~Author's Note~

This Story Series may eventually have just about anything and everything you can think of wrote into it. You have been warned...

On a side note, I decided to make a dated list of what I edit of my stories, as well as when I edit them. That way everyone will know if I edited the story itself, the title of it, or just the author's note thing I put either at the beginning, or end of the stories themselves. So, if this story shows up in your watchlist even if you have already removed it after reading it, then I may have edited it in some way. Directly below this paragraph is where the date list will be. I will have the dates starting with when I originally posted this story, along with each date where I edited something within the story. Beside the date will tell you what I did that particular day.

6/30/2010 - Uploaded the Story

8/3/2014 - Added to the Author's Note, and added this dated list

This story is based on a joke I was told. The characters are not mine. You can thank ( avatar?user=87501&character=0&clevel=2 UlricWolf) for allowing me to use his fursona and helping me get permission from ( avatar?user=69060&character=0&clevel=2 wolfs_love) and another so I can use their fursonas. While writing this I realized that the story sounds as if a child wrote it. Not to mention that it might seem a bit boring in places. Anyway, I'll put some more info after the story. Until ya get that far, enjoy ....

**The Hitchhikers

Chapter 1 - The Shocking Reply**

Andy had been working for Dingo's Inc. for almost 3 years but didn't like the job that much. Dingo's Inc. is a trucking company that tells their employee's what trailer to pick up and where to drop it off. As for Andy, he is a Dalmatian with some odd colorations. His left ear is black, his right ear is slightly darker than hot pink, his left eye is grass green, his right eye is slightly brighter than navy blue, he has a heart-shaped black spot on his chest where his heart is, and you obviously should know the rest since he's a Dalmatian.

When he checked into work today he was shocked to see what was in the driver's seat of the truck he drove. It was a letter. Normally he would think nothing of it since that's how he knew what his orders were for the day. However, this was completely different than usual. The letter would normally be from his superior but instead was from his superior's boss. His heartbeat quickened as he jumped into his truck and closed the door so he could read the letter. He remembered his boss talking about cutting some of the drivers so the company would stay intact. If that didn't work then they would lower the wages and increase the amount of drivers. This didn't ease Andy's thoughts of anything good that could come from this letter as he opened the envelope and began to read the letter that had been wrote to him.

Dear Andy,

As you may already know, we have been forced to let people go due to the oil spill off the Gulf Coast.

Our largest facility is near that area. Since they closed down the fishing boats and the oil is in the ocean instead of being delivered by the boat load, our profits have nearly dropped by half.

Because of this we have been forced to let some of our drivers go. Only our drivers that are quick and have years of experience can stay. I'm sorry but today will be your last load.

Your orders for today are to pick up a trailer from the North Texas Hospital in Denton, Texas and drop it off at the Flying Jay at NE 122nd St. off of I35 near River Oaks, Oklahoma.

That hospital decided to donate some supplies to the new Edmond Medical Center now that it expanded. The trailer is simple to find since it's the only one with our logo on it.

Anyway, at the Flying Jay you will give your keys to one of our other drivers and he will give you your last pay check.

You might want to take anything that's yours out of the truck or it will be thrown away.

You were a great help while you were with us but hopefully you can find a job better than this.

PS,

Sorry about this,

Your Boss.

By now Andy had tears already dripping from his eyes as he realized he wouldn't have a job after this. It had taken such a long time to get the job and yet so little time for it to vanish. Andy decided that he'd try to finish with dignity so he put the letter back in the envelope, placed it in a compartment under the CB radio, turned the CB to channel 4 which was his company's channel, started the truck, put it in gear, drove out of the truck lot, and began his Journey to Texas.

A couple hours later he found himself crossing the border from Oklahoma to Texas. Thinking about his orders he remembered that he had to go past Spider Web Park. After thinking about the park he realized that it was just a nickname that truckers like himself would give to certain places because of how they look on a map. The park's real name is Joe Skiles Park. An odd name for a park but it's just a name.

After several minutes had past, Andy had finally reached Denton, Texas and went around the park. As he turned left on a highway that went alongside the hospital he thought about where the hospital would keep the trailer. After reaching the hospital he saw 3 trailers in the back parking lot. As he got closer he saw that the trailer that he was ordered to pick up was between 2 unmarked trailers. After turning into the hospital's parking lot he positioned the truck so he could hook up the trailer.

After it was positioned correctly he opened the door to the truck, and climbed down a little before jumping off the side of the truck. He looked at the trailer while walking towards it to make sure it was the right one. He saw the Dingo's Inc. symbol (which is a orange colored outline of a canine with its head turned sideways, its white-tipped tail bowing downward under him, and the words "Dingo's Inc." colored in white on its back) on the side of the trailer.

Just before hooking the trailer to the truck he saw a note clamped to the wires for the electronics of the trailer. He unclamped the note, unfolded it, and noticed that it was from the hospital. It said that the trailer was signed out and just needed picked up. Andy wondered why they would do this when he was supposed to be the one that signed the trailer out. Since he only wanted this day to be over after hearing it was his last load, he decided to ignore this matter and do what the note said.

After hooking up the trailer and climbing back into the truck, he pressed on the gas and headed for the highway. About 3 hours down I35, Andy was nearing his days end. He was getting close to the Autopool when something caught his eyes. He saw 2 people walking away from the Autopool and heading in the same direction he was driving. After a minute or 2 he started wondering if they needed a ride. He figured that since this would be the last time that he'd be driving this truck that he could at least put it to good use. As he got closer to them he noticed they were both canines.

Letting off the gas and slowly pressing on the brakes, the canines realized that they might be getting a ride. They moved further off the road and waited for the semi to stop as it pulled up next to them. "Where ya headed," Andy asked after pulling to a stop next to the canines. "The Flying Jay over by Sonic," they said at the same time as well as them blushing, grinning, and trying not to laugh. "I'm going to the same place, want a lift," Andy said with a smile on his face and giggling under his breath. "Sure," the canines replied yet again at the same time. Andy watched the passenger door open as the 2 hitchhikers entered his truck.

Andy noticed that the first one to get in was a wolf. This wolf is a light black color with blue eyes, tan shorts, a brown belt to hold them up, and he didn't have a shirt on. "I'm Alex," the wolf said shortly after taking his seat slightly to the right of the middle of the truck. Shortly after that the second canine began to climb into the truck. Andy noticed that he was a wolf like Alex but dressed a bit strange. He wore a western over coat with a belt to keep it closed since it obviously couldn't be buttoned, didn't have shoes on, and had shades of purple in his fur. "And I'm Ulric," the wolf said while taking a seat next to Alex and closing the passenger door.

"I hope you don't mind me asking but how can you stand to wear an overcoat in such heat Ulric?" Andy asked while shifting gears and pressing on the gas. "Actually I can't stand to wear this in the heat. Since this is an overcoat and with a light jacket underneath it I get a bit hot out here. Only reason for me to wear it is because I can walk better with it. Since I have wings, and with this wind I can't walk that fast," Ulric replied while undoing the belt, pulling the overcoat over his head, and putting it in his lap. Andy glanced at Ulric and noticed that he had eagle wings. "Instead of walking...why not fly?" Andy asked as they crossed Wilshire Blvd. "Well...I can't carry heavy loads and with Alex with me I figured I'd try and walk...may I ask why your not wearing a shirt? I thought it was illegal for you truckers to not have a shirt on," Ulric asked in confusion.

Andy remembered why he wasn't wearing his shirt. He had black shorts and tennis-shoes on but couldn't remember when he took his white company shirt off. He couldn't even remember where he had put the shirt. Before he could answer Ulric's question, tears had formed in his eyes and began to run down his face. Alex heard the change in Andy's breathing and looked up at him. "What's wrong," Alex asked after a tear or two had fallen off of Andy's muzzle. Andy couldn't get himself to say anything and since he was trying to hold back from actually crying; he figured that showing them the letter would be better. Ulric had a worried look on his face since Andy hadn't answered yet. Andy shifted down a gear and before retuning his hand to the wheel; he grabbed the envelope which contained the letter from where he had put it and handed it to Alex. Alex got a good look at Andy's face as he took the envelope in his left hand. He could tell that Andy was very sad and figured he might be able to cheer him up. Before trying this he looked at what Andy had gave him.

He opened the envelope, pulled out a piece of copy paper, and held it up so both Ulric and him could read it. By the time they had finished reading the letter they both had tears in their eyes. Andy had finally calmed himself down so he could talk normally but wasn't able to stop his tears. Before anything else was said, they had crossed Britton Rd. "At least you got to meet us," Alex said in an effort to stop Andy from crying. Andy's tears finally stopped but his sadness remained. Alex put the letter back in the envelope and back in the compartment that Andy had grabbed it from.

Sitting back in his seat, Alex glanced over at Andy. He could see Andy's muscular body, and his black-spotted fur, but when he saw that Andy's right ear was pink he just stared. He recognized that colored ear but couldn't place a name to it. He looked from Andy's ear to the side of Andy's face and realized that he was still sad. He could see the sadness in Andy's eyes and wanted to get his mind off of it; even if just for awhile. Ulric was watching Alex and wondered what was about to happen.

Alex couldn't think of what might work but realized something. He sunk down in his seat and hopped that both Andy and Ulric wouldn't notice. Andy heard something that sounded like an air leak. He looked over at Ulric and saw that he was staring back at him. They looked down at Alex and saw that he was blushing, looking down, and grinning. His tail hugged his left hip and his ears heated with blush. Andy sniffed the air and realized that Alex had farted and was trying not to laugh. By this time all three of them were smiling. Andy turned the AC from 2 to 4 in an attempt to get rid of the smell but after a few moments he heard a (PFFFfffft) noise and looked at Ulric. The three busted out laughing and couldn't stop. Andy thought of something as they crossed Hefner Rd. "The other two had let it rip and shared a big laugh so why couldn't I do the same," Andy thought to himself. He let one rip and their laughter was even louder then when it began. There was no one that didn't hear what Andy did for how loud it was. Alex's plan started small and was twisted several directions but worked. Andy wasn't feeling sad anymore. Instead he was rolling down his window a little to air out the truck. Andy's laugh died down but Alex and Ulric were still laughing as hard as they were earlier. Andy figured he'd ask before dropping them off but shouldn't ask just yet.

They had passed Gexpro and had just passed an appliance center when Andy saw his exit. He pulled off I35 onto his exit shortly after. He followed the paved road and stopped at a stoplight. When the light turned green he turned left down 122nd St and came to another stoplight. "Looks like we're finally here," Andy said as he turned right towards the plaza. He pulled up next to another truck which was next to a building that had the words "Flying Jay Travel Plaza" on the front of it. Andy put the truck in park and cut the engine. "Ok, before ya leave can I ask y'all something," Andy asked as Alex and Ulric were grabbing their things. "Sure," they replied while still giggling. "What's so funny?" he asked. Alex and Ulric looked at each other with grins on their faces. "You want to tell him?" Ulric asked Alex. "Sure," Alex replied back to him.

Ulric opened the truck's passenger door and jumped out. Alex jumped out shortly after but after closing the door, he climbed back up the truck and put his head up to the window. Andy rolled down the window and stared at Alex, eagerly waiting for an answer to his question. Alex put his face through the open window and said, "use a vargin aren't ya." Andy's eyes got big and his jaw dropped after hearing this. Alex jumped off the truck and jogged over to Ulric to catch up to him. Andy was in shock after hearing Alex's reply. Not to mention it was said in an Irish accent which Alex didn't seem to use until then.

"So how did it go," Ulric asked after Alex had caught up to him." "I've never seen a Dalmatian's jaw drop that far...much less their eyes get that big," Alex said as he and Ulric both were giggling while walking down the sidewalk. Andy snapped out of a state of shock after awhile and thought about himself being a virgin as well as why he was. He opened the glove-box and pulled out a photo album. There was only one picture in the album so he opened it right to that particular picture. Tears formed in his eyes and a smile crept its way across his face as he wondered if he would meet the person in the photo and thought of how much he cared about this person.

I hope you enjoyed the story as much as I did writing it. As you can tell, some of the words used are contractions; I'm an Okie so that tends to happen. There isn't a single yiff scene in this story because it will be either the second or third chapter before that happens. Until the next chapter, catch ya later. <(^_^)>
