as valuable as gold and diamonds. The mines will be so full of minerals and metals for many generations to come. Your family will once again be able to feed themselves once more, and your town will once again return to its former glory!" The Jirachi's third eye once again opened, and the light once again filled the room. When it cleared, Edge was no longer to be seen.

"Where is Edge?" asked Chase.

"He is with his family, and his mines are filled to the brim with ore. He and his family will once again have plenty of food to eat, and his town will once more prosper," said the Jirachi "Now what is your wish?" it asked Chase.

Chase stood still, and his eyes began to water. He lifted his arm up and clutched a Thunder Stone shaped Talisman necklace that was around his neck. "I... I-I wish to see my older brother Jase again... one last time."

To this, the Jirachi frowned. "I am sorry, but I cannot resurrect the dead, for that is beyond my power. What else-"

"I know," interrupted Chase. "But even if it's just his spirit, I want to to see him... to thank him for saving my life and giving the strength to help me become strong and save my family from tough times after he died," he said, now close to crying.

The Jirachi once more smiled. "So you wish to show your gratitude to those who have passed, those who have given you strength and have made you what you are now. I believe I can grant your wish, though your older brother Jase will only appear to you temporarily. As said, I cannot resurrect the dead, but showing you his spirit is allowable. "Prepare yourself, for I will now summon Jason Lighton to this world once more."

An orb appeared in front of Chase, and he could feel the power of the fountain summoning his brother from the afterlife for this temporary visit. He then prepared himself to thank his older bro for saving his life, and for inspiring him to become the famous explorer he is now, all those years ago...

"Hey! Let's chase Chase!" said a Pancham child named Billy.

"Yeah. Let's go beat up that loser," said an young male Salandit by the name of Sam.

"No! Leave me alone!" said a little Pichu, and in defense it tried to use Discharge in order to defend itself, but it failed.

"Hahaha! You're too weak to even charge a battery, let alone attack us!" said a young Salandit child. Chase then tripped and fell to the ground. With his bullies so close, he braced himself for the pounding he was to get. But then, a massive Thunder attack crashed to the ground before the mean children could get to Chase, stopping them in their tracks. A large Pikachu stood in between the Pichu and the bullies.

"Try picking on someone your own size, you cowards," said the Pikachu.

"Let's get out of here!" shouted Billy.

"You're lucky that your brother is here, Chase," sneered Sam. "We'll be back for yah when your goody-goody brother ain't around."

Chase got up on his feet and looked up at his older brother Jase, who happened to save him in the nick of time. "Thanks for saving me, Big Brother," said Chase. "I might've been beat up if not for you, Jase,"

"That's what I'm here for, Little Bro," smiled the Pikachu. "I just hope that you're okay."

Then, Chase's ears drooped, as he knew the importance of this day.

"You're going on that Exploration to rescue little Kenna the Espurr from those mean ol' kidnappers, right?"

"Yeah," said Jase with a frown. "But I'm gonna teach those kidnappers a lesson. You'll see," he then smiled. "I know how much you care for Kenna, so I hope to bring her back soon."

At this, Chase blushed. It was no secret he liked Kenna, since they were in the same class and of the same age. They had plenty of play dates and a lot of fun. Unlike Chase, however, she had already developed control for her psychic powers, and didn't hesitate to use them when the bullies came for Chase. About three days ago, Kenna was kidnapped while she was playing in the schoolyard. When the teachers' backs were turned, they somehow lured her towards them and grabbed her without her even letting out so much as a yelp before anyone knew what had happened. Her family and the rest of Lakeshire Town searched for her, and although there were rumors that a shady looking Weavile, Bisharp and Greninja were around, neither them or the little girl were seen again. Then the following day, just as everyone feared, the ransom letter came, asking for fifty thousand pokemon dollars in return for the life of Kenna. Her parents were known for having money, so it was perhaps not a surprise that this would be made to chip at their fortune.

But the family was devastated, and so too was little Chase. He actually saw the faces of the pokemon just before they took her, and indeed they were a Weavile, Bisharp and Greninja--all of which were Dark Type Pokemon, meaning her psychic powers would have no affect on them. A party was then formed to go to the place and retrieve little Kenna, but instead of giving them the money, the party planned on giving the kidnappers a good whooping before capturing and hauling them off to jail for the audacity of kidnapping a little girl. Chase's older brother, Jason--or Jase, as was his pet name--would be joining that party. Jase was an Explorer and Adventurer, and he was a leader of a team known as Team Spark. His team members would be joining him in the search for the little Espurr child, and he planned to use the money from collecting the bounty on the kidnappers' heads so he could buy a Thunder Stone so he could evolve to become a Raichu. He was no stranger to danger, as he and his team have tracked down bandits and other outlaws in the past. With each bounty he claimed brought him closer to being able to purchase a thunder stone.

"I hope she's alright. But-" began Chase, with tears starting to come down his eyes. "I'm so weak... I should've done something, but... but then again, even if I did, I could never fight them back. I'm too weak to use my electricity."

"This isn't your fault, Chase," Jase tried cheering up. "And don't worry about your powers. They'll come at their own time. Just let them come naturally and you'll be strong before you know it!" he cheered. "Well, I think you have to help Professor Watts in his creation of his Lightning Generator, no? I'm sure you're powers will grow with Professor Watts' help."

"Yeah," drooped Chase's ears.

"What's wrong, Chase?"

"I just... well," began the little brother. "Professor Watts is usually too busy to help me. He's busy working on this generator, and he doesn't focus much on me."

"He'll get around to it, so don't worry," replied Jase. "He's your godfather, and he even volunteered to help you with training your powers. Just stick around with him for a while. He'll get around to it. I gotta go, now, Little brother. I gotta prepare for the expedition. See ya, bro," and Jase went home to prepare himself to join the search party.

Chase, meanwhile, could only stare solemnly for a few moments. He only hoped that his brother could save his Espurr friend and that the two could come in peace. Suddenly, he heard the familiar voice of the bullies; it seems they're searching for him now that his protector is gone. Chase decided to make himself scarce, and stealthily went about his way toward the Watt Laboratory. The building was white and had a white and pewter dome on the roof which housed the Professor's Telescope. Just outside the wooden doors to enter the building was a sign that said:

"Watts Laboratory"

"No Solicitors or Trespassing: Violators will Get the Shock of their Lives."

Thankfully, Chase was not trespassing. He was there to act as the Professor's assistant. He opened the door and the sound of buzzing machines and electricity could be heard, despite the fact that the entrance led first to the foyer and office, not the main workshop. He entered inside and met the clerk of the front desk, a Helioptile by the name of Sally.

"Oh hey there, Chase," smiled Sally the Helioptile. "You're just in time. Professor Watts is just about to finish and will soon test the Lightning Generator. You better hurry," she reminded.

"Thanks, Sally," said Chase, and then he headed towards the main door to the workshop. Upon entering the room, the full sound of machinery and electricity was heard. A large Electivire in a white lab coat was in front of a strange rotary device with a large antennae pointed upwards with a large bulb at the end of it. He seemed to take notice of Chase approaching.

"Ah, there you are, Chase. The generator is almost done, my boy!" said the professor jubilantly. He turned around to see the young Pichu, and his face had a definite smile on it. "Son, our hard work seems to be close to fruition. Let's go outside and see it works."

The Godfather and Godson headed outside to the Laboratory Back yard Lot, and placed the small device on top of a cut tree stump. Chase was excited to see if the invention that he and the professor had been working on would summon lightning from the clouds. There was only one small puffy cloud in the clear blue sky, but the Professor knew that it was enough. He flipped the switch and the machine then hummed. An electricity field was forming, and hopefully it will be powerful enough to summon a arc of lightning from that small cloud.

"What's going on, Professor?" said Chase. "The Machine is building up strength. I'll connect the machine to the capacitor bank and hopefully we'll be able to trap some electricity from the sky."

He then connected a very thick electrical cable, which led to a very large bank of capacitors and batteries to try and capture as much of the arc of electricity. Though the capturing bank was vast, it could only carry so much. Though the lightning from the cloud would be much weaker than a typical thunderstorm lightning bolt, it would still be mighty powerful. The two backed away to see if the generator could attract a lightning bolt. Sure enough, a very thin but bright arc, which still shook the air like a fully powered lightning bolt, crashed on the generator's antennae. But the solid copper antennae took the full brunt of the lightning, sending the electricity down the wire and to the banks. Professor Watts took a quick look at the guage on the generator and from there could see how much the power bank was charged with energy. His power system could hold up to a billion volts of power, and the small lightning bolt filled the bank with twenty five million volts, barely one fortieth its capacity.

"It worked!" clapped the Electivire at his success. He then turned around to Chase with a cheery face. "We did it, son! We built a lightning generator and a successful power system to hold the electricity. Though it was small, the bolt's energy will power the lab for three weeks."

Chase smiled slightly, but his mind was on other matters, and the Professor could see this. The professor knew about Kenia's kidnapping and how it devastated Chase; the two were really close.

"You're worried about little Kenna, huh Chase son?"

Chase nodded as he frowned. "And my Big Brother. I just want him to be okay. He's tough, but I'm still worried for him."

At this, the Professor got down in a squat and smiled at the little mouse pokemon. "Go to him then, Chase, while you still have the chance. I know how much you love your brother. It is only fair that you give him your support."

So sending him off, Chase went outside of the workshop back yard and towards home. His family lived on the outskirts of town, next to the main road to the other settlements and regions. When he entered he saw his parents just outside of Jase's room; Jase was preparing to meet his team, as well as join the other rescue parties, for the time being, and they will be gone for quite a while. The Ransom letter gave them the location, but in truth nobody knew how big the size of the kidnappers' band was. Though a Weavile, Bisharp and Greninja were involved, by no means were they the only ones. It was best to go in numbers. Mother and Father Raichu were talking to Jase when Chase entered the room and conversation.

"This trip will be especially dangerous, son," said Father Raichu. "Please be careful."

"Jase?" said the little brother as he came up to the older kin. "Will you be alright? I don't want nothing bad to happen to yah."

"I'll be fine, Chase," smiled Jason, turning to his younger brother. "I know you are super worried about me and all, but your older bro has been on plenty of adventures and rescues."

"Don't get too cocky, Jase," said Mother Raichu. "Who knows what you will face."

"I always try to prepare myself, Mom. I know the risks of not thinking with a clear head," replied Jase. He then reached around his neck and pulled off his personal talisman, one which Father Raichu gave to him at birth. He then turned towards his little brother and handed the talisman to him. It was shaped in the same form as a Thunder Stone, with the lightning crest on it. "Here, Chase. I want you to have this, in the hopes that it will give you strength and the ability to properly channel your powers. "No matter what, little brother, always know that I will be with you. I want you to grow up to become a big and strong Raichu like Dad. You'll never have to worry. If I'm not around, then let this talisman know that you are never alone."

Chase lifted his head up to see his older brother smile back at him, as though he would make sure to keep his promise. Chase smiled slightly, knowing his brother will always help him. Jase left the house and headed toward the town Exploration Guild to meet with the rest of the rescuers.

The time has come to rescue little Kenna from her captors...

Kenna and Chase stood next to each other, holding hands and finally being able to be together once more. She had been at last been liberated, though there was much struggling to set the little Espurr child free. The Rescuers had to face large amount of bandit kidnappers, as they expected; but their power was something that caught them off guard. Many heavy hitting and large pokemon made up the kidnappers' posse, and they gave the rescuers a beat down. Yet despite being caught off guard and overwhelmed at first, the Rescuers beat them back. Re-enforcements came in the nick of time, in the form of Region Marshalls and members of other Exploration guilds, to at last crush the kidnappers and capture them. But the Victory came at great cost, and that was one of the Rescuer's life...

The little Espurr wasn't just holding Chase's hand out of affection, but also out of consolation and comforting. It was this tenderness and care while at the funeral that allowed Chase to maintain his composure, though he could not hold back his tears as the casket passed by his seat and was placed in front of the Pastor of Arceus' pulpit...

...Inside, Jase lay peacefully in death, and had a slight smile on his face; he was no longer enduring pain and suffering.

Out of all the rescuers, Jase was the only casualty. He would be the only death out of both Rescuers and Kidnappers, but he didn't die in the battle, rather he succumbed to a ghost type's Curse move after the battle was done. Ironically, it was due to Jase's efforts that the mission was a success as he had used a Z-Crystal to summon a Five-Million Volt Thunderbolt to utterly decimate the kidnappers and give the rescuers a distinct advantage. But before he could pull off the move, a Gengar bandit cast Curse on him. But this curse cast on Jase was not a normal one, for it was not the typical painful curse that would go away on it's own after many hours or even a full day of pain. Jase was cast the forbidden Death Curse, and though he was brought back to Lakeshire Town to be treated--and though the Pastor of Arceus was able to break the curse through holy powers--it was already to late. The curse had caused extensive internal and external damage.

Though the Gengar who cast the curse was sentenced to Life Imprisonment, it was little consolation for Jase's family as they had to deal with his passing. And obviously, the one who took it the hardest was Chase. Jase's team came to mourn their departed leader, and Professor Watts and Sally even attended as well. Pastor Matthew Krom the Dusknoir gave the eulogy as pokemon shed tears all around; all of Lakeshire Town mourned this tragic loss. The weather, as predicted by meteorologists, was poor and drizzling--which would serve as a prelude to the intense thunderstorms that were predicted to come in the following days. The storms would only serve to be a somber reminder of this tragic day.

"Leave me alone!" shouted Chase at the bullies, who were now no longer deterred with Jase now gone. Now no one will be able to stop their advances against him.

"You gonna cry, little baby mon?" said the Pancham Billy.

"You big bad brother ain't here anymore to save you," said Sam heartlessly. "You ain't gonna escape our whooping now!"

Ever since Jase's death, the bullies have been accosting Chase more than ever, and even taunting him and calling him a weakling for not being able to use his powers. Whenever they were nearby, Chase would silently try and rush to Professor Watts' lab, home, or the central plaza of Lakeshire Town--where the adults were concentrated, making the bullies less likely to pursue or even act. But Chase knew that they would be waiting somewhere for him to come out so they could pounce on him. One place that he found solace, strangely enough, was his brother's grave, which was on the top of a small hill within the vast Lakeshire Cemetery. He would even talk to his brother's grave, hoping that, even in death, his brother would still provide him with strength and comfort.

"I miss you Big Brother," said Chase. "The bullies have been going after me more than ever. I wish I could fight, but my powers just won't come." The gravestone was silent, and all to Chase's growing depression. "I wish I was as strong as you, Jase."

Later on, in Professor Watts' Lab, he asked to see what he could help the professor in, perhaps work with Lightning Generator now that a real thunderstorm has come.

"I wish we could play with the Lightning Generator more, Chase, but it would be exceedingly dangerous. The lightning bolt the machine would summon would be so powerful that it would cause the power bank to overload and explode. Plus, the surrounding area would be streaked by electricity, electrocuting anyone who was within twenty feet of it."

"I understand," said Chase as his ears dropped. "But at least can we do some electricity training so that way I can be strong enough to use my powers?" "I'm afraid not. I have another experiment I'm working on, and-"

"That's what you always say!!!" shouted Chase. "You never have enough time for me! All you care about are your experiments." And the little Pichu ran out the room and out of the lab.

"Chase! I'm sorry. I didn't mean-" the professor tried to apologize, but the little Pokemon was now outside the door and crying. Chase felt completely alone at this point. He felt weak and powerless. Nobody wanted to be with him. His parents were too busy with work, the professor was too busy with his inventions, the bullies relentlessly pursued him and the only Pokemon who cared enough to be around him was now gone. Chase decided, at that moment, that he would become stronger, no matter what. But how? The rumbling thunder around him gave him an idea. Why not use the lightning generator to charge him up. He could use the summoned electricity surrounding the Lightning Generator to give him a giant boost and make him strong, once and for all...

...And if it didn't, then at least he would be together with his brother...

Chase snuck around the back of the Watts Laboratory and entered via the back door. Nobody was present in the room, not even the professor. This would be the perfect opportunity to snatch the lightning generator and take it for use in his plan. The machine was still on the table where it lay, and so he picked it up--the machine was light and small enough for him to be able to carry--and headed back through the back door. Just as soon as he left, Professor Watts entered the lab and went back to his work, not even noticing that his prize invention had been stolen. Chase went about his way to the cemetery, when suddenly he heard murmurs behind him. Fearing it may be the bullies, he headed past the cemetery gates and towards the small hill where his brother's tombstone was. He set the machine next to the tombstone and was about to turn it on. The thunder got even louder, and lightning could be seen crashing down in the far distance, meaning the conditions were ideal for the machine. When he flipped on the machine, he heard the pleading voices of the bullies behind him.

But when Chase turned around to see his bullies, they did not have the usual malice on their face. Rather, they were terrified and pleaded for Chase to get down from the hill. They were around one hundred feet back, and they were too terrified to get any closer. They pleaded Chace to come back down to safety, with Billy screaming "Don't Do It!" and Sam screaming "We're sorry, just please don't end yourself!" now in tears.

Chase just flipped the switch, and turned around to taunt his long time tormentors. "You'll see. You'll all see! I'll get stronger with this machine, and even if I don't, at least I won't be around you guys anymore." But Chase was crying as he said all that. He knew an actual lightning bolt wouldn't power him up. He knew the machine would create a lightning bolt way too powerful for any electric type to handle. And his true purpose was not to get stronger, but rather to reunite with someone dear to his heart... by any means necessary.

"Chase, step away from there!" said the voice of Professor Watts, who found out that his new invention was stolen had seen through the security cameras who it was. "Come over here, you foolish lad! You won't survive that thunderbolt if it-"

"I don't want to!" admitted the little Pichu. "I want to join my brother!!!" he shouted with as much conviction as he had ever said in his entire young life.

"What!?!" said a shocked Watts, who realized what he had in his hands. Watts at that point regretted not being a supporting role model for Chase, which has lead to this point. He regretted not helping Chase with his accosting from the bully Pancham and Salandit. He regretted not helping him with controlling his powers. The professor, at that moment, felt the uttermost sorrow that he had paid more attention to his young assistant and God-child. If he could, he would change places with Chase right at this moment to receive the twenty billion volts of electricity that were building up in the clouds.

The clouds were building so much pent up energy that a massive yellow spot was visible where the enormous arc of lightning would come from to strike. And Chase, looking at this, knew that his desire to be once more with his brother would be complete.

"I miss you, Big Brother," said the little Pichu as he curled up next to the tombstone of his kin. "We'll be together again. I'll be with you again... forever and ever."

The Talisman on the Pichu's neck said otherwise. With Chase's eyes closed to see the Talisman glow, he just simply waited for the death blow to come from the sky and once more be with his brother.

"Ch... ase..." said a faint voice. Chase lifted up his ears, the voice sounding very familiar. "Chasssse," said the mysterious voice.

"Big Brother?" said Chase as he lifted himself from the ground. The lightning was now going to strike any second now. Yet the voice seemed to come from the Tombstone in front.

"Chase!" said the familiar voice. Suddenly, the silhouette of a Pikachu appeared before Chase... Jase would save his brother one last time.

"Chase! Don't do it!!!"

And suddenly, Chase felt the silhouette push him backwards. "Wah!" Chase said as he began to fall backwards.

"Chase! Stay strong! You know I'm always with you," said the silhouette as it pushed him.

And the small little Pichu fell backwards and rolled down the hill. A massive lightning bolt, one so powerful that it sent a shockwave through the air in an electrical explosion, crashed onto the Lightning Generator. It, along with the tombstone it was beside, was utterly obliterated, the bolt reverberating in the air and sending the cement from the stone blasting in all directions.

But thankfully, Chase was well more than the minimum twenty feet away to be not be killed by the lightning strike, but he felt the electricity of the massive bolt course through his little body. It pulled all his muscles and coursed through his heart. Chase was on the bottom of the hill, fading in and out of consciousness. His bullies, in completely shocked faces full of worry, came to his aid, as did Professor Watts.

"Chase!!!" shouted the Professor, who knew very well the bullet his assistant had just dodged, and what the electricity that did strike him do to him. "Are you alright, boy?" Before he slipped into unconsciousness, the last words Chase was able to utter were:

"Big...Brother... I'm sorry..." and his eyes closed shut...

Jase was in a limbo as he was stirring, still feeling as though his body was paralyzed by the electricity from the godly lightning bolt that crashed down right in front of him. He still, despite the attempt on his own life, despite what he heard his brother's ghost said, wanted to meet his brother in spirit. He wanted to see him one last time. Suddenly, a bright light began to pierce through his shut eyelids.

"Chase," said the familiar voice. "Open your eyes, Little Brother."

Chase opened them to see himself in a gray dream world. In front of him was none other than Jason, his older brother. He stood within a beam of light that surrounded him, said light coming from the heavens above.

"Jase?" said the little Pichu, though at first shocked he then felt deep remorse for what he knew his brother saw him do. "Jase..." his ears drooped upon saying that.

"Don't feel bad, Chase," smiled Jase. Despite Chase's actions, Jase showed no anger or judgement. "I know you miss me, bro. I know that you just wanted to see me, at least one more time."

"Jase..." said Chase in a soft voice. But the little Pokemon could not hold it any longer. "JASE!!!" and the little Pichu ran as hard as he could towards his older bro. But before he could get to him, he was stopped cold by the light beam the surrounded his brother. Chase was devastated to see that even in near-death he could still not reach him.

"Chase. I know you miss me. I've seen how hard you have been bullied and how the adults have neglected you. But you have to move on, bro," his brother said the sole truth. "You have to live your own life now. I can't always be there to protect you."

"But... but... I'm too weak," lamented Chase.

"But you'll get much stronger. I know you will, bro. Arceus knows this as well."

"Arceus?" Suddenly, the silhouette of The Alpha appeared above Jase, and The Creator looked down at Chase with his green eyes not with scorn, but with sympathy.

"Yes," began Jase. "Arceus knows you've been in pain. And right now, our parents are in pain. Even the bullies who have been hurting you are in pain. Just look down and see."

Arceus' green eyes glowed, and when Chase looked down, he saw himself laying on a bed unconcious, with both his parents, Professor Watts, and many more friends and relatives there with him--including the bullies Billy and Sam. Even more shocking was Kenna, who was in tears as she cried into her Meowstic mother's chest. The little Espurr was in shock to see her dear friend and crush now at death's door.

"They want you to be alright, Chase," said Jase. "They need you. You may have thought that they didn't care, but they do. Look at all their tears over you being out. If you were dead, then you would be with me, but you would be hurting them." Chase realized, at this moment, how selfish he was. All he felt was pain, and he just wanted to escape the reality which pervaded him. But in truth, there were plenty of people alive who still cared for him.

"I... I... I didn't realize they would miss me..." said Chase as the waterworks began to flood his eyes. "I just felt sad. I could only feel that."

"And that's okay, bro. But you need to learn to turn that sadness into strength. Only then will you get stronger. Don't let anything that has knocked you down keep you down. "Always remember that I will be with you always, Chase. As long as you got that Talisman with you, you will never be alone. And in my room, underneath my mattress, are my savings. Pick up from where I left off so you can buy a Thunder Stone to use so you can evolve into a Raichu when you turn into a Pikachu." And Chase then saw his brother rise up in the light. "I have to go, Chase. Arceus has granted me only a small amount of time. Please stay strong, bro. Do it in my memory, and honor it by being the best you can be."

"Jase!" said the Pichu. "JASE!!!"

And Jase was now gone, leaving behind only the silhouette of Arceus with his younger brother.

"It is time for you to awaken, Chase," said Arceus. "I understand your grief, but the gift of Life must not be thrown away because of it. When you awaken, you must heed your brother's words of wisdom. He and I will always be with you.

"Awaken!!!"

Chase bolted up on the bed, and the entire room blew up in gasps and shock.

"Chase," said his Mother. "Oh Arceus, I thought I lost you as well." And she began to burst into tears as she and Father rushed the Pichu into a hug.

"I'm so sorry, Chase," blubbered Professor Watts, his eyes bloodshot from all the tears he had shed. "I should have paid more attention to you instead of my inventions. I failed you, and even failed to save you from the lightning."

The Salazzle Mother of Sam and the Pangoro father of Billy were present, and they both apologized deeply for their sons' actions, actions that drove the little Pichu give up on life.

"Say you're sorry boys!" hissed the Salazzle.

"You heard her. Apologize!" roared the Pangoro. The two went up and lowered their head in shame.

"We're sorry," they said. Now realizing what they had done, the two had learned a harsh lesson on what could happen for accosting someone, especially towards people who were made vulnerable by loss.

Finally it was Kenna's turn. The little Espurr, also with red eyess from tears, came to Chase and hugged him on the bed.

"Oh Chase," she began, "I thought you were gone. I was so scared of losing you!"

"I'm sorry, Kenna," said Chase. "I did something really dumb, and I-"

He was silenced when the little psy cat planted a soft kiss on his cheek. "I know why you did it," she smiled. "And I hope you can be back to normal again. I don't want to lose you."

After Chase had recovered and everyone--except for his parents, Professor Watts and Kenna--went away, they thought of what to do with him. But it was clear that he would need a lot of love and compassion in order to get out of the spell he was in. Chase mentioned that he wanted to learn how to use his powers, and so that is what they decided to do: They were going to train Chase to get his mind off of his bad thoughts by training him to use electric type moves. His parents and Professor Watts began to train Chase to use his powers, with the professor using a special machine to enhance his power by filling his body with extra electricity. And in two weeks from that day, Chase at last cast a Spark move; the first time Chase had ever successfully used an electricity move. In the following weeks after he learned the move Thunder Shock and Thunder Wave, and he was ecstatic to at last be able to use his powers.

But no matter what, Chase always kept his talisman with him, knowing dearly well the assurance that his older bro said about him about being stronger. Though these past months he felt sadness, he managed to use it as a driver to build strength and become even more stronger. He even found the money underneath the bed of Jase. His brother was so close to coming up with the money to buy the Thunder Stone. And keeping to his brother's wish, Chase began saving up every bit of cash he got so he could carry on where his brother left off. Chase even got the idea of following in his brother's footsteps and becoming and adventurer and part of an Exploration Team. He was no longer afraid of the world anymore, and he would make sure to make his brother proud.

Even in death, Jase was still watching after his little bro. And the talisman that Chase always wore around his neck would be the reminder the promise his brother made to him.

At the Spring of Wishes, Chase the Raichu saw the white silhouette of a pokemon form from the glowing light; the form of a Pikachu. He was nervous as all heck, his heart beating hard as he saw the figure take form in front of him. Then the form began to show the yellow color of a Pikachu, and in the light at last had materialized Jason. Chase found it hard to hold back his tears, but the waterworks could not be stopped, with several tears already streaking across his face.

"Jase?" he said, hoping that this was indeed his brother.

"Little bro," said Jase in return. "I knew you would make it to this level. I gotta tell you, I'm proud that you become such a success. I've always been proud of you, Chase."

"Well I have you to thank," said Chase in return. "You helped push me one last time to become stronger. I just... I just..."

The words wanted to come out, but he was overcome with emotions until he at last controlled them and was able to say these important words:

"Thank you, Big Brother"...
