Chapter Two
A feeling_
First off I like to thank Amberwolf for editing and helping me with this chapter. Now it sounds like a good story. Conflicting with some later chapters but I'll figure them out. Enjoy.
Ry fell backwards, hitting his head on the wall making a loud Thud. He bolted upright his paw raised in defense, anticipating an attack.Quickly realizing that he was the only one awake he lowered it. He sighed and closed his eyes trying to get back to sleep. He felt aura flow through the room and everyone in it. He sensed the aura of his friends and where they slept.
Spark and Vula were closest to the doorway leading to the lab, both lovingly curled up close to each other like true mates. Diane was asleep in the recliner, a blanket draped over her. Alex was curled up into a ball, sleeping in her lap. Kyler was.... gone. Ry's eyes popped open and he anxiously looked over to where the umbreon would usually slept, in a small bed near the center of the group.
The bed was empty and Kyler was nowhere in sight. Ry raised his paw, trying to sense the umbreon's aura. First he scanned the living room...nothing. Then he widened it to the dining room and bathroom, still nothing. Then he widened it to a one mile radius of the lab. He sensed Kyler's aura about half a mile away, near a small pond on the ranch. They often relaxed there during the time that Diane would be studying with Professor Rowan, and Nurse Joy.
What the fuck is he doin out there in the middle of the night? He thought.
Ry silently made his way outside and headed toward the pond. Nearing the pond he could see that the umbreon was basking in the glimmering light of a full moon, the yellow rings on his body glowing brightly. Ry quietly approached him trying not to make a sound so that he wouldn't startle his friend.
"Hey Ry."
The lucario sighed as he was discovered. He walked over and sat next the umbreon, leaning his back against one of the trees that grew there. He watched him for at least an hour, wondering if Kyler was going to say or do something . After a while Ry decided to speak.
"What are you doing out here? I thought you took some medicine." Ry questioned.
Kyler was silent for some time before he spoke. "I woke up around midnight. I had another dream again."
"What was it this time?"
"It never changed."
"You mean to tell me that you have been havin the same dream again and again?"
"Ya pretty much."
Ry placed his paws behind his head.
"Well?"
Kyler looked up at the moon.
"Well what?"
Ry took a deep breath. "You know what. The dream, tell me about the dream." Kyler shook his head. "Na... maybe some other time." Ry leaned forward, his eyes glittering with mischef. "Come on tell me. You got a, you told Spark, and Vula an-"
"I didn't tell them anything!" Kyler barked. "If I don't want to tell you then I don't. Got It?"
Ry was still for a second, scared what he would do next. Kyler glared at the lucario for a second, fire filled his eyes. Slowly he lowered his head and sighed. Ry leaned back against the tree. After a while Kyler turned back to the lucario. "Listen I'am sorry I snapped at you. But it's something personel and I'll talk about it when I want to but only then. Okay?" Ry nooded, he could tell that Kyler was serious.
They sat watching the pond for sometime, both not speaking. After a while Ry sighed and stood up. "Well as much as I would LOVE to watch the moon I have to catch up on my beauty sleep." Kyler glanced in his direction. "Oh trying to look good for a special guy?" The lucario laughed and walked off towards the house. "Hey at least I try to get a mate." Kyler gave a slight laugh and turned back to watch the pond.
It was true. Every mature member of the team either had a mate or was trying to get one, all except him. He was fine with being alone, it gave him more time to polish his moves and to raise Alex, the eevee he had saved and adopted. But he knew that he couldn't be both a mother and father figure to Alex. Spark and Vula helped from time to time but they were only babysisters. He sighed and looked up at the moon. He figured it was around 2am. He could feel his eyelids getting heavy.
He got up and headed for the house. Halfway to the house he stopped, sniffed the air, and stiffened, something didn't smell right. He looked back to the shadowed treeline near the pond. After watching the treeline for a few moments he walked back towards the house. He opened the door with the only psychic move he knew. He walked in and quickly locked the door behind him. Someone was out there and the scent made him uneasy. He had smelled that scent many times before and it always meant one thing.
Back in the treeline near the pond a figure watched the spot where the umbreon had entered the large human building. Cursing that he left right after the lucario, which ruined her chance. The itch between her hind legs almost made her dive out there to stop him but she managed to restrain herself from doing so. Sighing the figure walked back through the forest begging Dialga to give her a chance to be alone with him. She laid down in some bushes that gave her the perfect camouflage and went to sleep.
The next day Diane had the team groomed. They all thanked Professor Rowan for his hospitality and headed for the pokemon center to say goodbye to Nurse Joy. Diane smiled with amusement as she watched Alex pester his dad about where they were going next.
"I've told you we're going to say goodbye to nurse Joy, remember?"
Kyler said to the eevee for the twentieth time. Alex jumped of his back. He wasn't all that heavy but when he did Kyler staggered. "But where are we going?" He said into his dad's ear. Kyler sighed, no matter how many times he told him he kept asking the same question over and over again. He stopped if front of a building with double doors and sat down, causing Alex to fall backwards.
"Ow what was that for?"
"This is where we were going."
Alex looked up at see the building. It was tall with a red roof, and a large P sign if from of it. Diane walked past them and was about to open the doors when they swung open and hit her, she fell backward onto the pavement. "Owwww" She groaned as she rubbed the her backside.
"OH I sorry miss, I didn't see you."
Diane looked up to see a hand extended out to her. Her eyes traveled up the hand to the arm and to the chest and finaly rested on the face. He was the most handsome guy she had ever seen. He had on a black shirt with white long sleeves underneath it. His hair was short and groomed. He had to about her age if not older. She blushed as she reached up and grabbed his hand. He pulled her up and smiled. "I'm sorry for that miss, I should of been more aware of where I was going."
"No, No, It was my fault I wasn't paying attention." She said blushing. Mentally scolding herself for answering to quickly. He looked at her for a moment, suddenly he started laughing. She blushed even redder than before. "Ha ha ha. How about we admit it was both of our faults okay?" Diane nodded and placed her hand on her chest. "My name is Diane and this it Kyler and Alex, my ace and rookie." She motioned to them with her hand.
He knelt down and held out his hand towards Alex. Alex sniffed his hand for a few seconds and pushed against it with his head. He started to pet Alex, his hand running from the top of his head to the eevee's back. "The name's Branden by the way." He said as he continued to pet the purring eevee. He stopped after a few moments, to the dimay to Alex, and turned to Kyler holding out his hand. Kyler cocked an eyebrow. Branden smiled as if he understood and stood up facing Diane.
"You umbreon and eevee seem to be well trained. You must be a great trainer."
Diane blushed at the comment. "Thank you, I put a lot of effort into them and the rest of the team." He nodded and chuckled. "I know how hard it is to raise a eeveelution." He motioned with a hand to his right, as if on cue a glaceon walked up from behind him. Diane's jaw dropped, never in her life had she seen a rare delta type pokemon. The glaceon's fur shone with a very light blue color.
"Ya ya he's rare."
Branden knelt down and ruffled the fur on the glaceons head. "Whats his name?" Diane asked, knelling down to admire the pokemons rare coloring. "His name is Rick, careful he's kinda a ladies man." Clearly the glaceon was use to people staring at him. She held out her hand to the ice type. Kyler stood up as the glaceon leaned forward and licked it. "He clearly is." She said smiling as his tongue ran across the palm of her hand.
She glanced back to her umbreon.
"Its okay big guy."
He let out a slight growl and turned his head away. "Kinda protective isn't he?" Branden said as he called the glaceon back. Diane glanced at the umbreon and turned back to Branden. "Ya he is. But he's gonna get over it right?" Kyler took the hint and yipped in agreement. Branden looked at the umbreon then back to Diane.
"Hey listen do you want to come in with me? I was going to thank Nurse Joy for treating Kyler." Diane asked. Branden nodded and told her he would like to.
All five of them walked into the center. Kyler glanced back to an alley on the other side of the street, he swore he felt someone watching them. He figured it was just a rattata and ran to catch up with the group.
Diane watched the fire start to wane. She couldn't believe her luck, after they had thanked nurse Joy they had found out that both of them were heading to Oreburgh for their first gym challenge. She had invited Branden and his team to come with them. He told her he would like to and for the first day they made good progress towards Jubilife and were camping out on route 202.
Kyler and the team rested around the dual fires, laughing and swapping stories with Brandens pokemon. Branden's team included a buizel named Ardi, a gible named Jake, a flareon called Tiri, and a Medichan called Lukro. Ry and Luk (as he was called) became friends right off the bat. Ardi, Jake, Spark, Vula, and Alex laughed as Ardi finished a joke about a psyduck and a pikachu. Kyler meanwhile was walking the perimiter of the camp, looking for blind spots and other stuff. Rick and his mate Tiri sat on the other side of the fires, watching Alex and occasionally glancing over at Kyler.
Kyler finished walking the perimiter of the camp and sat down near the group to join in on the fun. "Hey Ky tell them about the fight against that machoke." Sparks said as he finished laughing. Kyler shook his head. "What?" I've told that one hundreds of times. It gets real boring after a while." Vula nudged her mate. "He's right...OH how about you tell them about when you and Diane graduated from trainers school?" His ears perked up and the air in his lungs froze. He looked at the group, they were leaning forward eager to hear about his old life.
He placed his head on his forepaws muttering. "No." Everyone groaned at this. Vula and Spark winked at each other and got up. Vula took the left as Spark took the right, forming a pincer move. Kyler was about to suggest another story when a long rope like object wrapped around his neck.
"WHA-GAH"
Vula jumped on top of him, soon the entire group joined in and a large pile of pokemon erasing all existence of the dark type. Kyler struggled to get out from underneath the pile. He tried to dig his way out but the object squeezed his neck cutting of the air he badly needed.
"All right everyone off. We're not trying to kill him."
The pile shrunk as the group got up and headed back to the spots they were sitting before. Kyler took several deep breaths and craned his neck to see that it was Sparks tail that was around his neck. He eyed the luxray.
"You tra-"
He was cut off by Sparks tail tightening around his neck.
"Your going to tell us the story or my love will set your recovery back months. And we wouldn't mind raising Alex if something...happened to you."
Kyler huffed as Vula moved out of paws reach and sit down next to Alex who smiled at the threat. "You're sure you not a houndoom or a mightyena?" Kyler said as Spark slackened the grip. He knew that they were joking but Vula wasn't the type to give up so easily. "Do I have to ask you again?" Vula said adding a threating tone to it. Kyler nodded, with a nod from his mate Spark released the grip.
He rubbed his sore neck and eyed the group. Damn it he thought. He figured to get on with it and tell them the whole storie, Spark had the ability to tell if someone was lying and had no trouble getting the whole truth.
After he finished he watched the group for a while, each one in deep thought. Rick and Tiri joined them and were muttering to each other. After a while Ardi the buizel piped up. "This Evy...did you love her?" Kyler looked at him for a second before lowering his head. "Ya... I did."
"Do you still?"
He glanced over to Spark who had asked the question. He thought about it for a second. Did he still love her? On several occasions he had a chance to take a mate but he rejected them everytime, saying that he had eyes on a female back in Sinnoh. He knew that he loved her back then but what about now?
"I... don't know"
"What to you mean that you don't know! Either you do or you don't!"
Everyone turned to Rick. He got up and walked around the umbreon. "You either lover her or you don't simple question and answer." Kyler watched the glaceon walk circle's around him. Just like Mich he thought. "I told you it was three years ago and much has changed." Rick walked over and put his face so that it was inches from Kylers.
"Not the right answer."
"I'am telling you tha-"
"Okay gang it's time for dinner." Diane said as she placed bowls filled with pokemon food in front of them. Kyler glanced at the glaceon before turning to the bitter food.
Diane and Branden sat watching the fire. The sun had set and almost the entire group had gone to sleep. They only ones awake were Branden, herself, and Kyler. He was always up with the moon taking watch and guarding the camp. He took pride in it and Diane swore he was the best nightguard that ever existed.
"So thats what happened?" Branden said as he poked the fire with a large stick. "Ya... thats how it happened." Diane said as she sighed and streched out her arms. "I can't believe that happened to you. So you been living with him alone, till you left?" Branden asked as he added more logs to the dying fire. "Ya... till we caught Spark near Goldenrod. Crazy little shinx followed a pidgey there all the way from Kanto." She yawned and laid back onto her sleeping bag. "You..." Branden stopped, lost for words.
"Its nothing, I going to sleep. Night."
"Night"
Diane pulled herself into the sleeping bag and fluffed up her small pillow before falling asleep. Branden watched her for a while. There was something about her that he liked. He heard something growl and he turned to see Kyler standing a few inches from him, his blue eyes blending in with the darkness. "You sure are protective of her." He said as he turned back to the fire. He saw the umbreon's outline as he moved closer to the flickering light.
"I won't try anything you have my word."
Kyler snorted and curled up next to the sleeping form of his trainer. Branden watched the umbreon before turning back to the fire. "Looks like I'll have to earn your trust. Guess it's my turn for the nightshift."
Whoo. Chapter 2 is done. At first I couldn't decide on either doing the night scene between Kyler and Ry or skip to the day scene. But after some thinking I'am glad I did both. Hope you liked it.
