A jackalope seeks the assistance of a fast food manager.

~ The night had been calm, and the weather outside of Budget Friend's All Night Food Shanty had kept up a low drizzle. While the floor between the office and dishwasher was drying, the manager on duty slumped in a stool at the registers. He perked up a bit with the arrival of a jackalope levering himself through the dining floor and to the counter.

~ "How can I make your night a sated evening?", the phoenix inquired by rote.

~ The jackalope squared himself up in front of the register, to pull a small metal lantern from under his coat. He held it out, in silence, towards the phoenix.

~ The manager sighed softly, "Thanks for waiting until the cashier was on break.", before leaning forward to pluck the lantern out from the jackalope's fingers. He turned it over in his hands, to examine the seams and the metalworking, "Silver and sapphire. I'm pretty sure he wants this thing back."

~ The jackalope nodded, and laid a single silver coin on the counter.

~ Apparently convinced, the phoenix tapped the small fixture of stone at the center of the lantern for a moment. The piece of limestone flickered into a soft glow, "That'll keep for a week.", reaching over to hand it back to the jackalope.

~ It was to the jackalope's confusion when the phoenix slid the coin back across the counter, "No payment, just one boon."

~ A nod from the jackalope, his confusion still apparent.

~ Slumping back into the stool and resting an arm on a mop handle, "When that lamp's owner comes for you and kills you to get it, forget you know where I am."
