#234 of Short Stories

A coyote joins a fox in bed.

~ The bedroom was silent, short of the soft crackle of the clock radio on the nightstand that had been tuned to an empty spot of the dial and still held more minutes left to its Sleep mode. The fox, having generated a pile of the house pants and tattered shirt, leaned down into the bed to give the mattress a bit of a shake. The coyote, laying on her side of the bed, let out a soft groggy groan before she shuffle-squirmed her way across the bed from the fox's side over to the far side. On arrival, she flailed somewhat with hands to shift the stack of blankets back towards the fox.

~ The fox wasted no moments in the cold air to slip in between sheets and into the warm spot left by the coyote, giving a soft affectionate cheep as she rolled back towards the vixen to flop an arm across the top of the blankets. Off in the distance beyond hearing, a lightening strike in the night could be discerned from the radio's crackle.
