Broom shuddered as the walls closed in on him. The tight flesh grinding at his body had finally taken its toll. The squirrel lost consciousness.

In the void between waking and dreaming, Broom saw a beam of moonlight. It formed a bridge beneath his feet. His feet settled upon it and he exhaled slowly. Once supporting himself, he gazed at the infinite starscape all around him. The light had no guard against leaping off either side, but the squirrel knew he could just walk straight ahead and be fine. Towards the distant moon that sent forth the beam.

Despite all that had happened he felt safe, walking towards the source of the silver light. It was only as he neared the moon that he realized it was not that. It was the eye of an enormous dragon. He instinctually knew that she was the one who was keeping him safe...

His world shuddered as a crack rung out in his ears.

Suddenly, he was awake again, in a tight, wet chamber. However, unlike before the squirrel felt hard surfaces when he shifted around. The thing that had roused him happened again. Then light poured in and Broom closed his eyes tightly. The hardness had split and was being pulled away. The rodent slowly opened his eyes, looking around.

First, Broom looked over his body... He was coated in some kind of slime, matting his fur down and clinging to his figure. The rodent was rather portly, having a bit of a pear shape to his body from a life of sitting in chairs while eating like a tree climber. His grand tail that he usually kept so well-groomed was a miserable sight wet, as well. But it wasn't the inside of a stomach, at least.

The squirrel's eyes turned up towards the room he was in. Several anthros in clothes that reminded him both of medical scrubs and ceremonial robes surrounded him. The ceiling looked to be made of stone or polished concrete. Broom couldn't be sure. Those around him gently guided him to sit upright, and then stand up.

"What... what happened?" The squirrel asked, dazed.

One of the attending robed figures smiled. The mouse gestured to a door, "You are safe and back in the material world."

A vole was pressing at the small of his back, guiding him to the indicated door. It was about this point that Broom realized he was naked. Just above the door was a small plaque that read 'baths'.

The squirrel glanced back as others were picking up giant shards of eggshell and setting them into a wheeled bin, while another large egg was carried to where Broom had found himself mere minutes ago. The trail on the floor reminded his hazy mind that the matting down of his fur would indeed need a bath, and he continued along through the door.

A fortnight had passed since Broom had awoken within the temple, naked and confused, and he stood at its gates once more, now wearing a dress shirt and slacks and feeling quite nervous. The squirrel held a printout of a job listing in his deft fingers, staring up at the place.

Last time had taught the rodent quite a few things. One, that getting eaten was a far better fantasy than actually having to experience it. Two, that he hadn't paid much attention to the mystical side of the city at all. Third, and far from last: That he should always make sure he finds out where he's going when a hot guy leads him off to do gods know what to him.

The fallout from his post-consumption trouble getting home based absence had gotten him pushed back onto the job market despite his protests. The city's public dole was enough to make rent and feed himself, but for the new game, upgrades to his computer, commissions? He had to find a new job.

He walked up the steps to the temple's doors, glancing around. The use of dyed cement to create geometric patterns with precision was as striking as the last time he saw it. The multitude of angles came together to form a strangely soft feeling space, with occasional colored skylights. Hallways split off from open doorways on either side of the entry hall, and a broader archway held doors leading deeper into the temple.

A doe with a noticeably pregnant belly walked to the shorter squirrel. "Hello and welcome. The Goddess' blessing be upon you." She wore a loose robe that draped around her taut midsection and an embroidered black vest underneath, open across her flat chest.

Broom perked up, his eyes taking in these details in a few moments, before he held up the print-out. "I heard there were positions?"

The deer smiled and nodded. "We'll talk in my office so that we aren't just standing around the entrance hall..." She turned to start walking, her hooves clacking against the polished cement floor. Despite her gravid midsection she moved gracefully, not seeming to mind the extra weight. She glanced over her shoulder to make sure that the rodent followed.

Said squirrel started walking behind her, following the tall cervine into a side hall and around a few turns. He was wondering just how far her office was when she opened a door and slipped through. Broom paused to read the plaque beside the door. 'B. Mother Fern, Priestess and Head of Regeneration'

She carefully sat onto a cushioned chair that allowed her thighs to spread around her belly behind her desk, before gesturing to a similarly shaped seat across from her. "Now, you saw our call for help. The way things are, we're quite swamped. We could use some RBMs who are ready to serve..." She trailed off and laughed a bit, her stern demeanor shattered with the tinkle of her tittering giggle. "Sorry... I haven't even asked your name and I'm getting to business."

The rodent chuckled awkwardly, rubbing the side of his face nervously. "Oh... I'm Broom. I... well, I 'hatched' here a couple weeks ago. Everyone was so wonderful to me and since I found myself without a job and you put out a call, I thought I might be able to give back... help other people too."

Fern smiled as she listened, nodding until he'd finished. "Most of the people you dealt with weren't our Mothers. You do know that the call was put out for that position, correct?"

Broom fidgeted a little. "I... yes, I know. Those eggs have to come from somewhere, right?"

The priestess nodded, trailing her fingers across her belly. "Yes. Do you think that it's something you could handle? Are you prepared to try?"

A blush rushed across the squirrel's cheeks as his eyes focused on her stomach. It had taken him this long to realize just what the deer must be pregnant with. "W-well... my friends like to joke I have real birthing hips." Broom smiled awkwardly.

The doe raised her brow in surprise, and then smirked a bit. "We'll see about that." She stood from her seat and walked back to the door, looking back at him as she placed her hand on the doorframe. "Rather, She'll see about that."

Broom stood up, rubbing his elbows with his paws. "What do you mean?"

Fern turned to guide the squirrel along once more, down the hall the opposite direction from where the rodent had entered. "One of the reasons we're so short-staffed is that not everyone is able to perform the duties. Many of them become acolytes in order to help in other ways; others simply leave when they fail the test." She pressed open the double doors at the end of the hall into a darkened space.

The squirrel followed her, his eyes slowly adjusting. There were gaps in the ceiling for skylights letting light pour down into the middle of the chamber. At the center of the chamber, directly within the light, was a grand statue of a dragon, muzzle pointed towards a small platform with a kneeling cushion placed upon it.

The priestess approached the statue reverently, turning to face the male as she came to a halt. "This is the temple's innermost sanctum, the most direct connection to Palwasha."

Broom was staring at the statue in awe, not looking at his footing as he came down the last step to the center of the sanctum.

"Now, you-" The doe began to explain, only to be cut off.

"I remember her..." The words were out of the rodent's mouth before he thought of speaking.

Fern canted her head slightly, looking over the squirrel's face curiously. "How do you mean?"

"In the space between passing and reawakening within an egg..." Broom said dreamily. "She was there." He blinked, and blushed deeply. "S-sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt."

The priestess' look was inscrutable as she nodded in acknowledgement. "If She accepts your supplication, it shall be immediately obvious. This is the test."

Fidgeting, the squirrel nodded as well. "What do I do?"

Fern gestured her hoof-capped fingers to the kneeling cushion. "Kneel, and keep your intentions in your mind."

A bit quicker than he expected of himself, Broom came to the spot and dropped to his knees. Once he was sure he was balanced in place, he looked up at the statue.

The Goddess' eyes were set upon him from the way the effigy was designed. The light from above framed Her head and Her crown of horns. Despite it being late morning outside, the light coming through the gaps between Her horns was clearly the silver light of the moon. And as the squirrel stared, the moonlight came from Her eyes as well, beams of cool illumination dancing over his body.

Unable to look away, the squirrel felt any material thoughts of maybe getting a new game system or being able to afford VR goggles fade. All he could think of was Her warmth, the protection he had been granted. He wanted to help extend that protection to others. As he thought that, Broom felt a warmth blossom in his lower abdomen. He gasped softly, feeling over his stomach. Something was different inside him, but he wasn't sure what it was.

The sensation was pleasant, as though he had become somehow more whole. The squirrel gasped, a blush coming across his cheeks as beneath his hand he felt an ovoid shape abruptly appear. And another. And another.

Broom's tail fluffed up as he pulled his shirt up from his midsection thoughtlessly, eyes still focused on those of the great statue above. In the wash of pleasure that each egg's appearance sent tingling through his mind, he wasn't looking at a representation. She was there, and She was smiling.

He lost track of the number of eggs that were now straining his normally modest paunch into a taut dome much like the doe's own, if smaller for the time being. Broom's eyes finally closed on their own as he wrapped his arms around his gravid middle, and he felt himself falling backwards.

The priestess was there, catching him easily. "You have been accepted. The Goddess smiles upon you and you will help us here." She began to lift.

Broom slowly opened his eyes again. The statue was there again, framed in daylight. However his broad belly was an unmistakable change. His cheeks flared up with a blush again as he found himself fully lifted to his feet. "I... I passed?"

Fern chuckled maternally. "Yes. With flying colors. Come, you need to get settled into the laying room." The doe began to guide the squirrel along, up the steps on the other side of the sanctum from where they had entered.

It was a short walk to their destination, but still the squirrel had new reason to marvel at just how graceful Fern was with all this weight. He wondered how long she had been dealing with it.

She entered a square room with four padded square divots in the middle, with a walkway all the way around, as well as crossing the center. Each indentation in the flooring had several gradations of rounded padding leading down to a flat bottom, echoing the pattern in cement on the ceiling. "Now, disrobe, you'll thank me later. There are cubbies here you can stash your clothes in. You can keep your phone on you but I don't know how much you'll be using it."

Three of the four padded pits were occupied with similarly gravid anthros, all of quite large species. Clockwise, a sturdy mare sat cross-legged in the middle of one, her bust rising above the edge of the divot. The next was occupied by a bull elephant, his trunk idly feeling over his taut, egg filled midsection as his arms rested up on the walkways. Last was a fit shark anthro, lean and androgynous, triangular teeth knit together in a broad, predatory grin. They all laughed a bit at the priestess' comment.

Broom blushed deeply, giving an awkward wave to the other three, before carefully undoing his already quite creased button-up shirt, folding it, and setting it in a cubby. He glanced around again, and saw the others were fully naked. This gave him the confidence to disrobe fully, working the slacks off his wide hips. He grunted a bit in the process... they fit on fine this morning and weren't up around his enhanced stomach or anything!

When he'd finally disrobed fully and stowed all his clothes, Fern gently guided him to the unoccupied divot. "Now, slip in here. If I'm right, you'll be laying very soon."

The squirrel looked up at the priestess and then carefully stepped down, taking a seat. From the inside he realized it was sort of a square nest, the padded walls making it quite comfortable to recline. "How... how often will I be making eggs?" He asked bashfully.

Fern doffed her own robe but left the open vest on, carefully kneeling into the nest alongside him and stroking over the curve of his belly gently. "You will only lay when you are here, ready to lay. The eggs inside you will not develop to maturity without a soul to carry, and those come here for their regeneration." The priestess gently traced a pattern through the taut pelt of the squirrel's newly full abdomen. "Just relax."

It was then that Broom noticed that there was a milky white crystal set into the center of the ceiling, in the cross that mirrored the walkways on the floor. Its shape and color reminded the squirrel of Palwasha's eyes. No sooner had he thought that that a beam of moonlight poured forth from the stone, dancing a pattern across his belly.

"There we are." The doe crooned as she watched, before scooting back a little bit to give Broom some room.

The squirrel gasped as the familiar warmth returned to him. His belly began to swell larger and larger once again. Despite what his rational mind told him about stretch marks or pain, all he felt was an intense pleasure rocking through his loins and up his spine. He blushed deeply. Of course laying eggs would be sexual. He hadn't thought of that.

The priestess leaned back forward to stroke the even larger belly, caressing along it and lightly tapping it on occasion. "Now, breathe deeply, and pace yourself. Your body will soon start to contract on its own..."

Broom gasped, eyes going wide as his abdomen squeezed powerfully across the immense intrusion deep inside his belly. He couldn't be sure how big it was, but based on how large his belly had swelled, it might be as big as he had been when he entered the room...

Fern reached under the great belly. "Allow me to help arrange your loins a bit better." After Broom's deeply blushing nod of affirmation, she pressed something to the tip of the squirrel's quite rigid erection. From the rolling sensation downward, the rodent realized it was a condom. Before he could ask why, she explained: "You'll thank me for avoiding the mess later." She smiled and made sure it was securely in place, before returning both hooves to pressing and rubbing over the broad stomach.

The squirrel shuddered, feeling the hard object press down more and more. A surge of elation flooded his mind as there was an audible creak of his hips dislocating to make way for the ovoid. Just as Fern had predicted, he felt his shaft quiver and twitch, filling the reservoir at the end of the condom in a few moments.

The priestess didn't move to remove it, leaving it in place as she gently pressed Broom to lay back a bit further. She scooted back and looked between his legs.

Broom's mind was having a hard time putting together where exactly he was feeling the stretch travel. He knew it was between his legs but it wasn't the familiar feeling of waste exiting the body either. Something his mind had no map to was straining open, and trembled with every contraction his body made.

Fern smiled as she returned to rubbing. "You're dilating just fine, just keep going. You're almost done."

While this was happening, the bull shark in the nest to their left casually made their way to the center and pressed a button.

"Thank you, Emery." The priestess said without looking away, keeping her focus on the new employee.

Broom gasped and cried out as he contracted one more time. He crossed the widest point of the egg, and he felt it surge out as the smoothly tapered other side was pressed down on by his body. At the same time he felt his shaft quiver and twitch in a second orgasm, filling the reservoir fuller. The squirrel slumped and blushed a bit as he realized that he'd just climaxed twice in front of his new boss...

Fern didn't seem to mind that a bit, gently rubbing the once again merely gravid stomach of the squirrel, and down to the stretched hips, which most definitely had stayed wider than before the egg passed through. "You did very well for your first time. It will become easier as your body grows used to Her gift."

The door opposite from the door that the priestess and new supplicant had entered opened. Four acolytes entered, dressed much the way Broom remembered. They were each of smaller species, themselves. Two hopped down into the nest with Fern and Broom, each carefully grasping one end of the egg.

Sitting up to watch, the squirrel marveled at their efficiency, raising the egg that could have held any one of them inside easily up to their colleagues standing on the walkway.

Once the large egg was secured, the two climbed back out of the nest, and all four carried the egg back through the door.

Fern stepped up out of the nest herself. "I'll be back shortly with some paperwork for you to fill out and sign. Just to make sure you're properly reimbursed for your service." The priestess walked back out the way that they had come in, leaving Broom alone with the three other gravid anthros.

A beam of moonlight poured down and graced the belly of the mare sitting upright in the nest to the left of the squirrel's own. She exhaled, as though the growth of an egg inside her was a relief. From the rodent's position he couldn't quite tell how big she was growing, the walls of the nest and the walkways between getting in the way.

The androgynous shark chuckled, still leaning against the center corner on their elbows. Emery, Broom remembered Fern called them. Emery held a finger above another button. "Want me to call them now, Pepper, or do you think that boulder will take a while?"

Pepper rolled her eyes and gestured away at the shark. "I'm fine. You don't need to do everything for us."

While the attention was off himself, Broom curiously reached his fingers down to feel between his legs. There was only tingling warmth after how far he'd stretched, but he still didn't know what part of him had released that egg! He dug his fingers back to his tail hole, feeling it tight as ever, but something he wasn't expecting pressed to his palm. The squirrel blushed deeply as he put two and two together. "Gods, I have a vagina." He muttered to himself.

Emery cackled aloud, turning to look at the squirrel. "By the Goddess' grace you do! What, did you think you'd poop them out?"

"Crude and juvenile at the same time." Pepper commented, eyes closed. "You should probably choose one and stick with it, Emery."

"Not everyone can have a cloaca." A rumbling baritone added, ignoring the horse's comments. Broom had forgotten the fourth, as he was hardest to see from his position. The elephant sat up so he could see the squirrel over the center of the cross array. "I'm Jasper, by the way. Welcome to the fold."

"I'm Broom." The rodent carefully sat up, curling his bushy tail around to cradle his gravid middle. It seemed the same size, but he could tell there was an egg missing. Or rather, one less than before.

Before he could speak further, Pepper's deep breathing had turned to pleasured whinnying, loud enough to make the squirrel consider earplugs, or at the very least wrapping his fluffy tail around his tufted ears.

The door opened again, and Fern re-entered, holding a manila folder and a clipboard. She sighed and gestured with her hands. A silvery dome covered the horse's nest, and her cries were silenced to the rest of the room. "There, much better. I'm sure you've had time for your brain to put itself back together, Broom."

The squirrel blushed up at the priestess. "Mostly, yeah."

She carefully eased into the nest, and with a gesture the noise-blocking spell had shifted to cover their own alcove. Broom noticed that Jasper immediately planted his thick palms against his great fan-like ears. "Now, let's get to work on this paperwork..."

In between filling in forms with his personal information, including bank information for direct deposit of salary and, oddly enough, favorite color (orange), Broom occasionally would peek over at one of the other three laying. They each had laid at least once before he and Fern were done, and each egg had been taken away by the acolytes.

The priestess left him with the papers and dropped the privacy spell, just in time for moonlight to pour from the crystal directly onto the squirrel's abdomen again. He groaned and settled in for another intense experience.

By the end of his scheduled time, he had laid thirteen eggs and had thirty-two orgasms into that hard-working rubber his boss had provided him with. As such, he needed help clambering out of his nest.

Jasper easily lifted the smaller male up onto the polished walkway and held onto his hand until he'd gotten to the cubby.

"I think I can stand again." Broom murmured bashfully, letting go of the support. His legs felt shaky, but otherwise alright. Despite all his body had been through, he had no aches or pain.

"Be sure to toss that condom before you put your pants on." Jasper said, in the middle of tying off an extremely full rubber of his own with practiced ease. He set it into a bin simply marked with a vaguely phallic symbol to one side of the row of cubbies, before he set to getting dressed.

Following the elephant's lead, the squirrel removed his condom and tied it like a balloon, before lifting it up. He blushed deeply at the overfull water balloon full of his semen he'd produced over the afternoon, before dropping it into the bin as well. Broom pulled his shirt from his cubby and pulled it on. He went to button the bottom button, but his broad belly blocked such an act.

He blushed, and decided to button down from the top instead, only getting four buttons down before the curve of his pregnant belly prevented any further. This was with a baker's dozen worth of eggs removed from his womb, as well. He wasn't sure if his tummy had gone down any over the day between the stretching and contracting...

His pants were no better, the slacks hardly making it above the knees before he started to strain.

"There's those egg laying hips." A familiar voice said from behind him. When he turned, Mother Fern was standing there, holding a vest much like her own, but in orange. The embroidery shimmered, freshly stitched into place. "Here, wear this under your shirt."

Broom easily removed his shirt again, just letting the slacks pool around his ankles. Once he was bare again, he held his arms out from his sides, bashfully realizing that he'd formerly done that by putting his hands to where his hips were currently.

The priestess gently worked the vest onto his back and brought it across his chest. She brought her hands away and walked around to in front of him. "Fits just right."

Unsure what this was meant to achieve and convinced that the fit wasn't anything like he'd expected, the squirrel looked down. It looked as though it would barely close across his chest, and it was made long enough that he felt it drape down past the curve of his newly enhanced hips. "Uh... it does?"

Fern chuckled, and brought her own vest closed in a smooth motion. Impossibly, it closed up perfectly, her gravid belly smoothing down beneath it, fully hidden. "For those supplicants of Palwasha who have not the will or wherewithal to be a representative of the temple and Her faith out in the world, we have a means to hide Her gifts temporarily while out in public."

Broom stared a bit longer, before he began pressing his own closed. Just as hers had, it came together.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

The squirrel was tired when he finally got back to his apartment. It was mostly a warm tired, like back when he'd used to take yoga. He wondered if it was a good idea to try that again as he removed his phone, keys and wallet from his pants pockets. He fidgeted a bit in his normal clothes, starting to undo his shirt. The button down shirt parted to reveal the orange material embroidered with intricate patterns of metallic thread. He hadn't asked but he was sure the pattern was holding whatever spell kept the effect in check.

Broom tossed his shirt aside and loosened his top button, feeling the slacks slip off his slender hips easily. A normal person wouldn't say slender, but compared to what they were without the vest they were downright skinny.

Stepping out of the dark trousers, the rodent felt down the long vest to where its bottom hem hugged his thighs like it was a cocktail dress. He trailed his fingers to the front and peeled apart the joint. It immediately parted in a wave up the enchanted garment, his body blossoming out to it's true size, hips broadening enough that he had to take a step to maintain his balance and an egg-laden belly pressing out over his waistline shortly after. He eased the vest fully off and gently hung it up by the door.

Phone in hand, Broom made his way into his small kitchenette. His thumb was navigating in the phone to his bank's app. The Brood Mother, Fern, had told him that he should have received his first salary deposit in his account by the time he got home and wanted to check if it had. While his phone loaded up his accounts, he filled a glass of water and started to take a sip. His checking account had two more digits in it than when he'd last checked.

The squirrel spit-taked in surprise, just barely managing to keep a hold on the glass and his phone. "T-that can't be right." Broom opened the account activity and stared. The most recent transaction was a direct deposit of what he was fairly sure would be his yearly take from the municipal public dole. He shook a bit as he walked into his living room, his thumb dancing across the screen to screenshot and crop the offending transaction.

Broom set his glass down on the side table by the couch and texted Mother Fern the image with the attached message 'Is this my salary for the whole year?'

He set his phone down, stroking his hands across his taut belly again, slowly calming down. Out of the corner of his eye he saw that the clouds were parting. In the city it was hard to see the stars, but the moon...

Torn from his moon-gazing amidst his hands caressing along his own frame by his phone buzzing, Broom tapped the button and saw the return text notification.

'That is your salary for the week. We take care of our Regenerative Brood Mothers. See you tomorrow.'

Before that could sink in, the moonlight dancing through the window crossed over the squirrel's belly and he felt a familiar warmth... and an egg appeared. "G-goddess..." Broom moaned weakly, slumping down on the couch as he began to swell with egg after egg to replace those he'd used during the day.
