Don't Stare like that

Story by Scarlet Dragoness on SoFurry

-This is actually an excerpt of my life. As boring as my life is, I would have never expected this to happen. More importantly, I would have never expected to patch up friends after they had been hurt. In any way.-

Nala stared at the computer screen, her hands hovering over the keyboard, ready to type anything that came to mind. Anything... everything... something... a little scrap of SOMETHING would be preferable to nothing...

"Nala?" Taylor whispered in his friends' ear. "Na~la... earth to Nala!" Taylor bit down on his lower lip to think. He reached out and grabbed the little dragoness around the waist and hoisted her out of the chair.

"Hey!" Nala wriggled in his grip. "Lemme go, lemme go! Taylor if you don't let me go, I'm gonna scream!"

"Then scream if you want!" Taylor had to yell over Nalas' hollering. "The neighbors are gone again, they must like traveling. Or something."

So, she did. Good and loud. The mirror on the wall shattered into a million little chunks of glass.

"Feel better?" Taylor put Nala down on the floor.

"Actually... yeah." Nala shrugged. "What time is it?"

"4:35..." Taylor checked his watch. "I think it stopped."

"4:30? You mean to tell me I'd been at that stupid computer for the past four hours!"

Taylor looked over at the computer with the blank document on the screen.

"And, by the looks of it, you didn't write anything."

"Don't remind me!"

Nala dropped onto her overstuffed couch and fumed silently. Taylor made her a cup of tea and sat down in the chair across from her. Nala slowly rubbed her temples. She sighed softly and buried her face in her hands. Nala looked up suddenly at her friend.

"What are you doing here?" She asked. "Don't you have a job to find?"

"Yeah, kinda... sorta...."

"Taylor."

Taylor smiled brightly. "I'm hiding from my landlady!" He put a finger to his lips and said "Shhh, don't tell!"

"Do you have a job yet?" Nala asked again.

"Yep."

"Really?" Nala smiled. "That's great! What do you do?"

"You don't wanna know." Taylor nodded.

"Yes I do!"

"No, you don't." He shook his head.

"Yes. I. Do." Nala said sternly. She slowly got up and sat on the coffee table in front of her friend. "What do you do?"

"You know that store on 51st street; 'Hells Bells' right?"

Nala stared at Taylor, not saying anything for several minutes.

"Well," Taylor began again. "I'm the front desk cashier. 9-to-5, Monday through Thursday, I'm off Friday and the weekend."

Nala jerked slightly, once, twice, three times, then broke out into hysterical laughter. Now it was Taylors' turn to lean back in his chair and fume quietly. The minutes rolled on. Nala finally stopped laughing, she wiped the tears from her eyes and looked up at Taylor.

"You work at an S&M sex shop... this is too rich!"

And thus Nala began her laughing fit all over again. Taylor sighed and wondered off into the kitchen to cook something to eat. Nala stopped laughing after a while and helped Taylor find the tomato paste, they talked about work for a while and Nala offered Taylor a stay in her guest room. Taylor, thankfully, agreed.
