PART EIGHTY FOUR

B unny barely had time to react when she heard the gym leaders' words bellowed from across the arena, the next thing she knew there was the hard impact of wooden knuckles against the side of her face, followed by the blurry sensation of light headedness as she was flung several meters through the air before the sudden bone jarring impact of her body against the dirt floor robbing her of what little consciousness she had remaining as she bounced a few times until rolling to a halt.

"LOPUNNY IS UNABLE TO BATTLE, THIS ROUND GOES TO THE GYM LEADER!"

The assistant announced to which the gym leader grinned a smug crap eating grin, puffing out his chest the man began to wave to the spectator stands while his shiftry walked swaggered back to its own end of the arena as it waited patiently for its next opponent.

"GIVE IT UP YOU ALL READY LOST, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO TO ME WITH ONE POKEMON!"

The man jeered pompously with an air of utter arrogance about the gym leader that filled Jack with a need to wipe that smugness clear of his face, but he was right he could only call out Blaze, Bunny was officially out of the running for the battle, while Oni was in no condition right now to do any thing not that he would even consider putting the weavile into such a position.

"Okay Blaze it's up to you, please watch yourself this guy's playing dirty"

He whispers to the blazikens pokéball, tossing the ball to the ground in front him. A flash of red light erupted to take the form of his dear friend and partner. Blaze slowly keeping an eye on her opponent reached down as she tossed the ball back to her trainer before cracking her knuckles.

"Blaziken...Blazi?" [So, what happened?]

The fire/fighting type asked circling her shoulders as she eyed up the shiftry, a smile forming in a way that should not normally be possible with a beak.

"That guy over there played dirty, snuck in a cheap shot taking down Bunny"

Jack replied, Blaze's eyes narrowed for a moment before giving a short nod of understanding, a flare of flame escaped the sides of her beak as she stares down her opponent. Speaking in an eerily clam tone of voice she gave a dark menacing chuckle as she mused more to herself than to her trainer.

"Blazi...ken!" [Is That So!]

He went to speak but closed his mouth as she raised a talon tipped finger and continued to speak.

"Blazi...Ken...Ken...Blaziken...Blazi...Blaziken...Blazi." [Afraid I'm going to have to be selfish and do this my way.]

Jack kept quiet hearing the rumbling undertones of her voice; he kept quiet, simply nodding his agreement with a deep audible gulp which she turned her head giving him a slow reassuring wink. With a deliberately slow walked towards the shiftry, there was a violent intent could be seen in the way she moved closer and closer towards her opponent before becoming a shimmering blur. The grass/fighting type pivoted in response as he deepened his stance to crossing both arms as they raise up in defence, blocking as the Blazikens attacked seemingly from out of nowhere with a spinning high kick wiping The gym leaders look of smugness from his face as he realised the next round had all ready begun, he was still blustering as Blaze let off a flurry of blows at her foe. Punching; kicking and several close in knee strikes all of which the shiftry either blocked or parried as it was driven back towards its human who was trying to blurt out a series of commands to his pokémon.

"GET SOME DISTANCE; USE HARDEN; USE THROAT CHOP; USE BULLET SEED; COME ON ARCEUS DAMN IT DO SOMETHING!"

The man screamed; flinging his arms about as if that would do something to help beat the fiery avian, the shiftry gave a resentful grunt be as he let loose with a flurry of its own blows. The leaf like fans that made up its hands slashed like blades causing the Blaziken to take the back foot now, numerous kicks bolstered the wooden warriors' assault all most taking her off balance. Jack could see the sense of excitement in Blaze's movements as she began push her opponent back, jack remained silent honouring his friends wish while the shiftry just carried out its humans' orders, though how IT decided to carry them out. Blaze gave out a shriek of pure delight as she leapt backwards before losing off a blast of flames from her open beak but the plant/fighting type rolled out of the way coming up close to her where it opened up with volley of high-speed seeds from its own maw. She took the blow so she could draw nearer, with a bellowing cry the flaming chicken let loose with a devastating upcut. Her entire body spinning as she soared into the air catching the shiftry under the chin sending him clear out of the arena's boundary lines.

"SHIFTRY IS OUT OF BOUNDS, THIS ROUND GOES TO THE CHALLANGER!"

The woman spoke into her mouthpiece thrusting her arm towards Jacks side of the arena, Blaziken gave a slight swagger as she turned and casually walked back towards her human. The gym leader though was glaring at the blazikens back with murderous intent.

"GET THE BITCH!"

He bellows throwing out his last pokéball, Blaze's form blurred leaving an afterimage as she lands dynamically on one knee back on her side of the arena just feet away from her trainer, looking up she wags a digit slowly from side to side as if silently telling the gym leader off for poor sportsmanship. Her new opponent stood before her, a large tree that looked as if it was from some nightmare, its bark resembled a silver birch while its ruddy orange leaves gave off the impression of autumn fall. The Trevenant even by shiny standards differed from others of its kind in as much as it stood a good three feet taller than normal. Its one red eye glowing malevolently from a gaping hole near the very top of its trunk like bod, its large gnarled branch like arms creaked as they stretched while long thorn like finger tips grasped at the air. Everything about the pokémon filled Jack with a sense of dread, taking a deep gulp of air the trainer squeezed his fists tightly by his sides forcing himself to focus on the battle at hand.

"SCARED? YOU SHOULD! BE I PAID GOOD MONEY TO A TOP BREEDER FOR THIS BEAUTY!"

The gym leader laughed in a mocking tone; turning his attention back to his pokémon he opens his mouth as he begins to give his command.

"GO MY PRIZE POKEMON POKéMON, ATTACK FROM BEHIND WITH PHANTOM FOR...."

The gym leader stops himself as he realises just how far back the Blaziken was, had his trevenant used phantom force it would have gone out of bounds. Grinding his teeth he racks his brain to think while the large ghostly tree looks about wondering what it should do since its instructions had not been full given.

"Blazi...Ken!" [Watch This!]

Blaze mused with a chuckled, lifting her head back slightly she spoke to her human with a playful voice then still chuckling the Blaziken gestured with one of her inhuman hands to towering mass of ghostly wood to come at her, the dark abyss of that was the cyclopean eyehole narrowed as its one glowing sphere for an eye glowed even brighter at this. The gapping maw that would have been home in a horror movie, opened wide as it unleashed a soul crushing sound of a thousand tormented souls screaming in unison. Jack felt his rear cheek clench while his bowels twitch, he could feel a chill rippling through his body as the massive unnatural creature raised itself up by its roots scuttling towards him with an alarming turn of speed. Every fibre of his being screamed at him to turn and run or just drop down into the fetial position while hoping it wouldn't see him, even if he had tried to do one of these things his body was to frozen to move his mind numb with complete terror. All he could do was watch with wide eyes as it came ever closer. Blaze leaned back with her arms thrust forwards while taking in a deep long breath, mere second before the trevenant's thorny claws could grasp a hold of her head, she flung her arms behind her while her body and head thrusting forwards letting out a blazing inferno of momentous size. The flames engulfing the entirety of the massive tree pokémon causing it to shriek in not just pain but utter fear too. This lasted for a good few second until the fire from Blaze's beak died down revealing an immobile opponent, it's silver bark now blackened while its leaves had burned away as had a good deal of the branch like horns upon the top of its head. The red glow that had been its was gone. The gym leader's assistant walked over checking the pokémon for signs of life then announcing.

"TREVENANT IS UNCONCHOUS, THERE FOR IS UNABLE TO BATTLE, AS SUCH I DECLAIRE THIS ROUND AND THE MATCH GOES TO THE CHALLANGER!"

Jack stepped into the arena flinging his arms around Blaze form behind; drawing himself close to her, he was still trembling as he pressed his brow into the back of her neck. Blaze cooed reassuringly, clacked her beak a few times as if he was her chic.

"Blaziken...Blaiken...Ken...Blazi...Ken? Blaziken..Blazi...Blaziken." [That thing scared you that much huh? It's all over now, it's okay.]

Hearing her words, he felt her turning around as she eased her arms around him, holding him close with one of her bird like palms around the back of his head, the top of which was safely tucked under beak. It felt surreal to her since most times he showed weakness she felt the desire to beat him with her fists though not this time, rather she just wanted to comfort him in her arms; to drive away the fear he felt so she could replace it with her love, besides she could all ways punch him later if she felt like it.

"I can't have lost....I don't lose...I'm the Forest City Gym Leader, DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?.......MY BROTEHR IS IN THE ELITE FOUR, I AM JETHRO NEESON!"

The gym leader screamed stomping his foot in outrage that someone had dared defeat him, it was at that point the sound of clapping began to sound out as a figure walked into the arena from the challenger's entrance.

"Well done, that was quite the performance, I could feel the bound you and your team have."

Leeroy Neeson noted his eeveelutions padding along either side of him like some honour guard, the gym leader was quietly fuming like some petulant child caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

"As for you dear brother, you've brought enough shame to forest city and it's gym not to mention our family name, scrape what little dignity you have left and fetch this fine young man the badge he has so rightfully earned."

The reddening man opened his mouth as he started to object.

"BUT I....."

But he was swiftly cut off with withering glare and a sharp hissed command.

"ENOUGH.......YOU DISGUST ME BROTHER, YOU DO NOT DESERVE THE PRIVILEGE OF REPRESENTING FOREST CITY!"

The gym leaders shoulders sagged as what little will remained to resist drained away from him along with all colour from his face, turning around as he recalled his pokémon he moved grudgingly towards the gym leaders entrance.

"From the very bottom of my heart I apologise for what my brother has done!"

Leeroy sighed coming to a stop an arm's reach away, his hand raised to which Jack nervously accepted feeling the firmness of the man's grip this lasted only a brief second until Leeroy turned his attention to the assistant asking with a firm polite voice.

*"Could you please check up on my brother please Carol, to make sure he is retrieving a badge for our young friend here?" *

The woman gave nervous but sharp nod as she took her leave leaving Jack and Blaze alone with him, the man studied Blaze for a moment his expert eyes gauging her possible potential.

"Your friend there is quite impressive as are the rest of your team, it is a shame you never quite made it to face me earlier as I feel it would have been quite a wonderful challenge for me and my own team."

He mused giving Blaze a slight bow of the head, the Blaziken bristled with pride at having her ego stroked, it would be a good ten minutes before the assistant returned though the time was passed by watching the six eeveelutions chasing and pouncing on each other in a relatively adorable fashion.

"For successfully defeating the forest city gym, I would like to award you with the tree badge!"

The woman announced when she returned, holding out the tree shaped metal badge with one hand as she shook Jacks hand with the other, with a smile she spoke to jack with a more softer tone than she had previously.

"Congratulations"

Leeroy frowned as he waited for the presentation to come to an end before interjecting himself into the conversation.

"I take it my brother is sulking and feeling sorry for himself out back?"

She sighed softly giving a firm nod in reply, giving the victorious trainer a smile along with a pat on the shoulder Leeroy headed towards the gym leader entrance with a stern look about his face as his pokémon looked up and scurried to catch up.
