#1 of Preparing the Female Bandicoot

Hello all, this is your home girl Tawna.

Seeing as though we are just months away from Crash 4: Its About Time, where present leaks now show that I have gotten a controversial new redesign that seems to "Go against my Character", I thought it would be a better time than any to post what it was like for me to live through what is considered to be before, during, and after the events of Crash Bandicoot 1. This chapter, in particular, focusing on my time before the Evolvo ray, and the capture that has lead up to it.

I guess an appropriate place to start things off might have to be at the very beginning. My time leading up to the Evolvo Ray, as it were. To be perfectly honest with you guys, I cannot really remember ever single detail of my time leading up to that event, for I was not even aware that I was even a living being until after it had zapped me. Still, a story like mine, at least to me, does feel like it should have some detail as to what had happened before hand, to hopefully contrast things between my life then and my life now.

So this is what I am going to do: using some facts that I have learned about bandicoots from such websites as Bush Heritage.org and National Geographic.com, some brief images that I can faintly recall before the mutation, as well as testimonies that I have gathered from people who were actually there, I am going to pull off the herculean task of trying to recreate the night of my capture to the best of my ability.

So, without further ado, let's get started.

[Ah-hem]

It was a calm and peaceful night on N-Sanity island, and everything seemed right with the world. The giant moon reflected upon the majestic blue waves that gently lapped against the sandy shores of the beach, birds of varying colors, who had spent an entire day catching food, were coming home for some much needed rest, and the local natives can be seen in the jungle, dancing around a fire for what was probably a good hunt that day. Deep within said jungle, small critters such as mice and lizards could be seen retreating to their various burrows and tree top hide-aways, to hopefully hide themselves from predators that had the tools necessary to both sense and eat them before the thought of running away even crossed their tiny, underdeveloped minds.

In one section of the jungle, the rustling of giant grass can be heard as I, a lone, female, bright orange bandicoot, steps out into the clearing, my comically large nose sniffing the ground for a quick meal consisting of either beetles, grubs, or one of those said small rodents mentioned earlier. I then proceeded to sniff around for what was probably a couple of minutes, (again, making up details here), until I managed to find something of interest, a small cluster of ant larvae just inches underground. I then proceeded to use my tiny bandicoot paws to dig my way into the ant's nursery until the mound of wriggling, tube-like, bodies came into my view.

Being the average bandicoot I was, I then slurped them all up, one by one, while not even being aware of the approaching footsteps.

The Heavy footsteps.

The Heavy, Loud, footsteps.

The Heavy, Loud, Human-Like, Footsteps.

The Heavy, Loud, Human-Like Footsteps, coupled with the sound of metal hitting against metal, that kept on coming closer...and closer...and closer.

It was not until I had managed to take the last bite did my large, rabbit-like, ears manage to pick up all of that noise, prompting me to immediately dash off into a collection of small plants on the jungle floor. I don't know if a tree must have got in my way, or maybe it was the sight of another predator that had made me stop in my tracks, but for some reason, one of the few memories I actually have of that night was of me turning back towards the noise, and seeing what I thought were two, large, thin, trees, with some of the weirdest shaped bases I have ever seen, long and wide in the front, and small and skinny in the back.

At first, I did not think that much of them, probably thinking that these trees were just ones that I have not seen before. I was then just about to exit the leaves when I then noticed one of the trees slowly lifting off the ground and moving slightly closer to where I was hiding. It was then that I had actually looked up, and noticed that these trees were not actually trees, but instead, legs that were connected to one, skinny, shadowy mass; the only thing being visible on the mass were the large glass circles that it seemed to have instead of eyes, both of them staring directly at me.

As I sat there in abject terror, I then noticed as one of the dark being's hands started to slowly lower above me, its fingers clawed in such a way as to pick me up. I then slowly backed away from the dark mass, trying to find a new direction I can run away to, when I then bumped into something else.

Turning myself toward the new obstacle, I found another set of dark feet-trees, except this time, these feet seemed to be less dark at the bottom, and darker up top. I then turned my head upward toward this new figure and saw that this one looked even wider than the previous one, with much larger fingers to boot. It then lowered its head to my line of sight, both revealing a large set of sharp, carnivorous, teeth, and a set of eyeballs, that this time, seemed to glow in the dark.

I then shrieked louder than I ever shrieked before as I ran as far away into the opposite direction as I could, not even really paying attention to the grass and trees as I tried to find anyplace away from those two.

Just then, I heard a thud as the new figure landed right in front of me, its open maw grinning in maniacal glee. I was about to run away toward another direction when I felt two clawed fingers pick me up by my slender, rodent, tale, bringing me closer to his face so I can get a better view of the creature's glowing, maniacal eyes.

"Assistant man! Assistant man! I found one! I found one!", this new figure said with childlike enthusiasm. Just then, the other figure joined in, its eyes staring at me in a cold and calculated manner.

"See, Tiny did good"!

"Good work Tiny.", the other figure said in an emotionless, mechanical voice, "Bring it back to the castle, the doctor will be greatly pleased".

The next thing I knew, I was dropped into one the cages Tiny was carrying in his other hand as they journeyed back to their home base, the cages, themselves, swaying in the breeze as they trudged through the rugged terrain. Closing my eyes and thinking back to that event, I can slightly recall the worried scents of all of my cell mates as we were being transported, there was one from a potoroo (that may have been Pinstripe), a koala (That may or may not have been Koala Kong), and that of another bandicoot, (more on him later).

I did not know how much time had passed before we finally managed to reach the front doors to the castle, but I did know that when we did arrive, there was a low-pitched grinding sound as the castle doors slowly opened. Through those doors, another set of beings that looked identical to that of the first lab assistant gave blank, emotionless stares at our captors.

"Did you get what the doctor requested?" said one of the new assistants.

"Yes! Tiny got bandicoots!", Tiny said as he excitedly shoved our cages into their faces, "Tiny did good"!

Just then, faint, infra-red lasers emitted from their eyes, (or some other kind of laser, the bottom line was that I felt warm when they looked at me), and then they looked at each other, and then toward our captors.

"Analysis shows two bandicoots: one female, one male.", one assistant said.

"Mission accomplished. You may now enter.", said the other.

Tiny then jumped in place and danced around the room, not even paying any mind to the animals that were still in their cages. Just then, a ding sound could be heard as the elevator had finally arrived. Tiny and the lab assistant then entered the elevator, us probably still recovering from all of that shaking as we just laid there, dazed in our cages. Eventually, we did make it to the lab. As the doors opened, we were then greeted by another being, this one being significantly shorter than the others with a football shaped head with two Frankenstein's monsters' bolts sticking out at each side.

"Assistant number 7920 has indicated that you have gu-gu-gu-gotten what the doctor had sent you to get. Is that true"?

Tiny then shoved his collection of cages into the man's face, giving me a better look at this man's nervous eyes and quivering lip.

"Yup, I got da Bandicoots! Tiny did..."

"We get it.", said the lab assistant beside Tiny, "Tiny did good."

"Wonderful", a new voice said from across the room, this one sounding noticeably deeper, yet more flamboyant, compared to the other ones.

A far-off chair turned, revealing another man, this one slightly shorter than the Frankenstein monster man, with yellow skin and a large letter "N" on his head.

"Just what we needed to conduct our little experiment.", he said with glee, grabbing the cages out of Tiny's hand, "We shall start the proceedings at once. I say we do the female first."

"N-n-n-now Cortex...", the football headed man said, "I do not think this is a good idea, remember these are t-t-t-tiny animals we are dealing with here".

"Oh N-brio, N-brio, N-brio.", Cortex responded, "Remember what Professor Jacobson had said about Schrodinger's cat back at the University"?

"Be-be-be-before or after we bu-bu-burned it down"?

"Before. Remember, a scientific breakthrough isn't proven true until it has been conducted".

"Y-yes bu-but these are smaller animals we are dealing with here, what if their little bo-bo-bodies cannot take all of that mutation"?

A smile then formed across Cortex's face as he opened my cage and then proceeded to pick me up by the tail.

"I guess we will have to wait and see. Tiny! Bring me the tranquilizer"!

Tiny then proceeded to look confused as he gave N-brio a shrug.

"Gu-gu-give him the sleeping needle Tiny".

Tiny then excitedly walked over to Cortex's table and brought back a syringe containing some kind of liquid. Throughout this entire process, I tried, in vain, to get away my little bandicoot paws desperately trying to catch ground that wasn't there as the needle approached my back side.

Then suddenly:

Poke.

The needle made its way in, my arms immediately stopping their hopeless scurry away toward nothing, my eye lids feeling like two anvils being pushed off of sky scrapers as they closed, my last vision being that of the doctor as he clasped his hands in gleeful anticipation.

"Welcome my dear Tawna.", the doctor said as I went under, "Welcome, to the Cortex army".
