PAPER REBELS (pt3)

by Whitepython

Dalreto pushed himself forth and connected a clean punch against Grodacio's snout. The hit was loaded with so much energy and hatred that Dalreto almost tripped from the extreme ferocity he put on it.

The impact was so strong that Grodacio stumbled several steps before landing on his side while Dalreto grunted from the exhausting effort he made.

It took Grodacio a moment or two to get back on his feet before he charged back with a hook that landed against Dalreto's chin.

The gray lapin did his best to bear with the pain on the lower end of his head while he used his elbow to hit his former friend in the snout before connecting another punch against that white clothed chest.

However, Grodacio didn't flinch at the attack even if his nose and muzzle were painted in red. Instead, he grappled Dalreto's face with a hand. A second later, Dalreto felt a strong punch hitting his left side, the one which was somewhat sore from the fight with the tiger.

Even if Dalreto screamed in agony, Grodacio showed no mercy to repeat this motion a second and a third time. This caused a great amount of pain to the gray bunny while his face was squeezed painfully by those fingers.

All the adrenaline triggered cold tremors along Dalreto's body and summoned enough strength for him to also grab the blood soaked face and squeeze it in return before shoving his attacker away with a kick, but Grodacio was far from giving up.

The white and orange bunny closed the distance in an instant to grab Dalreto by the shoulders and shove him away with all his strength. This time the gesture was powerful enough to make Dal fall.

Before Dalreto could make sense of his surroundings after hitting the floor, his enemy stood right behind him to land a harsh kick against his lower back. This motion caused another scream of pain from the gray lapin.

Dalreto turned around to see one of those white furred feet about to stomp his face. So, the gray lapin grabbed it by the ankle before kicking the remaining leg with all of his might to force the white rabbit to fall.

Dalreto took this opportunity to force his wounded self to stand up and to run towards his door.

He would be safe If he could make it inside.

Dal crashed against the door before he attempted to unlock it, but a sense of anger that came out of nowhere filled him. A second later, a heavy grunt and a heavy footstep forced him to look behind.

If the lapin had not turned around and moved away, his head would have been slammed with a red, metallic fire extinguisher that Grodacio threw at him.

The flying extinguisher rammed the closed door hard enough to dent it before it fell on the floor. Half a second later, the white bunny ran fast enough to slam Dalreto with all his might against the entrance door before punching him once again in face with enough force to slam the back his head against the wooden structure.

Showing no disregard for Dalreto, Grodacio repeated the attack a second time. But this time, all the pain triggered the same sense of anger from a moment ago which mixed with a laser-like focus on hitting the beaten up, white lapin until Grodacio wasn't moving any longer!

Demonic whispers fueled him into a sense of destruction, with a burning desire to pin down Grodacio and obliterate him with his demonic skills, and this time he was ready to consent every single one of those impulses.

This impulse forced Dalreto to ignore the pain and to move to the left side in the moment the white lapin launched a third punch which landed against the wooden surface

Thanks to this quick reaction, Grodacio walked back as he held his hand by the wrist and cried in pain.

His once repressed demonic self pushed him to make the next move.

Dalreto landed a strong kick right against Grodacio's crotch that forced a second scream of pain.

This suffering fed his demonic self to keep on going like oil being poured into a fire.

Dalreto felt encouraged to grab Grodacio by the neck of his blood stained shirt with one hand and to punch that white and orange furred face already soaked in red over and over again with the other. The gray rabbit yelled in rage with every punch he landed, causing his own fist to also get sore and painted with some of that blood, but he didn't care. Grodacio threw punches to try to stop this, but Dalreto barely registered the hits he received as he pummeled down his former partner in crime.

Everything he held back against the tiger a couple of days ago was now being thrown against Grodacio.

It was after the seventh or eighth hit that the gray bunny exchanged his fist for a slam right on Grodacio's stomach with his knee.

As Grodacio pressed his blood bathed face and wounded body against the wall behind him as he cried in pain, Dalreto wrapped both hands around Grodacio's neck and pressed him even harder against the wall as he locked down his eyes against his former friend.

His demonic side was ready to do what he should have done with that tiger. This time there would be no mercy, only an empty shell of Grodacio whose mind would be burnt away, to never recover.

Dalreto was ready to embrace his demonic self even if he had to lose his life and his freedom!

Dalreto squeezed tighter against Grodacio's neck. With no feeling of remorse to holding him back, his once restrained demonic energies were quick to dig deep into the mind of his victim and work its dark magic on the unlucky subject.

As Grodacio twisted and tensed under the power of those demonic skill, Dalreto understood that he should have embraced his demonic self a long time ago! From now on, there was no would stop from these demonic desires, not even his wolf would...

A familiar chime rang from one of the pockets on Dal's overalls, the rage the half-demon experienced was abruptly exchanged for confusion for one specific reason.

It was the personalized chime that he set for the one that he loved!

Dalreto released the chokehold he was performing on Grodacio and walked back in horror of realizing what he was doing. The white and orange lapin leaned back against the wall as he gasped for air as more blood came from his nostrils and maw.

"You fucking murderous... my... my head," Grodacio spoke with one eye half closed and swollen while the other reflecting more of the terror he was experiencing.

Dalreto kept on walking back towards his apartment while he felt a tingle along his face. It was until the gray bunny touched his snout that he experienced a sharp tingle of pain that made him aware of all the blood that he was dripping from his face to his overalls.

Grodacio forced himself to stand upright as he walked towards the staircase while he flinched in pain. "You won't see me again... but the police... will know...all"

* * * * * * * * * *

What the hell has he been doing with his life?

A wounded Dalreto laid down on his couch, hugging his beaten and wounded self as he was still in shock about what happened today. In less than six hours, he lost his job and he got rid of Grodacio in the worst possible way. Now, the cops would come bursting through his door as soon as they capture Grodacio.

What was he supposed to do now? Was his demonic influence right all along? Is this world a place where only the strong and powerful survive by exploiting the vulnerable and the weaknesses in others?

For as long as he lived that way, his life was perfect. Now that he was committed to change for good, his life was ruined.

What wounded him the most was that it didn't matter how many times he called back to his wolf, there was no answer. If only he had ignored Grodacio as soon as he spotted him and locked himself in his apartment, he would have picked up that phone call.

Would his wolf ever forgive his constant failures?

He lost his job, his crime partner and even his wolf all because of the stubborn decision to make his life better. What did he do wrong? He prayed to God of the Light like his love asked of him. He remained firm on his decision to not to harm others and to lead an honest and clean life.

His wolf warned him that it wouldn't be an easy thing. But, that advice had him beaten up twice, jobless and with his ass about to be put in jail.

Perhaps God didn't listen to his plea because he didn't deserve to be loved, or a good life. Maybe the God of the Holy Light hated him for being born a half demon.

His head ached from both the fight and the confusion as his muzzle had a powerful sour flavor caused by the taste of his blood and the terrible things that happened to him. It was incredible that he kept on denying and suppressing his demonic self, yet it was his demonic blood that saved him from being killed by Grodacio.

The lapin winced in pain of realizing how fool and naïve he had been for believing that he could be a positive force in a world where love could lead him into a decent life.

He felt hurt that Grodacio was right all along; he was nothing but trash that was never meant to be free or happy. Love was never meant for someone like him. Why was he stupid enough to believe that deserved a better, fulfilling life?

Dalreto picked up the painkillers from the nearby table to down several more of those magic pills. Then, he threw the bottle with the pills away in anger before crying for a couple of minutes with the hopes to soothe his inner pain.

Once he was able to calm down, the lapin hugged himself as he wiped his eyes with his shoulders. Laying down like this, he remembered in which point in his life he bought into the idea that he deserved happiness:

It was an idea that his wolf kept on feeding him since they met. But the time he came to accept it was during one evening when both were practicing parkour as the sun was setting down in the sky while the lapin was chased by the wolf. This was an activity they both practiced often because needed it for their professions.

As Dalreto got ahead, he noticed that the wolf suddenly got out of sight. This worried him enough to search for his missing friend. It was after jumping behind a wall that he found the wolf squeezing one of his ankles as he was laying down and groaning.

Dalreto worried because the canine was clearly in pain.

Even if the wolf attempted to walk it off once Dalreto helped him to stand up, the lapin refused to let go of him. Because it was obvious that the canine couldn't walk back to his own place, the rabbit offered himself so the wolf could lean on him while both walked several blocks towards the apartment where Dalreto lives.

By the time they both made their way to the lapin's place, night had already set in and Dalreto had decided to help the wolf lay down on the same couch where the lapin was resting now, with the lights off so the wolf could rest.

"I... Thank you for this. I should have been more careful to not to cause you all of this trouble. You are a lifesaver," The wounded wolf said as he laid with his sprained foot resting over one of the armrest.

"I am glad you think that way. My work buddy would have come up with a list of dozen of reasons why is it my fault that his ankle got sprained." Dalreto remember saying that as he brought a piece of cloth soaked in cold water which he wrapped around the wolf's sprained ankle. The wolf howled and groaned in pain even if the lapin squeezed it carefully.

"That's ridiculous. You are a lifesaver and don't let anyone tell you otherwise," the canine hidden in the shadows spoke.

"But why? Because I set a wet cloth around your ankle?"

"It is not the cloth. It is the gesture to return for me, to pick me up and to open your place for me and making sure that I am alright."

"I... well... I did it because... I don't know. I guess owe you one after you gave me that book from your boss's office the night we met."

"That's what you are always saying. You have paid me back that favor like what? Twenty times already? You could have dumped me inside a taxi so you didn't had to go all the trouble for this. This is why I insist that you could lead a nice, peaceful and fulfilling life if you decide to stop stealing from others."

"And what am I supposed to do? Stealing is all I have known long before I was on my own."

"I am sure there is something else that you are also good at."

"I, well, I began as a theft by taking car parts away. I guess I could be a mechanic in a garage or something."

"I like that line of work myself. It is like exercising both your body and your brain at the same time," the wolf said as he huffed in discomfort while the bunny squeezed his ankle.

"Hah! I don't see myself wearing some dirty overalls and running around with wrenches."

"Why not? That's something that I would do. I mean, I am not an expert or anything, but sounds like something fun to do."

"It's not something that I am cut to do, I don't think I am useful for anything but following orders on what to steal"

"Why don't you follow your own orders? Why don't you stop pandering to others and listen to yourself for a while? I am sure that even if you have a demon personality, you also have a personality nice enough that hints you to pick up a wounded wolf and bring him home and patch up one of his ankles. You should listen to that personality, the real Dalreto. Not the Dalreto your demonic self wants or your crime buddy wants."

Dalreto remembered how those words presented a new perspective about himself. He also recalled that he was so sunk in thought that nothing pulled him back until he felt a pair of strong arms wrapped around him.

The gray bunny struggled half a second before realizing that the wolf had moved to set his arms around him while he was pressed against the wolf's clothed chest.

That was the first time someone else, specially another male, had dared to be so close to him in a affectionate way. The rest of males who approached him, had always either tried to fight or to get something out of him. And most of all, he was being held by a male that he had always found attractive since the day they met. Dalreto remembered his cheeks growing hot as he felt that masculine embrace enveloping him.

From that moment and on, the rabbit felt like he wasn't alone this world anymore. He was with someone who cared about him regardless of being both a demon and a theft. He was with someone who has demonstrated time and time again to be smarter than the 99% of the anthros that Dalreto has met in his life. He felt he was now with someone who wanted positive things for him.

"Sorry if hugging you was a bit too much. I felt like doing it," the canine hid in the shadows and apologized as he released Dalreto after the short-lived struggle.

"I... don't apologize. I needed that." Dalreto remembered helping the wolf to lay down again along the couch before hugging himself against the larger male and resting his head against the lupine's chest.

Dalreto remembered those arms holding him tight as the warmth coming from the lupine made his heart to beat faster. The close presence of the wolf triggered some sense of trust, peace and many more positive emotions that he couldn't describe.

Feelings that he didn't know that existed until a moment ago, feelings that he needed so badly.

"So do you want me to use my car knowledge for good huh?" Dalreto spoke in the arms of the wolf.

"I want you to be free to choose the kind of life you desire. I feel you want a good one because you do great things when not pushed to steal or influenced by your demon self."

"I am not entirely sure, but I promise to think about it."

"Of course, take as much time as you need," the wolf replied while Dalreto felt one of his ears to be caressed by the canine.

"But, I... there is one thing that I am sure," Dalreto held his breath even if the wave of emotions he experienced encouraged to speak something he has never, ever, said to anyone else before in his life.

"Oh yeah? What is it?"

Dalreto remembered the hesitation he felt about what he wanted to confess, but the closeness of the wolf made that resistance to melt away.

"I- I think I am in love with you"

"And I think I am in love with you too..." The canine voice spoke to him from the shadows.

Dalreto snapped back from the world of memories, his soul aching harder than his body did upon realizing that those nice moments were forfeited now. How much he wished all of this was nothing but a nightmare where he could wake up from it and find himself with his wolf under the palm trees of some fancy Andastorian island, surrounded by white sands and blue waters.

But he will have to be realistic and come to the fact that none of those things would ever be true.

* * * * * * * * * *

The next day, Dalreto was sitting down at the back of a public bus with direction to Paradise Hills.

That morning, the lapin wore a gray hoodie with a dark green shirt under it and black jeans. The lapin tried to comfort himself after both a bad night's sleep and the physical pain after the fight with Grodacio.

He spent the rest of the night perfecting the revenge plan he came up with several nights ago. Soon Grodacio would lay with his mind destroyed along with that tiger and that doberman cop.

The only way for him to get away with this dark plan was to return to those alligators so they could get rid of the cops before Grodacio were arrested and he was also brought down.

It was incredible that 24 hours ago, Dal was jumping in excitement after being the new appointed manager of the place he once worked, with all of his wildest dreams about to become true. But now, he was looking outside through a dirty bus window as he was taken to the place he dreaded the most to go.

It was when the buildings around him turned unkempt and dirty that he recognized that he was reaching his destination.

For Dal, this was no different from being in a funeral procession where he was about to bury his dreams and hopes three meters under at the graveyard of despair. All while humiliation, disillusion, pain and sorrow where driving the hearse to the final resting place of his utmost desires.

The more the gray lapin dwelled on those thoughts, the tighter his belly squeezed itself as the energy to do anything but to curl up on the floor and cry grew. Dalreto shook his head and tried to focus his thoughts on the revenge plans that he created before he ended tearing up right in the bus.

After returning in his mind to the details on what he would say to those alligators, his cell phone rang with a short chime. The bunny knew that meant that a new text message had arrived.

Dalreto pulled his phone from his hoodie pockets, expecting that Grodacio would be messaging him to demand him to go to Paradise Hills and take the money. That would save him a lot of trouble.

However, the world froze for the lapin when he realized that the message came from his wolf, and 'message in a tin can' was the body of the text.

That meant that his wolf had left for him a written letter in an alley close to where he and his other demon hunting coworkers lived at and trained.

Dalreto was ready to get off of this bus and take another one to where his wolf lived, but a sudden realization froze him on his seat.

The message was too short to make some meaning out of it. Does this mean that his wolf was upset? Would this letter be the final text where his relationship comes to and end?

Dalreto pulled on his ears while every cell in his wounded body squished itself like a soaked cloth that was being squeezed dry.

The lapin dreaded to go and fetch that paper if that was the case! His wolf was the only thing left he had in this world. Losing him would mean truly losing everything.

His life has been pretty much gone down to the drain in the last couple of days. He might as well do the last thing that would send him to spiral down into his demonic side until either a demon hunter or the mob would plunge him into eternal darkness.

* * * * * * *

It was quarter past noon as Dalreto held in his hand a yellow envelope around the size of his hand.

Looking at the thing gave him an stomachache.

He played with the tiny, triangular flap but he refused to open it. What if doing so snuffs the tiny flame of warmth still burning in his soul? The love of his wolf meant for him more than his own life.

But he had decided last night to surrender to his demonic self and to the criminal life. Why is such a little piece of paper bending his decision and his nerves down like this?

No matter how many times Dal insulted himself for being a coward, he couldn't bring himself to read the letter and finishing with his illusion of loving and being loved by a nice, caring man.

Realizing that he wouldn't have the courage to read the letter anytime soon, Dalreto slid the yellow envelope along with his cellphone and wallet inside the left pocket of his hoodie before closing the zipper to secure his belongings. He decided that the best would be to return home and attempt to summon the courage later in the evening to read it and visit those reptiles tomorrow morning.

As Dalreto approached his apartment building, he was reminded of how yesterday around his time, he found Grodacio waiting for him at his place along with the beating he got.

He dismissed that off of his mind as he turned around the block to reach the entrance hall to his apartment building, but as soon as he walked towards the access to the building, something held him by the neck of his hoodie and pulled him out to the street.

Fear helped him to respond with an elbow hit against whatever tried to get to him before turning around.

One of those alligators from Paradise Hills stood before him, pressing his hand against his snout while his slitted eyes locked on the lapin.

The fear of being dumped by his boyfriend changed into terror to save himself by locking himself in his apartment and never coming out for the rest of his life!

Dalreto ran as fast as his legs allowed inside the building towards his apartment. But as soon as he turned around to take the staircase, a massive, green figure crashed against him and wrapped his thick arms around his slim self to restrain him down.

It made little difference how hard the lapin struggled. Those arms covered in thick scales squeezed painfully around his wounded form to squish away any kind of resistance.

While he struggled, a tall, slim and heavily jeweled alligator standing at the top of the staircase he was stopped to take stood with a grin of pleasure. A moment later, those chubby and webbed feet descended along the staircase.

"If it isn't mister free agent," the Green Doll said once he descended from the staircase. The reptile placed his ringed hand around Dalreto's neck before forcing him to look up at him.

"I was hoping to meet you at my place, ready to welcome you among us. Of course, I could have respected your decision if you didn't wanted to work for me. But the big man, well, things are different. If the big gator calls for you, that is an order and you cannot disobey."

Dalreto choked as the hand that once offered him a thick pile of money was now squeezing tightly around his throat.

"If the boss calls for your presence, you present yourself immediately. If the boss asks you to stand on your hands for a full day inside his office like a decoration, you better get your ass ready for that."

The Green Doll increased his grip even tighter with such force that Dalreto felt his throat about to snap in half.

"If the boss demands you to get on all fours and lick in between his toes, that's an order you'll fucking obey unless you want your fucking free agent tongue cut down and flushed down the toilet."

Dalreto tried desperately to get the hand off of his neck to breathe in, but the alligator constricting him with his arms made any kind of reaction impossible.

"AM I CLEAR?!" the Green Doll yelled. The only thing that Dalreto could do was to nod weakly as his vision was getting filled with red dots.

A few seconds later, everything around the lapin changed and air returned to his lungs. The lapin coughed and breathed heavily against one of the walls as soon as his captors had let go of him.

Once he was given a moment to recover, he felt himself being held by the ears before being dragged towards the entrance.

"You must think yourself tougher than all of us combined to not to even send a response back," the Green Doll said as he tugged Dalreto painfully by the ears.

"Mi...middleman..." Dalreto spoke while trying to bear with the burning sensation around his throat

"What are you talking about?" the confused alligator leader asked.

"The middleman... from statue job... I... Grodacio..." Dalreto spoke with difficulty.

"The fuck do you mean with middleman?" the Green Doll asked once everyone reached the end of the staircase. Crossing the access hall was the only thing between Dalreto and the street.

"You and your friend were recommended by someone else. But since day one, we made the statue deal with your friend Grodacio. I even gave him a big starting bonus because he kept whining that he needed to hire extra people for such difficult task. We never deal with middlemans outside of our group because that's too fucking risky for my business."

The burning sensation on his neck grew as the realization of what Grodacio had been doing behind his back made the rest of his body turned cold and the top of his head felt like it was about to explode.

Has he always been a stupid pawn in Grodacio's schemes?

"Boss! The van will be here soon," one of the alligators reported with a cellphone in his hand.

"Strip him," the Green Doll commanded. The same alligator who was carrying the phone removed the hoodie that Dalreto was wearing and tossed it away before he ducked down to inspect his waist and legs for concealed items.

Dalreto was tempted with the idea of kicking this alligator in the face and recover his letter, but he was too beaten up and tired to offer a meaningful fight. He was still breathing with difficulty and afraid that a rain of bullets would put an end to both his life and his escape.

"I don't know what happened between you and your other rabbit friend. But if I were you, I'd be much more worried about whatever the boss has planned for you. Last guy who did something similar to you. He, well, it took us weeks to remove the stains from the fun room," The Green Doll spoke as the other alligator kept on inspecting him.

Dalreto's blood reached freezing point upon realizing that he was about to be killed, away from his wolf. He wouldn't live another day to hold his beloved wolf close, to kiss him or to even say goodbye.

Without saying 'I love you' one last time.

Dalreto allowed all of his bottled up emotions to come bursting as he sobbed loud enough for the Green Doll and his henchmen to give him a confused look for half a second before disregarding it.

He begged for a miracle to to happen right now to the God of the Holy Light and the Angels of Creation. In exchange for saving his life, he promised right there to the Angels to repent from the evil thoughts he accepted last night. He promised to the Angels to force himself to become better. Not even his demonic side would be able to save him from whatever the mob had in store for him.

The alligator performing the inspection rose back to his feet to nod to his boss that the lapin was clear.

Dalreto was shoved and forced to walk along the access hall of his apartment building towards the street. As he approached the exit, the first thing he spotted through his teary eyes was a parked vehicle. It was a navy blue, double cab pick-up parked at the entrance.

Even if the light from the outside and the remaining tears in his eyes made it difficult to see, the lapin saw two shadows standing at the entrance who looked familiar.

"The fuck- Is that the Green Doll?!"

It took Dal a couple of seconds to recognize those shadows in the light and the voice belonged to the doberman and the fox cops who harassed him several days ago as the group of reptiles also stopped in their tracks.

"Shit!" another of the alligator henchman yelled before guns appeared from every corner and bullets were exchanged.

The lapin took the opportunity created by the confusion to stomp his heel against one of the clawed feet of his captor before jumping down to the floor.

Dalreto knew that his prayer was answered and he had to make most of it!

As he kept his head down and breathing heavily while bullets were exchanged, he spotted from the corner of his eye someone waving at him.

The gray fox cop was calling him to come for safety behind his police car.

It was either several years in jail or being tortured to death at the hands of the mob.

As Dalreto crawled on his belly towards the cops, he skipped a heartbeat when he remembered that he left behind the hoodie with his letter that was taken from him by the alligators.

Dal couldn't abandon the letter sent by his wolf like that. It would be like forsaking the very last thing he would ever have of his lover.

As Dalreto chose what to do, several more cop cars parked behind the doberman and the fox before the bullet exchange resumed with a greater intensity.

Dalreto wasted no time to ignore his safety and to crawl towards the alligators who were trying to repel the intense wave of bullets being fired at them.

As soon as he returned to the depths the building, he spotted an alligator taking cover behind a corner which lead to the staircase that he was intercepted. However he paid him little attention to approach his discarded hoodie laying on the side.

The lapin was quick to stretch his arm to get a hold of the piece of clothing before a gunshot could be heard next to him.

Dalreto saw a large bullet hole that barely missed his hand on his attempt to pull the hoodie back.

"You are not going anywhere little stomper. I will drag your fucking dead corpse with me if you don't get your ass up here," The armed reptile said. Dalreto noticed a scaled finger caressed the trigger of the firearm being pointed at him.

"I want to take what you took from me!" The lapin complained as he attempted to get a hold on the clothing again.

"Keep your hand away from that thing and get your ass over here. Last warning!"

Instead of obeying, the lapin pulled his hoodie closer to him before pressing it against his chest. He refused to let go of his letter even if he had to die.

"No wonder why the boss hates you," The armed reptile locked his slitted eyes on the rabbit. Dalreto felt the murdering intention on the reptile's gaze as he crawled back in an attempt to escape, but the reptile followed him with his gun before a bullet was fired.

Dalreto squeezed his eyes and prepared for the worse.

When Dal became aware of his surroundings again, he found himself next to a pair of strong, muscled legs clothed in a navy blue uniform. Followed by this, a reptilian groan of pain was followed by a heavy footsteps.

When he turned towards the staircase, there was no reptile. Instead, there was only a gun left behind.

The doberman cop had saved his life by shooting the reptilian assailant and forcing the reptile to fall back to the top of the building

"Arrest the civilian and take him to the precinct," The doberman ordered as he stepped aside before leading the rest of the police upstairs. "I want him in the interrogation room immediately."

All of the cops went upstairs, leaving a husky and a red fox behind in charge of handling the lapin. Both were quick to help the bunny back on his feet before the fox pulled his handcuffs.

"Hold on!" The husky said. "Use the zip tie. We need the handcuffs for the other guys."

"What are you talking about? We should handcuff him and-"

"I- before you tie me," Dalreto interrupted. "Can I put on my hoodie?"

"What? Why's that? We don't have time for this," the fox complained.

"Let me see that first," the husky ordered as he took the hoodie off of Dalreto's hands before inspecting it.

The husky weighted the clothing in his hands before he was quick to open the zipper that kept the belongings of the bunny in place before he inspected them.

Dalreto bit his tongue and held his breath as he hoped that these cops wouldn't take away his letter. It was his most beloved possession.

"A cell phone, some keys, a wallet and a letter," the canine said before focusing his attention on the yellow envelope.

"Ha! What is that? A love letter?" The fox spoke before chuckling.

The husky picked up the yellow envelope before sniffing it and checking it against the light coming from the outside.

"The envelop doesn't seem to carry anything suspicious. You may keep your things," the husky explained. "But be aware that you will be stripped of everything you carry at the precinct."

Dalreto nodded as he secured his belongings inside hoodie before putting it on. Once that was is done, he placed his hands behind his back so the fox could set the zip tie around his wrists.

"Bad day to receive love letters pal," the fox said with a chuckle once Dal had been tied down.

The cops escorted Dal out of the building and towards one of the patrol cars. As the husky opened the door of one of the police cars, the sound of some tires screeching at a violent volume along with a roaring motor forced everyone to look to the left where a large, beaten up van appeared and was speeding up after recovering from a fierce turn as it approached the parked car patrols.

From the vehicle, several assault rifles were fired towards the two cops and the lapin. Dalreto pushed himself away from the patrols before he ran away from both the bullets and the cops.

Orders were screamed and more bullets were exchanged, but Dalreto wasn't there to learn the details as he ran as fast as his beaten, wounded and sore body allowed through the nearby alleys. He ran and ran until he couldn't do it anymore, yet, he forced himself to run some more past the exhaustion point.

* * * * * * *

The sun was setting up in the horizon, and Dalreto couldn't feel his legs anymore. He was unsure where was he or for how long has he run.

At least, he found a broken pipe in one of the alleys he went through which he used to break the plastic bind keeping his hands tied down so he wouldn't look as suspicious among other anthros.

It was when exhaustion had taken a toll on him that he hid in a alley and sat on a discarded, small box.

As hunger mixed with his tiredness, he knew that he might afford a quick bite from what little he carried in his wallet, but he had no place to spend the night.

Dalreto re-lived in his mind all the things he went through since he went with his decision to do as his wolf suggested. From the night he refused to brain melt that tiger at the corporate office, all the way to his escape from his own apartment building a couple of hours ago. Place that he probably won't be able to return.

Beaten by circumstances, Dalreto was ready to walk to the outskirts of town and to jump off of a bridge so he could finish his 'cursed from birth' existence once and for all.

Dalreto held the yellow envelope with the letter that he was almost killed and arrested for recovering.

Now that he had lost everything, he had the courage to remove the last vestige of warmth in his heart by using the letter that his wolf wrote to most likely finish his relationship with him. After all his constant failures, he could understand if the wolf decided to dump him for good.

He lifted the triangular lid and pulled out a sheet of paper nicely folded.

It was with plenty of tears in his eyes that he accepted to lose the man that he loved more than himself as he read:

"My hot mess:

I apologize for not picking up my phone as much as I should. My work has gotten extremely stressful and complicated because a delicate security breach among us has been broken.

Myself and another member of my group have a plan to sort this difficult situation we're all facing at the organization. It should be fixed out as soon as tomorrow night. Once that is done, I will dedicate plenty of time to you. but for the time being, these lines belong to you.

Even if I don't reply to your messages, I have read every single one of them when I can. Every single line that narrates your pain fills me with anger against myself for not being with you and help you out to face all those terrible things.

I know you well Dalreto. I am sure that you are going through is worse than what you dare to describe to me.

It is very hard to endure this, but never stop believing in you and how deserving you are of a happy and peaceful existence in which you are fair to both others and yourself.

I am anxious for your soft touch, your beautiful self and your pretty smile. Holding you as we sleep together would be enough for me to make it up for the incident at the breakfast meeting.

Never forget that while I am not with you physically, my love will always be with you, it will never leave you.

Like you, I am fighting to rebel myself from this profession that I never chose but I am forced to follow as much as you are fighting to rebel yourself against your demonic self and the criminal life you have led so far.

In a matter of time, we will be both together and free from our current situations. Please don't despair if even if now, we're only rebels in a paper letter.

Resist your demonic self, take care while you wait for the moment that we'll be reunited again. You have to persevere for me Dal, because you are the only one who can protect the one and only that I love the most;

My beautiful Dalreto."
