Break Out

Getting to Know Each Other

Khan: Age 8

The whole house smelled like Galactic Independence Day. Mom always goes overboard when cooking for company. An uncle of mine was coming over today; I don't know why since my family was upset about something he did. But I never understand what's going on with them; they say one and then do another.

My brother and were playing Holo games on the video screen. My uncle Torrance walks in and goes into the kitchen. Hearing them arguing about a shipment that went wrong followed by a piercing scream and Torrance called her a 'crazy bitch' and ran out of the house. I ignored it and kept playing games with my older brother Demetrious. I was looking forward to a pie my mom had made a banana lemon pie, which is my favorite dish she makes.

Hours passed and dad didn't come home, not that it was unusual, and dinner started, I was upset when I didn't see the pie, but there was plenty of food to substitute for it. I had asked my mom about it and she said she didn't make one, and she never lied to me so she must not have made it. My dad showed up shortly after dinner was done and he had blood all over him. This was unusual but I didn't say anything he liked to be left alone on these nights.

A few weeks later there was a funeral for uncle Torrance. I was upset that he died, but I didn't know him that well. I asked dad why he wasn't upset and he said something about 'getting what's coming to him'. When we got home my parents looked around the house for 'bugs' and then sat us down and told us that they were in organized crime.

Khan: Age 26

I woke with a slight start I hadn't thought about those things in forever. I had put up a few things a couple of family pictures and one of my late girl friend. I got up and stretched for a few minutes. I then got a glass of water. At this point I heard a knock at my door. Putting some pants on and walked over to the door and opened it, hanging from the ceiling in the doorway was the frame of our pilot Abby.

"Morning," I said groggily.

Tapping a claw on the ceiling she dropped to the ground and said in an eerily chipper voice "Good morning!" pulling something out of a satchel on her waist she handed it to me and said "It's my own special blend, if you don't have any problems with drinking what's basically liquid fire I can guarantee that it'll wake you up."

I grabbed it as she handed it to me and took a swig. It was relatively warm but it sure woke me though; after I woke up I noticed she was wearing a basic shirt and panties, "You cold?"

Putting her paw on my chest she said "You tell me, I never notice the temperature, and I only woke you up to tell you our food supplies are too low to make it to earth, there are 4 stations nearby where we can restock, I thought I'd let you choose since I'm running you. Decided to wait to get dressed until you chose." looking at my chest she said "Explain those at some point, I'm going to the bridge." and with that she turned on the spot and walked away along the wall.

I walked down the hall to the med bay to find Ted. Since the med bay is the safest place and I know he could barely hurt me I walked on in and gave him a sharp poke in the side. "Get up sleeping beauty," I said and then before he could respond I walked away. Pulling on a shirt I walked into the bridge. I looked at the four locales and decided we'd go to the only neutral one, "Abby, set course for Lady Luck."

Looking at me she grinned widely and said "You really just chose the best place to pick up short acting hallucinogenic's, sounds like fun." Pressing several buttons quickly she locked the controls and jumped out of the seat. "We'll be there in 4 minutes, I put in maximum heading, I love the Bailey atomic smash, and Lady Luck has the only bar that makes it, granted I don't think any others could since they don't have Bailey as a bartender."

"Yeah well it's the only place where I won't attract serious attention. I'll still have to go and cover up most of my face," I said. I pointed to the markings upon my chest, "These are all varied, the barcode is from prison a common way to brand prisoners, now the old looking runes are from the Incans of Earth 'Live long and prosper' my family credo."

Looking at me she shrugged and said "Okay, well I'm going to get dressed now, if you'll excuse me." As she walked away on the ceiling she danced along with some unheard beat, right before she walked up the tunnel she saw Ted and said "Catch, it'll wake you up." and dropped another container from her satchel into his hands.

Ted walked into the bridge and as he took a swig of the contents I said, "Your throats going to start bleeding in three, two, one, and zero." As soon as I said zero he started to scream, after he recovered he said, "Is she trying to kill me, that shit is hotter than hell."

"Oh, quit your whining you stupid pansy, it isn't that bad, it's kinda soothing in my opinion, but at least you're awake now. Go get dressed, we are going to go get supplies," I said. I stood and walked back to my room and pulled out a hat and bandana, placing the hat on top of my hat and bandanna in front of my snout.

The ship pulled into the docking bay, and connected the air lock. I waited patiently as the air lock cycled first thing we would need to do is get something to eat, and then get supplies, and last get a few weapons. "Ted, don't forget where we parked, also you try anything stupid you'll be launched out of our air lock," I said. I followed the signs to a place called Chow, Chow, and More Chow.

As I was about to walk in Abby came up beside me and said "You like quad processed food?"

"Well anything is better than that prison crap, besides I don't think Ted here could handle what you have in mind. He nearly choked on the homemade wake up juice," I said slightly laughing.

Laughing herself Abby replied "What I'm thinking of is cheaper and tastes better than this place, and they have normal food for people without the stomach for the fun stuff."

"Alright, you know this place better than I do, and I just hope doesn't get sick at some of the food they have there he does have a weak stomach. hell the only kind of alcohol he had was cheap wine. Come Ted we're off again," I said thinking to myself I really like her, she reminds me of my late girl friend.

Following her I was somewhat surprised at how easily she dodged around and over others in her way. As we got closer I saw I huge sign in gold and red that advertised "Best bar in the quad station area, from the most delicious burger to the wildest mind trip to the biggest smash you'll ever have, we have it all!"

As we walked in, Abby, who had disappeared a minute or so ago in the crowd, waved at us from on top of a table. As we walked up to her she held out her hands and gestured to a lizard standing next to her in an apron. "This is my good friend who goes by Bailey, she can make recommendations about anything you want since she made half the menu." Turning on the spot Abby gestured around the room and said "There are occasional dragons, lizards, dogs, the bigger cats, and minor amounts of most other beings, just most of them besides those can't quite handle the house specialty, Bailey's atomic smash with booze, ups, hallucinogenic, and just a bit of tranquilizer to keep homicidal rampages at bay."

"I'll have a subterranean space slug, if it comes home strangled," I said. "It can," Bailey said. "Good, with a thing of the hardest liquor you serve, and my friend the Squirrel will have a salad heavy on the regular dressing and water," I said motioning for Ted to sit on the inside of the booth. I sat down and waited for someone to start talking.

Sitting down Abby closed her eyes and said "Give me the bomeric bomb burger with a blood high and then a banana pie with lemon shavings, and finally top it with a double on the special."

Sighing Bailey replied "I'll make sure to use the extra hot on your burger hon, your orders will be out in a few minutes, as customers of Abby you get priority."

"You two are out of your spacing minds," Ted said after hearing our food orders.

"No Ted, you are because you can't handle anything. Besides how does your body handle that stuff?" I asked.

"Well we herbivores have refined tastes you primitive beast," Ted retorted. Ignoring him I looked over to Abby and said, "You know, you are a really pretty young lady, whatever god you believe in was on a great streak when he made you

Whistling she said "That's one hell of a compliment, maybe I'll join you in your cabin sometime, you definitely know how to flatter a girl."

"Aww, shucks you're going to turn me deep green, but why not your cabin since it's bigger" I said slightly embarrassed.

"Oh my god, are you blushing Khan? You actually have emotions, and here I thought you were just an ass," Ted said.

As Ted said it he fell over in his seat hitting his head on the adamant wall and Abby said "I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't be able to find the floor, I have a hammock on the ceiling."

"Well then I guess I need to keep my room clean then. Plus I'll always be decent since there is a girl who seems to be interested in little ole' me," I said. Just then some random waitress came up and said, "You know sir you have really bad breath." "You know you have an ugly face but I don't go around telling everyone you have an ugly face do I? And please put a bag over that thing you are making everyone in here sick," I finished just as soon as Bailey was heading over with the food.

Coming back with a tray of food Bailey said "I'll send the other part of your order in 15 minutes Abby."

"Thank you, Bailey here take this," I said.

Taking it Bailey said "That's probably the best tip I've gotten in a while, nice friends you've got Abby, you guys take your food, I've got someone to fire." Bailey said before she turned and walked towards the one who had just insulted Khan.

I sat there grinning and laughing to myself, muttering "That's not the entire tip, I just know waitressing doesn't pay well."

Laughing herself Abby said "I eat here free since i gave her the money to start this from a very well paying run. I give her half of what the meal cost as a tip every time."

"Yeah, well I'm a nice guy, sides she seems to be a bit scrawny," I said.

Looking at her food with a grin Abby said "Dig in, can't speak for what you ordered Ted, I prefer fruit salads, but I know what Khan and I ordered is delicious!"

Taking a bite of my food I was reminded of my mother immediately and said, "Oh, nothing beats a freshly strangled space slug in the morning."

Ted piped up and said, "Well I know it will be just fine, but I do hope when we go shopping for supplies I can choose what I want."

Shrugging Abby picked up her burger and ate close to half of it at once and simply groaned with pleasure. After she swallowed Abby said "Well maybe we can check out the station hydroponics, see what their prices are, I usually just buy a few dozen pounds of freeze dried oranges to make sure I get enough nutrients."

"Sounds good, but as long as I am on the ship I'm cooking. I learned a lot from my mother on the fine arts of baking and cooking and a woman of your stature shouldn't be slaving over a stove all day," I said.

Lowering the burger Abby looked at him with an odd expression on her face and asked "I've got a stove on that ship?"

"Yeah I saw it you have a whole modern kitchen on your ship, has about an inch of space dust though," I said, "which reminds me do you have any cleaning supplies?

"Oh, I just know where the re-hydrator and the food processor are, looks like we found a use for you!" Abby declared gleefully and picked her burger back up. Before taking a bite she looked thoughtful and said "I don't think I do actually, and we need to get sauces, most people's sense of taste is rather bland."

"Well I think yours would be too if you had prison food for as long as I had. I also need to pick up a few cookbooks from exotic foods to vegetarian meals for Ted here. Plus I'd like to see if I can't get my mom's recipe for her homemade banana lemon pie," I said thoughtfully.

"I guess I could help with lifting things and trying to help with repairs, my dad was an engineer," Ted spoke up

Nodding Abby said "Good, you can catch the tools, gravity doesn't help repairs" After she finished her burger she drank some of the blood red drink and giggled as her normally white throat literally turned red.

"What's so funny," Ted asked.

Looking at Ted she laughed even harder and said "You're blue now, I love hallucinogens."

"Well, looks like we're going to stay here till she gets out of her buzz," I said somewhat beside myself.

Looking out she cheered as another waitress came with a pie and a drink that was changing colors. Handing her the drink the waitress said "She doubled your double, be careful, isn't this the 5th one you've had this year?" she put the pie down on the table and cut it into 3 pieces. "The pie is vegetarian safe little squirrel."

Giggling Abby took the drink she had been handed and chugged it before falling off the seat laughing. Getting up immediately she grabbed a slice of pie and nibbled on it while dancing randomly. After that we both had a slice; Ted said the pie nearly gave him an orgasm. We were there for about an hour when the check finally came I paid it and added about a 200 credit tip. By this time Abby was finally over her, well, I don't really know what to call it. I asked her to take us to the place she was talking about, bought quite a few things there, then went to a gourmet food shop, bought a few cookbooks and a thing of every spice they had there as well as pots, pans, and baking tins. Last stop was the weapons shop.

Walking in with us Abby said "Wow, talk about low tech, I don't see a hydrogen power cell anywhere." Walking ahead she picked up an oddly shaped blade and said "A shock kukri, and very well balanced, I wonder if I could up the voltage"

"I don't either, but so close to a Galactic Empire planet it would be stupid to have that stuff out in the front," I said. I then walked up to the guy at the counter and asked, "I'm looking for some really nice weapons and all of this is rather low tech, so could we see the back room?"

"I don't know...," he started as I slid him 200 credits, "Yes sir, let me show you what we have in the back." I followed him to the back and I liked what I saw, "Nice collection you have here. Hey Abby you should check this out."

As she came in she looked around and immediately found one she liked. Walking up to it she picked it up and said "A solar arc with a helium core to lighten the load, this is beautiful."

Spying one I liked I walked over and put it on, it had a set of 8 fuel cells strapped to either side of my torso and locked onto a back slot that allowed for my wings, the barrel of the gun was heavy enough that I couldn't hold it upright with just one arm. Looking at what I picked Abby came over and said "Holy crap, is that a hypo filtrating kinetic extrapolation unit with extra fuel cells, you could punch a hole a foot think in adamant with that beautiful thing."

"Yeah, it's definitely me, but this thing would only be useful in assaulting a bunker, I need something a little lighter," I said.

Nodding his head the shop keeper came up and said "Well if you can hold that without any problems I would imagine you want smaller guns for more, diverse situations." Pressing a button on his belt a wall turned and he pulled off a pair of assault rifles that strapped to my arms with 4 extra fuel cells. Looking at them I said "They seem like they're a bit far back for the handles attached to the sides." Showing the buttons inside the glove he said "The first button will make them slide out and the handles will be level with your hands. The fuel cells will cycle between the 1 inside the guns and the other 4 so that you can keep flow of rapid fire energy for 12k rounds in 3 shot bursts, after that you'll need to let the cells cool or switch them out with others."

Looking at the new wall Abby hopped over the shop keep and picked up a trio of small almost hand guns. Holding them up she asked "How much for the 4 weapons I've got?"

We each got what we wanted and I insisted on paying for the weapons since I had been the one insisting on getting these to defend ourselves, not to mention I worked the price down below 5k credits it really should have been somewhere around 20k credits for all of it. I even got a repair kit, and cleaning kit, and a few upgrades. Then we took the stuff back and I said I had to go do something real quick. Shrugging Abby opened the airlock and half choked Ted grabbing him with her tail when he tried to follow.

I went to a jewelry shop; I noticed she had a couple of studs in her tail, and I figured she had a couple of other areas pierced. I was looking for something that complimented her scales, and shiny. Looking around I noticed a set of 6 deep emerald studs. Picking them up I noticed a woman in the store uniform come up and say "Those would look beautiful on you with, they would stand out with your scales being darker than them," looking me over she said "Can I assume they're in a more discreet place since I don't see them."

"They aren't for me ma'am, they're for a friend," I said slightly embarrassed.

"Oh, well do you have a holo of her or him?" Nodding I pulled it up and she said "Well those would certainly catch the eye on her, does she have studs on her paws too?"

"Yes, you think these would be good," I asked her. With her nod answering my question I paid her for them and left.

I walked to the ship, kind of fretful, first time for everything. I walked back to my room on the ship and closed the door to my room. I quickly found a place to hide these before she found them. Just as soon as I did this there was a knock at the door. "Come on in," I said seeing Abby's form hanging from the ceiling. Not that I was surprised about that what I was surprised about was she closed the door after she entered all of the way.

Dropping from the ceiling she traced a claw over my arms and said "You know, I've never slept with a dragon, actually I've only slept with a few guys and all of them cats, I was the only non cat on the Tarachi."

"Yeah well I've never actually, you know, had sex before. I hate to admit it, but I've never told a lie. So, could we maybe wait for another night to umm... consummate a physical relationship, and just cuddle instead" I asked.

Shrugging she said "Okay, I've never had a relationship where I didn't have sex; it'll be a bit different. Maybe you'll teach me something different."

"Well, being in a relationship in my opinion that is based around sex isn't a relationship at all," I said as I scooped her up in my arms and walked her over to the bed. I laid her down on the bed and cuddled up next to her. We talked away most of the night and fell asleep in each other's arms.

Abby

Feeling something wrong with the vibrations I untangled myself from Khan and stumbled out of the bed when the ship suddenly listed hard to the starboard. Feeling the gravity drop I and hearing Khan wake up behind me I shouted "Get to the med-bay, it has the best shielding." And I took off down the passages to the main controls. Seeing what was wrong I braced my legs and pushed off hard, using the lack of gravity and maneuvering down the passages at high speeds I passed Khan before reaching the padlock to the engine room.

Quickly putting in the code I sealed it behind me and felt the light radiation flowing through the air. As I reached the control panel I saw it blinking with a message waiting. Pressing the button I saw a familiar face, "Hello again dear Abby, didn't expect to see me again so soon did you. I used your favorite station to plant a virus in your engine flow control; I don't expect you to survive this since if you're seeing this you're locked in the engine room, Tata!"

Growling I shut down the primary control and cut the cords. Pulling the secondary out and quickly hotwiring it in, I shut off the flow. Looking over the levels I knew I was probably doomed, as soon as we crashed the radiation would spike to over 2000% of what was needed to kill any living thing. Hearing the sounds of planetary entry I shut down the engine and activated the internal shielding. Even if I wouldn't survive this I could make sure that my clients would.
