A little bit of lore about the Vulpeculan Principalities.

All lore in this page is from a Regulian point of view in the from of an educational course directed towards human subjects and may conflict with reality.

Above: The Vulpeculan Republican Resistance flag as seen by most species in the Empire (Left) and as seen by humans or individuals with chromatic implants (Right). The colors represent peace between commoners (Yellow) and nobles (Emerald) and the colors were also chosen to emphasize solidarity with human resistance groups.

WARNING: Report all sympathizers to the Vulpeculan Republican Resistant to the nearest Guard. Suspicious individuals wearing either combination of colors seen above should be treated as possible terrorists!

Vulpeculans

Vulpeculans closely resemble the species seen on Earth known as the red fox. Although the red or orange fur coloring is the most common among the species, other colors are also present. Despite the sweltering hot heat of their planet, almost all Vulpeculans have thick, bushy winter coats year-round and those that don't are considered untouchables. This is a holdover from when the planet was much more temperate in the past, but since the orbit is unstable and slowly drawing closer to its star, this has resulted in its current, almost universal desert climate.

Vulpeculan culture is fairly monolithic, however thanks to the chaotic individuality that makes up it, the planet has never been anywhere close to unified until the Regulian Empire intervened. The planet was and still is, dotted with hundreds of small Principalities run by some of the most depraved and decadent individuals in the galaxy. Princes and Princesses of the planet seem to revel in inflicting punishment onto their beleaguered servants and slaves; it is for this reason that the Regulian Empire benevolently offers them a chance to be purchased and taken off-planet, where they will be treated better.

Outside of the Principalities are countless tribes that wander the wastelands of the planet. These are looked down upon by even the slaves of the Princes and they are often subject to raids from the Princes so that they can collect fresh slaves.

Vulpeculans are polygamous and don't traditionally have a marriage tradition, save for the nobility and their political marriages. Most Vulpeculans, when arranging for a mate, make a contract to mate with a partner for a specific period and then they split off when the kits reach a pre-determined age.

Homosexuality is a common practice but is seen as taboo among the populace; punitive laws have varied among each Principality and all such laws are void since the Regulian Empire took control. It is seen as a far bigger taboo among the tribes, where engaging in homosexuality is seen as weak, due to the reputation of Regulians purchasing same-sex slaves for intimate purposes.

Liberation of the Principalities

Beta Vulpeculae (Actually the star humans refer to as Vega; the exact reason for the mistaken name is unknown) was discovered first by the Regulians and then shortly after, by the Lupiad-Sirians, who were following in their wake. Despite having the first claim on it, the Lupiad-Sirians claimed ownership of the planet and fierce negotiations began over the annexation rights.

The Lupiad-Sirians tried to appeal to the fact that they had superficial physical similarities, hoping to reproduce the miracle of when the Lupiads and Sirians met. However, it was found that the Vulpeculan's chromosomes are not nearly as similar and interbreeding between the species was impossible.

The Regulian Empire, on the other hand, offered protection. Beta Vulpeculae was located in a dust belt around Vega and it was prone to getting hit with debris and asteroids; a series of perimeter defenses around the planet would help ensure disaster would be averted in the future.

Eventually, war broke out over the issue, staring the Second Lupiad-Sirian War. The Regulian Empire succeeded in annexing the planet and immediately started a series of projects to protect the delicate planet from space debris and benevolent missions to give Vulpeculan slaves a better life elsewhere in the Empire.

Due to the vast amount of pseudo-sovreign Principalities on the planet, only eight Favored Princes have active diplomatic contact with the Emperor. The Empire can chose to change these at any time he pleases, especially if the Prince in question decides to disobey.

Since then, Vulpeculans have become the most common slave in the Empire, desired for their unmatched beauty.

Vulpeculan Republican Resistance

"Vigilance under oppression,"

-The VRR Motto.

In recent years, trouble has been brewing on Beta Vulpeculae and in other parts of the Empire. Some renegade Vulpeculans, inspired by troublesome aspects of human history, have called for a unification of all Vulpeculans under a revolutionary, democratic government. They believe in the abolishment of slavery, the end of the nobility, and total independence from the Regulian Empire.

They are lead by three rabblerousers known as "The Preachers," all of whom are enemies of the Empire.

Riya - A tribal warrior who successfully fought back against numerous Princes, establishing a rogue state that the Principalities could not ignore. Many flocked to her banner for fear of being plundered, raped, and murdered by her horde. The VRR denies all atrocities committed by Riya.

Common Felo - A former Prince who threw away his title and put his lot in with the VRR. Claims to have had a spiritual experience upon being exposed to what he believed to be the harsh conditions of Regulian slave training facilities and the cruelty he observed in the streets of Vulpeculae.

Brother Peter- A former slave whose Regulian master generously set free and passed along all his wealth to. Joined a radical human church and changed his name before sneaking aboard a ship back to Beta Vulpeculae where he can spread his poison. A charismatic speaker who is able to inflame the hearts of both the poor and rich.

Assassinations, kidnapping, and terrorism have been committed by them on Beta Vulpeculae and elsewhere in the Empire. It is believed that they're accepting funds and supplies from the Lacertans, but exact details have yet to be determined.
